I started singing the "foresty forest" song at work. Everybody screamed and started singing the song with me! We all discovered that we had something in common. We love Forest. I work at a huge hardware store company that you frequently are at. "Foresty Forest, bringing sales associates together since 2020!"
I really enjoyed this one. With a little of your backstory, and a little bit of what's going on now - and that weird historical mystery - that made for a very enjoyable video.
I'm not going to lie, I'd love to see you build a cabin or climb Denali, but it's not what you're doing that keeps me coming back to your channel. It's your authenticity that I love. I just like seeing you be you. :)
Definitely - my seven year old son and I both love watching Forestry Forest. We watch it together and Forestry Forest often comes up in our conversations between videos
For me, Foresty Foresty is far and away the only UA-cam I actually look forward too watching . His videos never get old. Simon seems so kind hearted and authentic. You will never hear him criticize anyone or complain if things are not going well. Keep up great videos , in these trying times you are POSITIVE BEAM OF LIGHT.

Your videos are very different from the other van lifers’ videos. You have a lot to offer with your honest personality, witty and comical remarks; your videos of the hikes are at times educational and always has the most beautiful scenery. Thank you 😊
You might think that we always need something new, and maybe that's the case for new subs I don't know, but actually I reckon most of us just want to see the same thing you did yesterday as it's a bit of an anchor. Just keep living your life and taking us along, that's plenty.
I totally agree...we don't tune in for 'drama' as such ( too many other YT'ers out there doing that)....it's the simplicity and grounded nature of Foresty's life that gives stability in a mad , mad world.
Agreed as well. And for video quality, you are doing an awesome job with the gear you have. It’s all about the person and the story. Keep going FF! One of the best on UA-cam. New creators like me are learning a lot about how to be authentic and doing it right.
Forestry, you're one of my favourites. Never apologize for not being "entertaining" enough. The word is educational for me, as I always learn something from you or just admire your beautiful drone footage. Thank you for being candid about your past. In my humble opinion, the life you have now suits you to a T, and that little scamp Rocko completes you so well!
Thank you for your story. Introverts unite! You were kidnapped by a cartel? WTF, you need to elaborate, or maybe not. What adventures you've had and you're still here, thank goodness. You seem very happy living your life now.
They took him to an ATM, made him withdraw his money, then thankfully, let him go, iirc. Go watch all his older content, every video is interesting in its own light.
I'll never forget that van life in freezing temperatures video. It was amazing. First van video I ever saw and I was hooked. Of course I got inundated with van video recommendations from other youtubers, but none compare to the authenticity of yours. You're the only one I follow. And yes, it's still van life if you get paid. Anyone that says otherwise is an idiot. In the wise words of the Joker, "If you're good at something, never do it for free!"
You forgot to mention all your cooking episodes, your slow cooking series. I took a few weeks to watch every single video you have made, I enjoy your content.
Brilliant authentic channel: options for housing crisis, van life, one pot tasty cooking, mountain climbing, trail clearing, vehicle maintenance, living wisdom, and the BEST aerial photography of the Canadian Rockies.
I'm going to pretend my comment is what inspired this video. Put a big smile on my face, even if I know I was just one of many who had an interest in this topic!
You have come a long way to be where you are today. I still remember your earlier videos. You weren’t comfortable talking to camera. However once you opened up to your camera, your sense of humor came alive :).
The universe has a way of training you for future events. I wonder how many people have camped, hiked, climbed and adventured after watching your videos. I bet thousands and thousands of folk are out in nature because of you and your uploads. I have limited mobility, so watching your videos takes me to places id never see.
Thanks for sharing Foresty! Please don't feel like you need to dream up ways to entertain the masses. I'm thinking that most of your viewers just love living vicariously through you as you explore and go places 99.9% of us never could! Live your life for yourself! And Rocko!
That viral video was the one that turned me on to this channel. I think you are thinking through this whole video thing too hard Foresty Forest. Now with Rocko all you need to do is film her when she has the zoomies and your UA-cam channel's future is assured.
You started your channel just being you.. Why is it so hard to just still .. BE YOU? Stop making you so hard.. We watch you for your easy on the heart and eyes channel. Hard is not why we watch you Foresty. LOve you! Please stay calm and just be you.. what ever your day brings we want to follow :)

Personally foresty I'd carry on as you are ,a bit of everything from the long hikes and climbing ,to the sit and chats ,also doing bits to your van (including rust prevention and paint ) For me I enjoy the every day life things too like just popping into town and getting supplies ,none of it is boring because we have gotten to know you over time ..keep going bud ,enjoy your life doing what you want ,when you want whilst sharing it with us 👍
I wonder if it was some mining thing, perhaps not water, but some chemical process for the extraction of say Gold? I’m not after “entertainment”, just to learn how one person can make the physical side of living in a car or van work. AirBnB has destroyed rental availability and affordability in my country, and living in cars and vans is less of a “choice”, but more of a way to have some sort of safe shelter. You have lots of fabrication and mechanical skills, and my favourite videos were you building or fixing things while in a car park. I still can’t get over how you have a roaring fire inside your van, it is so beautiful. Go well young Foresty, be happy and safe, and well done persisting with protecting puppy’s eyes. She looks like Miss Phryne Fisher.
What I love about forest he’s not chatty or making content for the sake of content way more to the point than other van lifers You know like buying ambulance then getting a shop then pushing new merchandise then abandoning both oh ok chrome guess this was just for the sake of content Forest and one other van lifer are the only two I still watch on the regular
I liked your description of life in standard jobs, seeing how long you can hold your breath. Me, I’m about to drown….wish I had the courage to break away.
I love that you maintain your privacy, while sharing your adventures. I think you're brave and demonstrate any problem can be solved and living simply can be comfortable. You're incredibly smart. Rocko is stealing everyone's hearts now. I found you when my favorite you tuber joined you for a hike. Keep living your beautiful life. Anyone new, it's worth going back and doing a video watch marathon.
I have mentioned in your actual fat bike episodes.....That the fat bike episodes are how I found your channel AND they are your BEST work. I don't remember the titles, but I have watched and rewatched them many times. Your van life episodes...not so much. You have always created interesting content and I still find good entertainment watching your channel. Nothing yet matches the thrill of the solo adventures on your fatbike in the desert southwest of the U.S. A close second is your latest stay in that area (Utah, Arizona, Nevada) in your current van. Thanks for all you do. Your solo video work is top notch! On your way to 1M subs.
It’s mining, not livestock. Cranbrook History Centre has loads of info. Can probably tell you exactly what they were mining at that particular location. Remember that folks (non-indigenous folks that is) have been there for a long long time, like over 150 years. They used to travel up and down the Columbia Valley on paddle wheelers! Take a day trip to Fort Steele if you’re interested.
Yes, placer miners probably built those trenches and flumes. Some placer mines operated by damming up a lot of water, then loading placer material (old river deposits of sand and gravels) containing gold into the system above a series of sluices. When they got the right amount of material loaded in above the sluices, they’d release the damned up water and have it rush across the material and sluices to sort the placer material. The heavy gold nuggets would get caught in the sluices.--This is an old-time placer processing method. I’m guessing it was done in North America mid-1800’s through the early 1900’s for placers deposits where water was scarce and labor for digging, logging and building was adequate.
@@victoriaburkhardt9974- In California, from 1853 to 1884, placer miners using water cannons sent enormous amounts of material from the gold fields of the Sierra Nevada Mountains downstream, raising the level of the Central Valley by seven feet in some areas and forming long bars up to 20 feet thick in parts of the San Francisco Bay, 150 miles away.
Don’t let the pressure of feeling as if you need to constantly be creating “new” content at all times get to you. You’re doing a helluva job man. Thanks for the back story . Keep doing what your doing , your one of my favorite van channels . Your new pup is awesome . I'm a huge dog lover , she is beautiful.
Hey Foresty! You are above Wilmer, there is a massive water system up there from the early 1900's. I'm not 100% sure but I think it started on Toby creek somewhere. If you know where to look you'll find a huge flume bridge spanning a pretty big valley, and a hole that has to be 150 feet deep. all part of the water system. It's pretty cool! Also there is an operational one feeding the town of Edgewater that is one of the oldest operating flumes in Canada. Anyway, love the videos!
Thank you so much for the info, I was reading through the comments to find an answer about it. I was wondering if they could have been used for logging but the ninety degree angle would have jammed with logs! I guess it would have to be larger than that and straight to accommodate logs.
At the beginning of the video, was like _Uh-oh! There’s a wild beast behind you!!_ 😆 🤟 Love Bob Ross & the reference!🌲 The world is a better place with you & Rocko in it!! Sending Aloha 🌴😎🤙
i agree with the comments here when they say "don't change" don't feel like you have to change because you think we're bored or something like the comments say "it's your authenticity" that we love as well as the cooking and hiking up mountains only change if you want to change so don't worry about us we're just along for the ride 😊🙂
Congratulations Forest on all your success. It is interesting to know a little bit more about you and with no surprise your intelligence shines through with all you do. 👍
Been watching your videos since you went up to the Yukon. Best Van Life Channel on UA-cam by far. Bout to re-enter the life myself at the end of the month and can't wait. Keep em coming Foresty.
I have to admit , the video about van living caught my eye, and I was hooked! I graduated in 78 and found myself working a union job in N. Dakota in the middle of no where so living out of my car was a necessity! Then came an construction job and I turned my Volkswagen microbus into a house, cooked over a small grill and a battery oped alarm clock with lakes or truck stops as my shower spot! I loved it, never thought of staying in town just traded work for a spot to camp! I was a step up from a hobo my boss said by hey I could live so cheap, paid to sleep indoors in the winter so I really liked the video! Never missed one since!
I've learned to never ask anyone any version of "what's next?" It's such an anxiety inducing question for a lot of people just trying to keep it together.
Love from South Africa. We love you Foresty forest and Rocko. This is our future dream to live in a van. We have a Nissan Patrol with a rooftop tent. Luna our little doggie goes camping with us. Love stealth camping. Lesotho is our favourite country to wild camp. Love from Peter, Trudie, Benji and Luna(tic)
You’ve done quite well Foresty! Someday, your life’s journey could become a book. I totally understand about the rent issue. I moved out of my apartment 4/7/2022. Monthly rent was $1420(NJ). Currently an urban nomad. My anxiety moments are less. Sending you & Rocko lots of hugs and love ❤️❤️
Criminal that people are being driven from their homes for something there's no shortage of,just greed and mass hoarding of money. There's no shortage of need for the price hikes.
I agree rent sucks. I don't mind paying rent but landlords/apt complexes know they have you by the balls and overprice majorly. Then add internet (I cut the cord/cable), electric, car ins, health ins, food, gas, clothes and incidentals....it's almost impossible for a single guy to live.
At 5:44 , I disagree with you. That video wasn't boring at all. In fact, I have watched it several times. Between the footage and your choice of intro music, that video encapsulated the spirit of winter. Winter is solitude and stillness. That's what I get when I watch it. It's mysterious and magical. One of a kind. We didn't get to hear about how you developed your love for the outdoors and mountaineering expertise. That could be a good follow up on your story. Thanks.
Yeah I can't remember when he talked about it, but basically he heard the trucks approach, ran out to try and hide and they shot in the air to make him stop. Took him to nearest town with ATM and had him withdraw what he could then let him go. Scary shit. This was during one of his month plus long bike tours. Stopped venturing into or near Mexico after that. I like the happier story he had where some Mexicans taught him his Carne Asada recipe he uses quite often.
Many years ago they built log flues to transport logs downhill if there was a water source available. There was one near my home in Northern Ontario. This is century old technology.
Try some U-Pol Raptor liner paint, you may need a compressor to apply it but its super durable and will outlast any regular undercoating. Works amazing.
Thanks for sharing. I'm a bit bi-polar so if I'm in a down period watching you and Rocko usually pulls me out of it and motivates me to keep plugging away on my own 7x14 trailer build. I actually "laughed out loud" seeing Rocko in goggles. Adorable! Thanks again FF.
Just keep doing what makes you happy and don’t worry too much about changing the formula for what you put on UA-cam. What you’ve been doing for the last few years is clearly very popular.
I TOO AM A VAN DWELLER FORESTY. YOU HAVE BEEN AN INSPIRATION TO ME IN THIS REGARD. AND I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND ABOUT BEING UNCOMFORTABLE AROUND PEOPLE. IT'S JUST ME AND MY DOG, ABBY, IN MY VAN NOW AND SINCE YOU NOW HAVE ROCKO YOU WILL APPRECIATE A BUTTON THAT I HAVE THAT SAYS " THE MORE PEOPLE I MEET, THE MORE I LOVE MY DOG ".
Nice video. You left the everyday hassles of life to live it your way. I'm happy for you and for your videos to unwind from the daily hassles I may have encountered. A couple of beers and I'm in Canada chilling in the woods too. Just a simple little diversion for 20 minutes is nice. It's good to know you through what you share in your content. Rocko reminds me of Snoopy taking on the Red Baron with those googles. All she needs is a way too long white scarf and some Peanuts music.. Thank you for sharing to those who cannot cutaway from the cities...or the too hairy roommates. Stay well.
Interesting to hear some of your history. I don't need your channel to change. I would follow if it did, but I can never climb those mountains or ford those distant rivers myself. I enjoy them vicariously through your amazing documentation. I am still thrilled with every mountain peak. I imagine a day when we'll celebrate milestones like climbing every peak in Alberta or getting to see Denali or maybe hiking to Mt. Sylvester in NFLD with Justin Barbour in a collaboration. Who knows? I'm eager to watch and see. Just stay well, and be yourself, it's working.
Going on my 5th year in a van. You are so authentic and relatable to me. I tell anyone who will listen about your channel. Welcome to Rocco and your "B" roll makes the rest of yt look amature at best. Be well.
I very much enjoyed this video and getting to know you a bit better. Everytime you upload your video, I drop everything else on UA-cam and go straight to your video and without even watching it fully, I click like. I absolutely LOVE your videos and would love to get to know you as a friend. It sucks that you feel social anxiety especially in places like an airplane. Because as an aviation enthusiast who loves flying and traveling I find it to be one of the most amazing things humans have done. That said, I apprecaite your videos so much and wish you nothing but the best.

Thank you so much for the info, I was reading through the comments to find an answer about it. I was wondering if they could have been used for logging but the ninety degree angle would have jammed with logs! I guess it would have to be larger than that and straight to accommodate logs.
You could describe your way out of a paper bag and it would still be interesting! You are my favorite youtuber ♥️
Now that's funny!
Boy you have a pretty interesting history. I love your videos. The scenery is just breathtaking. Add an adorable puppy with goggles
At the beginning of the video, was like _Uh-oh! There’s a wild beast behind you!!_ 😆
🤟 Love Bob Ross & the reference!🌲
The world is a better place with you & Rocko in it!! Sending Aloha 🌴😎🤙
I had to pause playback at 4:17, put my head down and laugh and laugh .. oh owch hahahahaha. I am 77 yo girl :) God Bless you dear Simon!
I think all of us would watch your videos, whatever content you do! You’re so authentic and humble! Do you have any siblings?
i agree with the comments here when they say "don't change"
don't feel like you have to change because you think we're bored or something
like the comments say "it's your authenticity" that we love
as well as the cooking and hiking up mountains
only change if you want to change
so don't worry about us
we're just along for the ride 😊🙂
Congratulations Forest on all your success.
It is interesting to know a little bit more about you and with no surprise your intelligence shines through with all you do. 👍
🤣 too funny. Keep doing what feels right for you - and now you have your Rocco with you! Rock on 😀
Been watching your videos since you went up to the Yukon. Best Van Life Channel on UA-cam by far. Bout to re-enter the life myself at the end of the month and can't wait. Keep em coming Foresty.
Rocko looks so betrayed when you put those goggles on her... LOL. Good on you for taking such good care of her.
been with you since 30k subs, come a long way
I came on 194k. 😁
The thing I really like about your videos is, that they are short, concise, with interesting content. Good work. Thanks. 10-15 minutes is just great
I second that
I've learned to never ask anyone any version of "what's next?" It's such an anxiety inducing question for a lot of people just trying to keep it together.
very true!
What if he's trying to keep his channel together too?
Thanks for sharing. This UA-cam gig is perfect for you. Your content is interesting and informative. Safe travels. 😊
Same with me . I gave up my apartment 3 yrs. Ago
Good luck.
Agree with all these comments but the comment “could become a book”…that would be fantastic!
Love your videos forestry I could watch you just washing the van keep up the good work
When it comes to van lifer’s you are the best
At 5:44 , I disagree with you. That video wasn't boring at all. In fact, I have watched it several times. Between the footage and your choice of intro music, that video encapsulated the spirit of winter.
Winter is solitude and stillness. That's what I get when I watch it. It's mysterious and magical. One of a kind.
We didn't get to hear about how you developed your love for the outdoors and mountaineering expertise. That could be a good follow up on your story. Thanks.
Thanks for the back story. Happy you have a life you enjoy and share with us.
One more thing: I never wonder what is next. I am simply enjoying the journey.
Ok, want to hear more about the drug cartel kidnapping!!!!! 🇺🇲🇨🇦
He told the story on a livestream once.
they basically made him transfer over a bunch of money and then let him go
OMG! 😮
@@zachary8872 Wow!!
Good job living the dream and getting out of the rut that most of us put up with. Great video!
👍👊😎
Thanks for sharing. I live vicariously through you on the mountaintops, a place I will never see in person.
Many years ago they built log flues to transport logs downhill if there was a water source available. There was one near my home in Northern Ontario. This is century old technology.
These look to small to be log flues, and with those 90 degree angles, seems unlikely. Be great to track these uphill to the source, though.
You inspire me everyday man💜
Try some U-Pol Raptor liner paint, you may need a compressor to apply it but its super durable and will outlast any regular undercoating. Works amazing.
it is also available in spray cans. great stuff!
Mr Frost you are so cool its always a pleasure to see what you’re doing
Hello to you and Rocko! It was awesome to hear your story, thank you for sharing with us. 👍
If Foresty Forest sticks to making videos he likes, I believe he will always have a devoutly loyal following.
Always good to hear your story. Something very special about living life the way you want too.
Well done.
Nate
Forest is a beast on those biking tours. He carries his bike through everything. It's a must see. Credit due Forest.
Stay well.
Hahaha Snoopy, that's right 👍
Come to Australia with your van . You would love it. Could do 6 month series on this amazing country.
Love the glasses .
Snoopy = Rocko = Same with the Goggles! She is so dang cute , got to love her... GREAT Video!
@@Capecodham Mind your own business DS. This was my second comment and I will comment about what I want to. So PO and PUAR.
Take the money and run. Thanks for the content. You don't owe shit to anyone. Be free Mr Forest.
Lmao!!!
Ironically, it's kinda sad people waste their lives away on the couch while watching other people live their lives on UA-cam.
Hope that black paint turns out to be durable, it would look cool to go all the way around the van with it!
