- WILDFIRE! - True Story of Firefighters vs. Out of Control Forest Fire
1971 - Depicts a powerful and awesome force of nature: wildfire. Men and equipment fought for 20 days to control forest fires in the Wenatchee National Forest, in Washington State in the summer of 1970.
OMG!!! I am SO EXCITED TO FIND THIS VIDEO!! I have tried to find it for YEARS! I even contacted NBC to see if there was a way to get a copy. My father and several from his Crew from the ALLEGHENY NATIONAL FOREST IN PENNSYLVANIA were here and fighting this fire.. He passed away the following Feb 1971. What a great documentary to show what these men went through.. Thank you for posting! I can't wait to watch to find my father in it again!!
Loren Greene a.k.a. Ben Cartwright doing the voice over,,,, cool. :) Thanks for posting.
HOLY CRAP! I last saw this video (film) back in the beginning of my career! LOL! My sincerset heartfelt tahnks for this trip back in time!
On August 25, 1970, I was doing time in the Washington state reform school for bad boys at Cedar Creek Timberline, a labor camp in the Capitol Forest. At 16, I was the Crew 2 Leader with Foreman Dude Johnson. We worked for the DNR, and you either worked or went to solitary confinement. Forty-five years ago today a fire call came in and we headed east of the mountains to Ellensburg. Ten days of hell and we fought 25 fires that year.
This is a letter to my father from the camp superintendent:
Dear Mr. Kirk, August 27, 1970
I am writing to inform you that due to the fact that the boys from Timberline are fighting a fire in Eastern Washington, they will not be in Camp for visiting Sunday this week. However, unless otherwise notified, there will be visitors next Sunday.
Very truly yours,
Warren Netherland
And I say again......the first film I saw before becoming a Ranger!!! Damn! We are a fearless bunch!! LOL!
GLBONSER1...Thank you for your service to our country as a wild land firefighter. I have been a city firefighter for 27 years, and you forestry firefighters have all my respect.
out of all of the classic wildfire films on here, this one is the tops.
Great documentary. Run free little squirrel.
One of the best wildfire vids I've seen. just the right amount of gravitas and pathos but not over the top. Loren Green's narration hit the high points of that fire complex. By the next year I had a Degree in Forestry and was Helitack Foreman on the Mt. National Forest in Northern Oregon. It would be my last of six years fighting fires for the Forest Service. I would fight fires for other jurisdictions but none was as good as the forest service. I got my degree so I could fight fire for the Forest Service and I lost my dream somewhere along the line.
this is literally the most amazing thing i've seen
Viva la raza 🇲🇽 always helping where we can
This is the era I began my fire service career. I was not in the extreme wildfire service because I had you and your mother to consider. Being with Consolidated was a better choice for the family. No regrets.
Thanks so much for sharing.
I THINK REMEMBER THIS MOVIE WHEN I WAS A KID WHERE THESE BRAVE FIREFIGHTERS FIGHT THIS LARGE FOREST FIRE >>>THIS WAS A VERY GOOD MOVIE
My dad was in that movie john segle he was fire control officer Leavenworth district good memories
looking at what they had for PPE was amazing compared to what we have today!
It was backbone and balls.
Love this video very difficult to find.
I am in this video as a 19 year old working for the orest service. The film featured our fire crew, starts about the 18 minute mark. Cool old trucks. We must have been tougher then, no special safety gear, I remember escaping a crown out in the movie with the fire burning overheard and weare flying down the road in the back of the pick up at 60 mph plus to keep from burning up. This was the worst fire in washingtons modern history and somehow we all surviced.
22:32 Those people in town had guts. With the way wildfires now behave, staying is probably not a good option.
Lorne Greene!
Wildland fire no jack
Definitely vintage but well done movie .
Pilot having way too much fun at 42:22
