Your video has reminded me how many great movies there were in the 80s. Disappointed not to see The Burbs on the list, though. It's probably my favorite (even if it did come out at the end of the decade).

@@cvdinjapan7935 Sure, at the time. As were many of the ones in the video. But these days, there are quite a few on their list that aren't remembered. Though I figure if you have kids that can quote from the movie (Princess Bride) or there are sequels/reboots that were made in the last decade (Ghostbusters, Labyrinth), you can't claim they're neglected.

You should add Body Heat from 1981 with William Hurt and Kathleen Turner (her first movie!). Terrific murder story with lots of unforeseen twists and turns! Also Jagged Edge from 1985 with Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges. It's a murder story that makes you wonder who the killer really is. Truly shocking ending too!
I'm so glad you picked Empire of the Sun! A part of WW2 most Americans no little or nothing of! Oh, and turns out, that Christian Bale kid is pretty good!
If you like Christian Bale and mysterious films, try to get hold of The Pale Blue Eye. It was based on Louis Bayard's novel of the same name, with Bale's retired NYC detective hired to investigate the deaths of cadets at West Point in the early 1800's. The amazing Harry Melling is Cadet Edgar Allen Poe (yes, Poe was a cadet!). The movie had an extremely limited release, and isn't available on DVD in the US yet as far as I know. Copies (probably pirated!) can be found on the internet. Dark, scary, full of twists, wonderful.
You just earned a new subscriber. As a ‘77-born X-er myself, watching VHS movies until the tape wore out was a regular activity. They just don’t make movies the same anymore. You hit so many “classics” from my childhood. Thank you very much; I needed this pick me up today and glad I came across your channel.
One eighties horror that I have yet to see reacted to is the 1988 movie Waxwork starring Zach Galligan (Gremlins/ Gremlins2). I remember when I watched it as a kid, it freaked me out.
My sister and I used to try and sneak up to each other and scare the other with our best imitation of that guy who said, "welcome to zee waxworks." Imagine thinking you were alone to suddenly hear that very distinct phrase. She sounded just like him too so I eventually acted like I outgrew the game. I didn't. She scared the Hell out of me.
One movie I want to see people react to is 48 Hrs/Another 48 Hrs. Eddie Murphy starred in 48 Hrs as his first movie (1982) during his SNL gig, and it was one of the earliest buddy-cop action movies out there, but it was cop x criminal. The original movie also had shown a solid dynamic between Jack Cates and Reggie Hammond, who had every reason to hate each other. Now, the movie is a bit sensitive by today's standards because of some elements of racism, but the journey manages to get to where these two achieve a sound enough friendship with one another that carries on into the sequel years later. And the movie is just so well edited and tells a solid enough story for what it's going for. This was before we had movies like Lethal Weapon, Red Heat, Turner & Hooch, and other types of buddy action flicks that began to pop out in the later 80s. And as for the sequel? Sabotaged by the studio. The final product is a good movie, but the reason it feels so off is because the original movie was meant to be longer - Started out at 145 mins, then got trimmed to 120 mins by studio request and with the director's involvement, and then got cut further to 90+ minutes just days before it went out to theaters. And you can see the elements that could have made the movie a lot better if it got the material restored that supported it.
Wow nobody mentioned Fright Night! One of my all time favorite horror movies. Chris Sarandon is the vampire next door. ❤ also an Xer. Great blast from the past. I also think Empire of the Sun is completely u derrated. I always cry at the end when he reunites with his parents. If you know, you know.
As a hardcore Gen-Xer (born in 1970), I couldn’t agree more with your list. In fact I would also include 30 additional titles. The late 70’s to entire 80’s were truly a phenomenal era in film. Btw “French Fries, French Dressing, French Bread and to drink, Peru.” (Also loosely based on a true story).
I will have to make a sequel to this list because you are right…it was a phenomenal era and there are so many movies to mention. And fantastic Better Off Dead quote, btw. That made me chuckle.
@@mysocalledgenxlife I figured you’d instantly get it. My life is an endless stream of Gen-X pop cultural references. Btw, I absolutely love your channel. Keep up the amazing work.
Excellent list.. I’d add, Real Genius, My Science Project, The Last Starfighter, Ice Pirates, and Space Hunter (young Molly Ringwald).. and I know there are a few others that might be a lil risqué but non the less poignant and relevant for the time… Grease2, Porky’s trilogy, Hardbodies, to name just a few 😊 Thank you so much for highlighting sum of my best cinematic memories from that era; was best time of my Life ever!!! 🤗
I concur, Buckaroo Bonsai!!!!!, Time After Time, Time Bandits, Dragonslayer, Nighthawks, Gorky Park, Firefox, 2010, Blue Thunder, Outland…oh hell everything Peter Hymes and John Badham made.
@@SSGTStryker Yes!!! Ooo ooo I almost forgot .. Hollywood Knights, young Danza, Pfeiffer, & Dresher.. and Bachelor Party, Real Men also The Man with One Red Shoe… sorry, there are sooo many to list, I’m so amped from this chronicle list .. maybe should be more like 100 movies!!!
@MargaretLaFleaur-j5j The Last American is actually a remake of a film from Israel called Lemon Popcicle released in 1978. The film was set in the 50's. 🤔🍋🍭🎥
Great list! I haven't thought about some of those films in years! You hit right at the heart of my college movie watching years. I had forgotten how many actors got their start back then. I think a lot of folks have forgotten what an excellent comedic talent Tom Hanks is, since we mainly see him in dramatic performances these days. I would add two films to your list: Name of the Rose, to round out the young Christian Bale trilogy, and Ladyhawke, which is one of my all time favorite movies and also very underappreciated.
Oh Batteries Not Included and Short Circuit were out around same time as Flight of Navigator Radio Flyer The Boy Who Could Fly and Dennis Quaid in Frequency but I can’t remember what year it came out
The Burbs would make for a good Tom Hanks double feature as a dark comedy counterpoint to The Money Pit. And yes, we did have an appreciation for Joyce Hyser. Didn’t dethrone Soace Camp Lea Thompson for me, though.
I have seen a few reaction channels tackle Mr Mom and Adventures in Babysitting.. and overwhelming thumbs up from those reaction channels so the channels are slowly exploring these movies. Return to Oz and Dolls are creepy and unique movies that I think deserve more attention.
You could probably do a top 50! I haven't watched many reactions so excuse me if some of these have already been done to death: Private Benjamin, 9-5, Overboard, Troop Beverly Hills, Point Break, Newsies, The Cutting Edge, Labyrinth, Turner and Hooch. I'm sure I can come up with more but these were the ones that came to mind after watching
You should check out my 90s list. I’ve only done 10 titles so far, but one of those you mentioned are on there. There are so many good movies from the 80s and 90s to choose from! Ps. Love Troop Beverly Hills and Cutting Edge!
Excellent list! I have added 9 new films to my watchlist! While I'm not Gen X, I do remember seeing most of these randomly on TV as a kid. Adventures in Babysitting was one me and my mom would watch every time it came on and I still love it so much.
It’s so great isn’t it? That opening scene with Chris in her room just made me so happy as a kid. And you don’t have to be Gen X to watch my channel 😊. I’m glad you’re here!
@mysocalledgenxlife my favorite line from any movie is from Adventures... Who's that? Stray dog. What do we do about him? Get in the car and run him over!
Better Off Dead is one of the most hilarious flicks nobody's seen ever, I still watch that one every now and then, and it _still_ cracks me up, it's almost like a Cohen brothers movie in that it gets funnier every time you watch it, there's a bunch of stuff you inevitably miss the first time.
Great list! Here are some of my favs that I also don't think enough people remember as often or as fondly as I do: 1. The Boy Who Could Fly...omg, what a tearjerker! Watched it recently, still held up. 2. Summer School...so hard to find, but so worth the search 3. Lucas...one of both Corey Haim and Winona Ryder's first major films---they were both so young and tiny but so talented already! 4. The Incredible Shrinking Woman...possible the weirdest movie I ever loved 5. Troop Beverly Hills...so....freaking....good!!! And one honorable mention that some might consider a cult classic so I didn't include it: Teen Witch...pure 80's camp at it's finest so "top that!" 😂
Less Than Zero, One Crazy Summer, Cloak and Dagger, The Manhattan Project, Dune, The Last Starfighter, Three Amigos, CLUE, Overboard, Dragonslayer, KRULL, They Live... I could go on for a while.
Two 80s movies that come to mind are two William Peterson (CSI) vehicles are excellent suspense crime dramas, To Live and Die in LA, which features maybe the greatest car chase scenes, and Manhunter, the screen introduction of Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs). Both have a true 80s crime drama feel (Miami Vice) but are fantastic on their subjects. Manhunter was the first screen presentation of Red Dragon, later remade under that title, directed by Michael Mann (Heat). Both excellent and very underrated.
Manhunter is a GREAT choice! And one I had honestly forgotten about. I am not familiar with To Live and Die in LA, but I have heard of it. I will definitely check that out. Thanks!
To Live and Die in LA actually dared to.. well, do YOU KNOW WHAT to the main character halfway through the movie. It became an instant classic for me at that point.
@@commandercaptain4664 there’s actually a filmed version of a different ending where that event ended different. William Friedkin (director) and Peterson both allegedly preferred the version that was released.
Here’s a few more that came to mind: The Toy (Richard Pryor, Jackie Gleason) They Call Me Bruce Firefox (Clint Eastwood) Uncle Buck (John Candy) Saw all of them in the theater. And on RCA’s Select-a-Vision CED player we had 1980’s The Private Eyes starring Tim Conway and Don Knotts.
Girrrl Peggy Sue's one of my all time favorite movies!! It's sooo freaking good! I love how in the end, she essentially realizes she'd make the same choices with Charlie. Kathleen was great and Nick Cage was phenomenal
My absolute favourite 80s miniseries was Deceptions (1985) starring Stephanie Powers playing identical twin sisters. One is a tired and stressed out mother and the other is a super glamourous and rich society girl. And they decide to swap lives for a while. It also stars Gina Lollobrigida, Barry Bostwick and a very young Fairuza Balk. It has everything that you want from an 80s miniseries. Glamourous Dynasty style clothes, jewels and mansions. Glamourous locations in London, Rome, Venice etc. Backstabbing, lies and mystery. Its on youtube and I highly recommend to anyone that hasn't seen it. I rate it as highly as Lace and Mistrals Daughter.
I cannot believe you failed to mention "The Breakfast Club," "Weird Science," "Sixteen Candles," and one of my personal all-time favorites, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." This film not only had a wonderfully written script but also offered ground-breaking animation/live-action interaction. Don't assume that this is a kid's movie because it is not. Yes, the animated characters are there for the kids, but there are a lot of scenes and references that kids will not get. This film I highly recommend.
I didn’t mention John Hughes movies because they are very much part of the culture and get talked about often. Same with Roger Rabbit. This video was about neglected movies that no one ever talks about.
Great list! I recognized every one of these movies. I also watch the same reaction channels for the same reasons. Side note, I knew I was getting old when one of the teenagers at my work had never heard of Tom Cruise. But but but, I feel so young. Anyway, cool channel and subscribed.
Mosquito Coast and Witness were both powerhouse performances from Harrison Ford and both Peter Weir films. Thanks for shouting out my home town, and for having Empire of the Sun on here I'd probably marry you.
You might need to add another list to include About Last Night and From the Hip. From the Hip is a Gem of a movie and one of Jud Nelson's best performance. 😊
Also, Dangerous Liasions. Michelle Pfifer, John Malchovic and Glenn Close. An acting tour de force. Also Ladyhawk. Rutgers Hauer, Mathew Broderick and Michelle Pfifer looking so beautiful you almost can't look directly at her, like the sun! A period piece and the best romance of the 1980s!
Just discovered your channel. Fellow GenXer, born in '78. I've got some more movies that should be on this list. (Yes, some of these were popular, but I never hear them talked about much anymore besides among other GenXers.) Revenge of the Nerds Beaches Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Willow Troop Beverly Hills Over the Top Valley Girl La Bamba Pretty in Pink She's Out of Control License to Drive For Keeps? Baby Boom Protocol The Heavenly Kid Uncle Buck Overboard St. Elmo's Fire Harry and the Hendersons Without a Trace Big Business Three Fugitives That's all I've got for now.
Great stuff! I looooved this list❤! And I have a few to add on my own... Body heat - film noir thriller with William Hurt and a steamy Kathleen Turner in her first role. Bagdad café - cult comedy-drama with CCH Pounder Ladyhawke - beautiful and a bit campy fantasy drama with Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer Something wild - Melanie Griffith on form in this comedy Cat people - cult campy horror/thriller with Nastasija Kinski and WIlliam Hurt and with a killer soundtrack by new wave composer Giorgio Moroder and David Bowie sings the title song! Desperately seeking Susan - Hilarious comedy with Rosanna Arquette and with a fantastic Madonna who kind of plays herself. Ruthless people - Comedy with Bette Midler and Danny DeVito Cocoon - feelgood sci-fi comedy drama by Ron Howard Brazil - Monty Python-like comedy on steroids Outrageous fortune - comedy with a fantastic pairing of Bette Midler and Shelley Long. Blood simple - The Coen Brothers first movie...and it is great! Romacing the stone (and the sequel The jewel of the Nile) - Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas on Indiana Jones adventures. Starman - John Carpenter film Legend - Fantastic fantasy film with a young Tom Cruise Mommie Dearest - Faye Dunaway in great form portraying Joan Crawford Ordinary people - Oscar winning drama with fantastic performances Body double - Brian de Palma's Hitchcock tribute, a raunchy thriller with Melanie Griffith on form Missing - Gripping drama with great performances from Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek Iceman - Timothy Hutton in sci-fi/drama about a prehistorical iceman melting into life Tootsie - might be a bit dated now, but it is still great fun seeing Dustin Hoffman in women's clothes and it also has Teri Garr and Jessica Lange Crimes of the heart - black comedy about three sisters, Jessica Lange, Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek After hours - hilarious Scorsese film with Rosanna Arquette, Griffin Dunne and Teri Garr I am sure there are more, these were just the ones I got from the top of my head...
So many great picks here, but I wanted to specifically shout out The Big Chill! That movie is perfect! Watched it last year after it was featured on the Rewatchables Podcast, and it was instantly a favorite! Fantastic film!
IMO the best scene is when Chris and the kids are stopped in the bar by the legendary Albert Collins who says "Nobody gets outta here without singin' the Blues." Thus, the Blues song "The Baysittin'' Blues" is born
Regarding the Great Outdoors, I am not too sure if some of y'all know that there is one final "raccoon scene" after the credits. I still remember the dialog. Raccoon 1 asks Raccoon 2 "Why is Jodi (referring to the bear) sitting in the lake? Raccoon 2 asks number 1 You didn't hear?" Number 1 "No" Number 2 "She got shot in the ass." Number 1 (while putting his face in his hands) "Don't tell me" Number 2 "Yup, she's bald on both ends now." You have to see the movie to understand the jokes about the raccoon scenes and to learn the TRUE ingredients of a hot dog.
Awesome list! Thank you so much for making this video. It brings back so many wonderful memories! I agree regarding Henry V. Best music ever and it was the first time I understood the language. So happy that you mentioned Funny Farm too. It was such a great movie about community.

Solid list! You left out a couple good ones though. Real Genius, Hudson Hawk, UHF, Clue and Johnney Dangerously. Oh! Maybe another list of 30. Just a thought..
Totally agree that I love watching reactor channels, and experiencing some of my favorite classic movies with a brand new set of eyes. A few favorites of mine that I wish more UA-camrs would react to... 1) Red Dawn -- This is quintessential 80s Cold War fears brought (intelligently) to the screen. 2) Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. This is a great action/comedy that needs to be seen by more people! 3) Solarbabies. Not a great movie, by any stretch, but I really liked it when I was a kid. 4) Ladyhawke. Excellent low fantasy film starring Rutger Hauer and Matthew Broderick! 5) Revenge of the Ninja. Absolute essential 80s martial arts film that forever made the word ninja part of popular culture! 6) Howard the Duck. Corny and cringy, but fun! 7) The Bear. This is a 1988 film about an orphaned bear cub. Very well done and worth seeing! Forgot these two... 8) Enemy Mine 9) Dreamsacpe Both are good movies, starring Dennis Quaid.
That’s so cool that you watched it because of my video. It’s loaded with a lot of familiar faces. I know it has a cheese factor, but I still think it’s worth the watch!
Great video idea. So many forgotten movies. They maybe weren't all greats, but a film doesn't have to be the next Gone With the Wind or Star Wars (whatever the original movie is called now) to be an enjoyable watch. When VHS were coming out I remember that there were many TV movies that I kept waiting to make it to video that never did, then when DVD showed up, it seemed like again a lot of movies didnt make the transfer cut. Wonder how many of those made it to Blue Ray or streaming. Shame; at this rate more could be gone than saved. So it's nice to get reviews or reactions to some of the once fondly remembered that have gotten forgotten.

Yes! 48 Hours is a Great addition to my list for the sequel of this video! Thanks for your insightful comment.
I'm glad you included A Fish Called Wanda. It's one of my 5 favourite movies.
_oh Brewster, yer so kewl, HA HA HAAAAAA_ 👍🏾
As a hardcore Gen-Xer (born in 1970), I couldn’t agree more with your list. In fact I would also include 30 additional titles. The late 70’s to entire 80’s were truly a phenomenal era in film.
Btw “French Fries, French Dressing, French Bread and to drink, Peru.”
(Also loosely based on a true story).
@@SSGTStryker thank you! That’s so cool to hear. 😊
Excellent list.. I’d add, Real Genius, My Science Project, The Last Starfighter, Ice Pirates, and Space Hunter (young Molly Ringwald).. and I know there are a few others that might be a lil risqué but non the less poignant and relevant for the time… Grease2, Porky’s trilogy, Hardbodies, to name just a few 😊
Thank you so much for highlighting sum of my best cinematic memories from that era; was best time of my Life ever!!! 🤗
Those were some great choices! I may have to do a sequel to this video. lol. I already have a 90s list in the works.
@@mysocalledgenxlife yes pls and thx.. sum gr8 90s too 👌🫠👍
I concur, Buckaroo Bonsai!!!!!, Time After Time, Time Bandits, Dragonslayer, Nighthawks, Gorky Park, Firefox, 2010, Blue Thunder, Outland…oh hell everything Peter Hymes and John Badham made.
@@SSGTStryker pardon me, Sgt.. Iron Eagle ?!!
What an Awesome channel. You must be one Rad lady😎 keep up the great videos. Your time and talent is appreciated.
🔥
My vote is for The last American Virgin 1982. This film taught me more about life than any other. The soundtrack is iconic too.
Oh Batteries Not Included and Short Circuit were out around same time as Flight of Navigator Radio Flyer The Boy Who Could Fly and Dennis Quaid in Frequency but I can’t remember what year it came out
Oh man. I had forgotten all about the boy who could fly. Wild
Explorers, Enemy Mine, Legend, The Last Emperor, Star Man
The Burbs would make for a good Tom Hanks double feature as a dark comedy counterpoint to The Money Pit.
And yes, we did have an appreciation for Joyce Hyser. Didn’t dethrone Soace Camp Lea Thompson for me, though.
I only remember one line from The Burbs: "It came with the frame."
The Burb is great especially the laughing scene.
Great cast in the Burbs as well. One of my favorites from the 80's.
The "Walter....I have your dog" bit made me legit lol when I first saw it.😅😅
Summer School! “My zipper got stuck” 😂
I have seen a few reaction channels tackle Mr Mom and Adventures in Babysitting.. and overwhelming thumbs up from those reaction channels so the channels are slowly exploring these movies.
Return to Oz and Dolls are creepy and unique movies that I think deserve more attention.
Rented all these back in the day... good times. Good list.
Overboard Ive seen a few, Labyrinth many have done, Ive seen one Turner and Hooch and Point Break
One 80's movie I wish they would react to is "Arthur" (1981) I can't believe that's not trending!
@@mysocalledgenxlife 100%. And immediately recognizing what a tool bag her boyfriend is haha
@mysocalledgenxlife my favorite line from any movie is from Adventures...
Who's that?
Stray dog.
What do we do about him?
Get in the car and run him over!
Oh man, I had to add so many movies to my to-watch list (and I am an Xer!). Thank you!
Great list! Here are some of my favs that I also don't think enough people remember as often or as fondly as I do:
1. The Boy Who Could Fly...omg, what a tearjerker! Watched it recently, still held up.
2. Summer School...so hard to find, but so worth the search
3. Lucas...one of both Corey Haim and Winona Ryder's first major films---they were both so young and tiny but so talented already!
4. The Incredible Shrinking Woman...possible the weirdest movie I ever loved
5. Troop Beverly Hills...so....freaking....good!!!
And one honorable mention that some might consider a cult classic so I didn't include it: Teen Witch...pure 80's camp at it's finest so "top that!" 😂
There are few reactions to "The great outdoors" but I think there should definitely be more.
Flight of the Navigator! So good I my young boy memories
Less Than Zero, One Crazy Summer, Cloak and Dagger, The Manhattan Project, Dune, The Last Starfighter, Three Amigos, CLUE, Overboard, Dragonslayer, KRULL, They Live...
I could go on for a while.
Right? There are so many great movies and pop culture to explore from the 80s. I don’t need to watch anything current!
¡Three Amigos! They more than famous, they are in-famous.
Thanks!
@@mysocalledgenxlife LA has a sound track by Wang Chung - could you get more 80s? 😊
And, Good Job and Good luck!
Great list! Saw almost all of those as a young bachelor raiding blockbuster to see all the stuff I'd missed growing up. Those were great days!
Nothing brings me back to when the world was much a simpler and I think better time than your channel. Love em.
Here’s a few more that came to mind:
The Toy (Richard Pryor, Jackie Gleason)
They Call Me Bruce
Firefox (Clint Eastwood)
Uncle Buck (John Candy)
Saw all of them in the theater.
And on RCA’s Select-a-Vision CED player we had 1980’s The Private Eyes starring Tim Conway and Don Knotts.
The Toy brings back crazy nostalgia for me
Girrrl Peggy Sue's one of my all time favorite movies!!
Oooh! I think I remember this. I will look it up. Great suggestion!
I guess being a Gen Xer, we don't recognize many of these movies as "neglected". Great list!
Oh thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Welcome 😊
@@mysocalledgenxlife All The Right Moves from 1983 with Tom Cruise and Lea Thompson. Great soundtrack which I own on Cassette and CD!🏈💽😉👍
Mosquito Coast and Witness were both powerhouse performances from Harrison Ford and both Peter Weir films. Thanks for shouting out my home town, and for having Empire of the Sun on here I'd probably marry you.
Another great video Natalie - perfect for a nostalgic mood. Thank you.
Thanks, now I have A LOT of movies to watch
That was the goal! 😊
This list was fantastic!
Thank you for including Empire of the Sun. It’s an excellent film with stunning cinematography. One of my all time favorites!
Every Friday night in the late 80's at my house was a rented VHS and pizza night! Great memories of an innocent time!
You might need to add another list to include About Last Night and From the Hip. From the Hip is a Gem of a movie and one of Jud Nelson's best performance. 😊
There is definitely a sequel coming. Great recommendations! Thanks!
My lord is this bringing me back!!!!
I watched Flight of the Navigator so many times..... "compliance"
I LOVED Flight of the Navigator
I bet I watched Can't Buy Me Love a thousand times as a kid. A top favorite for sure ❤
I loved Space Camp
I loved the robot in Space Camp.
@@ThomasDrish So did I. He just wanted Max to go into space
Great list. I feel seen.

Just discovered your channel. Fellow GenXer, born in '78. I've got some more movies that should be on this list. (Yes, some of these were popular, but I never hear them talked about much anymore besides among other GenXers.)
Revenge of the Nerds
Beaches
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
Willow
Troop Beverly Hills
Over the Top
Valley Girl
La Bamba
Pretty in Pink
She's Out of Control
License to Drive
For Keeps?
Baby Boom
Protocol
The Heavenly Kid
Uncle Buck
Overboard
St. Elmo's Fire
Harry and the Hendersons
Without a Trace
Big Business
Three Fugitives
That's all I've got for now.
I can't believe I've watched all but one of these movies. There's a bunch of them I've got to re-watch asap. Thanks for the reminder😉
8 men out was a history lesson & entertaining.
Great stuff! I looooved this list❤! And I have a few to add on my own...
Body heat - film noir thriller with William Hurt and a steamy Kathleen Turner in her first role.
Bagdad café - cult comedy-drama with CCH Pounder
Ladyhawke - beautiful and a bit campy fantasy drama with Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer
Something wild - Melanie Griffith on form in this comedy
Cat people - cult campy horror/thriller with Nastasija Kinski and WIlliam Hurt and with a killer soundtrack by new wave composer Giorgio Moroder and David Bowie sings the title song!
Desperately seeking Susan - Hilarious comedy with Rosanna Arquette and with a fantastic Madonna who kind of plays herself.
Ruthless people - Comedy with Bette Midler and Danny DeVito
Cocoon - feelgood sci-fi comedy drama by Ron Howard
Brazil - Monty Python-like comedy on steroids
Outrageous fortune - comedy with a fantastic pairing of Bette Midler and Shelley Long.
Blood simple - The Coen Brothers first movie...and it is great!
Romacing the stone (and the sequel The jewel of the Nile) - Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas on Indiana Jones adventures.
Starman - John Carpenter film
Legend - Fantastic fantasy film with a young Tom Cruise
Mommie Dearest - Faye Dunaway in great form portraying Joan Crawford
Ordinary people - Oscar winning drama with fantastic performances
Body double - Brian de Palma's Hitchcock tribute, a raunchy thriller with Melanie Griffith on form
Missing - Gripping drama with great performances from Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek
Iceman - Timothy Hutton in sci-fi/drama about a prehistorical iceman melting into life
Tootsie - might be a bit dated now, but it is still great fun seeing Dustin Hoffman in women's clothes and it also has Teri Garr and Jessica Lange
Crimes of the heart - black comedy about three sisters, Jessica Lange, Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek
After hours - hilarious Scorsese film with Rosanna Arquette, Griffin Dunne and Teri Garr
I am sure there are more, these were just the ones I got from the top of my head...
I was an extra in 'Wildcats.'
So many great picks here, but I wanted to specifically shout out The Big Chill! That movie is perfect! Watched it last year after it was featured on the Rewatchables Podcast, and it was instantly a favorite! Fantastic film!
@retromacman620
I like the British knockoff, Peter’s Friends.
Tin Men 1987
IMO the best scene is when Chris and the kids are stopped in the bar by the legendary Albert Collins who says "Nobody gets outta here without singin' the Blues." Thus, the Blues song "The Baysittin'' Blues" is born
CAT'S EYE looks good. Never saw it.
Regarding the Great Outdoors, I am not too sure if some of y'all know that there is one final "raccoon scene" after the credits. I still remember the dialog.
Raccoon 1 asks Raccoon 2 "Why is Jodi (referring to the bear) sitting in the lake?
Raccoon 2 asks number 1 You didn't hear?"
Number 1 "No"
Number 2 "She got shot in the ass."
Number 1 (while putting his face in his hands) "Don't tell me"
Number 2 "Yup, she's bald on both ends now."
You have to see the movie to understand the jokes about the raccoon scenes and to learn the TRUE ingredients of a hot dog.
Awesome list! Thank you so much for making this video. It brings back so many wonderful memories! I agree regarding Henry V. Best music ever and it was the first time I understood the language. So happy that you mentioned Funny Farm too. It was such a great movie about community.
Great list! You nailed down many of my personal favs! Space Camp, Flight of the Navigator, Chances Are, A Fish Called Wanda, Better Off Dead, Adventures In Babysitting and Can't Buy Me Love!
Here's some other 80s faves that I'd love to see reactions to:
Overboard
Seems Like Old Times
Moonstruck
Victor/Victoria
9 to 5
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Deathtrap
Escape from New York
To Be or Not To Be
Innerspace
Evil Under the Sun
Starman
Kiss Me Goodbye
The Dream Team
Brighton Beach Memoirs
Suspect
Continental Divide
Thanks for the great list!!
Moonstruck's a great one and so is Mermaids. Cher made some true bangers back then
21:50 "Paperboy with a grudge" is putting it mildly. That kid would go through Hell and back just to get his two dollars.
I WANT MYYYY 2 DOLLARS!!
8) Enemy Mine
9) Dreamsacpe
Both are good movies, starring Dennis Quaid.
I love your list , inner space was great too , another Dennis quaid flick
Hey so I finally watched SpaceCamp because of your video. I haven’t seen that many young stars since Fast Times at Ridgemont High! 😂
That’s so cool that you watched it because of my video. It’s loaded with a lot of familiar faces. I know it has a cheese factor, but I still think it’s worth the watch!
@@mysocalledgenxlife It was a fun watch! I have quibbles with portions, but hey, it’s my Gen X cynicism lol
Man with the one red shoe.
A movie from 1982 that l love but many people aren't aware of (and should be) is MY FAVORITE YEAR. Hilarious, adventurous, romantic. So fun!
Also born in 77’ found your Channel tonight and been watching all your vids. Brought back so many memories and my 17 yo was shocked I remember all the theme songs on your tv show video 😂
I love this so much! Thanks for the comment!
I love being a millennial raised by gen-x parents. GenX raised millennials just hit different. I know most of these movies, and they impacted my childhood too. It’s kind of like having a bit of a peek into a decade I didn’t see first hand. ❤
A great list! One of my favorite forgotten 80’s classics is Cousins, with Ted Danson & Isabella Rossellini. 🥰
I love Flight of the Navigator, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Adventures in Babysitting, Dead Poets Society, Funny Farm and The Money Pit. Most of if not all of these movies I remember watching them in school over the years. They would often show us movies as the end of the school year got closer.
Oh man, I forgot all about She's Having A Baby! Such a great movie. I also loved that movie Indian Summer though that was 1992 I think. THAT'S a great movie, if you've never seen it
Awesome job! I haven’t seen every one of these, but you nailed it ❤
One of my favorite movies is "Something Wicked This Way Comes." Talk about horror and a beautifully done movie that stays with you for years to come.
I graduated in 07... My first two cars were an 88 5.0 mustang and the same all white cabro as seen in can't buy me love... I remember the first time I watched the movie I was like " hey thats my car!"
I’m sooooo jealous!!
nice. i laughed alot because i worked part time evenings at a local video store in 1987-88 and many of the movies here were always the movies with 100 copies sittin on the shelf and folks only renting them because all the vhs tape copies of the popular movies were gone. I specifically remember Mystic Pizza NEVER being rented. Back to School was ALWAYS out.
Hello Again with Shelley Long is one of my forgotten favourites. It’s very silly but a childhood favourite
