Great video tutorial. I’d like to add, when I did my Easter and Halloween decorations I used paper templates. So when you’re at Lowe’s getting the insulation board, also grab a length of the brown paper roll they have by the exit. Draw your design on the paper, cut it out and trace on as many decorations as you want to make.
Wonderful!!!! Thank you for making this video…..you explain everything so clearly I think this 72 year old woman can even make it!!!! My grandchildren will love it🎄
Monica, you are amazing. Thank you for this. It’s really simple, you can definitely try it! And if you do make it, would love to see the pictures. You can find me on Facebook at “Isaac Alexander DIY”
Honestly you are one of my favorite designer-builders on you tube, always excellent explaining everything in videos and best sound quality in videos. The nutcracker is one of my favorites, the most time consuming , but we'll worth it.
These are all very cute. Will have to convince the hubs that it's ok to use insulation board for more than insulation. I would paint a black dot in the center of the "eyes" prior to painting the white to add more interest to the eyes. I love your creative use of ornaments to decorate these. Thanks for sharing. Best to you.
I loved this!!! I made this last year for my company's Trunk or Treat event and our Halloween parade. It was a candy theme, and these worked perfect for kids to take pictures with!
I absolutely love these!!! This is actually my theme for Christmas this year. The only thing I felt needed to be different is the eyes, I really don't care for the sold white. Maybe make black circles or ovals for the pupils of the eyes. I really don't know what but I think they would look better. I'm not trying to put yours down at all, they are great, just the white ones freak me out. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us and God bless you and your family this holiday season and the new year coming.
HI Isaac, Great idea and how to. I Positioned the arms slightly down verses up and I was able to get a 6ft GB man that was pretty well proportioned. THx for sharing the knowledge. One suggestion for others I found make sure you make your cuts kinda on the fast side. If you try to go slow the blade will heat up and melt your line rather than cut the line.
I absolutely love your projects!!! I definitely need to make this decoration this Christmas!!!! Thank you for take the time to share your amazing work. ❤

Wow! Look at the Gingerbread family hehe, these look beautiful and I love how each one is different and unique. You gave each gingerbread it’s own special detail. When is your show on HGTV coming out?!
To make these more waterproof and outdoor-friendly, you should coat the whole thing with Drylock before painting. It will give the foam a solid shell and a slightly gritty texture (which mimics the look of bread even more). Should be about $30 for a full can at Home Depot. Also - for anyone who's curious - based on this video, full cost per gingerbread man looks to be about $100 of material approx. You can save some money by purchasing the foamboards at Home Depot instead of Lowe's.
I was wondering how they would hold up if it rained. I am not a good crafter so I need to ask is Drylock a spray or something that I would have to mix?
I love them. When I tell wedding guests we are the house with the gingerbread men and 2 tall soldiers they will know. And my twin 3 year old grandchildren will love them.
These are amazing!! I live in Melbourne, Aus... During our Summer Christmas, we get really hot weather, rain and sometimes heavy wind (four seasons in one day). If I use exactly the same items you have, will these be okay in these conditions and be longlasting or would you reccomend any alternatives for the listed items? So excited to make these! Thanks :)
Love these will have to give them a try, I do have one question... how weather resistant is the foam board. Will it stand up to several years of use out would plywood be a better choice for longevity? Thanks!
Bro your creativity is awesome! Givin me tons of ideas. I Better get to it so I can finish before the holidays. No issues with rain on these foam boards? I live in California so it’s not super bad here but it will rain during December. Just wanna be sure. Thanks man!
These look great! I’m thinking of making various silhouettes from foam board. Was wondering how yours have held up after being out in the weather for multiple Christmas seasons?
Great idea, I’ve been wanting to do something like this. I’d probably put some pvc on both legs though. Just so the wind doesn’t blow him to face different directions. I’ve had that problem with my lollipops and candy canes.
These are amazing! Not sure how I've just discovered your channel, but you def have a new subscriber. 😊 I'm gonna have to remember this idea for next Christmas (my boys have Dec birthdays so I'm in party planning mode so no time for Christmas decor projects). Thanks for sharing!
You make everything you do look so easy. These came out looking Amazing! I am so tempted to try. Thinking the Gingerbread Man from Shrek "Gingy" would be cool. Missing leg and candy cane crutch lol.
Oh yes! That character would be such a great addition. I might make one with a bite taken out of it. I try to take the hard out or hard looking projects ☺️
Just saw this a few minutes ago. Wondered how the hot melt glue held up to rainy or snowy weather? Also, before you paint, you could coat with something like Drylock masonry coating to "stiffen up" the foam board and would also give the board a stippled finish. In place of using hot melt glue, use outdoor use caulking to glue stuff down. Just a few alternatives.
Hot glue is definitely not the most ideal option because in areas where it’s applied thin, it was coming undone after rainy weather so a few weeks into the holiday season I had to reapply hot glue in various locations. I normally go through about 3 gallons of Drylok every season because I use it so often. I never use it on insulation foam board though because latex exterior paint is more than enough to weatherproof it. I’ve used insulation foam board for years and never use DryLok and they last just fine. Granted, DryLok does give a really nice texture which I have used on tombstones before. Caulking is a great adhesive, only issue is that it takes too long to drive. Hot glue takes under a minute but caulking takes hours and hours but definitely like all these ideas so thank you 😊
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY You could use a bit of hot glue to hold it together "for now" but also put the caulking on it to hold it together long-term. My question is, does the spray foam adhere to the insulation board very well? I didn't see a picture of the back of the gingerbread men and am curious to see what it looks like over time.

This turned out great! You definitely inspired me to try out to some gingerbread men this year. Have you considered drilling into the bottom of the foam and placing the PVC pipe in the middle of the foam? I've had good success with that technique for tombstones. Of course I've never tried it with something that tall, but if it works it'd be a nice way to hide the pvc.
Thank you so much for this. I actually didn’t try that method because of the size of the gingerbread. But yes, that’s a great method for tomb stones I just felt it was too tall for it to work properly. The workaround would be to cut an identical gingerbread and glue it to the back after carving space for PVC pipes

I’m not sure what more I could’ve shown with that since it’s only putting a rebar into the ground and then putting the PVC that I attached at minute 10:32 over the rebar.

Watching your diy Christmas videos brings out the kid in me. When I was a kid we had garland but it was all candy and then we had ornaments that looked like candy and homemade gingerbread ornaments and it looked awesome because we also had the c9 Christmas lights. I really love these gingerbread men and would love to do this, but I am trying to figure out the best way to do it. I really enjoy your channel - super creative stuff. Thanks!
Great idea! Love how you made this sweet decoration. Will definitely be making this. Thank you for sharing.
You’re very welcome !
Love it!! Great to see a man making a cute craft!!!!
Thank you so much Bella!
So the Reverb is going to go inside of the PVC pipe on the back?,, cuz I'm not quite understanding the last part
I wish you would have given us a shot of the back of it.
How you made it stand.👍🏼🤞🏼
Watching your diy Christmas videos brings out the kid in me. When I was a kid we had garland but it was all candy and then we had ornaments that looked like candy and homemade gingerbread ornaments and it looked awesome because we also had the c9 Christmas lights. I love gingerbread men and candy canes plus I love when the outline of a house is done with lights and around all of the windows and candy canes going up a sidewalk. I can’t wait to have my own home some day.
Thank you so much for this awesome comment Patrick. My new line of Christmas tutorials begins launching the first week of November. I too have similar sentiments and memories of Christmas. Hopefully when you have your own home one day you’ll be able to create your own Christmas wonderland
I LOVE all your DIYS!!!! thank you for sharing! They look awesome 😁
This is my type of guy ❤️ he does DIY’s and cute? 😍😍😍 in love. Very creative
Thank you so much for the kind words, JoAlbert!
Hi, great video, newbie just found you. But only thing I missed is the detai/or step of how the rebar you mention is done. I would've liked to see the details to the end!
I'm new at this & just need the extra guide that completes the project! Thanks
The rebar is just hammered into the ground. And that’s it. Then the PVC that is attached to the back goes over the rebar.
Thanks for sharing your talent.
You’re quite welcome!
I'm borrowing this idea for next year, I feel like it's an awesome difference to having inflatibles every year
I completely agree!
