    You should do a video talking about some of your experiences on the job times you felt most proud to be a police officer, scariest experiences as an officer, funny interactions you’ve had on duty, etc. I’d be interested to hear, keep up the great work!

    Great information that provides a lot of insight for someone wanting to begin a law enforcement career…or public safety in general for that matter.
    Keep the videos coming!

    I was a city cop for all 30 years. The first one at a large city, 1000 + sworn, but found it was not for me. After two years I got a job at a mid size city, 300 + sworn officers and was more comfortable and retired from there in 1997. Both agencies had civil service protections for all of their employees, a VERY important consideration.

      Yes! I agree! I feel like my agency gets a bad rap but our civil service protection is incredibly. People may be terminated unjustly but they win in the end even with all the politics! 💙

    One of the things I look for in a department is work schedule. We all have and enjoy spending time with our family, but at times it seems most departments don't take into account a work life well balanced with a time off for the officer's personal life. I've worked 8hr and 12hr shifts but most departments well only offer 2 days off and 3 if you're lucky. Something to consider is also overtime, I've already fallen for the " temporary " overtime that became mandatory and has been going strong since 2019.

      Yes, and the shifts and overtime can get overwhelming…quickly. These are great points! Thank you for pointing it out! 💙

    Good points. Are all these items easy to find and ask about? Who and how would you ask about some of these without being viewed as too much or something of that nature? I would assume many applicants aren’t thorough enough in department research and hiring.
    And poor poor officer Smith.

      I'm sure a background investigator or Human Resources could assist with the information. And yes, poor Officer Smith, but hopefully Officer Smith works for an agency that has civil service protection!

    You should make a video where you take us through your getting ready process and give us a day-in-the-life!

    Hey, I was just wondering if police academy is something you’d recommend as a new mom? My fitness test and writing is in September… My baby is 2 months and I’m trying to get into shape before academy which is in January 2024, should I wait?

    • @copmom911
      @copmom911  Рік тому +1

      With an infant, no, I would not. But that is just me. I don’t know your personal situation or what that specific academy is like. The academy is extremely physically demanding, even for someone is in normal physical health. Postpartum is a whole different animal, a lot goes into your recovery and your body returning to normal after being depleted for 9 months. The academy would probably be best when the demands from your baby are less and your body has stabilized. If it were me, I would give myself a good year. But that is just me. Enjoy your time with your baby while you can. Police academies will always be there waiting. Your baby will grow insanely quickly and will only be little so long. I say this as I play with my 9 month old who is growing like crazy and crawling everywhere now. Cherish your children. Everything else, including policing can wait.

      @@zvxiv_7027 if you feel great physically and up for it with loads of support with baby, I’m not saying don’t. I’ve just been doing this a long time and after 3 babies, I always wish I had more time with my children, not more time with the police department…even though I love it. 💙 and I know that as a mom, you need to heal and baby needs you so much right now. That’s where my thinking comes from. But please do what feels right for you and your baby!
