Good to hear your family doing well especially most Ethiopians thinks that Inflation is crashing only Ethiopia. It's a world wide occurrence once in a while.

Hi! Good to see you again in the comments. Generally speaking, when development to this great extent is being done in a nation by a foreign nation, it leads to more influence and control of the foreign nation in the country they are “helping”. Kind of like a silent colonization. However, in this case it’s not the typical Western nations of the past, it’s China and Arabs. Regarding the residents who were negatively affected by the development, one commenter mentioned that the government is building new apartment tenements that those families can live in for free. Thanks for sharing your observation. It seems that everything happening in Ethiopia is not considering the needs of the people, and it's concerning where the country is heading. It feels like there hasn’t been much thoughtfulness behind the changes taking place.
@@princesslivingfree I wish that’s the case, but I don’t think so. Floating currency is the norm in most countries of the world. Its introduction in Ethiopia narrows the wide gap between the legal and parallel markets, thereby promoting honest trading and virtuous remittance, among other major benefits. For returnee diaspora the financial reforms have a lot more to offer in terms of legal exchange rates, the right to have foreign currency accounts in local banks, the controls to the amount of FC one can bring in or take out of the country, etc.. Regarding the corridor development, did you know that thousands of the slum dwellers in the affected areas are housed in condominium tenements? Unlike the gentrification driven by real estate developers in the States, the corridor developments are pro-poor with provisions for public amenities, greenery and jobs.
Yes, floating currency is the norm in most countries. Also, good point about the condominium tenements! I did hear about these, and I have seen them. I totally forgot to mention that so I’m glad you brought it up. Thanks for sharing!
However it has failed to eliminate the black market because businesses or whoever wants foreign currency can't access it through legal means. If they fully liberate the Forex as in almost everywhere in Africa there will be no black market since there is no need for it.
@@solomonderese9311 The floating currency has already narrowed the gap between the legal and the parallel markets. Those who want to do legitimate business or send remittance use more and more the banks and FX bureaus. In due course the parallel market weathers away. See for instance the remittance service Ethio Telecom launched today.
welcome back. Birr is now devalued and I guess a Dollar is now 115Birr(ish) used to be 57B. Has something to do with IMF and WB policy. Ethiopia must meet the requirements to get a loan from those banks and devaluing is the first step. Also, the government is trying to fight back the parallel/ black market. So if you have hard currency, now is good time to spend. Overnight the birr in your bank account can become worthless. This austerity measure affects so many people but I heard the government will subsidize some critical products(gas, prescription drugs, food oil) and increase the minimum wage. How is your house project coming?
Interesting about the home school being illegal. Does that mean school is mandatory for all children? Glad you were able to get a discount on the International school for the boys. Addis cost of living is way moe affordable than I thought.
@@AfroMillennialMomma Yes, school is mandatory for all children. Addis cost of living is relatively affordable, the expensive things are rent, land, cars, and buying or building a house.
You're spot on about rushing to modernize my sister. Those with shallow knowledge about westernization thinks it's all good. But we Ethiopians need to be careful about adapting foreign culture and attitudes. BTW you can only buy electric vehicles now unless you choose to buy a second hand 😂.
The reality is majority of business didnt use the banking price to buy and sell merchandise 🤷🏾♂️why? Because was never aviable, so there will not big issues because the real market price was always the "alternative market"
i dont know, if you are discret, but your Suspetion about the Teacher may be Right, mostly. even if there is lots of univ. Hello You have to think about your own professional development after sometime, while taking care of your own children. Do you think you can train as a nurse for a better job opportunities and to help your own home financially. The standard of living in Eth. is not easy to handle as time goes by.
Hello sister, my question is regarding the yellow card. How long after marriage to an Ethiopian can you apply for the yellow card?? Is there a waiting period or not?
I love your channel. I agree with your thoughts on education in Ethiopia but the corridor development is poor centered and definitely not like you stated. Parks are not westernization for Ethiopians. We love green areas and flowers the government just created more of them and made them accessible to all people specially for the poor because it comes with no cost. And there are a lot of pedestrians in Ethiopia so they made wider and cleaner side walks and bike lane for bikers. it is also for safety so that people and bikers would not be on the same road as cars. I think more and more Ethiopians are happy about it now that they are seeing the final look and benefits.
Thanks for watching! I completely agree with your points about the green areas! They are beautiful and my family and I are enjoying them very much. Yes, the city clean up and sidewalks are necessary, and I’ve made that point in a previous video on this channel. My main concern is that most of these projects, and others, are funded by other nations, which unfortunately, gives them some level of influence in the nation. The same thing happened in the U.S., the Chinese government, and others, pretty much run and control our politicians these days. Their agendas are part of the reason we’re beginning to see the downfall of such a “well developed” nation like the USA. Time will tell what will happen in Ethiopia. However, I still 100% believe it’s the place to be for the future.
Hi there, we went to Cambridge and sanferd trying to get info and tuition fee they just gave us pamphlet that is similar to their web page no one mentioned local rate instead, we should pay dollar exchange in bank rate, can you give a hint where is 20 to 35k birr tuition fee appreciate you.
I carry USA passport but born and raised in Addis Ababa Ethiopia , i also have resdance card i wonder that what is needed to get benefits.@werqzeleke2815
Actually, it’s not true that you have to be an Ethiopian citizen. We are not citizens of Ethiopia. If the school offers a lower rate for locals, all you need is to present your Ethiopian Origin ID card (yellow card).
even if they lern Amharic would be for your children defecult to understand as there Native Language. Thank you! thats the main Reason, why africans are now studing in there own language. But, anyway, it would be good, if they try too keep there relation to the Native School, if there would be some Activities, they can share, then i think, at the end of the day, if they lern the native language i think, it would not afect them much, they will be defenately stronger. i think within a year, they will be passing the language barrier and will be same level to thedre friends. it would be advisable. Loock, our language is not based on Fascism. That means, there is not hiden things, you can lern and go with it, there is not barrier.
It's full of gibberish that doesn't give any indication, 1. There are no numbers and no prices, 2. There is no information on a person's average income, 3. You don't introduce yourself clearly, who are you? What percentage of residents do you represent, whether it's in terms of income or living conditions, 4. Your criticism of city development is unfounded. Just because you are tired of the Western world do you expect locals to live in the Stone Age ? Okay we will halt progress for your sake. If you long for a traditional lifestyle, consider moving to the countryside. Additionally, city development is necessary and those who legally owned property were compensated accordingly. My advice to you is to only speak on topics you are knowledgeable about.
@@EternalLife-fu6nk Actually, your criticism of me is unfounded. If you have been watching my blogs, you would see that my family and I are very much enjoying the development (parks, museums, etc.) There are both pros and cons to it, however, and in this particular video, I was expressing the things I’ve witnessed firsthand. I have seen and heard of many legal businesses and land owners losing their property without compensation. Also, with high levels of foreign investment come foreign strings and control. Those are a few of my concerns, and I did not want to come across insensitive to those who have been negatively impacted. However, a lot good is also coming out of this development, and it is nice to see that Ethiopia is trying to rise out of poverty as a nation. P.S. I LOVE the rural areas more than the cities, and I have lived there. At this time though, the city works better for our family.
Have a pleasant visit/stay, but remember that those who have been displaced are not authorized to settle there. Avoid getting involved with individuals who are promoting their political beliefs. Are you on a secret mission?
@@EternalLife-fu6nk Yes, I have heard that some of the homes were built on land that was not legally obtained. Secret mission? No, not at all. My husband is Ethiopian born and raised. We moved back to Ethiopia from the U.S. with our children.

Yes, I heard about the subsidies. The house is coming along very well.
Best school for your child
My suggestion leading star college or Cambridge
You're spot on about rushing to modernize my sister. Those with shallow knowledge about westernization thinks it's all good. But we Ethiopians need to be careful about adapting foreign culture and attitudes. BTW you can only buy electric vehicles now unless you choose to buy a second hand 😂.
@@phoenix0000 Oh yeah! Another update I forgot to mention! Thanks.
The reality is majority of business didnt use the banking price to buy and sell merchandise 🤷🏾♂️why? Because was never aviable, so there will not big issues because the real market price was always the "alternative market"
That’s also what we’ve seen to be true since returning.
i dont know, if you are discret, but your Suspetion about the Teacher may be Right, mostly. even if there is lots of univ. Hello! Welcome to the channel. My husband is Ethiopian.
OH ! An Eritrean putting himself as an Ethiopian ... & pouring out invective and venomous words
... Princess leave them aside and don't trouble yourself to give them a proper reply
And Finally Princess well come To your Home away from Home ........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello
You have to think about your own professional development after sometime, while taking care of your own children.
Hello! I’m not 100% sure, but I’ve heard it’s 2 years.
@@werqzeleke2815 You’re kind of rude. We were already married for 9 years before we applied for the card so the waiting period did not apply to us.
By the way,I was following you for a while and o guess your skin changes may be it’s my eyes but it’s true …you look typical Ethiopian as well….
Do you really need that fan in Ethiopia? I thought the climate in highlands of Ethiopia is so moderate ?
We’re actually out of town on vacation in the US where it’s summer time. You’re correct though, the weather in Ethiopia is typically very moderate.
What is the school if I may ask? The one that use Pearson curriculum
So sorry, for our children’s safety we would prefer not to disclose the exact school publicly.
@@princesslivingfree understood! No worries thank you for the information!
@@werqzeleke2815 Nope, just not wise to tell 1000s of strangers on the internet where my kids go to school.

Do you have permanent legal residency in Ethiopia? I don’t mind sharing a hint with you if you send an email (ethiolivingfree@gmail.com).
I carry USA passport but born and raised in Addis Ababa Ethiopia , i also have resdance card i wonder that what is needed to get benefits.@werqzeleke2815
@@werqzeleke2815thank you!
Actually, it’s not true that you have to be an Ethiopian citizen. We are not citizens of Ethiopia. If the school offers a lower rate for locals, all you need is to present your Ethiopian Origin ID card (yellow card).
@@princesslivingfree Thank you.
even if they lern Amharic would be for your children defecult to understand as there Native Language. Thank you! thats the main Reason, why africans are now studing in there own language.
Good point! We will keep helping them to learn Amharic.

1. There are no numbers and no prices,
2. There is no information on a person's average income,
3. You don't introduce yourself clearly, who are you? What percentage of residents do you represent, whether it's in terms of income or living conditions,
4. You say Ethiopia,
Have you been to all of Ethiopia or just in Addis?

Sorry, the Tik Tok generation doesn't need information, just taking a picture in front of a building is enough 😂😂😂
