The United Nations, Britain, and the USA gave Eritrea as a gift to Ethiopia during the time when Ethiopia was ruled by King Haile Selassie. This caused tension as the Ethiopian government started taking away Eritrean belongings. My grandparents didn't like what they saw and tried to talk to the Ethiopian government, but they were met with disrespect. The government officials said they didn't care about us, they only cared about the land. This led to a genocide against my people, especially Muslims. In response, my grandfather joined the guerrilla fight for freedom. After 30 years of bloody war, we finally achieved our independence and overthrew the Ethiopian regime. However, the new government turned out to be corrupt and betrayed us with the help of Western powers. Because of this, we have been living separately ever since. Yeah, many people can say that we are related in many ways, and that is true. However, we have different mindsets due to the long separation after colonization. The United Nations, Britain, and the USA gave Eritrea as a gift to Ethiopia during the time when Ethiopia was ruled by King Haile Selassie. This caused tension as the Ethiopian government started taking away Eritrean belongings. My grandparents didn't like what they saw and tried to talk to the Ethiopian government, but they were met with disrespect. The government officials said they didn't care about us, they only cared about the land. This led to a genocide against my people, especially Muslims. In response, my grandfather joined the guerrilla fight for freedom. After 30 years of bloody war, we finally achieved our independence and overthrew the Ethiopian regime. However, the new government turned out to be corrupt and betrayed us with the help of Western powers. Because of this, we have been living separately ever since. I hope you understand the difference in our thinking now.
