In this episode Caroline tells me how Wilson's Disease affected her and her twin sister Marry, who sadly lost her life before being diagnosed.
Caroline was asymptomatic but when tested for Wilson's Disease she still had very high copper levels and was put on medication immediately. Some of this medication Caroline took had side effects and she tells me more about this.
This is the first Wilson's Disease chat I have done where we go into more detail about how Wilson's Disease and the medication may affect pregnancy. Caroline is very open and honest about how her pregnancy and we talked about things I had not previously thought about.
As always I really enjoyed this chat, I am privileged to get to talk to so many amazing people.

Regarding osteoporosis I think it is related to penicilamin. My doctor told me that this medication can increase the risk for it.
What a journey...so tragic and also so joyous 💕...So wonderful that Caroline started her treatment on time and has a son and daughter😊💖
The gene therapy sounds incredible...I hope it works out to be a less aggressive treatment for Wilson's Disease.
There is also some very interesting research for antirejection in liver transplant patients. Rather than taking immune suppressive medications there is research to see if injecting the transplanted liver with some of the recipients own cells...I dont remember the details but it sounds amazing 😊💖!
