if anyone is not able to find musgrave then it has been removed from blender 4.1. You can use noise texture and set it to Hetero Terrain from FBM. You will get the same result as musgrave👍👍

Fun fact: blender will automatically convert between units as long as you specify which unit you're using, so even if you're working with metric you can type 4' and it'll still work

Hi Comfee thank you for the amazing tutorials! I'm starting to learn blender after exploring Substance designer/Painter and Maya and I am actually trying to have like "moss" (or green texture) always on the top of the mesh (like a rock or something). I was thinking about using the Normal node to achieve that, do you think it would work? Please tell me your insight when you have time, thank you !
This is really exciting work and I really like your node work. I had previously done similar work with substance designer and was excited to be able to do basic work in blender.
By the way, I don't understand the reason for keeping the principle bsdf, especially after so much node work why we still have a pbr light and shadow, and we haven't made any change to the roughness.
Hey @user-jq4tz9qi7h I'm just seeing your comment! So cool you are able to do the same sorts of things in blender as you could in substance designer!
In answer to your question, yes, I wanted to blend the two different shading methods together to allow for dynamic lighting (allowing the shader to be affected by different colored lights in the scene) and so that we could have a bit of variation between softer and harsher shadows. I have made improvements since then to my methods for shading, but that was my thought process for this shader.

@realTLB Thank you! And great question! Though I haven't done it myself, it should be possible to export the texture as a PNG file from the UV editor window. There is an option to save an unwrapped texture in a different file format, given that you have unwrapped the shader from the object you wish to reapply the saved PNG image texture to.

@sina_1996 First of all, you're not dumb. It took me years to figure all this out on my own, so I'm more than happy to help you learn and understand everything I know in a fraction of the time it took me to learn.

What Blender version are you using? It's quite hard to follow in new 4.1 with the changes that they made to shader nodes. 😪
@alekpauls711 Good question, this tutorial was made with version 3.6.2. A few things have changed since that version, so I'll probably make an updated rock tutorial some time soon.
Hey im kinda new to blender and your Tutorials are really helpful and nice to follow, although i have a little Problem where the shader color changes when changing The color of my light source is there any way to fix this or do i have to use White Light sources ?

I'm so glad to hear that you are learning blender, and that my tutorials have been helpful for you :D To answer your question, I actually made this shader with the purposeful ability to react to different colored lights in the scene. If you would like to change this, to maybe have a little more control over the colors of your rocks and scene, there is an amazing tutorial by @KristofDedene that my tutorial was inspired by that can do what you are asking. Yo i'm trying to get this to bake and it simply just won't. All i get is a solid middle grey color. Is there a chance anyone is willing to help me out? Baking is a beast I don't quite understand yet
is there anyway to bake this texture and export it to unity?
How does this work after 4.1 update? The musgrave texture node has been removed from what can see
@Axeliot147 Ah yes, you can easily get the same result by substituting the musgrave for another noise texture. Just use the same and/or similar settings as you would for the musgrave and it should work just fine 👍
The musgrave texture is now built in to the noise texture. Just use a noise texture. The only thing to keep in mind is this:
Roughness = Lacunarity − Dimension
So, whatever he has for Lacunarity and Dimension on his musgrave textures are what you should put for the roughness of the noise texture.

@automaticearth I'm so glad you found this tutorial useful! I'm not sure why it might not be working in cycles, but if you're referring to the title of the video saying "EEVEE" that was just to tell people beforehand what render engine I was using.
