Dude. Wtf. No joke. I'm always impressed by how fast you can make a tutorial, but now you have made not one, but THREE good and easy to understand tutorials in less than five minutes. How is that even possible???
and you also kinda need the previous knowledge (at least the basic to intermediate one) to get a grasp of what is happening and what each thing is doing, so it isn't entirely for free
The first method actually is super simple if you've been toying in blender and making progress in a few weeks. If youve done a donut w/ sprinkles, then youve already done half the work. The shaders is where it gets a little tricky
AND the plugin is friggin 60 dollars! i mean, i'm not gonna complain or anything but, yeah to me it's not worth it and indeed would rather learn how to do myself.
@@Rogermc for begginers yeah you have to learn step by step but for pros time is everything if u wanna work in company they will give you only 3 min to make perfect grass
in 2019 i never though HEY NEXT YEAR IM GANNA WATCH A GROWN MAN IN A BATH TUB IN HIS BOXERS WEARING BLACK SUNGLASSES WEARING A HEADSET AND PEELING A POTATO WHILE TALKING ABOUT MAKING GRASS IN BLENDER
i cannot even put in words how fricken thankful i am for this "blender on crack" tutorial movement and especially ian [hubert]. my mind is constantly jumping, 10 minutes into blender guru i'll probably start doing something entirely different. i could watch through all of ian's talk at blendercon tho :D this, i can just ABSORB (which is not just because it's fast, both ian's and cg matter's are very well written, to be as concise as possible, but still entertaining.) this right here is really working with a modern attention span. and who's to say that a short attention span is worse if you can get half an hour's worth of explaining ( if you value it by what i will go do afterwards/during ) into 5 minutes but not the other way round. longer videos that go in-depth, like blender guru and gleb alexandrov, or cg geek etc, now become more entertaining to me because i can pick up more details and valuable background information (blender guru is stronk here), since i already have the whole entire thing mapped out in my head without having even touched it. i can learn blender in lunchbreak what timeline is this?? anyways, hail ton. and thank you, cg matter. this already made grass life easier.
Wow...it's been 2 years already. Just came back here to say this video is what kick-started my interest in Blender. Thanks for all you're doing CG Matter!
Depends, if you make terrains very often, this tool could probably halve your worktime If you don't do that, then don't buy it, basically cause it won't be of much use to you
Worked on my grass for 2 hours. So $30/h so same price as the add on. However I learned some great stuff. I'll take the knowledge any day. Plus I could see this only taking a few minutes after you get the basics down.
I'm actually pretty proud of myself. A month ago I would've seen the first part of the tutorial and fucking lost my shit and slowed it down to 0.25x speed. Quarantine has gotten me to a comfortable skill level in Blender and now I can see it's pretty normal stuff. Thanks for this, this was super entertaining to learn from. EDIT: holy shit this is the best way to learn. I'm tripping balls that I could follow that so easily and gather the important new information and understand it well enough to easily implement it. you are a king. EDIT 2: aw well it transitioned into the best ad ever I guess but now I have to check if you do that again in your other videos. it was fun while it lasted.
My dad was in the same room while i was listening to part three. The look on his face when he saw that I understood all of that, priceless. Dad: WTF? Was that even English? Did he even take a breath during that entire time? How can you understand all that? Frikkin' normies, lol.
Got to shading. World part when okay, when I switch to object I can only edit the ground shading, not the grass. Looks like there's just straight missing steps here. No idea how to proceed. Model looks great though, and I'm absolutely at beginner level. Edit: figured it out. Select "plane" (or grass if you had to diligence to rename it to that) in the layers viewport, then add the material and start shading.
When he's adding the material for the grass network, make sure you have the initial grass object selected not the terrain. Sounds obvious but I made that mistake so If anyone else did too, make sure to do that. :)
Hello im still new to particles, i have a question with the color of the grass. Do we select the grass object itself to give it color? because selecting the "ground" and giving it material only gives the plane itself color, not the particle... also with the "From Instances" box in Texture coordinates. I cannot replicate the effect in the video where a few patches of grass with the secondary bright yellow color, it seems to affect every grass particle object.
could not replicate the from intances...but yeah the material should be added to the grass patch and it would reflect the change in the particle system
Can't wait to use Scatter! (Sees it's at least $45) Ohh..... EDIT, 1 YEAR LATER: Jesus wept, it's $100 dollars now. I'll model my own grass, thank you.
I just wish you didn't zoom in so much on the first tutorial, many times you told us to go to some tab with no visual of where it is or what your clicking because you're so zoomed in or don't adjust it. Nevertheless it was still extremely helpful and I've managed to kinda figure out after a while of trial and error.
i put 0.25x speed and spent 2 hours making this just to see there was an easier version and also it didn’t even work because the file got corrupted and deleted
