The score is certainly wrong. Google for "Gareyev vs Zulfic chess 24". Actually 11:28 21.Rd1+ is a blunder (which should have been answered with 21.-,Kc8, not the losing mistake 21.-,Nbd7), correct is 21. Ng5. The mentioned 11:37 22.-,Qc3... would be winning, but Black did not play 22.Ng5 (he should have played one of his knights to e5, winning). Instead he played the rook back, with 22.Rc1 - which is blunder.
What a game! Creativity is the key to avoid the "death of chess" that is threatening the games between 2700+ players (maybe Rapport and Jobava excluded). Look at Timur Gareyev's chess playstyle and invite him to a tournament, please! Chess will be alive again! Thanks GingerGM for the commentary! It's impossible not to have fun and learn at the same time with you, sir!
I'm not sure who told you that chess is dying. 2700+ players have lots of draws because they play very accurate and don't blunder easily like black did in this game.
Supernova Not because of draws (2700+'s games are long fights in general) but opening theory (that's what this video is about, creativity in the opening) :) I don't like seeing the same 20 first moves game after game. I like being creative and revolutionary.
The reason you need to know theory is because if you don't keep up with it your opponent will and he will crush you the higher you get in rating. This is common sense. Also the argument that gms play strictly theory is garbage. gms try hard to get away from theory but chess has been studied to such a large extent its not easy to surprise your opponent without losing.
@ firendable, the longer this conversation goes the more evident is becoming that you are a novice. I have no issue with that but if that's the case please stop arguing about something you clearly don't understand very well.
@GingerGM is this the correct game? becuz Qc3+ after Ng5 would have been annoying and the PGNs i have seen of the game are different from what is shown as Rd1+ is not included.
Or even better than that, at 12:00 you can go QxD1 and then take the K on e5, sacking the queen for 2 pieces seems quite good here and the attack seems neutralised?
Yeah, great call!!... Taking the rook will then also un-pin the king, and you pick up the e5 knight as well. Black looks to be totally winning then. All the major tricks are gone, and he's just up to much material it seems to me.
@@tedaarks i saw that too. need to consider a queen sack to break the pin, but still not easy with nothing developed and no castling rights. Would be interesting to try out defending as black in a few different positions.
More like black allows the madness. This opponent must have been an intermediate player at best. The only impressive thing here is the fact that the gm played dozens of simult blindfold games.
Zulfic was rated 2179 FIDE at the time--so yeah, far below Gareyev's 2611 rating. (Which may be one reason Timur decided to "have fun" with the game.) But I don't think his blindfold simul is Gareyev's "only" impressive quality. He has a peak rating of 2682 (which made him the 68th best player in the world). He's a tactical wizard as Simon said, and a very gifted player.
Funny fact. He registered USCF at my home state of Kansas. Kansas chess scene isn't the best either. Which baffles me why a world class GM would just decide to make KS his stomping grounds
Lol they were on angel dust? Clearly you’ve never tried it. I was drugged by someone with that garbage, trust me you cant use it for an advantage in chess.
The Ne5 move at 11:50 is not as killer though... you didn’t analyze Qg1+, Ke2, Qxd1, Kxd1, Nxe5. Black still wouldn’t survive, but it was better than what transpired in the game.
Come on Simon, we are a respectable audience. Dont assume we know of Angel Dust and it's mind affecting effects such as hallucinations and distorted sensory experiences. Which I totally got of wikipedia...
Some people might think wow , what an amazing game. But basically this is just utter trash no point to watch these games, they have nothing to give. You throw your pawns away and hope that your opponent blunder at some point
If this is your opinion, I suggest that you follow the current World Chess championship, where Carlsen and Caruana are competing over who can produce the most sleep-inducing chess.
This game is, according to Stockfish, nowhere "trash". Yes, it is an unusual tactical position, and so errors are made, but actually all pawn sacs are "fairly healthy". Chess is not won by making the strongest moves, but by making moves that make your opponent fail.
11:10 what do you mean there are no checks that black can give? What about Qh1+? Paul Morphy taught us in the mid 1800s that piece development is most important. It's hard to believe any respectable player today would favor taking all those pawns and bringing out his queen early instead of developing his pieces.
Incorrect, gm ginger said there were no more checks. And after Qh1+ Ke2 there is Qxc1. White is left with a queen, two minor pieces and is down 3 pawns with a king wide open in the center. I don't see how white has a sure win in this line. The point is that gm ginger incorrectly stated there were no more checks.
Timur is very aestetic attack player İ love attack players sorry i dont like positionel players thats why i dont like My countries players all of them defensive player
Fedja from Australia? Course he is Simon. I guess I come from China🤔maybe you Simon come from Russia? Only kidding...we all know you come from a middle class background and no doubt vote liberal democrats.
Brilliant game! Thanks for posting Si
"Logic will bring you from point A to B, imagination will bring you everywhere."
wow thanks for that Simon, your personal coverage only adds to the craziness and awesomeness of the gareyev spirit! :-)
Wow! What a game.
11:37 22.. Qc3+ wins the game for black. He picks up the knight or the bishop. The king goes to c8 and there is no mate for white.
Firstname Lastname I think there was a transmission error as the pgns ive seen included that the rook stayed on c1.
Yup no coming back from that.
Yeah, I'm not overly impressed with the oversimplification of this game. Black clearly played poorly.
The score is certainly wrong. Google for "Gareyev vs Zulfic chess 24".

Says the patzer.
Crazy! Thank you for sharing, Simon.
GM Gareyev went native very quickly. All Australian chess games are like this.
2:27 I used to play like this when I was 5 xΔ
Awesome game!
Simon if you could post more videos of openings like the London and Black Lion, those clips were amazing!!
nice garry vs harry opening
Crazy. They must be having some mushrooms, or something.
And the one move to win was of course the discovery attack Nd6+ winning the queen.
one of your best videos
Damnit Simon...lol...that was an awesome intro! Great quotes!
I can play 48 simul blindfolded and lose them all :D
So it looks like Black didn't move a minor piece until move seventeen. Is that a record?
What was the time control?
Nice video Simon mate

I'm a fan of Timur. Reminds me of when I was first introduced to the games of Rashid Nezhmetdinov.
My favourite opening finally gets looked at, although I don't quite play it like this. Amazing game!
At 11:07 can't you go Queen H1, then queen takes rook on c1, and at least save the game, with a chance to win
Or even better than that, at 12:00 you can go QxD1 and then take the K on e5, sacking the queen for 2 pieces seems quite good here and the attack seems neutralised?

Maybe not winning so easy. Still has a way to develop his rook & bishop, and hold on to the pawns, but I would think it's drawing at worse.
@@tedaarks i saw that too. need to consider a queen sack to break the pin, but still not easy with nothing developed and no castling rights. Would be interesting to try out defending as black in a few different positions.
Did Timur play all this by calculating precisely, or did he just want to put it up Zulfic's?
7:21 Nd6+
you are my favorite grandmaster
7:21: d6+, winning the queen, isn't it ?
yes Nd6+
What are those fellas eating
Really an entertaining game!
Hell is a place with no reason, but judging by this game, interesting chess games.
Chess and Animal Collective, winning combo
Was just about to post asking if that was an Animal Collective background?!
What a game
Unreal!
Thanks Simon! for the next GM analysis, Carlsen vs Svidler Biel 2018 !! :)
It works because Black joins the madness.
More like black allows the madness. This opponent must have been an intermediate player at best. The only impressive thing here is the fact that the gm played dozens of simult blindfold games.

This is HUGE
At 139 d3 not Be2
We love you Ginger man :)
The GingerGM is keeping his promise, boys.
Who cares?! I like Chess Brahs and GingerGM. I prefer GingerGM because he's funny and I learn a lot from him.
I'm just a beginner, but even I found this weird. Great game
5:03 I'd say: no offense to the 8 year olds
Nd6 i think
Funny fact. He registered USCF at my home state of Kansas. Kansas chess scene isn't the best either. Which baffles me why a world class GM would just decide to make KS his stomping grounds
clearly I am a mad man trying to keep myself sane.
only 3 mins and i cant stop laughing, crazy opening!
If people wanna win in chess, they should play like Magnus.
If people wanna have a bit of fun, they should play like these guys!
7:17 Nd6+ wins Black's Queen
Simon, his rating is comparable to yours which brings up the question, can all similarly-rated GMs play blindfolded?
Merriweather post pavilion!
Gareev avg. centipawn loss in this game 120. That means vs Carlsen and playing like this he will be down a queen in 5 moves.
This is crazy.... 😂
Magnifique ! Something as some god playing chess...
Lol they were on angel dust? Clearly you’ve never tried it. I was drugged by someone with that garbage, trust me you cant use it for an advantage in chess.
you can do it!
‘Drugged by someone’ Wtf?
Excalibur Yeah it was pretty messed up. They tried to get me alone after but I could tell something was wrong before it kicked in.
Man I love this game.
1. g4 = Mullet Attack 😊
“There’s no checks for black” well there’s Qh1
The Ne5 move at 11:50 is not as killer though... you didn’t analyze Qg1+, Ke2, Qxd1, Kxd1, Nxe5. Black still wouldn’t survive, but it was better than what transpired in the game.

Nd6+ ;)
Nd6
Rxd7
One stupid game... STUPID STUPID STUPID. (Wish if Magnus plays like this in biel chess)
İ think Timur is unic but his opponent can be better he shouldnt take that pawns and should start development
GingerGM Pronounce Name like [fediʌ] not [fedzha].
How the hell does agadmator have nearly 200,000 more subscribers than simon??

Lets say you're not an aggressive player
@@sormu16 If your mentality playing chess is hoping for the other player to blunder then no wonder you're still 1200 rated

That accomplishes absolutely nothing. After the check and king moves e2 the result remains the same after Qxh2
