@joshua201070 Good onya from Australia .. Field hockey is actually very friendly, a fast game, needing extreme fitness, and is a very international game. Not many games are as widely distributed, Soccer is widest played; but hockey less prone to faking penalties = more truthful outcome. While Australia has 'tyranny of distance' in Southern hemisphere (e.g. can't interact like Europe) we are still current Kings of field game. Great players need great opponents. : -) keep smiling. Amen 2.
(field) HOCKEY came waaaayyy (like two thousand years) before the game on ice, more than triple the amount of countries play field hockey than ice hockey... doesnt that make (field) hockey the REAL hockey???
@lampliter25 Yes, you can say ice hockey is much faster. The rink is smaller and they are skating on ice... but more fluid? I disagree on that. Much of the time I watch ice hockey they are just body checking each other, getting the puck, going to the other half, missing the net, than the other team turns over etc.
LOL Canada;s population is about the same as Netherlands and Australia combined. Just in case you were doubting the 78,000 the 2013 NHL Winter Classic will host 120,000+ fans for one game, something that would be impossible for field hockey.
Phahahaaa, Cricket is a Sport played across the world, Serisoly Need To Watch some Televison:s, and basketball wouldnt ever be in the top ten in the world, coz only americans really play it:P. Thank You'Very Much
Hockey has 6 traditional powers: Czech Republic, Russia, Canada, USA, Finland and Sweden. Germany, Norway, Denmark, Slovakia can all spring surprises against the top teams. That is 10 teams for you. Canada was ranked top 10 in field hockey at one point and lost 6-0 to the Netherlands ans probably will never beat them. So again you are wrong.
Hate to burst your bubble, but (field) hockey is the third most popular team sport in the world after soccer/football and cricket. Ice hockey doesn't even make the top 10.
Australia are jet hockey players and make jet hockey players ( like myself and othr people) , so noone has the right to put Australia down and btw, Australia is on top!!!
Fact field hockey uses 1 side of the stick fact use skill to beat players fact has more stamina has had More Olympic gold medalist than ice hockey fact when a team wins their national championships they don't call themselves world champions like the USA do in EVERY sport
Not a very strong argument as you seem to be unaware that hockey (or "field hockey" as people in countries with cold winters like to call it) is also played in India, Pakistan and China. Back before global terrorism made such events impossible you'd get crowds of 140k to 150k to Champions Trophy pool matches in South Asia. How does Canada's population compare to that?
What's cricket? lol your facts make no sense. I say basketball is the second most popular sport. Off course hockey isn't in the top 10 because its not played in a lot of countries, but did manage to attract an audience of 78,000 to a game in 2010 for the World Championships, which is more then the combined total for the field hockey world cup in the same year.
I dont like this sport. I dont really like ice hokey too, but i think thats a bit better. But if i had to choose what to play, i would choose this hockey.
I love both (field) hockey and ice hockey, I play (field) hockey.

Its pretty evident that hockey has a larger global reach then field hockey has.
Hockey has 6 traditional powers: Czech Republic, Russia, Canada, USA, Finland and Sweden. Germany, Norway, Denmark, Slovakia can all spring surprises against the top teams. That is 10 teams for you.
