I have a Mk2 Focus. I noticed the other day that my coolant level was way below the minimum line. After a top up it seems to be okay. Not sure why it had dropped so suddenly, possibly because we had a warmer week in England for once 😂
Hey Ben i find your videos very helpful, i have a 2011/12 focus LW and my coolant has gone below the minimum 3 times now, i have topped it up with water each time. But i cant see any visible leaks anywhere? Its not overheating and there's no signs of a blown head gasket etc, the oil doesnt look milky and its not blowing white smoke from the exhaust. Is there anything else you suggest i check? I have checked eveywhere for visible leaks, ive also taken the car to the mechanic and they told me it was an air lock the first time, then i took it back because it persisted and they told me it was the radiator cap so they replaced that, and now its still happening do i dont know what else it could be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
2:03 so follow that line to where it’s connected to the other side of the engine and the radiator. How do I ask for that line at the auto store on the side that connects to the engine broke off and I’ve been to different auto shops looking for the parts of can’t find it I would appreciate a name or linkfor purchase
@@eddieaa5925 they should have it at the dealer. When getting one, I'd call it the plastic line that goes from the degas bottle to the radiator and coolant outlet. Parts department knows exactly what you're talking about.
how do you repair if the coolant is leaking from the coolant outlet? My focus overheated and after inspection and refilling with coolant you could hear a bubbling sound coming from the coolant outlet you mentioned. is this an easy fix?
The outlet above the transmission? Id buy a new one at the dealer. It should come with the gasket and coolant temp sensor built on it. It's held on with 4 bolts, and has several hoses attached to it. Make sure to bleed the air out after. I would use a spill free funnel to fill as it helps bleed
Okay so am I basically just relegated to having to replace this every like 3 months? I've gone through three at this point and I'm about to go exchange for another. Leaks are happening in the exact same place you showed.
If the leak is a black tar like liquid its not the coolant but the motor mount itself, common mistake with these people make is thinking the coolant is stained by the dripping on the mount aince the mounts are eurethane with a liquid core.
Any ideas on how to prevent cracks after replacement? Anything you might attach to the bottom of the new tank after installation? I would hate to go out of my way to replace it a second time.
Well, I’m that “one time” for the coolant outlet🤣 I bought a different car because originally it looked like a cracked head. (There was a black line near the plug that screws in) but it must have been stained oil, as I wiped it off, poured coolant in reservoir. And lo and behold- 99.9% sure it’s coming from the coolant outlet. So now I am contemplating on fixing it, and then selling it.
Just got a 2005 ford focus, my first car. A great deal 250$ 60,000 miles. And I’ve been fixing issues as they come. I filled it with coolant because it seemed low and it had all dripped out by the time I got back. I don’t think it’s the tank itself but I suppose I could look again. It’s dripping out of the bottom of the car so I had assumed there’s some line or something that it would be hard to get to. Should I take it in and spend what I spent on the car in the first place or try to figure it out myself.
@@Tylorgng. yea man. I was surprised too. I wasn’t asking too many questions but I think the lady who owned it was getting too old to drive it and it was parked in a property that was changing ownership so she was going to have to get it to Market which she thought would be stressful. I would not have gotten a car anytime soon if it wasn’t for her.
@@Tylorgng. thanks, yea i want to stay on top of maintenance as much as I can. The coolant is leaking now so until I fix or get it fixed im not driving it. Other than that, solid little car.
Dumb question why is the coolant green mine is like pink. Jist got this used shit box i had to rebuild transmission and now i am still having issues it just doesn't stop with this vehicle
The original coolant is orange, which may look pink possibly with age and/or discoloration of the degas bottle. The updated design coolant is green. Part number VC13G
Please buy motorcraft degas bottles only! I've seen aftermarket ones leak a lot from the connections for the small hoses.
Where is a good place to purchase the OEM bottle?

I have the same problem with my focus with the coolant tank leaking underneath. And my engine light is on, would it be caused by that?
Possibly, if it's a cylinder head overtemp code

@@MegaJURISTE yes. It is an easy fix. Just tedious with trying to get the bolts out and not dropping them into the engine bay.

I replaced this container but the leak still there. It’s leaking very slowly, little by little. What can it be?

The bottom of my radiator is leaking from the tiny holes bottom of the radiator is it waterpump or radiator
sounds like the radiator
I have a 2018 Ford I have a leak and it's on the I can't seem to figure can you help me
Sure can you give me more info

By design it'll fail again, but not for years. You should get 100k miles out of a new oem one

My garage cant find a leak despite checking 3 times..Im topping it up every week. What do u think this suggests?
If they tried pressure testing, then all I can do is list common leak points. Thermostat housing, heater hoses, degas, water pump, water outlet

Gasket i meant
@richat1691 if it has the original degas bottle I'd replace that as a start with a new oem bottle
