- In this series I will show you a modified version of the US issue LC-2 LBE (load bearing equipment). This system is specifically setup as a 72 hour survival kit to be used as is without the addition of a backpack. This system is designed to be survival / evasion type gear, NOT a traditional tactical type system. This kit is more of a bare bones kit mainly consisting of essentials to support one person for 1 to 3 days on the move. It is designed to be a lightweight, mobile, and adaptable solution to carrying essential gear in the field. This system is also a perfect setup for day hiking. Video 2 of 3.
This is a good idea. Just slip a pair of wool socks on over the thinner socks for cushion and wicking.
I have never tried this method before so I can't say, but you would definitely need to be careful not to over tighten the laces as to not restrict good circulation. Also, changing socks is important because the moisture that builds up from sweat can cause additional problems. I guess the best idea is to break your boots in prior to going out in them. That will ensure a proper fit and form. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like good gear to have. I use my issue poncho and paracord to create my shelter. Hey, just an idea, use some ranger bands to attach your knife to the suspender in it's regular sheath. You can buy them or make them. I have this done on my tactical setup. My knife is on my left shoulder inverted as you say, for easy access. (USMC Ka-Bar). I hope to post a short video on this soon.
Thanks, I appreciate that and your support. Take Care.
Your right, I thought to mention that too but didn't. I do have a signal mirror in that compact kit if I need it, but the box is a great back up. It could also double as a backup mess tin.
Thanks for the support!
I would recommend replacing the thread with a nice, big spool of dental floss. Great thread and you can use for cleaning your teeth as well. I would also recommend an Inuit Thimble. They can be made from cardboard but I think a purpose built one from thick leather would be better and allow you to push your needles through the tough material of your equipment easier.
That's true, something to keep an eye on...
liking the kit so far. Some very good implementation on very lightweight range of items.
I am not sure. I cannot remember where I got my copy. I have had it for quite some time. I believe you can download it from the internet and print it for free. Also, any army surplus store in your area should definitely carry it. Good luck!
Great video-thanks for the ideas on the belt kit.
Saw part II ... Water issue was addressed, haha sorry. I think even with the collapsible 1 or 1.5 quart bottle you talked about you would have enough water to holdout until the next supply. I'd just be careful about relying on wilderness water sources; creeks dry up, etc etc. Great pack though, I'd feel 100% comfortable using it
Thank You!
This might sound crazy but I put a brown tarp in my buttpack, mosquito net couple tough paperclips (ones that hold a bunch of papers together) and paracord in my buttpack to make a pup tent. I am currently looking for the MOLLE style knife holder that I can put on the left suspender where you have your compass. It is great to have that knife real close and off the hip. Great vids as always!
no way man, i always bring rice/pasta and tuna steaks like what you have when im hiking. those rice packs are meant to be as side dish for multiple people. you can divide those rice packs will do two separate meals fine.very smart idea, even if you wanted to devide it up into smaller ziplocks you can avoid the extra air pocket the package provides
Hey Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Thanks, let me know if you think of it, I'll try them. Take Care.
Thanks for sharing!
Have you thought about increasing your water supply? Maybe adding another 1 qt canteen or a collapsible water container of some sort? For a 72 hour system water is going to be more of an issue that food will be. Just a thought, solid kit so far! On to video 3 ....
Great videos PackRat. Hint on blister prevention. Try nylon stockings made of the same material as women's panty hose. It forms tight to your feet and prevents your socks from rubbing on your skin. I know it doesn't sound manly but it sure saves a lot of painful blisters for long marches. An old Drill Sergent ready for retirement gave me the tip. Wish I would have know it b/4 my 17K march.
Be careful on what you eat. You need a lot of water to process power bar/ cliff bar type food. When moving quickly you also will burn twice the amount of calories. good video
Wow did not notice the poncho on there lol
i to have the wisp brushes and you dont not need to add water it even says it on the back so that is a plus
@PackRat556 i dont know how people cant stand mre's i personally like them they are quick to make and good
fantastic pack. wouldnt trust the 5 hour energy.. that stuff can send you to the hospital.
Thank you for your interest, and the great rating! I am glad that there are others like yourself out there who share my interests! Take Care!
@PackRat556 SERE...(Survival Evasion Resistance Escape) sorry had to make correction...
Great stuff. I was wondering if you would think it a good idea to laminate your military survival manual, so you could read it in the rain? Also the map? If it is a bad idea in your opinion, please let me know why. Ty. 5/5. ~Kev~
hey I dont know if you know this or not but 5 hr enegery takes a lot of water from your body and will dehydrate you really really fast!!
This series is great!!
ED
"Tongue Suppressor" I need one of those for my wife!
You could. I used to use MRE's all the time but I have lost my taste for them somewhat and they are not as readily available. They have also become very expensive as well about $8.00 per meal when I can find them in my area. This is an alternative that is much cheaper and is readily available from my local grocery store. I would recommend for people to use what they feel the most comfortable with, as both are good options. Thank you for watching and sharing this!
He covers water in the 3rd video. He has enough to get him thru first day, which will enable him enough time to find water and filter and purify it using other equipment in his gear. There no reason why both water and food needs cannot be covered in a 72 hr pack.
damn straight i exercise that right with loving passion
what the name of the manuail again? I did not catch it. thanks'great vid
@PackRat556 the marine corps has an updated, better version of that book, i carry them both, but definitely like the newer one better.
MRE's are heavy, bulky, and expensive.
for a BOB Food is really your last priority, some quick energy is all you need.
Yes, but these are chocolate, they are not as good as the oatmeal raisin walnut! Have you tried the Snickers Marathon Bars? Their good to me.
It's not a matter of weather you like guns. It's just another piece of necessary equipment like your water filter or first aid kit. I don't look forward to having to sterilize a wound and patch it up but if I need it I'll carry it. besides in a disaster and you were carrying all that necessary gear all the unprepared people around you would want you to share it with them. As they say "Lack of Preparation on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part.
You have room to tape a utility razor to the lid of your tin.
GREAT VIDEO MY FRIEND. WELL ORGANIZED. GREAT PRESENTATION. THANK YOU.
i am glad to see someone else have a web gear as part of a bug out bag . i keep everything i need to make it my bag is for extras
How does the LC2 hook to your gear? Molle or Alice Clip?
Thanks
Its a good idea to tape up all your clips ie the one's that attach your butt-pack to your suspenders as they tend to pop open during fire and maneuver.
3:46 I would camo that so that is dosent shine that much
Good video very nice compact kit I really like the lbe as a part of a bob thanks for sharing always learning
So awesomme to see such a thorough prepper! :D In fact, i have so much in common with this Patriot, i think he might be me from the future! o.~ i'm also obsessive compulsive, and see antibacterial means as a necessity, even in my edc stuff! It's also totally logical (yet quite rare in survival videos) to see someone pack a local map. i also got the same sere manual, which is in a waterproof ammo can in my G.O.O.D. bag - it is uber informative for only $5.
is it nessesary? its our god given right as americans to own one!
i see you have shit load of food, but do you have a spoon ???
I was able to buy a box of 6 on amazon for 40 bucks
I call this american idiocy surrvival pack. Do you carry a lap top?
U forgot ur mini gun
top ramen just add water no cooking required ..has lotsa fat calories
I would look into substituting a lot of that food for daytrex or mainstay emergency rations. May not be as good food wise but IMO better for an "oh shit I have to keep myself alive" pack suck as this.
if that rice is not cooked your going to need ALOT of wasted water and the 5 hour energy NO just NO im not going to give a speach
Too much food. You don't need food in 72 hrs you need water
Where do you store the Flesh Light?
