    Use your sewing machine to create beautiful wefts from bulk hair. Doc will show you step by step how to create wefts with a single, double, or triple needle.
    Products used:
    Doctored Locks Professional ShapeShifter Monofiber
    www.doctoredlocks.com/product/...
    Steps:
    1. Set up the sewing machine.
    Single Needle or Double needle- Set stitch to zig zag. Stitch tension between 8 and 9. Stitch width set at 2. Stitch length set at .5. Triple Needle- Set stitch to straight. Tension set between 7 and 9. Stitch width won't matter. Stitch length set at .5.
    2. Thread the machine. Use extra bobbins if you are using a double or triple needle.
    3. Place masking tape sticky side up, with the sides folded under to hold it to the work surface. Place 2 strips parallel with an inch gap.
    4. Spread the bulk hair across the tape evenly.
    5. Saturate the hair with hairspray.
    6. Allow hair to dry and then apply a second layer of tape over the first.
    7. Cut off the excess edges of the tape.
    8. Load the hair into the sewing machine and sew in the gap between the tape.
    9. Flip the hair, and do another pass right above the previous stitch.
    10. Repeat 4 more times with a single needle, once more with a double, and you are done with a triple needle.
    11. Place the cardstock in between the pieces of tape.
    12. Use a flat Iron or a regular iron to crease the top into a fold.
    13. Load back into the machine and create the top stitch.
    14. Remove the masking tape.
    15. Apply nail glue to the ends of the weft to ensure they will not unravel.
    16. Allow to dry and then cut away the tails.
    17. Install.

    Honestly, this is the best video I've seen about hair extensions. I'm so tired of spending hundreds of dollars on low quality hair. Now I can make it EXACTLY how I want them. Thanks for this amazing video.

    OMG lady you are amazing! Can not thank you enough for this. I searched online for a vid like this about a year ago...and nothing. So glad i found you.
    I am re-jigging an old full lace wig and needed a way to weft the hair I cut out, so i can put it back into the wig....thanks so much

    AMAZING, I searched high and low on how to do this before I came across your video, it's the best source of information anywhere online, seriously! I recently cut over 20" off my hair and have days I miss it - luckily I kept the hair, so I am going to try it! Weird coincidence, I live in the same city where it says your shop is located, must have been fate ;) thank you so much!!

    peaked my curiosity. my daughter is interested in extentions, and got to love you tube.a thought, you're the more experienced with this method, but i do know sewing.instead of regular masking tape, there are blue or green painter's tape that leave less residue... an option.then with sewing, there are embroidery stabilzers ( water soluble, tear aways, etc....) that would help when sewing so that the thread wouldn't bunch/knot up. then also with sewing... if you started, say at least 1/2" in from the cut edge in a reverse stitch back to the cut edge... it won't bunch up as much and then when go forward, one could then hand knot the thread tails to be more secure, and they wouldn't be at the most outer edge. another thought, with quilting... when you first start, it's at zero stitch length.... do a few stitches at zero to lock the stich in place....then when you fold the hair over to stich in place, i would maybe start again before the cut/outer edge, go back, then forward, but using a double stich (not a double needle).

    wow, I wish I would have found this years ago when I shaved my sides, I would have made myself extentions out of my own hair. Awesome video. glad I found you recently, better late than never. Gave me a good idea.

    I have long thick hair, down to small of my back, and I am really thinking about cutting it short due to how heavy/hot it is and headaches. I am glad I came across your video, as I plan to make wefts out of my own hair for those times that I really miss it being long. Thank you.

  • @doctoredlocks

    Yep, these wefts hold pretty darn well. Fray check works, but if you want to super secure it, use a liquid nail adhesive. It will make your wefts stiffer than fray check, but I use nail glue on manufactured and my sewn wefts just to eliminate any shedding all together.

    Thank you so much for this informative video. Virgin hair can be quite expensive, and I hate to waste anything so I am always looking for creative ways to get more for less. I had purchased 22" premade wefts thinking I wanted hair that long, but I found myself cutting the length into a 10" layered hair cut. I've wondered what I could do with the remaining hair I'd cut as I could never just throw it away. After I watched your video, I made new wefts with the remaining length for a future custom hair piece, and I am so thankful to you for helping me achieve this with your very informative video. By the way, I sealed both sides of each weft after I sewed them with Weft Sealer purchased at Sally Beauty Supply in lieu of nail glue, and there has been no shedding of the wefts whatsoever. Thank you again!

    So I have came across this video and this helped me out a lot with making my own hair wefts. Although, using masking tape is a giant pain in the rear whenever you're trying to have them hold the strands in place. As for sewing the wefts themselves, I was told to use a soluble embroidery stabilizer and it worked pretty well for me.

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  6 років тому +1

      Aim for right on top of each other. If you want them flatter, make sure you get a really good kink with the heat when you fold the top too. :)

    This is a really useful tutorial! Thank you for making and post it.I have some hair that I wore as woven in hair extensions when I was growing my hair out. I've held onto it and was wondering how I might be able to reuse it. Now I have a way. Some of the pieces of hair are shorter and I'm wondering if the turnover edge needs to be 2 inches as you have shown of if it can be shortened to about an inch?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  3 роки тому

    love this video! I have a question about step 13... after you ironed a crease, where did you sew for the top stitch? right over of the weav? or above it?

  • @stephanies.627
    @stephanies.627 8 років тому +1

    This is just what I was looking for. I have quite a lot of link-type extensions that I no longer have in, but would love to create removable ones for different hairstyles when I'm on the mood. I have two questions about the process, though. After you have ironed the fold, does the top stitch go directly on top of the other stitching? And, do you then trim off the couple of inches of shorter hair that is now heading in the opposite direction? I just want to make sure I understand this before getting started. Thank you so much!

    I had some synthetic bulk hair so I tried this out on it to practice. I did not use heat to make the crease and it still worked wonderfully thank you so much for sharing. I did use of a piece of paper as the backing as you shared in another video just to keep the hair from getting caught in my feed. I was really amazed at how fast and easy this is to do. Really opens up possibilities for my clients and for me to make a little extra money making these for someone.

    Do they shed much? My hand bound ones don't at all I was just wondering if I could make it faster and easier but with the same quality.

    If I want to make some of my own hair I have from a couple years ago into a clip-on extension, would it be best to add some sort of fabric/ribbon when I fold it so I can then sew it onto clips? This is an awesome tut, thanks!

      I was thinking of doing the same thing and if I end up doing it I would add something like that in. Let me know if you tried it please!

    Great video! I have the same question as PrincessSara. Do you cut off the extra 2 inches of hair that was folded back to prepare for top-stitching? Everything I've read says that using human hair with the cuticle running in the wrong direction will cause a big mess! Thanks for your help.

    I've decided to thicken a wig. Would you be able to demonstrate how to install or sew it on a wig?
