By far the best carb cleaning video I've seen. Very helpful. You should stress how soft brass is and to use the right size slotted screw driver when loosening the jets, otherwise you'll chip the slotted ends. Great stuff! Thanks so much for posting!
Impressive video, straightforward and incredibly easy to learn. I'd like to point a suggestion for CV carburators; clean the diaphragm and moisten on a bit of liquid vaseline. That should prevent dryness and breaking of the diaphragm on a long term basis. Cheers
I have a very puzzling problem with my bike. Only 16 000 km, bought new, always state of the art tuned and maintained . I drive it with care and never push it to its limits. I'm the only driver and noboby else has access to that bike. That bike always give a great service and satisfaction until 2 weeks ago, as I noticed that the engine oil was low. I always used Motul 4w40 Synthetic oil. So I filled up back until the oil level was full and went back on the road. After only 65 km, I checked back the engine oil level and the oil level had dropped to the half. Thinking the oil filter could be in trouble and making the engine oil pressure to open the oil pressure relief valve causing oil to be burned, I changed the oil and the oil filter. I filled back the engine with the requested 4.6 L of Motul 4w40 Synthetic. One hour later in the garage, while the engine did'nt run, at my surprise, the oil level was less than the milldle of the oil stick. I filled up back, adding 1 more liter of oil. I runned the engine for a couple of minuts to be sure that the new OEM oil filter would be full. Then I went home to sleep. The next morning, I went to the garage and once again the engine oil level was a bit over the minimum. I added again oil. Now I filled up my bike with a total of 6 liters of engine oil even the user manuel and the service manual say that it takes not more that 5.1 Liters when the engine is completly dry. That bike don't leak, never leaked and doesn't smokes when I drove it for testing in order to discover why that engine oils is disappearing. Where that oil can go into the engine, if it is not burned, it doesn't go on the ground ? Does somebody from you have a clue to help me. Thank you very much. It's a 2013 Nomad 1700 cc. I would appreciate any idea that could help solve this puzzling mechanical situation.
Very informative, thank you! I am new to anything with motors and my 2-stroke 1976 Simson S50 has trouble starting (have to push start), and often dies when idling at a light, do you think that cleaning the carburetor would be helpful? I assume I may need to adjust the idle regarding the dying when stopped at lights?
That was extremely informative, thank you. I am planning on cleaning my 1980 Kawasaki KZ250 Carb, since it hasn't been running right. Any big differences between the carb in the video and the one I'll be working with on my bike? Thanks.
depends which way you flip it to turn it on, it doesnt really matter. i find it easier to install it in the ON position. with the level fliped down, and just install it with the lever on the lowest selection :)
WOW ,excellent video tutorial...All process fully detailed with extra info about everything a carb is consisted of...Remarkable pal, also loved your equipment,ultra-sonic etc... Would be really awesome to upload some tuto's on who to change brakes fluid and stuff like that... P.S Subscriptioned ;-)
Also, please recommend an affordable air compressor that will get the job done, and still be nice to have. Probably won't use it for anything other than small tasks as I can't afford all the hoses and fittings. Thanks again.
I enjoy watching this with a better understanding of the carb. My question, is it the same with a 1986 Honda Goldwing 1200a I never worked on a carb and have a problem with mine.....it try's to run then dies and a gas leakage on the top right side (overflow) I think? 26014 miles...., Can you help? Thx.
I bought a 02 Yamaha TTR125 that hasn't been started in years. Carb was pretty nasty. I cleaned it though I just used spray carb cleaner and didn't come off looking as nice as yours did. Got the bike to run by push starting it, but it will only stay running if it is choked. If choke is disengaged it dies. Didn't use compressed air as you did. I also used a screwdriver to scrape stubborn crap out of the bowl...maybe a bad idea. Thoughts?
hi. i just got a kinroad runmaster an the carburator had been changed out. an now tryin to find one for it. was wondering if u knew where to find a carb for that paticular bike. it's on their web page. the yellow bike. it's got that 19 on the end and just so that u know. and needing to rebuld this one also an ur video was very helpful. thank u
Thanks for the great video! How big of an ultrasonic cleaner would you recommend I get? Also, if you could recommend where I could get one for an affordable price? It'll be just for me. Would a used one be ok? If so, where do you recommend I look? Thanks again!
Hola from Spain: What is it that you are using to blow air through the pipes it looks like rubber attached to the compressor pipe, is that home-made? Thanks
Thanks, but green degreaser doesn't register as something i know. Is that it's colour or eco friendliness? Powder, fluid, or gel type? Brand name(s)? Does a grocery, hardware, automotive, or all the above store(s) sell it? It's back to the books for me, to learn more. KLX250S' plug was getting no gas. Cleaned carburetor. It started instantly, idles perfectly, stalls instantly when it gets more gas. ...last fall it worked perfectly. Cheers.
yeh it did it even in idle originally then after adjusting my carb it ran fine then the next day it wouldnt get over 6000 revs in first gear and the engine just slowly dies to a complete stop i am guessing after cleaning the carb fully and adjusting it abit more it might fix the problem
@smallengineshop what kind of cemical did you used in soaking the carv parts bro? i dont think we have that kind of chemical in the philippines, is there any chemical other than what you used? for example like thinner? the thinner i am saying is, the chemical use to combined paint, in spraying paint car? is that ok? or not bro? thnx u
Bought a bike with cv's,that had flooding issues.Found the diaphragm wasnt seated correctly.Cleaned the floats etc...now the bikes stalls on throttle.the idle air has been the only thing adjusted.i also have to cover the airbox to force a start.any suggestions?
i have only just bought a honda cbr 125 and very recently everytime i go into 3rd gear it wont get past 6000 revs then the engine just slowly cuts out could that mean my carb need adjusting ? it was working fine a couple of days ago though
oh god if i only saw this a week ago i had to pay a professional 6 dollars to clean it my ass i could do it on my awn now thanks to this dude you rock anyway i have a banggo scooter anyone know it it's form italy
Hey in my pilot jet i cant see any light through it lengthwise, so i tried blowing it out with compressed air and still nothing. So i stuck a piece of wire in there and its something stuck in there so hard i cant even move it. is this right? If not, is there any way of fixing it? Fuel has sat in there for maybe a year, as the person i bought it off had forgotten about it. Thanks
Dear sir, my 125cc bike shows some kind of power loss while accelerating especially when overtaking and i need to give more acceleration at normal speed too. Earlier it was so smooth and mileage was more than now... could you tell me what may be the problem is... or just give me some maintenance recommentation...thank you...... i m asking you beacause, i explained this problem to my mechanic ,he ride the bike but didnt understand what the problem is...
I cleaned my carb but now there's no gas going to the engine from the carb . but the carb is getting gas very good. . if I take the gas line off of the carb and blow compressed air into the inlet where the gas line was attached to the carb . and then try to start the motor . then it'll start and run for a second or two then quit . what might my problem be ? thanks
what does the 1993 ninja zx6e models have are they slides or the other ones we cleaned mine last year but NEVER SEPERATED THEM just pulled the bowls cleaned them and the were rusty looking and cleaned the needles and floats ran awesome for about a year.....then all the sudden no power under load could that quite possibly be because we never seperated the carbs in the first place and what ever might have been in them jets as you shown when you seperated them with the slides could have gotten worse over the year with varish? I did keep it full and did run it even in the cold in winter last year maybe just idle too op temp and then shut it down but just too keep the rings lubed, and gas flowing. So just curious on them couple of items, I am going too have them professionally cleaned over the winter but just as a basis is the reason why I was asking.....thanks for anything you can offer in advance... Jeremiah
also whats the rule of thumb on cleaning should it be done once a year regardless? Im just curious im still a little new too the maitence part (sorry on the spelling)
What does it mean when gas comes out of the vacuum lines where the air filter goes I cleaned the jets made sure all the holes where clear it's every time I go to kick it over it spits gas out from the lines thank u for any help
Usually means your carburetor is allowing to much fuel into the carburetor. Check the carburetor float, float needle and float seat, and make sure those parts are in good condition. Than check the float height and adjust if necessary.
***** it start now at full throttle but when I let it go it is cuts off where I put the air filter at its holes gas is coming from there sometime shoots out like if it was jet
Make sure the carburetor is clean. Get a strong carburetor cleaner and dunk the metal carb parts into the cleaner for how ever long the instructions recommend. You can get a gallon can of carb cleaner with a dunk basket at Autozone. Don't get the cleaner on plastic parts and follow the instructions on the can. Rinse everything off when your done with water and use compressed air to make sure all passages are clean and unblocked. Be careful not to get the carb cleaner on your skin or in your eyes.
what if you start your scooter (1984 honda spree) it starts fine and idles normal for about 3 seconds then starts to go up,up,up way too fast? cant get normal idle. I broke down whole carb and cleaned everything.. what else can I do?
Will someone please help me with my carb on a 400ex i put a vid up named 400ex revving up issue. It revs itself up in steps since the vid i got it to stop doing that but now it kinda surges and cuts in and out at low rpm
A good mechanic would take pictures of a part before disassembling it or draw diagrams if needed. A digital camera would be most useful for this task. Then have a box of zip-lock bags for parts. If there are more than one section within that part like a multi-carb setup, the best thing is to keep each and every part that comes out of each carburetor separate from each other and label each container or zip-lock bag accordingly. This is a must-do especially if you are not going to be able to re-assemble the part within the same day. Things can become very confusing the next day....
Pay particular attention to how the float-needle comes off of the float-bowl assembly. If you put it back together wrong, the bike will not get fuel, and will not run - no fun.
Good Video, but you should have told people how to measure the screw adjustments. You simply say record their position but you don't tell them how to record it. measure when putting it back after cleaning. Say it took 3 and 1/4 turns to seat the screw, when you put the screw back in you seat it and then back it our 3 and 1/4 turns. this will put it back where it was before you intially disturbed it.
What does it mean when gas comes out of the vacuum lines where the air filter goes I cleaned the jets made sure all the holes where clear it's every time I go to kick it over it spits gas out from the lines thank u for any help
Before you take the Air Needle out, you need to rotate and calculate how many turns to see what it is set at. Generally, most Small gas Engines are around 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 Turns. That's from closed position

One of the better videos I have watched. Will definitely save it for when I pull my carb off. Thank you.
... not a Question, but a note of THANKS for showing us in detail the generals of Cleaning a Carburetor... Good Job !
Thanks for watching!
Nobody forced you to watch, as for me it helped me alot! :)

Nice one.... !!! now my 1986 Yamaha 100 cc will breath fire again...! thanks for the video.
Excellent video and very much appreciated as I HATE working on carbs. Definitely have the video bookmarked for future reference.

Good vid. Now I am off to take my Honda's carb to pieces!! Wish me luck!

I enjoy watching this with a better understanding of the carb. Nice video, will help me with my carbs off my 1980 cb650. Do you have a trick for winding up the throttle return spring on carbs?
Thanks. Not sure what you mean by "winding up." I just compress and hold the spring with my hand.
this was great. thanks. btw... what is the brand and model of the ultra sonic clearner? i need one and want to buy it if you reccomend. thanks dude.
woooooooowwwww I would have messed up my bike if not for this video. THANK YOU :)
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for that very thourough explanation!!!

hi, what is the solution that you used in the Ultra sonic cleaner ? Could you name a few that can be used for cleaning carbs ?
i'm disappointed u didn't say what fluid is in your ultrasonic cleaner.
yeh it did it even in idle originally then after adjusting my carb it ran fine then the next day it wouldnt get over 6000 revs in first gear and the engine just slowly dies to a complete stop i am guessing after cleaning the carb fully and adjusting it abit more it might fix the problem

where can i buy one of those ultrasound ? what did you use to mix the water with to clean the carb?
How do you rinse the carburetor after you clean it? Just water?
Also, do I NEED an air compressor like that or is there another way?
excellent video, thanks for doing it.
the bent hose, what does it connect to on the motorcycle? if it connects to anything...
