Well lookey here! Glad you appreciate this one of a kind time in Drum Corps history. I think only the Bluecoats in the past 10 years have come close to the vibe these guys had. It was so special. I was Bluecoats snare 92. Cheers!
Thank you for bringing attention to one of my favorite lines of all time!!! As a member from 94 and 95, I would like to mention, the technique is still derived from turning the wrists. The arm movement is only residual. A result of allowing your hands and thus arms, to react to the natural rebound. By no means can I play even remotely as good as that now, let alone back in the day so do not think I am being negative! You are amazing. I just wanted to note that these guys had a ton of control even though they look "big". The drums were also a bit low even by those days, I assume to give more range of motion for volume. But don't let the big strokes reflect lack of control!!! These dudes brought a quality of sound that wasn't being done at the time...BOOTS
The way we play the beats between 1:10 and 1:24 is after we play that part, we mix them together. We play the 2s on one hand and the 3s on the other hand and then switch them. It becomes a groove after that.
Hey Geoff! It’s been a minute! I’m glad I came across your channel. It’s good to see you again - back from the Bluecoats years…I was the one everyone called “mini-me” (if you remember back from that Stone Age). I’ll be sending a bunch of my students to your channel too. Cheers!
This is pretty much the double beat exercise we used at Morehead State when I marched there in the tenor line for 2 years. My first year, we decided to create some fun little chaos by doing the triple beat part while the snares did the double beat part, and then we did the double beat part while they did the triple beat part. There's a third part our line always did dating back to mid 90s, maybe before? Not sure when MSU started using it in our warm-up routine; I marched in 2001 and 2002. But yeah; the tenor part with triple beat over snares double beat and vice versa was a fun thing but we only did that my first year.
@freestyle rudiments. Love the breakdowns. I havent picked up a pair of drum sticks for years but the sounds of dci drumlines always gets to me. Your videos actually made me want to practice again so i ordered a pad, some sticks and your book. Do you by anychance have a breakdown of blie devils ditty? If not could you do one? Them, vangaurd and cavaliers are my favorite lines of all time🫡
@mrnicknick02 well you can't have the original sheets and share or sell. But you can teach bar by bar with your own notation. But tbh that's why I don't give links to sheets to allow the writers to still sell sheets.

'93 :-)
Hey, do you by any chance have the snare music to the '93 drum feature, Freda? Or do you by chance know it? I've been searching for it for years now.

These cats were absolute ballers…good work dude
Yea. This makes you realise how good lines were even in 92
My era of DCI warm ups - stands? We don’t need no stinking stands ! 😊
Another great play-along warm up. Especially loving the 5:4 section. Thanks very much Geoff!
Thanks forcwatching
It's about time I bought you a pint ....
Thanks for this, REALLY appreciated! I will enjoy the pint
Good flam warmup. Thanks for sharing!
Jesus MERCY what a cool video! I was in the 92 Crossmen as a soprano - these cats were the absolute TITS from day 1. Thanks for this...
Go bones! Great video Geoff 😊
I remember when Premier Drums came on the scene in the 90’s and everyone started using them much like Dynasty in early 2000s and Mapex today.
Premier had a huge market share back then with the first hts snares...
Those Premier Snares sounded so good. Wish they still made them.
Played this exercise for years back in the way back . One of the reasons my forearms are freakishly large. Permachops!

The exercise at 9:20 is 6/8 Rolls. It's got a cool bass accent near the end.
Another great vid

I keep trying to send you the sheet music for the 1992 snare solo...the email is not going through.
Go to website geoff-fry.com and try the email listed their. The freestylerudiments one doesn't work
The domain was stolen😡
Can you do cavaliers 2023 snare break?
He already did
@@mrnicknick02 I forgot to specifically ask for the snare break
Yea I will do that one in the future
Can you please do a breakdown in boston crusader spanks
maybe in the future, tbh I cant figure out a way yet to teach the singles accent section without it taking a LONG time.
@@FreestyleRudiments Can you legally do that though? Since that’s technically something you have to buy

Man, I got work to do on my practice pad especially with mastering these cadences......
