What's up everyone?! I hope this review of the BenQ SW321C was helpful. I was super shocked at the difference this monitor made. It’s like you never know what you don’t know. What do you think?
Was there too much detail? Not enough? What did you like, and also, what did you not like? What would you like to see more of? Would love to know what you think, good or bad. I am grateful in advance 🙏

Hi Tanya. I use Lightroom and Photoshop because I have the entire Adobe creative cloud package. If you don't want a subscription model, you can look at Capture One, ON1 Photo RAW. If you're on a mac you can use Apple Aperture. There are more options but those will get you started. Hope this was helpful.

sorry mate, you talk about color grading and color accuracy and you didn't show any calibration reports. The PM software is broken and the verification is not correct. You need to use 3rd party tools to validate the calibration.

I’m currently looking at a Benq sw271 because I have grown tired of the color shifts in inferior displays despite color corrections from devices. I have two questions for you, one what video card are you using for the multi display set up and how far should you be sitting away from a 32 inch monitor when doing work.

Even this is 3 years old, would it still be the best monitor for photography? Also is it better to take a 32" instead of 27"?

I bought SW320 and display went bad after an year. Was still in replacement warranty but waiting for 2 months from BenQ to hear they don't have that model and tried to upsell SW321C. I am not sure to invest in BenQ again, when there is no post support or the models get discontinued within 2-3 years.

Super review. I’ve watched loads of BenQ reviews over the last couple of days. This was most useful to watch! After watching decided to go for this monitor rather than the 3220U. I’ve always owned Eizo and now want a 4k 32” and this seems the best balance between specifications and price. Thanks man. You got a new subscriber from the UK. Good luck with the channel!

You're in a similar boat as me. I had a BenQ FP241W I LOVED for 11 years before I decided to give it away, because I figured it was old and monitors were better now.
I went with the most "popular" monitor at the time, the Dell UltraSharp U2715H. For a regular schmo, they would probably think it was badass, but I could tell immediately that the it was nowhere near as good or accurate. I've been dealing with it for 4 years now, and since I'm getting much more serious with the production levels on my channel and in my work, that it was time to go back, and I'm doing it up big with this monitor as well.
I have no doubt that it will be even better than the previous monitor I loved, and at its size and 4K, should last me at least a decade like my last BenQ, which is why I think it's worth the price.

I totally agree - if it's something you're keeping for years and it helps improve your workflow - I think it's worth the investment. It's a tool you'll be using for hours and hours every day (I presume). Hope the video was helpful. If you get it, let me know how it works out.

Or relying on the GUI to monitor color on the SW321c display is sufficient? Been wanting to find out for a long time. thanks in advance!

You definitely want IPS, if it's a good size, then higher resolutions like 2 or 4k. 10-bit over 8-bit. Look at the Delta E value - you want it to be as low as possible. This one has a Delta E < 2 and something like the pd2700q will be < 3 (but it's $2000 vs $300). Hope this helps.

Hi, my boyfriend used to have a canon 200D but sold it a couple months ago. He’s wanting to get a camera again but a different one this time. He loved his 200D and used it loads to get some great travel shots. Should I get him the 250D? Is that a good upgrade or should I go for something even better like the new 90D, is it worth the big difference in price? What camera would you recommend for him?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 роки тому

Hi Elle. It's a matter of objectives. The 90D is a much nicer camera and has a lot better features than the 250d - it's also more than twice the price. The lenses will cost the same. So if your BF would wants something more professional, and wants much more advanced video features - the 90D is for him.
BUT, keep in mind it's bigger and heavier, so if the main use is travel, he may prefer the light and portable 250d.
I hope this help - from a specs perspective, the 90D blows the 250d out of the water, but that might not be the most important aspect for him (you). What do you think?

Just to correct common mistake non of BenQ hardware calibrated monitors (SW line) are true 10bit, but 8bit with FRC ( flicker rate control) and that's the reason they are half price of true 10bit such as Eizo CG line.

Great review. Hm, no onboard calibrator like you get with for instance most Eizo ColorEdge models. Then again, this BenQ model offers alot of screen estate and 4K resolution...however I really don't know if I need 4K as I'm not editing any 1:1 4K content, and my experiences so far is that 4K scales terrible in the Adobe applications on Windows resulting in micro text in the menus and all sorts of weird proportions and odd UI scaling artifacts. Dunno if I really need 31.9" either, I sit very close to my monitor so my neck would suffer if the screen is too wide - or? I'm between the Eizo ColorEdge CG2730 and this BenQ SW321C. In other words between a 27" SUPERB color stable 1440p monitor with onboard calibrator that's probably the best calibrator available, OR 4K on 31.9" with no onboard calibrator. I had the chance to see the latter and the build quality is not as premium as the Eizo CE's. That hood is down right flimsy and cheap looking. For a premium monitor at that prize it's kinda disappointing. Also the panel suffered from some light leakage.

Thanks for your in depth review of this monitor, but I do wish you had shared the screen with the monitor a bit more especially when you connected your laptop. I purchased this monitor last week and I was super excited to get it but now I'm extremely disappointed. I've had it for 6 days and must have calibrated it 100 times since its arrived. I've calibrated it using Palette Master and DataColor Spyder 5 Pro Colorimeter. I was not happy with results, calibration failed a bunch of times. I changed settings and it passed. But the colors look washed out and super dull.
I thought if I used a different colorimeter it may make a difference. I bought the X Rite X1 Display Pro Plus and used it about 20 times and have the exact same results but it did calibrate faster.
I called BenQ and the first guy Josh was very patient and helpful, after getting XRite colorimeter I called again, spoke with Ivan who was extremely UNHELPFUL.
Im at my wits end. I don't want to return it but it seems that's what I have to do.

@@gasakenny4515 Depending on where you bought it from they will make it difficult to return. I bought mine from Amazon and I bought insurance (I buy insurance for anything over $250.)
I messed around with mine for nearly a week thinking it was just a setting issue. But it was the monitor itself. I called Amazon, they recommended I call BenQ. I called BenQ talked to 2 people, 1 didn't know ANYTHING about ANYTHING. The last person got to the point and said I had a defective unit and to ship it back to Amazon.
I shipped it back - UPS came to pick it up.
I got a new monitor within 3 days of calling.
Don't hesitate to ship it back. $2K is really TOO MUCH for a monitor that isn't working in peak condition.

Excellent review. Also, your color grading is top-notch. Most think OLED is tops for professional content creation editing, but that really only holds true for HDR editing, which is still relatively very rare. Having excellent baseline color performance is more important for IQ.

OLED is top tier primarily for its infinite contrast ratio and tendency toward better color reproduction; not really HDR. For HDR mastering, the market is largely still LCD, like with the Sony HX310, which is dual layer LCD. LCD still reaches far higher levels of brightness than professional OLED is. But in SDR workflows, nothing beats OLED for both color consistency, accuracy, and contrast.

Hey nice video again, I’m a big fan of your production quality from setting your stage lighting to your panning and sliding applications, and wow, welcome to pro monitor land! BenQ does a very good job here and tends to undercut the competition by hundreds if not thousands of USD. Nice option. BTW if you’re a Mac user and wondering how these look compared to a modern 5K Retina display, pixel density is pretty bad though the color reproduction exceeds the iMacs in certain conditions; BenQ’s AG coatings are aggressive as stated in the video and this is helpful in many scenarios, and quite harmful if you edit in dark rooms since IPS glow tends to get refracted terribly in all four corners. Otherwise, a nice option and you can run multi-head setups centered on a 5K iMac with some scaling enabled and the BenQ will dither and interpolate very, very well to the point that your eyes can’t tell it’s running on-native resolutions. Cheers!

Tech Gear Talk, hey no problem, I’m learning something from every video that you post so least I can do. I’ve yet to see this new release in the flesh but have been working on BenQ and LG 32” IPS displays for some time now, and longer on 27” 5k configs (all for graphic design and content creation-think I jumped on the 5K bandwagon in 2014, though drivers didn’t begin the FRC action for 10-bit color until later, then 2016 for my first 4K 32” in the office) and the latter are very good at sRGB while outputting sane nits settings. You really need to see something like a PD3200U driven by a capable GPU (10-bit aRGB) aside an Eizo grade monitor to judge subjectively what you miss in the darks though spot calibration charts are useful in showing the Creative how applying money to output on the workflow investmnet comes through. Simply not having color banding in gradients is worth it alone to upgrade to 10-bit display support, and once you get some HDR rendering say at around 400nits it also helps to stop depending on a histogram to see where you’ve blown out your images, or perhaps opposite and left some range short of exposure. Trusting your tools is so worth a small expense such as $2K for a single, pixel perfect display. I’m personally stoked to see BenQ keeping the pressure on LG’s native offerings, filling in holes of Apple’s offerings, and undercutting Eizo gear.

Interesting video but be careful of shortcuts... Lot of display have 10bit panel nowadays but you won't get 10bit unless you use compatible apps and most of all you have a compatible gpu (quadro or AMD pro and it's way expensive). The lut doesn't improve anything but store the LUT for calibration instead of depending on gpu/OS side. More important video calibration and photo cal are two different things
