The greatest compliment an editor ever gave me as a colourist was that I attended to much to subtle detail he couldn’t see. That is the art of a good grade. Adjusting the feel, without distracting the eye.
Love the passion for his hometown and wanting to not only get himself out in the world but for his work to reflect well on his city. That's inspiration to give to everyone!
FINALLY A COLORIST TELLS THE WORLD THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CORRECT AND GRADE. Oh and I read those books. Very in depth about color on those. Took classes as well for coloring and it is no where easy.
Simone Campobasso color correction second edition. It is with a black book and a girl sitting in the front. It also says professional techniques for video and cinema. Not sure if they have another edition but this one was second hand used already but mine was in great condition. Books are helpful cause it has hidden techniques that you tubers do not use. I am assuming cause UA-cam is like a trend thing for video tutorials. Keep your books by your side especially even in the post room cause you never know when you need to sneak it.
at the end ofthe day its up to your choice...and your clients satisfaction.....great video and thank you for sharing your experience....continue inspiring !!!
As per pro colorists and reddit channels.. qazi is not a good colorist. He won't the follow basic standards of color grading process. Confuses the audience (Sales trick) and Makes the audience a fool.
Amazing. It shows that you can have the best camera in the world and lighting but until you learn to grade properly you won't ever showcase the true potential of a shot.
@Kévin Miller The "we'll fix it in Post" philosophy is very dangerous to the total creative process. Cinematography, Lighting, Set Design, Choice of Optics and formerly choice of Film Stocks; cannot be simply dismissed out of hand by thinking you can create anything and everything in Post! It just doesn't work that way, life is not VR, at least not to the extent that transhumanists would like you to believe.
@Kévin Miller The colorist will need good material to work with, which is why a quality camera and lighting are necessary. If there isn't enough data in the video, it is heavily compressed, or it is all the same color, uniformly underexposed, etc., the image will not hold up under the extreme changes necessary to correct the shot.
Don't we all have that dilemma at sometime? rough cut/grade 1, 2,3 fine cut/grade, 1,2,3 final, 1,2,3 lock off ..... This has been very stimulating, thank you 👍
You are so talented and have a great eye for what the end end result needs to be. My sincere compliments on your work Very best to you always. Cheers. Pete
His 3rd display is a reference monitor, not a standard computer monitor. They're are or should be calibrated to get correct color representation. To use with Resolve you need a Blackmagic IO card. The cheapest one is the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Monitor. it has SDI and HDMI outputs. When connected you go into Resolve, preferences, system, Video & Audio IO and you will the the device listed in "For capture and playback use". Select it and you your 3rd full screen monitor.
Now one seems to address that when you adjust the color's and contrast etc it will add noise. To get rid of the noise you start to soften the picture?? Now what?? Back and forth to reach a happy medium??
It's most likely that you are not using RAW uncompressed footage with a Log color space, which almost every colorist will require, and almost every professional film will be shot in. RAW in Log format videos will 99% never break or fall apart (aka add noise) just by simply increasing contrast/color.
4FrameMusic - Sure, but it could make existing noise more pronounced, depending on the shot. Chuck - You could use a good denoiser, which the paid version of Resolve has built-in, or there are plugins that do it in other software. Another technique is to reduce hues where the grain is most prominent. There's also a channel-combining technique to try to "cancel out" a bunch of the grain. It's somewhere on UA-cam, I remember seeing it a long time ago.
or better still, ignore it. ppl are too obsessed with noise reduction when it's often a better idea to just leave it there. Misuse of noise reduction can make shots look terrible
Nice work 👁🎬 I am what you called and amateur at this video editing To be honest with you I never knew that it was so many different things that you can do with video editing I didn't even know it can get this deep just to create that perfect video I have so much to learn..
hi there i would like to buy projetor to work davinci resolve software , which projector is use to see for color correction of davinci resolve, please help me
Taylre you are incredibly talented . If I only had one pic of a post production software of all the ones out there, would you recommend DiVinci Resolve ?
Hi from Hyderabad India, I want to learn the davinci resove for colourist . I have small doubt i.e "Do you this feild have jobs and how much can be earned, how many years will it take to get best job for me".
john it’s called a control surface.. makes making changes to the colour wheel and brightness bars real easy compared to dragging with the mouse cursor in the interface..
I really like your video and thanks for the few guidelines.. i really want to become a colorist and i have gone through davinci tutorials also... so you please help me.. ?
color, but there's also audio, exposure,..actors. and definitely a good story.. color is not the only important part of a movie. You reminded me of a guy who one day sold the best pizza in town and it was placed on the newspaper, however many years later when his shop was about to be shut down he still believed he was the only one who could cook the best pizza.
He is a colorist, so he should do only just one job, you're the kind of people that would hire an entire department worth of work for a one single person and pay peanuts.
hey brother this is srikanth babu from India, I want to colour grading for my feature film, so I want to you join my team & do grading our movie. it's 2 hours duration. so how much charge this project for colour grading, I hope you respond my message. thank you.

Thank you Linkedin for sharing this with us. It is nice to see someone sharing his process of coloring.
Then I suggest to watch and study Neumann films and Yuri Palma, they are the greatest ib grading on youtube
Wow! This is one of the best videos on color coloring out there. Pretty much sums up a colorists' experience and workflow.
