it's so poignant that the old lady has to comfort the young greenhorn doctor over her impending death. really just a powerful scene and wonderfully acted. thanks for the memories, Scrubs.
scrubs had it all. Humor, sadness, great cast, amazing writing, awesome directing, unbelievable soundtracks, everything. I loved how you could spend 19minutes laughing, then in the last couple of minutes it could make you tear up. 10/10 episodes like My lunch, My screw up, my long goodbye, my old lady etc are what make it a 10/10 show.
23 years into a medical career and I still maintain that every med student should watch this show. It may be a comedy, and taken to extreme, but the emotion is sincere. Heartbreakingly stunning. Right up there with M*A*S*H's chicken.
I was choked up for about 10 minutes after this... After JD Mentioned the "1 out of 3 Patiens" thing earlier on I feared the worst. (As in just one of them would die) Then I heard/saw the flatline on all the monitors and the tears started flowing... The Award was well deserved for this episode.
"So they say that one out of every three admitted to this place will die here. But some days the odds are worse then that." OMG They all died. I saw this when it first aired. Brought me to tears.
The twist at the end of this episode always gets me. They start with the "one out of three patients will die here" and you're there just trying to figure out which one will be, only to be slapped by this bittersweet ending. Sometimes you do all you can and still life isn't fair, just try to take something from it. Beautiful writing.
Love the moment where they here the beep, you don't know which one will die. Just goes to show you - life isn't fair - but you learn and move on. Scrubs always gives you an excellent balance of laugh out loud humor and real human sadness - Great Show!
someone who hasn't watched scrubs will look at this scene thinking its a sad drama. thats how freakin good scrubs was. it had the funniest scenes in sitcom, and scenes like this. deep and meaningful scenes, that are heartbreaking. best show ever.
This is probably the one of the best episodes of any show that I have ever seen. The blend of comedy and heartfelt drama was masterful in this episode.
They had to have an episode like this where all the new doctors face death for the first time, and they did it extremely well. The song fits in perfectly as well.
this was the first time i cried in scrubs.. and it definitely wasnt the last
J.D.'s "I'm scared." shows the purity and bliss of his character.
So sweet.
I love this episode. One of the best.
it's always that cut to Turk being comforted by the patient's dad that gets me
the actor that played the old lady in this episode - Kathryn Joosten - died today. this is one of my favorite scrubs moments ever. RIP

Every time I run a really shitty call, I come back to this scene. It's been years and I've never forgotten it.

Life’s best lessons come from the last 4 minutes of Scrubs episodes.
