You'd be surprised on how often your in proximity to a bear when you live in bear country. They can smell for miles. They know where humans are. They just rarely bother us.
If you're running in the woods of British Columbia, you're bound to run upon one of the 15 000 grizzlys that live there one time or another. And you're probably either gonna surprise them, or trigger a predatory response because you're running - neither of which is great for surviving. Hiking is one thing, but running, alone, with seemingly no bear spray or anything at hand? Hard pass from me!
When in the outdoors, you will have no idea most of the animals, including bears are there. Most of the time bears too will flee if they become aware of your presence. They typically want nothing to do with humans.

If you run in a area were there are bears you should carry pepper spray for protection, and make a lot of noise so that you scare away potential bears. You probably panicked in this situation, and i`m sure i would have done the same thing if a bear came sneaking up on me like this one did to you, but try to make noise when you run in areas where there`s bears. This bear just wanted to chase you away, she didn`t want to kill you, but by running you could have triggered her hunting instinct.
Trust me, in a situation like this, even the most unhealthiest person will kick in to high gear with adrenaline and run for miles if it's to save your own life.

at least one hiker had bear bells near the beginning. I tried for about 1/10th of a mile and the bells went in the pack- in a sock to keep them quiet. I'll take the risk.

Grizz Mom w/cubs will certainly attack if you're in close range. Play dead, cover your neck and lift your knees to your chest. Black bear Mom w/cubs will almost always retreat. If a black bear attacks, you must fight. Playing dead does not work w/a black bear.

Yeah, it could have caught him for sure. He seems like an in good shape quick runner (the dude), but bears are faster than people. On a bike, I think any good cyclist could escape a bear but even then there are no guarantees. Personally, I can sprint on my mountain bike up to 60kph, for about 5-10 minutes.

No, not my ass. The only reason he didn't get his shit mauled was because the bear heard him coming and wasn't startled. Also it probably had heard and seen many other humans already. If he happens to come around a corner with thick trees or a rock and startled the bear, he would probably have been attacked.
People seem to think predators will attack you regardless if they see you.. Usually they will only attack if startled or hungry, but of course there are many other reasons and it's up to you to risk it. But killing prey is difficult so most animals will only do it when necessary so keep calm, keep your distanse and don't draw attention. (I know this is very easy to write from a toilet seat) but more times than not follow those steps and you will be fine

What's crazy is about 20-25 seconds before encountering the Grizzly bear he crosses paths with another hiker who had just come from where the Grizzly was at. So either the other hiker didn't even notice the Grizzly bear and just hiked along or the other hiker saw the Grizzly and thought he'd keep quiet so the other hiker had a surprise waiting for him 😂😂😂
The "Black bear" actually comes in many different colors and its a common misconception. Black bears can be white, brown, cinnamon, black and white, etc. I hunt and live in Idaho, I run into black bears here all the time. Prettiest one I've seen was black with a white diamond on her chest, she had one brown cub and one black cub.
This video should have started 3:10 in. The bear wasn’t chasing him and didn’t even though he was running. That’s hard for a animal to resist. Black Bears can run 38mph.

Heres a few tips. Dont run, if he wants to eat you climb a tree. Bears dont realy attack humans, if they would it would probably be because it was hunting you or it was scared by you and wanted to defend itself
Daniel Eikefjord if you climb a tree he can climb it too, plus you don't have nowhere to run. Best thing is try to use trees and rocks around you to obstacle him and even better drop your backpack, bottle, gloves, helmet or anything you have on you, there's a good chance he will stop to check if it's something he can eat.
Bear was like..."What, you see a fucking sasquatch behind me or something?!" I would hope that, judgeing by how busy that trail is, he is accustomed to humans and was trying to avoid them. That torn to shreds dead tree trunk looked fairly recent and was a harbinger of bear. Not long before the sighting. Still would be scared shitless, it was big.

Grizzly Bears really scare me. It's pretty much my #1 nightmare. You're out in the mountains, it's a beautiful, sunny day, warm buy not hot. You're doing some so,o hiking, breathing in the fresh mountain air. You haven't seen any other hikers in well over an hour when all of a sudden you come across a huge Grizzly sow, a mom with 2 little cubs. You got no weapons and slowly back away. Too late the show attacks. Rips u apart and eats you for lunch while you are still alive. So ya.... Grizzly bears scare me 🐻🐻🐻 (3 Grizzly bear head emojis, representing the mother Grizzly and her 2 cubs)
@@maycohen7536 by running, you can instinctively trigger a predator into pursuing you. The vast majority of times, a bear will simply wander by, or run away (more frequently) if it doesn't view you as prey. Running makes you look like prey.

I used to run with my Akitas down grizzly infested trails in Alaska and never had any problems. Moose aren't as shy though. I was more cautious of seeing moose than bear tbh.
Lol I can tell you don't live near woods or small town located around the woods. I know over a hundreds of people who have had accidents on mountains, lakes, rivers, camping etc. They always go back (if they're not tourist). It's like when a kid had a life and death situation in sports or at skateboarding. Do they rarely quit and never do it again?
It's definately a Grizzly, I was able to pause it, and see the hump. I also was able to see a second smaller bear. If it was a cub, you are the luckiest man alive.

Yeah, it could have caught him for sure. He seems like an in good shape quick runner (the dude), but bears are faster than people. On a bike, I think any good cyclist could escape a bear but even then there are no guarantees. Personally, I can sprint on my mountain bike up to 60kph, for about 5-10 minutes.

No, not my ass. The only reason he didn't get his shit mauled was because the bear heard him coming and wasn't startled. Also it probably had heard and seen many other humans already. If he happens to come around a corner with thick trees or a rock and startled the bear, he would probably have been attacked.
People seem to think predators will attack you regardless if they see you.. Usually they will only attack if startled or hungry, but of course there are many other reasons and it's up to you to risk it. But killing prey is difficult so most animals will only do it when necessary so keep calm, keep your distanse and don't draw attention. (I know this is very easy to write from a toilet seat) but more times than not follow those steps and you will be fine
You are, of course, being facetious. Running triggers the predatory instinct to chase what runs. Thankfully it didn't happen this time. Chances are this bear sees lots of people on this busy trail.

What's crazy is about 20-25 seconds before encountering the Grizzly bear he crosses paths with another hiker who had just come from where the Grizzly was at. So either the other hiker didn't even notice the Grizzly bear and just hiked along or the other hiker saw the Grizzly and thought he'd keep quiet so the other hiker had a surprise waiting for him 😂😂😂

The "Black bear" actually comes in many different colors and its a common misconception. Black bears can be white, brown, cinnamon, black and white, etc. I hunt and live in Idaho, I run into black bears here all the time. Prettiest one I've seen was black with a white diamond on her chest, she had one brown cub and one black cub.

This video should have started 3:10 in. The bear wasn’t chasing him and didn’t even though he was running. That’s hard for a animal to resist. Black Bears can run 38mph.

Heres a few tips. Dont run, if he wants to eat you climb a tree. Bears dont realy attack humans, if they would it would probably be because it was hunting you or it was scared by you and wanted to defend itself
Daniel Eikefjord if you climb a tree he can climb it too, plus you don't have nowhere to run. Best thing is try to use trees and rocks around you to obstacle him and even better drop your backpack, bottle, gloves, helmet or anything you have on you, there's a good chance he will stop to check if it's something he can eat.

You haven't seen any other hikers in well over an hour when all of a sudden you come across a huge Grizzly sow, a mom with 2 little cubs. You got no weapons and slowly back away. Too late the show attacks. Rips u apart and eats you for lunch while you are still alive.

@@maycohen7536 by running, you can instinctively trigger a predator into pursuing you. The vast majority of times, a bear will simply wander by, or run away (more frequently) if it doesn't view you as prey. Running makes you look like prey.

Why not? He knows the risks. Maybe now though he will run with a dog or 2. Bears hate dogs and can smell them long before you even realize tgey were there. Dogs smell bears too. I used to run with my Akitas down grizzly infested trails in Alaska and never had any problems. Moose aren't as shy though. I was more cautious of seeing moose than bear tbh.
Lol I can tell you don't live near woods or small town located around the woods. I know over a hundreds of people who have had accidents on mountains, lakes, rivers, camping etc. They always go back (if they're not tourist). It's like when a kid had a life and death situation in sports or at skateboarding. Do they rarely quit and never do it again?
It's definately a Grizzly, I was able to pause it, and see the hump. I also was able to see a second smaller bear. If it was a cub, you are the luckiest man alive.

by the way if the bear decided to chase there's no fuckin way you can run away on a bike on a flat trail, a grizzly bear can hit almost 50 km/h, an average biker under adrenaline rush will probably hit 35

Andrea Roll Tarmac, or DH on Whistler. I ride 46kms every day to and from work, so no I'm above average. I've held it for a block before running out of gas. Note that most of the time I see a headwind. With a tail wind 40+kph is easy to maintain.
