That chuffing and jaw chomping at the end of the video is not a good sign, as it’s something bears will do under stress and it’s one of the warning they give out for you to back off before they attack.
I lived in Alaska for a decade and have tremendous love and respect for bears yet would never refer to them as “harmless.” Most bear encounters end up OK, but some don’t. These people were smart to make noise, not to run, and to put barriers (brush) between them and the bears. You’re correct in it’s good there weren’t cubs! At a place we routinely hiked just outside of Anchorage several people were killed by a brown (aka, grizzly) bear when they inadvertently came upon it’s food cache. These are wild animals.
Why did humans build the trail? For the bears? Humans have the right to enjoy nature, too. But there are rules. Trouble is, the bears also are bad at following the rules. I couldn't enjoy a walk in the woods if I knew there were bears out there to get me. So I stick to zoos where the bears and other animals are locked in cages in order to keep me safe. But I understand the human desire to get outside and enjoy nature.
You don't think that grizzly could take a head in one swipe ? FYI, Kodiak bears are grizzly bears that eat mostly salmon. They live on Kodiak island in Alaska. Hence the name.
Careless. This reminds me of Stephanie Blais, 44, female who was camping with her two children and husband at a family cabin on McKie Lake when the bear killed her.

-turn the fuck around and run at the speed of light
Running would trigger their predatory instincts. If you run, you die.
@@miltonbates6425 I forgot about that, you're right
@@miltonbates6425 It would be very difficult to do. Every instinct tells me to run. I know I shouldn't, but . . .
@@AKHWJ3ST you need to prepare for that while camping in America
Bears are so unpredictable- both black and brown. If your gonna hike and you don’t own a gun at least carry bear spray
No, black bears are very shy and generally you can just clap your hands and they'll run away from you
@@sarah.s.flanagan I thought the same thing. I live in NJ and a few years ago some college kids from Rutgers were hiking in one of our forests here. They saw a black bear and it was very curious and started following them. They tried to scare it away but it didn’t work and it started running towards them. Naturally the young men were frightened and they took off in different directions. Three of them met back up and went looking for their friend. Eventually park rangers located him and he had been mauled to death. I also remember reading somewhere that there are more people killed by black bears then by grizzlies
Most black bear victims are the vulnerable, either children or elderly folk. @@lisal.4498 For healthy adults in good shape, grizzlies are far more dangerous than black bears. Black bears rarely attack, and when they do, as I say, it's normally children
@@sarah.s.flanagan "generally" is the start of the problem.
Never carried a gun in 30 years of hiking in my town thats full of grizzlies...only had one come somewhat close once
I’d never be as calm as they were with a freaking grizzly a few yards away!!!
I know I should be afraid in a situation like this, but honestly I would be amazed by the bear, they are such amazing animals
I think you would be amazed by a channel here on UA-cam called scary bear attacks. They're always supplemented with direct links to the news stories from where he did his research.
I like nature but that's way too close to me😮
Can we take a minute to appreciate dude’s
commitment to filming what could’ve potentially been his death all for our entertainment 👏🏼
The cameraman never dies.
Psychopath
Katmai NP bears seem to be very courteous to hikers. Have seen many videos like this and the bears always seem laid back like this.
I've watched videos where the bears were not so laid back. They are a wild animal. Show respect.
he was bearly interested
😂
😂😂😂😂
That's just what the bear wanted you to think.
"Hello Bear"😂 "Hey Bear" "Hello Death"
I'll never go anywhere wild animals are, like bears and cougars, without a gun.
Just stay in your back garden guys!!!!
That chuffing and jaw chomping at the end of the video is not a good sign, as it’s something bears will do under stress and it’s one of the warning they give out for you to back off before they attack.
Thats just nervousness not so much attack behaviour
I applaud these people. If I survived an encounter like that, I'd just go home.😮
Bear: "hey guys don't run away! Man I'm lost I need help..."
Strange how lush and green it is for late winter.
It’s not late winter when this is filmed . Late spring or summer
@@deew7014correct. Fresh grass and salmon
Hello bears hibernate in.winter . People need to read again.
That’s a huge bear but completely harmless. Good thing it wasn’t a mom with cubs tho.
No bear is "completely" harmless.
Completely harmless? You are very naive
If you think ANY bear is completely harmless that's is ignorant. This bear is an apex predator it will kill you without a second thought.
Lmfao. A harmless brown bear eh? Well I’ll be damned. Go give it a hug then
i always have dreams about having to run or escape from bears and the bears are like three times how they normally would be...
Those are the dreams I have while I camp in grizzly country lol
I've always had bear dreams too 😅
That bear couldn’t have cared less about the hikers.I understand the hiker’s apprehension but they weren’t in any real danger.
The Bear’s like guys I’m stuffed on salmon and you look like vegans… this isn’t what you think, i just wanted some boop snoots
If someone breaks into your house you are going to protect it and try to kill them... Well, folks the same thing applies in the wild.
“Hey bear” like it even understands it’s own name humans gave it 🙄
They say that as a way to alert the bear they are there. It’s pretty common if you’ve ever been in bear country
Bears hate it when you say “hey bear”.
These two are completely I’ll equipped to travel hiking anywhere ever again
Cocaine bear
Oh no! Lol
@@ELOAAMinistries lol 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing to see how big they are, must not take their power as a storybook tale. A Kodiak can stand up and take a man's head off with one swipe.
You don't think that grizzly could take a head in one swipe ?
FYI, Kodiak bears are grizzly bears that eat mostly salmon. They live on Kodiak island in Alaska. Hence the name.
I am glad brown bears are fairly chill most of the time and don’t normally want to eat me. Used to live rural near a bunch of bears
What’s scarier then one bear, two bears.
"Hey Bear" = "Please Don't Maul Me" 😮😮😮
Bears are so cuddly
I’m sure they are very cuddling. 💀
Careless. This reminds me of Stephanie Blais, 44, female who was camping with her two children and husband at a family cabin on McKie Lake when the bear killed her.
How is this careless? They made their presence known and slowly backed away. They probably also had bear spray for if things got outta hand
Does the bear know it's a bear? It might think of itself as something else so calling it a bear out loud seems ridiculous.
Especially if it identifies as something else. Extremely disrespectful to be presumptuous
Hiking in bear country and humans telling the bears how to hike.😂
That bear is traveling light, just the bear necessities.....
Why would any sensible/sane person go hiking where bear encounters are more likely than not, to happen? Smdh
'Cause Murica
So if you live in an area with bears you’re just not allowed to be in nature? That’s ridiculous. Just bring a gun or bear spray and know how to handle bear encounters
@@bigoofinthechat5496 haha "just bring a gun" is the most Murican thing ever
@@petezah4597 Ikr. In other countries you just have to politely ask the bear to stop 😂
Bear spray is enough, you don't need a gun. It's more than possible to fend off grizzlies with bear spray-- you don't have to outright kill them
Still safer than Detroit…
lol! 🤣😂🤣
And Chicago
Both bears and people who look brown frighten you? Got it.
@@WalkingadversityThe hikers should have hid from the bears in your mom’s snatch. It’s wide, cavernous, and there’s room for all of them.
Ugh such a beautiful bear! Lucky to witness it irl, and also lucky to be okay
This dude was a "Cool Cat" for sure man.
"Hello bear" would most definetely not be my first response seeing a bear.
Bears are like “guys just chill, we already had dinner”
I'm sure they both hold degrees and want student loan forgiveness lol 😆
