Guitar Center has a demo section, it's called "Guitar Center."

Worse yet is Musician's Friend who once sent me an acoustic from their "open box" offering that had an extra hole in the spruce top, that had not been disclosed.
I still like my local Guitar Center, though because I live a long way from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The only guitar I've ever bought from guitar center I ordered a limited run of a special color of classic vibe mustang and it came pretty much straight from Fender and was unopened. And yeah I think most cases I'd hope that the stores would open them and check them before selling them to me, but in the case of guitar center? It's pretty much the opposite which is just kind of sad

It's more like like they have a "new section" as my first guitar a Jackson JS22 I got from the back and unboxed from the box that Guitar center got from fender... How? A staff member just spoke up and said they had one or two in the back and then spent a hour looking for it... The guitar is perfect by the way too as it should be.

What a cool Epiphone! People will probably jump all over me, but I typically don’t think of “fun” or “quirky” when I think of Gibson/Epiphone. This thing has a surfy Fender vibe. Congrats!

I have one. I was playing it yesterday. The Gibson mini-hums sound great, IMO. SW had to send me 3 before I got one that FedEx didn't damage in shipping. One had a big neck break, the 2nd had a tiny crack in the finish extending from the corner of the nut on the bass side. The 3rd one arrived in pristine condition, even though the box had more damage than the previous 2. Very cool guitar! I've purchased several demo guitars from SW. Every one has been excellent. One had "scratches" on a pup cover that was actually only on the protective plastic over the pup. Another has a scratch so minute that I can barely find it. All were discounted significantly.

I got one of these based on your demo & the fact that a friend had an original 60s model that was magical (his was pellam blue that looked green). I loved it right away but didn't like the bridge pickup volume so far back, so I moved it behind the neck volume with both tones in the back (I don't move the tone knobs that much). I also made a new pickguard in black since the headstock is black & polished the frets a little. Now it is my number one - my wife even likes it!

I bought a demo MIM Fender Strat in candy apple from Sweetwater 10 years ago for $300. Had the slightest nick on it that I could find with my thumbnail but wasn't particularly visible. I've put a lot more scratches on it since. Will always be my special find! Everything is vintage setup. I modified the wiring to make it modern but otherwise I've kept it stock. Plays perfect, stays in tune even with heavy trem use!

I had the Wilshire from about 10-15 years ago with that vibrato (honestly it looked like that but in transparent black, and dot inlays)… I couldn’t get it to stay in tune, which was sad because I was thinking about that one since it came out and I just couldn’t afford it for the longest time.
The RAREST Crestwood is the one with triple-pickups. They never reissued that one, so it’s only sold in the vintage market.

I got one of these from the Gibson garage when I was visiting Nashville in the fall. This is not at all what I’d be expecting to be vibing with but I couldn’t put it down - so much fun to play, the neck is way slimmer and flatter than any Gibson or epi ive found - very comfortable, and oh the sound! Like a Firebird but with more surf, more twang. Such a rad instrument!

Congrats. Great guitar. Obviously fun to play and easy on the back.
A guy sold me this beautiful lime green Wilshire reissue without any pickups or electronics, so I did it MY way. I love the Wilshire/Coronet/Crestwood body shape (I own a '64 Coronet as well), but I hate the electronics. So I cut a new pickguard, did the wiring my way, and installed a pair of Duncan P-Rails. The volume and tone are master, situated where I like them, and the Tele-style pickup selector works well. The two toggles you see select the three possibilities for each of the P-Rails. With both pickups on, I have 9 possible tonal variations. I wired the tone control as "bidirectional" as per Craig Anderton's suggestion from the early '80s. IT gives a different rolloff in each direction.
The P-Rails are installed in a way some might call backwards. Most folks install them with the blade coils on "the inside" and P90 coils on the outside. But one of the annoying quirks of short-scale set-neck guitars joined to the body way up is that there needs to be room between the end of the fingerboard and the neck pickup for the neck tenon (as on your Crestwood too). That squishes the two pickups closer together, reducing the tonal contrast between neck and bridge. I installed my pickups such that the blade sections were as far apart from each other as the guitar allows, making the pickup change from neck to bridge (and vice versa) the sort of tonal contrast a Tele or Strat player is used to. The use of mini-buckers on the Crestwood improves that "squished together" element.

is that a stella harmony in the background? i see it all the time and it'd be pretty cool if it was the kurt guitar, atleast a 6 string version ir something since it has 6 strings it looks like.
    also that tone is nice!

The trem on my Crestwood is my favorite feature. It doesn't sound like other trems.

IMO, that's the guitar that you were born to play! A perfect fit! 🙂

I used to have a cherry red, 60's Crestwood Deluxe. It was built like a Gibson Custom model with ebony fretboard and bound headstock. It was quite fancy - it even had fretless wonder filed frets and 3 mini-humbuckers. I took off the tremolo and replaced it with a stop tailpiece. It was a wonderful sounding guitar but the neck was so thin as to be uncomfortable for my fat fingers. I later sold it to a guy in Italy. Those Italians were into Crestwoods. I wish I had kept those wonderful mini-humbuckers.
I later bought a new Crestwood. I think it was made in Korea. It doesn't have the tremolo or the fancy stuff but it did have the batwing head, 2 mini-humbuckers, and the same construction. It has a big, chunky, neck and cost around 200 bucks. It's a wonderful guitar.

I briefly had a Crestwood Custom with that tailpiece - some fretboard oil will darken that wood up and it looks much better

That compensated string bar is interesting - a really elegant solution to keeping strings in tune, and now I'm wondering why Bigsby doesn't do the same. I did not expect something so novel from Epiphone/Gibson.

Looking online for Epiphone Crestwood see some called Custom models. Different 3-3 headstock. P/ups are PRO Mini Humbucker, selling new ~ $600. Knob layout is different, color white or red with weird white design under strings between pickups seen on red one.
