1:07 .Lol, I love Ryan's expression as he tosses the box. Maybe he's imagining Josh Scott watching w dismay. "He has no box "
Lol I think about josh every time.
Wow that was an underwhelming group of circuits, thanks for trying this stuff out for us!
Ryan, you might just be the most likable person on UA-cam
Love the afford a board content keep it coming!
I don’t know much about acoustic simulation, but I think the neck pickup alone would be the right place to start.
The controls on the acoustic simulator are labeled identically with the (discontinued) Hotone Skyline "Wood".
The proud father face when the delay does spaceship noises 😂
I could live happily with the muff phase and delay that’s all day fun for me.
The teo cheapest, the fuzz and thr delay, are the best sounding of this iset line.
I had the flight delay for a bit. I had no jssues with it and thought it was a great basic delay.
I just looove afordaboard video’s, so thank you!😀
I traded in my wheat fuzz towards a boss re-2. Best $8 store credit ever! 🚀
I got the Dumbler from your last review of ISET....Loving it! Maybe will give one of these a try.
Thank you for these. I am wanting to build a small board with only small pedals for giggles
I cracked up when you put on prairie verb and then started playing home on the range
Ryan, you surprised me by proving that you know the difference between vibrato and tremolo! Right on, dude!
I’m starting to build pedal boards on aluminum ATV ramps now
I have the Pure Flight delay and use it often.
I'd love to see you check out the NUX mini pedals. I've heard good things about the delay, the chorus and the reverb, but I need someone I can trust to demo them!
Loving the affordaboards.
Suggestion: for the holidays, perhaps do colour themed boards (affordable or regular).
Christmas - only pedals that naturally come in red or green.
Halloween - orange and black
Winter - white
Valentine's Day - red and/or pink.
Fourth of July (or Bastille Day) - ....
:)
we need more wah pedals!!!!
Thank You Ryan, everyone loves afford a boards. Personally I want an Ac sim...Digitech Mosaic seems good but is pricey.
you got me intrigued on fuzz, i ended up with the EHX op amp muff, and a cheap joyo vintage OD since i heard it was a good sub for a Tube Screamer since i like palm mutes i need it in front, i have other ods but so far the joyo OD tightens up best ok you just started playing with that green Muff thing and i forgot what i was saying, i really like that, it reminds me of the sound of me OD an op amp muff combo but on its own. Anyway I am a full blown Fuzz fan now, wonder wheat that would sound like stacked with my other fuz and OD? at 24$ no reason not to find out.
YES NEW AFFORD A BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
That fuzz or whatever it was sounded pretty good. Are these the same as all those other rebranded chinese pedals?
Most acoustic sims don't do a lot that sounds like a "real" acoustic, but they add the jangly top end. I think some of them do a decent simulation of a piezo pickup but they don't offer a mix knob.
One guitar that I fell absolutely in love with when it existed was the Epi Les Paul Elite with the Fishman pickup built into the fretboard past the 22nd fret. It had some good warmth, and you could mix it with the electric pickups to get some really great sounds just... not possible with one system or the other.
I think an acoustic sim pedal with a mix knob would be GAME CHANGING, letting the user mix in the fake acoustic sound, while still giving it the top and body controls so that everything is fully dial-in-able.
the low -res fingerprint pedal isn't an "acoustic simulator" it's a scoopifier I don't know what pedal they though they were copying but it wasn't anything desirable, wow.
Theyre copying the boss acoustic sims, they sound identical and are just as crappy, but sound nice with distortion
Ryan-- i highly encourage you to try using the acoustic simulator almost like an amp. Slam it with a huge boost or a drive. This type of pedal breaks up really nicely and can add a sort of strange ambience, but I wouldnt ever recommend using it to make an electric sound acoustic.
The legend of iset!
for those types of acoustic sim pedals, there will generally be only one setting that sounds OK for each guitar you use... From my experience, they sound best when using just a single-coil neck pickup... Turn the "body" knob down all the way, turn the "top" knob up until it has a pleasant amount of overtones, sparkle, etc., and set it just below where it starts sounding unnaturally bright, and then bring the "body" up again little by little until it has just enough fullness that it sounds natural. There really will only be one setting that sounds decent, and it's dependent on your amp's volume and tone settings too, so if you alter those (or play through a different amp), the pedal's knobs will need to be adjusted too to find the one good setting again
Off topic, just noticed that Flamma makes a battery powered guitar. Should check it out for the rest of us weary buyers lol
for the money the fuzz, phaser and delay are sensational! the acoustic sim sounds like my bloody valentine (in a bad way) all lows and highs with no mids at all - terrible. the verb was dreadful except that prairie setting...which i really loved!
That fuzz sounded huge
It wasn't bad although I must remember UA-cam compresses the audio and it's not the famed OG Cuvave fuzz.
I wonder if either of my Rics would sound good through this particular fuzz considering they are bright, but chimey guitars
I think the acoustic simulator pedal is one of those "set it and forget it" components. If you're a gigging guitarist and don't want to lug an acoustic around for songs that need one, you just have an A/B footswitch that splits off just to that pedal in the chain. You keep the knobs fine-tuned for exactly the acoustic tone you want for your main axe, and pop it on when it's needed. It's not the best-sounding acoustic simulator, but really, how much do you want to pay for a situational pedal?
+1 on the Dumbler though.
I still think some acoustic sim pedals can be nice if you just want a different tone in like an intro. I think Boss one is pretty alright personally.
The affordable Mooer Acoustikar looks like one of the best acoustic simulators on the market
I have the rare Hotone Omni AC which is one of the better sounding acoustic simulators
Old Iset flanger pedal is the best for me
flight delay is the keeper. The prairie setting on reverb baby was nice too….if I had to choose one it would be the delay.
1. The Chaff (what wheat "fuzz" is called)
2. Flight Delay
3. That serviceable Phaser
4. Reverb Baby (it had some usable settings)
That last one was junk.
Shame these don't seem to be available in Europe. Unless they are called Amuzik here? They seem to have a very similar range (different graphics) including a "Dumbler" that someone mentioned elsewhere in the comments.
I'm still once bitten by the "affordable" pedals of the mid-2000's (All the weird little DOD ones that mostly sounded kinda crummy, then the lawsuit Behringers which either sounded really good and were really durable, or, sounded like garbage and broke after one stomp) .. But some of these actually sounds really good, especially considering the price .. How do they feel ..? On a scale from 1 (total plastic garbage) to 10 (an early 1980's DS-1) how durable do they appear ..?
You might have a faulty Reverb Baby there, might be worth telling them and getting them to send another one and seeing if it works any better.
Yeah it’s probably faulty
I might be the chip. My 2 Flamma versions were D. O. A. and broken after 5 months and a few uses.
Does it do trails? If so, that could explain any always on buffer effect.
Btw Do you have a “vibe” pedal on the affordaboard, i.e. a “uni-vibe” type pedal?
- not a tremolo or digital vibe, but an analog type using a “ light bulb” or “ led” inside…
Theyshould rename that acoustic sim "The Jangle" and just market it as a kind of 60s top boost.
You look like Woody Harrelson with hair and beard 😁
Ryan I’m after a fuzz but since Cuvave (mwave) changed theirs I’m not sure if it’s worth going for seeing you have the OG. Is the Mwave version any closer to original and what would be your replacement for the OG?
Hey get a little bear mammoth bass fuzz it has a extra knob that controls the velcro sound and the cuvave is based on wolly mammoth fuzz pedal by zvex and the little bear is also based off of it
With these cheap digital pedals I'm always wondering if they just use the chipset manufacturer's reference code, or if they actually do any DSP development themselves.
The hilarious thing is that here in Australia, these pedals come in at $100+
Much better value getting a Joyo!
I'm annoyed the one with a plane on it isn't a flanger. Also whats with the wheat on the muff? Is it the Sustain Grain?
It's the Chaff Fuzz.. you know it separates the wheat from the Chaff..... .google that saying.
@@davidwagner85 I'm familiar with the saying. I don't know what it has to do with fuzz/muffs. It's like if you wrote best of best and put a gold star on a ring modulator, it has nothing to do with the product which makes it hard to tell at a glance what the product is. If I saw that in a shop I wouldn't pick it up because I don't want my guitar to sound grainy. I might pick up the plane one if I was looking for a flanger to make plane noises. I would be dissatisfied.
@@kanahmalit has to do with the Russian muffs.
Anyone try the mosky 250x? Just saw it on Amazon and i haven't tried the dod 250 yet
I have one and like it pretty well. The switch between DOD and MXR mode is useful and it generally sounds like what it's supposed to.
I was pleasantly surprised that the Reverb Baby was not just the same algorithms as the cuvave dig reverb, but was not surprised nby the quality of those verbs 😅
Princess… 😢… princess who adore you… 😭
All seriousness, the pedals look fun at the vary least, looking past actual functionality. You got the acoustic simulator sounding good on the middle setting.
I really didn't miss the 2Ps jingle.
Two prinetons theme. Wish that was my ringtone
While I'm not particularly interested in any of these myself, I thought they all sounded perfectly fine and I'll keep iSet in mind should I ever find myself in the incredibly unlikely scenario of having either my regular delay or big muff break on me with a gig in the next 48-72 hours, and Amazon is the only shopping option available that can get me pedal in hand before my gig.
This video did also remind me that I really want to check out those effects bakery pedals. I generally don't care for mini pedals but I may have to make an exception for the cute little food guys. Maybe I'll build my own afford-a-board to let my kids use on the rare occasion they want to pick up one of my guitars. My wife will know the "it's for the boys" excuse will be b.s. but I bet she'll let me get away with it when I show her how cheap these pedals are.
Thanks for the content, your videos always find a way to put a smile on my face, and I sincerely appreciate the work you and Steve do.
That reverb baby stands out amongst a sea of other bad sounding afford-a-board multi reverbs. It’s impressively shitty sounding! 😂
So what do you all recommend as a good sub $100 reverb
Honestly, as someone who happily plays and uses and recommends budget gear, the best reverb under $100 is using your amp’s built-in reverb while you save up.
The TC electronic Skysurfer is a good “plain”, set-and-forget background reverb and it’s $50 over on Sweetwater. But for $100 JHS has some killer reverb offerings in their all-white “3 Series”. I have the plain 3 Reverb which is a great room reverb. The 3 Hall Reverb is a hall reverb with modulation (so your reverb tails get all swirly) and then they have the 3 Octave Reverb which will select between a high octave shimmer style reverb or a low octave doomier reverb.
Walrus has some offerings in the $130 area, and I picked up their Slotva for that price and it is gorgeous.
I know that that’s not sub-$100, but sometimes the prices are high for a reason. Reverbs are priced high for a reason.
I've owned and played the Skysurfer and 3 Series Octave Reverb and can second them both.
The 3 different Skysurfer reverb types didn't sound drastically different from one another, I think I was most disappointed with the spring reverb selection. Not springy enough for me. But generally, it's a good, plain reverb like @zachary963 described.
The octave setting can be dialed completely out of the 3 Series Octave Reverb, so you can get doom, shimmer, and plain out of that unit.
There are others. Ryan likes and has videos on the Mosky Spring Reverb; there are options from Caline that should be decent; maybe check out the Fender Hammertone Reverb? No personal experience with any of these.
Well. You had a lot of good sounding pedals on your afford-aboard. Those aren't it thou 😅
I think the chip in the Reverb Baby is just crappy. I got another version by Flamma. My first didn't work , the replacement has gone bad after just 5 months , having only been played a few times.
Which Flamma? I got three. Two of them are minis (modulation and overdrive) with the other being the full size reverb FS02 pedal.
@@joellebrodeur1015 FC05 mini
i ordered the reverb baby and unfortunately it did not work. sent it back, received a replacement that also did not work. insert sad emoji face here.
Except the delay..
Is that a JHS NOTAKLON on the Supro amp?
It's on the teal amp, not the Supro👍
Yes, except it's a Tone King amp
Oops...Tone King😉
It's always the reverb making shit noisy 2:40
What, no Two Princetons again? Unsubbed.
Damn. I’m slipping.
@@60CycleHumcast There's only so many times I can unsub before I'll be completely gone.
@@mjdbruynit is okay if he doesn't play through it, I just need that reference and the midi sound repro
Who doesn't like a cheap muff?😂
Maybe the Two Princes can just be a surprise and pop in here or there to signify to people who watch every video that you think it's going to be a great one. I'm thinking that it's going to start feeling like the "60 Cycle Hum" opening that Ryan dropped. Like I get it, it was cute, but I don't get people demanding it.
Legitimately one of the single most disgusting comments I've ever read. Dropping the 2 princeton jingle for anything more than a single video mistake would be grounds for unsubscribing.
Caca, pee, pee
ENOUGH with the distortion with the pedals, PLEase! TY sir very kindly.
Turn down the bass and use the neck pup for acoustic.
No
Guess this means another $131 dollars for more pedals
I love Ryan's pedal demos. These don't sound good at all. I'm done with inexpensive pedals like these.
Wow! They managed to make the worst sounding pedals every made...
ISET.. this board aside
Ryan I saw on aliexpress that Iset has tremolo pedal you haven’t tried btw. Also the kmise tremolo has to internal trim pots and depending on where you set it you can turn the trem into a fuzz. Yeah kind of crazy.
