My first pump was a MiniMed and I had several versions after until I switched to OmniPod. Each time I hear Medtronic talk it just seems like a company that is lost and playing catch up. With what the competition out there is offering now, I think they are 3 steps behind everyone else.
Really great interview! My wife and son have been on the 780G from the start of this year (basically when it became available in Australia). The Smart Guard software is amazing, but the Guardian 3 was definitely a big step backwards from the Freestyle Libre. I think the Guardian 4 is launching here soon - removing calibration sounds good, but it's a shame it's still going to be very fiddly to install. I can only assume we'll be waiting at least 2 years for the Simplera - it may become a race whether we move over to the Tandem. I guess competition is good though.
Current 770g/G3 user here (USA). All of this talk sounds very exciting but it's been over a year since I upgraded and still no sign of the 780g release. I've only ever used Medtronic and would like to stay with them but not if they're constantly lagging behind the competition. I'm glad at least that he acknowledged how outdated the pumps look physically.
I’m on 780 - Medtronic is very lazy. iPhone app is limited, hasn’t even been updated to work with iOS 16. Guardian sensor 3 and 4 are simply copy paste with few lazy changes to remove pricking, mostly aimed at making money than anything else. Sensor 5 is hopefully better. Thank you for your content. I enjoy it. ❤️
I'd love to know why, in Japan, Medtronic has a monopoly but is still slowly getting approvals for older devices (the 670G just got approved here and is rolling out this month). Why not target the 780G and skip the older devices?
I understand that not requiring calibrations for a CGM is a great MARKETING angle... but it comes at the expense of loss of accuracy. I use Libre 1 with Xdrip and calibrate DAILY. I get almost EXACT match between my CGM and blood sticks. Without Xdrip / calibration it is rarely exact and frequently very far off. Give us the OPTION. The problem is the manufactures like the liberal allowances the ADA and regulatory agencies give them to take advantage for marketing rather than improving accuracy.
In my dreams I keep my Medtronic pump and it has interoperability with Dexcom. Just a dream. A few years ago I had major problems with my old Enlite sensor for months. I kept a log of all my contacts with tech support. Always determined there was nothing wrong with the sensor. Finally, saw a fine, very thin hairline crack in it THEN they replaced it. When my insurance changed, I was forced onto Dexcom. Great sensor! Now I can upgrade to 770G with GS. But I must admit, choice of pump may very well be driven by the sensor. Tough decision.
Warning!!! I have been on the 780g since it first released in Switzerland. Over 2 years now. The 780g when working has been great, however I am now on my 3rd replacement of the 780G as the pump has broken with critical pump error 35 for 3 times as of now. Critical pump error 35 is an error concerning the sensor of the piston for the reservoir. Critical pump error 35 makes the pump immediately unusable locks you out of all pump data and functions and the pump is never again usable and becomes basically a paper weight. It must be replaced. The pump is great when working yet the pump is made of a very cheap quality material and is neither durable nor reliable currently. I do not believe the 780g pump is of high enough quality to last long enough for updates. The durability quality of the pump has now failed 3 times for me within let than 2.5 years. The pump must be replaced with this critical pump error. The algorithms are great, but this has not been very beneficial to me as the pump has not been reliable to count on for use. The stress of never knowing when it will fail again, diminishes almost all the benifits of the algorithm. IT almost killed me in it's second failure because the timing of the failure and my location when it failed. I am extremely active and the 780g pump broke first on a multi day hike, 2nd on a vacation outside of the country and 3rd in the rain at the beach many hours from home, pharmacies or other available solutions for help. The pumps Critical Errors made it inoperable always on the weekends when contacting Medtronic diabetes Switzerland was unavailable(Swiss Medtronic is not open on the weekends and Medtronic USA is unable to help with pumps purchased in Switzerland). It has been especially bad as these last 2 times the critical pump error 35 has occurred while I was traveling outside of Switzerland and Medtronic has no way to assist customers if they are outside of the country in which they purchased their 780G pump. The algorithm is great, but the hardware failure and customer service failure has been a nightmare. I no longer believe that Medtronic is reliable. I am still using Medtronic and have been with them since the early 2000's. If Medtronic can not produce a pump that is functional for an active life style, I will be looking at other pump therapy companies. I would never trust them as of now for use with children or young adults as their pumps have too many issues concerning the quality of hardware durability and longevity. I am highly disappointed!!!
Exciting news!!! 🎉 I wonder if Medtronic is working on the integration of the Apple Watch in order to see the glucose value within the complications! Others are doing that already! 😢 (Writing from Italy)
Judging by this interview it’ll be a no…. Not surprising big company says not everyone can afford an Apple Watch so they make their own device and force all users onto that platform…. Been with them for 11 years I’m leaving Medtronic after Christmas… like others have said they got lazy
That’s a great interview. I’m soon to become a 780g user after 10yrs of MDI and very excited about this helping hand (or helping algorithm) to have more decision making in other stuff than carb guessing.
My husband is on the 640 still, and even considering going back to the pen(s). I'm glad to hear about all these developments. Carb counting however is an issue.
We’ve been hesitating for 1 1/2 years now getting my mom a new pump. Currently uses 630 with dexcom. We like the actual buttons on the pump but been holding out if the guardian 4 or simplera would come out and the waiting just keeps getting extended. The learning process is gonna be a big change but she’s about had it waiting and probably taking the plunge to another pump that works with the dexcom
So happy with the new sensor to come, i have to use NJAP to tape my Guardian 3 or G4, still, i don't want to lose the 780G with the sensor. I had a TIR off 20% with the pen, and now i have a TIR off 86% 😁😁 tnx medtronic to give my live back, almost iff i don't have type 1 😘
Did you get to ask him about the possible introduction of Touch Screens and also rechargeable pumps instead of batteries on future pumps? The touch screen on the t:slim is one of the top things that stands it out from the rest. It would seem that this is such a simple upgrade for the 780g.
Great interview. Thanks for all your work here. I have been using an insulin smart pen for few months now and love it. It’s having peace of mind that you have or haven’t taken that shot of insulin and the amount. Any support tech may be to offer on carb counting would be fantastic. Especially for eating out in cafes & restaurants.
I still do not trust them. I never had issues as a T1D until I was on their trial. I had more issues than ever. I was always on their pump and after the pump and sensor I was never happier that I changed insurance companies so I could get off that nightmare of a pump and sensor. Will never trust them again.
My son (born 2012) got diabetes type 1 in november 2019. He has being using Medtronic 640g from day one and 780g for a year or so. Guardian 4 sensor, having problems with the tape, getting very red and itching skin, but still a very good product. He had such good bloodsugar levels. So looking forewards to this new sensor. Great videos from you!!!
I personally do not think carb counting is hard. Even at a restaurant, most have nutritional information on their website. So I think you should just be honest. Most, not me, are too lazy to do it! I even save restaurant nutritional data in my Google Drive and I have 81 of them. That is work and I do it. Most are too lazy to do it. I think the main issue is the human body. I can eat the same exact meal starting at the same exact glucose, take the same exact amount of bolus and one day be high 3 hours late, one be low. So the automatic corrections both ways is what I will value when you get the 780G to the USA. Please hurry!
In the U.K., large restaurants/ chains are now required to provide nutritional information which is super handy! I personally find carb counting very hard hahah. Thanks for watching
With ultra fast insulins, faster infusion and accurate sensors with less lag why do I need accurate carb counting? Non-Diabetics don’t carb count. Just a question.
@@PaulMCohen CGMS sensors are not exactly accurate. The standard is 15%. If within 15%, they are ACCURATE!!! So 15% wrong is good enough. And the faster insulins like Fiasp and Lyumjev are not instantaneous. They still take 20 minutes to start working and peak in about 60 minutes. Fast by insulin standards. But many carbohydrates start raising blood sugar within 5 minutes or less. The body for non-diabetics senses the exact amount of sugar in the blood. And then exactly injects the exact correct amount of insulin into the blood stream to exactly match up with the sugar and transport it into the cells of the body. Everything is instantaneous and exact. Injected or even inhaled Afrezza insulin cannot match exactly for timing and amount. Timing being the exact moment the food gets digested and transported to the blood stream.
Medtronic needs to work with Dexacom and Libre 3. That would help a lot.
My first pump was a MiniMed and I had several versions after until I switched to OmniPod. Each time I hear Medtronic talk it just seems like a company that is lost and playing catch up. With what the competition out there is offering now, I think they are 3 steps behind everyone else.
Exactly, me too

I'd be interested to know which phones simplera app will be compatible with. The G6 isn't yet compatible with new Samsung s23

Love to know how algorithms will handle faster insulins like FIASP and Lumjev when currently they don’t know insulin type or speed of activity.
Fantastic question! Noted.
Oh Camille..."Guardian Simplera" are you serious?!?!

Am I gonna have to wait 30 years for the 780g update?
I am here one year later and there still isn’t any news about the simplera sensor… this is so frustrating
This was a very informative video, and exciting the things Medtronic Diabetes are working on! Steve

When the new sensor releasing
With me being a brittle type 1 anything would be helpful but when you make anything for phones can you add Motorola as one
What’s up with the supply of InPens? It’s been hard to get one where I am (US)

I'm looking at going back to injections. The pump is not as effective. Laying on the sites causes high sugars for me
MDI is a great option. Hope it works well for you.
Omnipod 5 review when?
Add timestamps with the topics
Looks like new CGM will be available before G4 in US sad.
As Ali mentioned, no timelines at this moment.
Great interview. Looking forward to 780G in Canada.
👏🏻
Cool 😎
Awesome
Cool
As a 770G/G3 user in the USA, I find this to be very informative! THANKS!
And to me, eliminating carb counting is like *fully* automated self driving cars. I'll believe it when I see it. :)
Thanks for watching! 😁
Great interview. Thanks a lot!
