Mizyu is also the leader of the group, Suzuka has the most viral voice and because I believe the first take video is their first exposure to many people they think Suzuka is always the lead. Don't get me wrong she is definitely my favourite, just not the lead.
These ladies are gonna be huge. Their catalogue is deep, and feature elements of punk rock, jazz, blues, hip hop and whatever else they can come up with. It will be a joy to watch them take over the world.
Its just the next group being exploited by American-jew Rick Rubin who basically produced the music of many big famous people and groups you know. Its all his music. the Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and LL Cool J. He has also produced hit records for acts from a variety of other genres, predominantly heavy metal (Danzig, Metallica and Slayer), alternative rock (the Cult, Red Hot Chili Peppers and so on. Now these young naive japanese girls make him tons of money. Thats also why they act a beastie boys Intergalactic cover in every live show
I’m most impressed with how they don’t take themselves too seriously and just have fun (but obviously put in the work). The second thing that impresses me is their versatility. They really have something for everyone.
Atarashii Gakko is like Babymetal but with entirely different music. By that i mean that they are inventing their own genre and nobody does what they do.
The reason why it's so all over the place sometimes is because they usually have a bunch of contributing song writers from all over Japan. I think it's really worked.
@@coolbrotherf127 they both do. Babymetal and Atarashii Gakko. I like it. It makes the music much more diverse. Different people but I've seen the names of songwriters for Babymetal and Atarashii Gakko in the Hatsune Miku game (Project Sekai). They are Vocaloid producers. Some of the many people.
@@Dragon-Believer I could see that happening, but not for a while. Babymetal is a lot more popular and makes a lot more money. AG would have to really break out into the mainstream to afford dedicated band members to tour around with them.

Cool! Didn't know that. I just saw Kyary Pamyu Pamyu perform at Anime Central in May, and I just missed Atarashii Gakko! in Chicago last week, because the tickets were sold out.
Newsflash, it wasn't done live. It's playback. Else you'd hear heavy breathing noises, which are inevitable even if the singer is super good. With this amount of choreo even their "live" gigs are mostly hybrid productions. Not quite the same as on record but also not real live. That's because this IS the studio version. I don't even think the previous comment has live vocals, which is not a slight towards the group btw it's par for the course with this kind of music and dance. Their style is not about their ability to sing live. Great live singers (let's say Adele) do not dance. @@Fr0gSplashh dude it very clearly isn't the studio version.. have you not listened to compare the two? If you had you'd know they are clearly singing live for this version. The reason they might not sound not as 'good' in other live performances, is because the dancing and choreography takes priority. With this being first take, clearly the singing takes priority, they do a little bit of dancing because it's their thing, but notice is not as intense. So it's one song with minimal choreography, different from doing a full set live with proper choreography, not to mention the further into a live set they get the more exhausted and compromised vocals become.
Iirc, the reason dancing is so integral to their performance and they're so good at it is that they all started as dancers except Suzuka, who also spent some time learning before the group got together. Mizyu used to be a backup dancer for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Kanon was a ballerina, and Rin did backup dancing for various music videos. Suzuka is the only one who is a singer first and foremost, which is why she does most of the main vocals. Mizyu did some backup vocals for Kary Pamyu Pamyu as well and does main vocals on some of AG's tracks, and Rin always wanted to be a rapper, so she does any rap verses. Also, most of them studied a particular kind of dance (I don't recall the name) known for looking manic and random until you see a group dancing in unison, which combined with some ballet from Kanon gives their choreography its unique look. Suzuka is also from Osaka, and while most singers might try to "correct" themselves to a Kanto accent, she really leans into her Kansai accent; that's why she not only rolls her Rs but rolls them _long_. She's also leaning into that accent a bit by emphasizing her deep voice: the feminine register is pretty high pitched in Japanese in general, but it's lower in Kansai dialect, and dipping into the lowest end and emphasizing rolled Rs is a bit of a Yakuza stereotype, which for young people translates into a delinquent stereotype. In this case it comes off as an inversion, since she's the front woman for a group called "New School Leaders." Or maybe it's a statement against stereotyping, since a lot of their lyrics are criticisms of the Japanese school system and social restrictions. Or maybe she just couldn't change her accent consistently and has a deep voice and it's all a happy coincidence, I haven't read much more than their Wikipedia page.

The choreography is great, it shows off the manic-seeming-but-actually-in-synch style, they work the parts where Rin shouts in, a bit of Suzuka imitating a hip-hop video's fast zoom just with her movements, and, of course, since they've always gotta have the socks, Suzuka has one on her hand, and Mizyu has them looking like the ends of a tied-off belt, which, idunno, just send hilarious to me.

Its funny that the things they critizise are the things that made them what they are today and what keeps their country and culture alive and working. What anarchy looks like just look into modern france, england, usa and parts of germany Just last week in dresden germany the government removed a placate reminding of the 300.000 killed in the firebombing raid that lasted 3 days and replaced it with some new one telling the germans how bad they are and saying only 8 k killed died. While they had to burn corpses for 6 weeks straight on huge piles because there were tooo many to bury. There are photos online
Suzuka has such a cool voice. I think she would fit some jazzy stuff pretty well. But all in all you simply can't watch/listen to this without having a smile :D
You don't listen to them for extraordinary singing performance, but their energy, creativity and the way they express all this together is off the charts

It's a good channel. But every Atarashii Gakko video is awesome. My favorite are the 'dance practice' videos. They aren't actually dance practice. They are dance only performances of their songs.
The “front man”/“front girl “ is essentially the opposite of what you would expect an “idol” to be. She’s blunt, cocky, and sings with a bit of a lower register . The girls behind her sing with a much more traditional idol style. Thts what makes the band interesting , the juxtaposition. But at the end of the day it’s still American style music, this specific song specifically is 1980’s style with Japanese lyrics/twist. ;)
just WATCHING these girls perform live, you can't help but get really hyped. they just put on such an excellent show, and Suzuka has some real Karen O, Debbie Harry, Siouxsie Sioux energy that just gets you jumping and throwing your fists in the air!!! I just barely discovered them, and I'm hooked.
Just like you I found them years ago on TikTok and I LOVE that they stayed genuine with that silly and fun vibe with mature and skilled vocals!!! Love them sm
What is unbelievable about AG!'s performances is how absurdly energetic some of their choreographies are, and how they keep that up with the vocals they perform. They embody the spirit of new Japanese youth perfectly, and I'm beyond hooked with their personalities, music and performances. I hope they continue to get even more well-deserved recognition! ❤❤❤❤
I found them a couple months back. And I'm obsessed. I'm an old crusty metal head, and that brought of all things Babymetal to my attention. That group opened up my eyes to the Japan scene years back now. Then that showed me Band-Maid, who became my number one Japan obsession. And also Maximum the Hormone. But Atarashii Gakko.... something about their music just STICKS in your head. In a good way. So much fun energy. You can't help but smile. Can't decide if "Giri Giri" or "NaiNaiNai" is my favorite. And yes.... I'm also a member of Team Mizyu right with you. LOL
I love Atarashii Gakko! They're so much fun and very talented. Their dancing is amazing also. They performed in Chicago 9 days ago, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to get tickets. Personally, I think their harmonies are beautiful and unique.
well.... been waiting quite some time for someone (in the West) to discover Japan's greatest pop-group of the decade, so far.. and hoping for some more of them in the future...
I love the group because her vocals are far from say Baby Metal, which are super Kawaii. This is a reason Band-Maid is my favorite all-female Rock band because Saiki Atsumi's (lead vocals) voice is like this, which is perfect for a hard rock lead. You can't watch this group without without them putting a smile of your face.
i suggest you re-listen to babymetal songs because their main singer su-metal is such a strong singer and she has a much more stable voice than suzuka. although early babymetal was more cute their concept has changed completely since yui left.
Yeeeessssss omg I discovered them recently and I love them, they're so much fun! I love Suzuka's voice! Their singing live is on point and yeah, just seeing them constantly being at their 1000% all the time is so nice! I'm also gonna try my luck again and recommend LiSA performing with Kalafina and covering their song Kagayaku Sora No Shijim wa ni wa, it was so different for her and I'd love to have a pro's opinion on that! 😊

The song is about the mixed feelings of a girl / young woman when she realises for the first time that she became a sexual being for men. While she still dreams of friendship and romantic love, men stare at her bottom, breast and mouth (watch Suzuka's gestures). Therefore the title "adult blues", i.e. "blues while becoming an adult".
Maybe they don't sing much on TikTok but they are a regular singing group with two albums, two EPs, and several singles. They have been around awhile, they formed in 2015 but they seem to have really taken off the last two years or so. Suzuka has an interesting voice, pretty far from the usual high-pitched idol voice.
SAUR happy Atarshii Gakko is getting more attention, i watched one of their youtube videos like four months ago and i was easily obsessed. You should absolutely watch some of their live shows (they have many) and MVs, they also have some genuinely good songs in their music bank too! Toumei Girl is my personal favorite! Mizyu is also the oldest of the group lol
Im really hoping you'll react to more of their stuff, especially songs like Fantastico or Candy wich have really funky coreographys along with the music!!
Please watch more Atarashii Gakko videos and then re-review the groups vocal performances. Your first review appears somewhat premature. Perhaps some live videos will help provide a better understanding of their unique vocal style. There is a distinctly Japanese flavor to them both melodically and dynamically.

Hi Kat, long time no see. Finally I come back again watching your reaction. Yes Atarashii Gakko is one adorable group. Love their abundance of energy and corkiness. Have you heard an all-female metal band from Japan called LOVEBITES? Please try to react to them. Asami the vocalist has some unique traits of her vocals that you will find interesting. Their songs "Edge of the World" and "A Frozen Serenade" display more of her vocals, you can try them as a starter 😊

I love Atarashii Gakko! They're so much fun and very talented. Their dancing is amazing also. They performed in Chicago 9 days ago, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to get tickets. Personally, I think their harmonies are beautiful and unique.

I love the group because her vocals are far from say Baby Metal, which are super Kawaii. This is a reason Band-Maid is my favorite all-female Rock band because Saiki Atsumi's (lead vocals) voice is like this, which is perfect for a hard rock lead. You can't watch this group without without them putting a smile of your face.
i suggest you re-listen to babymetal songs because their main singer su-metal is such a strong singer and she has a much more stable voice than suzuka. although early babymetal was more cute their concept has changed completely since yui left.

Yeeeessssss omg I discovered them recently and I love them, they're so much fun! I love Suzuka's voice! Their singing live is on point and yeah, just seeing them constantly being at their 1000% all the time is so nice!
I'm also gonna try my luck again and recommend LiSA performing with Kalafina and covering their song Kagayaku Sora No Shijim wa ni wa, it was so different for her and I'd love to have a pro's opinion on that! 😊

This is not a slight towards the group. It's par for the course with this kind of music and dance. Their style is not about their ability to sing live. Great live singers (let's say Adele) do not dance.

They are still good live by the way, still very energetic and charismatic. It's just that the cristal clear vocals are gone as expected. People need to know that. This first take vid right here is clearly just the recording of the studio version, which is always by far the best version of anything. Singing and dancing live is insanely hard.

The song is about the mixed feelings of a girl / young woman when she realises for the first time that she became a sexual being for men. While she still dreams of friendship and romantic love, men stare at her bottom, breast and mouth (watch Suzuka's gestures). Therefore the title "adult blues", i.e. "blues while becoming an adult".

Maybe they don't sing much on TikTok but they are a regular singing group with two albums, two EPs, and several singles. They have been around awhile, they formed in 2015 but they seem to have really taken off the last two years or so. Suzuka has an interesting voice, pretty far from the usual high-pitched idol voice.

SAUR happy Atarshii Gakko is getting more attention, i watched one of their youtube videos like four months ago and i was easily obsessed. You should absolutely watch some of their live shows (they have many) and MVs, they also have some genuinely good songs in their music bank too! Toumei Girl is my personal favorite! Mizyu is also the oldest of the group lol

Please watch more Atarashii Gakko videos and then re-review the groups vocal performances. Your first review appears somewhat premature. Perhaps some live videos will help provide a better understanding of their unique vocal style. There is a distinctly Japanese flavor to them both melodically and dynamically.
