Of all the people I could imagine CD collabing with, "teen jpop band" was a surprise, but a very entertaining one. This style of collab is an absolute delight to watch!
Making the Captain dance with them in the end was both heartwarming and so hilarious to see. The amount of work gone into this by the group and CD, interns and help from Discord is mind boggling to the extreme. Saying well done doesn’t feel like it gives enough gravitas to how I’m feeling in this moment, but it still needs to be said: Well. Done.
As I was watching I was thinking "these are really cool effects that must have taken a long time to make" followed by "and the effects used to illustrate making the effects must have also taken a long time to make!!" Typical Captain Disillusion. Absolutely stunning video that just blows everyone away!
Every time I go, "man, I haven't seen a new Captain Disillusion video in a while," I know that something amazing must be on its way... You never fail to blow my mind with going 11 steps beyond!
Captain D had some great tongue in cheek humor about how long this stuff actually took him, but I still think he's way underselling it. To do this with such a small crew is an absolutely monumental feat that can not be overstated. Captain... DO YOU SLEEP?!
As someone just learning After Effects, I took 2 WEEKS to animate and render effects on a single 20 second video. I can imagine Captain D taking months making this stuff, even with full equipment and interns at his disposal.
This is easily the best "making of" video that's ever been made. It's a really great format for Captain D to show off his high technical skills but also his very enjoyable presentation skills. Also the band is very charismatic and it looks like they are having a lot of fun with the big D. I hadn't heard of Atarashii Gakko before, they are a solid pop group.
I found this channel because of them. Glad I did. They area really great band. Music they make (which they write themselves) can range from eletronic pop/funk to classic rock/punk. Add to that their dance moves being insane and entertaining...
Listen Google... this is literally the most dedicated quality channel you have. Every upload is a killer. Every frame is a painting. Can you do something about your shitty algorithm to push this channel to the spotlight it deserves? All I can do is scribble a few lines and "increase interaction" with it to praise its quality. Thank you for everything, my Captain! May your passion never run out!!
@@soundscape26 When I found this channel I binge watched all of his content cuz it was just so entertaining... Maybe that's why UA-cam should recommend it (definitely makes them money tho)
Seriously, you couldn't have done a better collab with anyone else. Atarashii Gakko is so full of energy and spontaneity. A perfect fit for the creativity involved in VFX.
I am an artist, a game/film 3D artist... Films, movies, music videos, games, these kind of projects are being done by not just 1 country... its collaborated by artists all around the world. its a diversity of people, all kinds of people gets together to do "something creative". Its amazing how these kind of things gets unnoticed by media strongly preaching for "Diversity". I was once worked for a project where I am being told what to do by a 15year old boy from Thailand. 🤣 and he is amazing at his work
The ending performance had me crying with laughter. The entire thing was beautiful, and the way months of work was summed up into minutes filled me with a sense of appreciation I haven't had for a music video in a long time.
CD's technical competency is just incredible. It's amazing how easy he makes this stuff look. And Atarashii Gakko are clearly such dedicated and passionate performers. Not the kind of music I'm familiar with but I can appreciate talent and passion when I see it. Amazing video!
Incredible. I almost get a headache just trying to figure out how many layers of production I'm even watching. You made 3 music videos in different styles, but then you also filmed the filming of the music videos and then used more visual effects to explain the visual effects, and put that all in the same video... this must've taken forever.
This video is a masterpiece. The narrative, the breakdown when making the videos, the humour and the visual gags and the actual completed videos... everything's great.
I feel like he thinks he has to top his previous video every time. Nobody asked him to, but the fact that it takes longer means that we appreciate it even more. Keep it up Captain D! Take as long as you want to upload.
Wonderful. You are a true artist. And by that I mean you constantly overburden yourself with demands of higher quality in a quest for a perfect vision that only you can truly apprehend and work tirelessly until you have driven yourself and e everyone around you slightly mad. The anime ending is so fucking awesome.
I'm genuinely curious how this collaboration happened, like who contacted who first? I have a hard time imagining Captain Disillusion messaging a Japanese school girl Jpop group and have an even harder time imagining a Japanese school girl Jpop group messaging Captain Disillusion.
Knowing the rigidity of Japanese labels, probably AG contacted him first. Or more accurately whatever marketing company that AG’s label was hired did. I think at the end of the day this is more about trying to organically market to western audiences using a large creator that accomplishes something they wanted to do anyway (create MV’s) while still remaining unoffensive to the core Japanese audience.
@@Mira0020 Them meeting at Comicon doesnt make sense. This video probably took MONTHS to make, which basically explained why Cap hasn't been uploading anything for a while.
This is amazing on so many levels. The complexity of the work. The amount oof time the girls spent doing these videos (perhaps a few months?). And CD’s amazing knowledge of the Jpop scene 👍
I know everyone says this but your effort is literally unmatched. You go the extra mile with EVERYTHING. The editing of this video alone is incredible and would take a long time, yet alone the 3 masterpieces of music videos you made and all the insane work that comes with those. I'm sure you already know this but the insane and extra amount of effort you put into EVERY part of your creative process never goes unnoticed and unappreciated. Truly an inspiration to the world of content creation :)
Just wanna say the familiar set and intro "greetings children" is still so great and comforting. Also love the snarky humor as always like the unavailable clips.
"Best Captain Disillusion Video Ever" is a high bar to set, yet this clears it by a mile. Just brilliant. What we really need now is a video about how this collaboration ever came to be.
this is sad, so much effort, when 15% of this +75% more sarcasm would have been much simpler to make and sooo much more satisfactory to enjoy. Don't misunderstand, this had the wow factor, but won't be coming back to re-watch it as I use to do with all the old CD content, cause they had value in the writing and the actibg performance. CG is only the topping, it never was the cake itself... can't you guys see?
Its so much more than we could notice, like in the final dance number Captain D didn't just paint his face and legs, but at least his wrists and belly for every time he reached up. Even if that was done digitally after it is still nice attention to detail!
If there's one thing i've learned over the years it's that, if the work is not hard enough on it's own, planning and capturing the behind the scenes on top of it is killerrrrr. Insanely great job Cap
Oh my. Thanks! What a coincidence - I recently discovered and binged a ton of your awesome videos. (And now I'm feeling a bit self-conscious about my amateur attempts at scoring some parts of this vid.)
@@CaptainDisillusion I've been following your work for so long and have modeled my work after yours in many ways. Also, you are always nailing the sound design and music in my opinion! Nonetheless I would love to contribute music or anything else to a video of yours if you ever want!

I see why we had to wait so long, this was a hell of a lot of work… especially with those ‘you’re always learning’ type moments. Apart from this video going gang-busters I hope the dual purpose of raising the girls profile in the west also happens. They seem like a great group with delightfully appropriate school girl outfits that I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable watching in a music video with my nieces.
CD *actually* doing real visual effects work for a band. Personally I can't wait to see the videos, and this vid also introduced me to Atarashi Gakko and made me quite interested in their music. They're incredibly energetic.
I had no idea the project was this large omg. Outstanding work captain and team! Loved all the jokes about how long this would've taken and also yay a new group to support! ❤

I've discovered Atarashii Gakoo for about ... a couple of years now? and they are one of the most unique J-pop group out there I don't think anyone could've reasonably guessed that this collab is going to happen. Hearing Captain D referencing famous J-pop acts like Perfume or Pamyu and anime song like Easy Breezy is definitely quite a trip and a half
Captain Disillusion's videos are essentially like feature length films, could only imagine what a feature length film from this team would be like, great job captain D!
Man these videos are inspiring - every once in a while I try to do a weird gag in a video where I’ll go so far as to clone myself - without moving the camera - or something else of that “simple 2d compositing” level. It’s simple, it takes a LONG time by my editing standards, but it’s not even in the same world as this. Watching the World’s Greatest Blenderer do his thing is just astonishing. There are so many cool things you can do with video! Edit: I also really appreciate that the time was taken to don a costume while the OTHER filming for the music videos was taking place. I didn’t realize this until hours later because CD is always CD
Really enjoyed your sprinter in the fizeau apparatus video! Well done :) Also thank you in general for your great videos and also showing what didn't work! And congrats on the Phd. Love your stuff! ❤️
@@Bl4dz lol that one was fun - if I remember right I actually wrote a bit of matlab to do the stack. That said, it wasn’t a terribly accurate picture of what you’d see with a light speed runner - you’d see nothing, then all the frames at once as the light reaches you like a sonic boom, then nothing again. I took a bit of artistic license 😁
@@AlphaPhoenixChannel omg, a response, I'm fangirling a little :) sprinter at the start stationary, then appearing at the finish line with a short flash would have confused me more than your depiction, even though it would have been more accurate :) that being said, a video about some common misconceptions around what you'd see moving with or seing someone move with the speed of light would be amazing. And of course showing what it would actually look like ;) maybe CD can help on this part ;)
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how the captain takes the time to paint half his head to fit in better with us humans. The hair and eyes look so natural.
I can't even wrap my head around the INSANE amount of effort that goes into all this stuff. I really hope CD can take a vacation soon, cuz he's MORE than earned it. We'll be alright, Cap. The re-watch value on your videos is very high!
I mean, not for nothing, he does like 4 videos per year. That's not a knock on him, but usually people say UA-camrs -- including the creators themselves -- need a break after making two videos per week for years. I'm sure he has a lot going on besides yt that we don't even know about, so there's that...
I think this is my favorite Captain Disillusion video. I like the relationship he has with the young ladies. They're all clearly having tons of fun. I also like the end results of the music videos.
I love that thing where there's a Collab of people who speak different languages but through the magic of editing and subtitles the conversation just flows as if both people are hearing the other person talk in their own language
@@ForcefulDragon Quite unnecessary since his audience speaks English for the most part. It would also be extremely distracting from the video to anyone who doesn't speak it
I love that this video’s format is a “reverse debunk” where he explains the behind the scenes process of how they collaborated to create each of the music videos, then the final result is shown. Whenever I watch an explanation of how a visual effect was done, I cannot help but marvel at the hours upon days upon weeks it must have taken to storyboard, write, record, edit, and revise each explainer video scene with the screen capturing and filming of the filming process and the visual effects required to explain the visual effects! This is why I’m proud to support the Captain on Patreon because I believe he deserves my support for the high quality content he produces. Bravo!
And let’s not forget, on top of all the crazy stuff done for the AG music videos, he also, like, recreated the Virtual Insanity music video in blender to show how it was done. Because of course he did.
I love it when people precisely point out where they got the inspiration for making a specific piece of art. It's not only very open and honest, but it also gives great insight into the creative process. Thanks, D!
The fact that one person edited these things in one human lifetime is amazing. I don't even know much about this line of work and I could tell it was more work than most of us do in a year!
The other detail I noticed was that the details on the screen were fading except "AG!" which was how the girls were referred to as for the rest of the video
This is the only channel my 7yr old watches. He is so amazed by the 'magic' you make. He has been using my old GoPro hero 6, and we have made some pretty cool (super jank) stuff. But it is amazing to hear how creative he is because the things he says are amazing, but my skill is lacking so I try my best. I am excited for the day he can run circles around me in visual effects, probably won't be long.
I've been following this group since close to when they started, and CD for probably over ten years. I would never in a million years have thought I'd see them together in any shape or form
I'm glad I'm in the timeline where Captain Disillusion becomes an honorary member of Atarashii Gakou. Thank you for the video Captain! Always looking forward to the stuff you do next.
I sure hope Corridor “reacts” to this even though you’re already explained everything! Captain you’re insane!lots of funny lines in there too. Massive kudos :)

Captain D had some great tongue in cheek humor about how long this stuff actually took him, but I still think he's way underselling it. To do this with such a small crew is an absolutely monumental feat that can not be overstated. Captain... DO YOU SLEEP?!
Captain doesn't need to sleep. Alan the Intern, on the other hand, needs
As someone just learning After Effects, I took 2 WEEKS to animate and render effects on a single 20 second video. I can imagine Captain D taking months making this stuff, even with full equipment and interns at his disposal.
It's mindboggling, even for his little throwaway jokes, and stuff, that takes hours and hours.
_the big D_ ... broski!
same, hadn't heard of them before, but love at first sight x)
What ever, if he danced with a skirt in could had been funnier
Fujii kaze is one of the best jpop as well because he has a very unique style
I found this channel because of them. Glad I did. They area really great band. Music they make (which they write themselves) can range from eletronic pop/funk to classic rock/punk. Add to that their dance moves being insane and entertaining...
PHRASING!!!!
Captain's videos are great, but a channel that uploads twice a year won't make UA-cam a ton of money so there's no reason for them to push it.
@@soundscape26 When I found this channel I binge watched all of his content cuz it was just so entertaining... Maybe that's why UA-cam should recommend it (definitely makes them money tho)
Patreon is working out for him, it seems to be a decent avenue for high effort stuff like his
Dude literally made 3 full ass big company level music videos for just 1 20 minute video. That is some extreme quality over quantity thing
I fully agree, but "Every frame is a painting" is already a channel :) Damn good one too! Too bad they finished creating videos.
Seriously, you couldn't have done a better collab with anyone else. Atarashii Gakko is so full of energy and spontaneity. A perfect fit for the creativity involved in VFX.
Now we finally know where you've been. That must have taken forever. Highest production value video I've ever seen on UA-cam.
NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT %100

The calendar in the "production schedule" gag shows December of 2021. Yikes.
I'm very excited for the annual Captain Disillusion video!

I love how not only did CD tell us how the effects are done, he made more VFX to show us how the VFX work
That’s what I LOOOVVEE about CD!
Yes, I believe some of the VFX he makes to explain us how the original VFX works is even far more complex than the original...
Dnt forget the dance
I swear I've seen Jamiroquai referenced more by the Japanese than anyone else. They just can't get enough of it.
I don’t understand how this collab happened but as someone who loves the work both of y’all do, this was a masterpiece.
🤣 and he is amazing at his work
@@pr0x1madigital weird flex, but okay.
When I saw Atarashi Gakko I just thought I was tripping
Also noticed Ami Yamato in the credits so the collab was between 3 UA-camrs
'Captain D collabed with Atarashii Gakkou' was a phrase I never thought I'd hear.
Your jab at music copyright claims had me rolling at the beginning. 😂
I ugly laughed at the chilling effect comment
the Hollywood chamber of commerce one had me rolling
Didn’t expect them
Your channel's pretty good too btw, I enjoy the scambusting a lot
The ending performance had me crying with laughter. The entire thing was beautiful, and the way months of work was summed up into minutes filled me with a sense of appreciation I haven't had for a music video in a long time.
There's never been a UA-cam video that deserved a like more than this one. What an incredible amount of work you guys put into this. So well done.
CD's technical competency is just incredible. It's amazing how easy he makes this stuff look. And Atarashii Gakko are clearly such dedicated and passionate performers. Not the kind of music I'm familiar with but I can appreciate talent and passion when I see it. Amazing video!
Yeah I would spends months overshadowing him to learn it
He makes it sound so easy that he makes a point to show how complex it is through intricately edited background information XD. I love it
Incredible. I almost get a headache just trying to figure out how many layers of production I'm even watching. You made 3 music videos in different styles, but then you also filmed the filming of the music videos and then used more visual effects to explain the visual effects, and put that all in the same video... this must've taken forever.
yeah jfc, insane amount of work
He's probably just using some AI to do all this work and he's receiving all the credit, that's very sad...
@@Reth_Hard ai are still stuck on the turing test let's not get ahead of ourselves here
@@SmokeyEdits it's a joke.
Wait. Am I replying to AI generated comments?

This video is a masterpiece. The narrative, the breakdown when making the videos, the humour and the visual gags and the actual completed videos... everything's great.
We don't get to see Captain upload as often as before, but the production quality on these videos are so high you can't even be mad.
I feel its almost illegal to watch this without paying , God damn captain this is next level.
This is the weirdest and unexpected colab I have ever seen. But very welcome!

@Don't Read My Profile Photo ok i wont :)

I'm genuinely curious how this collaboration happened, like who contacted who first? I have a hard time imagining Captain Disillusion messaging a Japanese school girl Jpop group and have an even harder time imagining a Japanese school girl Jpop group messaging Captain Disillusion.
Maybe they met at the Comicon? Atarashii Gakko is in LA right now.
Or maybe 88rising, the group's label for international promotions?
Knowing the rigidity of Japanese labels, probably AG contacted him first. Or more accurately whatever marketing company that AG’s label was hired did.
I think at the end of the day this is more about trying to organically market to western audiences using a large creator that accomplishes something they wanted to do anyway (create MV’s) while still remaining unoffensive to the core Japanese audience.
Their label, 88rising, is an American company
🫦
literally
Just wanna say the familiar set and intro "greetings children" is still so great and comforting. Also love the snarky humor as always like the unavailable clips.
"Best Captain Disillusion Video Ever" is a high bar to set, yet this clears it by a mile. Just brilliant. What we really need now is a video about how this collaboration ever came to be.
Flight Of The Navigator is close to this vid, but I agree.
agreed!! I definitely wonder whose strangely genius idea this collab was
@@jrdkleinman maybe Alan the intern?
Beakman is quite a summit regarding general enlighting, but this plays in the same ballpark explaining the tech.
This is a great collab. The AG girls have such a unique presence and great humor in everything they do

This would 100% be my... number two.

Man, the amount of effort that must have gotten into this is astounding. Well done, captain.
It's astounding how much effort went into doing "fun visual effects experiments" without completing and releasing completed music videos in the end
this is sad, so much effort, when 15% of this +75% more sarcasm would have been much simpler to make and sooo much more satisfactory to enjoy. Don't misunderstand, this had the wow factor, but won't be coming back to re-watch it as I use to do with all the old CD content, cause they had value in the writing and the actibg performance. CG is only the topping, it never was the cake itself... can't you guys see?
Bet the interns did all the work
The mind-blowing effort you put into each upload is recognized and appreciated
I agree. And the same to you, Captain Overwerk.
Its so much more than we could notice, like in the final dance number Captain D didn't just paint his face and legs, but at least his wrists and belly for every time he reached up. Even if that was done digitally after it is still nice attention to detail!
Love your music! Good to see you here in thjs comment section as well :) CD is truly loved by everyone
The definition of quality over quantity
I wonder what canon would look like if the captain got to make a video for it
I didn't know Captain Disillusion was so cultured! I definitely need to add this band to the list xD
If there's one thing i've learned over the years it's that, if the work is not hard enough on it's own, planning and capturing the behind the scenes on top of it is killerrrrr. Insanely great job Cap

新しく作られたMVのクオリティが高くて感動しました❤
I see why we had to wait so long, this was a hell of a lot of work… especially with those ‘you’re always learning’ type moments. Apart from this video going gang-busters I hope the dual purpose of raising the girls profile in the west also happens. They seem like a great group with delightfully appropriate school girl outfits that I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable watching in a music video with my nieces.
ATARASHII GAKKO are really really good, they had a pretty strong western debut with NAINAINAI
CD *actually* doing real visual effects work for a band. Personally I can't wait to see the videos, and this vid also introduced me to Atarashi Gakko and made me quite interested in their music. They're incredibly energetic.
The Captain could premier a 10 minute video of him just staring at the camera and I would still be excited.

Lol why?
It would still include more attention to detail and impeccable production quality to justify months between uploads.
I had no idea the project was this large omg. Outstanding work captain and team!
Loved all the jokes about how long this would've taken and also yay a new group to support! ❤

I've discovered Atarashii Gakoo for about ... a couple of years now? and they are one of the most unique J-pop group out there
I don't think anyone could've reasonably guessed that this collab is going to happen. Hearing Captain D referencing famous J-pop acts like Perfume or Pamyu and anime song like Easy Breezy is definitely quite a trip and a half
Fujii kaze is the best jpop, because it’s not stereotypical jpop and is his music is amazing
Most def.
88 Rising is legit
I feel like Gakkou probably fed him those references lol
I feel this brother. Same here! You gotta start somewhere 😃
Really enjoyed your sprinter in the fizeau apparatus video! Well done :)
Also thank you in general for your great videos and also showing what didn't work! And congrats on the Phd. Love your stuff! ❤️
@@Bl4dz lol that one was fun - if I remember right I actually wrote a bit of matlab to do the stack.
Love your channel bro!
Thank you Captain Disillusion for introducing me to Atarshi Gakko!

@@ForcefulDragon 100% yes
If they did the interaction with subtitles trope that wouldve been funny
They speak English too lol
