Affordable IKEA Products That Look HIGH END

- In this video, I cover my favorite affordable IKEA products that look high end! I really wanted to focus this list on items that look expensive and don't scream "I'm from IKEA!" For this reason I really tried to get away from products that you see a lot of already. So no Lack tables, Kallax units and Billy bookcases on this list (not because I don't like them!) but because I wanted to focus on items that are special and are great dupes for higher end retailers like CB2, West Elm and Design Within Reach. I really tried hard to find the IKEA products that were cheap, but looked expensive. 😉

Such great tips! And I have to say that it's nice seeing someone who doesn't speak Swedish not mocking the names of the IKEA products.. You try to pronounce it and you leave it at that. Many people mock the names, that we use åäö but you don't, very respectful thank you for that! :)
Thanks! I know I’m probably horrible, but you just have to try your best!
I love Swedish names: I'm sure people don't have the serious intention to mock your language, it's only unfamiliar to most of them.
True! I agree ☺️
Turbonilla: I don't think anyone wants to be mean about it but it's like people trying to speak Chinese and just saying ping-pong-dong or some other stupid stuff.. I seen so many videos of people making puns at ikea with the names. Wouldn't it be more fun and cool to maybe Google the words? See what the meaning of them is instead of just making puns.. We are proud of our language and moste of the IKEA names are beautiful words or they have meaning to them 😊😊 many of people in the US have family from here and they especially should be more graceful towards our language :) :)
@@Nick_Lewis you don't do bad at all :)
You had me at "Okay so now we have arrived at the rattan section of the video" 😂 love it!
Give this man a show on HGTV stat
no, we need him here!
I agree! He has very good taste in interior design lol
Heck yea! He’s got HGTV swag 😆
Absolutely!
Nooooo, all I have is UA-cam.... I even allow adverts in appreciation 😄
The magazine stand cute look cute holding towels in the bathroom as well.
I think the rattan magazine holder could also double as a really cute rolled blanket holder
Whenever you recommend something I already own I feel like I'm winning at life 😂
@Mack Ramon don’t fall for this
Half the reason I watch design vids tbh
Don't you have friends and family to affirm you?
Does seem kind of dd to feel affirmed if someone mentions something you have from IKEA in their videos. My husband and I were at the opening of the first IKEA in Philadelphia in the mid-1980s. Hell I guess we were trendy and we didn't even know it. Ha ha
Me with the hangers!
I really like how you speak. You are so clear and concise and the content rolls along fast. Thank you! That was a lot of content in a short video. Plus, Ikea with a toddler is painful, so if I know what I’m looking for based on your ideas that’s helpful!!
I use the Buskbo magazine rack for vinyl records; it looks great and you can fit a lot of them on it!
stealing that!
It's great for firewood too
Don't throw out your hangers! Many places, including your dry cleaner, will take them! Some examples: Goodwill/Salvation Army, Shelters, etc.
Also, just found your channel. I'm OBSESSED. Thank you for such great info!
Yes!! Give them away on Facebook !I am part of a Buy Nothing Sell Nothing group and everyone always needs hangers!
I just threw out the wood hangers for slim wire hangers.
Our minor league baseball team has a booster club and each year the new players need hangars. Many of them are arriving with hardly any personal possessions.
I would also take the hangers, we never have enough 😂
@@jellybean1528 I had so much that I took some to the hotel I stayed (and forgot them there on purpose) because they only had 3 hangers in the wardrobe.
Alseda was my cat's favorite scratching post, or pouf, or whatever, that I ever bought her. It lasted a surprisingly long time under her regular attacks. I was cleaning up bits of it every day for about 3 years!
Nick, thank u for translating into sq meters. Wish u nice xmas and many greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
You are welcome! I love Germany! 🇩🇪
Rule of thumb
10 square feet are 1 square meter APPROXIMATELY. Best.
I’m new to your channel, but am loving everything you create. I appreciate that you are giving us real information with your designer insight. It’s clear you have a good eye for design, but can communicate your ideas in a way a consumer can understand. In short, I feel like you are giving us design consultation for free. Thank you!
I've just found your channel and LOVE how organized everything is. Your personality is just a breath of fresh air. xxx
Another vegan option for the Rens is the ALMTJÄRN. I'm using this in white as my tree skirt right now. For some reason they don't mark it as one of their "green" products, however, rug pile is made of 90% recycled water bottles. It is amazingly soft! After Christmas, the bath matts will become rugs next to the bed. Having that wonderfully soft texture when getting out of bed is just lovely. The ALMTJÄRN has a lux look and feel for a bath matt. ;-) It's around $17.
Great tip! I never thought to use a bath mat as a tree skirt! Genius!
I am a new subscriber who has worked at IKEA for 29 years. I can’t stop watching your videos. It’s interesting to see your opinion on our range. I love how passionate you are about design while still encouraging others to do what they like.
Being born in IKEA land and having grown up with it and seeing it grow as it has as well, I love when people understand that it is not only cheap and tacky but some really nice things in there as well. The furniture is well worth the money and you can really make your home look nice and even luxurious if you wish. Hmmmm... now I need to go and have a little look online I think 😊😁
PS: I LOVE and appreciate so much that you have broken down the video so I can scroll between sections (not sure what that's called but I hope that makes sense)
Time stamps maybe
YES!!!
It’s called chapters here on youtube ❤️
I own the matte black cutlery from IKEA and I LOVE them! I was worried about the colour chipping or leaking in the dishwasher, but they held up for the 8 months I’ve owned them, Highly recommend!
I have the velvet cushion covers and love them! I love them more than my itchy Pottery Barn cushion covers. They’re so soft, great quality and so affordable.
Me too they are made of cotton which I prefer over polyester.
It will be amazing if they will have them in a bigger selection of colors like different shades of grey and braun 😍
I appreciate how self aware you are and your attention to detail regarding your audience and I enjoy the straightforwardness and humor :D
Wow! Now that is a hidden IKEA treasure video. You are also a treasure Nick! Glad I found your channel. Thanks for the great ideas.
Thanks so much Nancy! I tried to touch on the really interesting pieces.
The green velvet curtain and the curtain rod brought me right back to that episode of the Carole Brunette Show.
I love the idea of using the faux fur as a tree skirt.
Nick, I'm a new subscriber and LOVE your channel! I feel like I'm in a really beautiful yet highly practical interior design school. I'm so thankful that you are sharing your knowledge and that I found you. 👍🏻💗
So sweet thank you!
Funny! I had the same thoughts and just posted a similar comment. So happy to have found Nick!
I like your taste in items, just can't get into the rattan, had so much growing up (70s) and it really did not last or wear well.
And you can buy it for $1 at the thrift stores. .25 at yard sales😄
I loved the plant ladder so much I took a picture and ran down to the local Hardware store, got similar wood and called friends with tools and got the same look of the Ikea ladder only its 7 feet tall. I love shopping there even if I don't end up getting anything! The ideas are fabulous, affordable and you get a great walking workout, I wish they would start selling their *small homes* there too!
I just moved in my first appartment in France and I binge watched your Ikea videos sooo much
Also, a note on the Alseda: these things make the BEST cat furniture you could find for this price point. My dad and stepmom got two of these for their house full of cats (they do foster and rescue) and they have held up as cat beds/ the primary scratching posts for well over a year now with no sign of damage at all, as far as I can tell. The cats all love these things, and between this slightly unbelievable fiber rope they're covered in that seems impervious to cat attacks and the sturdy wireframe, I don't think I've ever in my life been more impressed with a $30 Ikea thing. And unlike other cat furniture, these look good and can be used by people, too. I swear I don't work for Ikea or anything, I'm just honestly so blown away that they've held up so freaking well against so much wear and tear even though they were so cheap. When my stepmom got them we were joking like "well, even if they only hold up a few months maybe we can find a use for the frame or make new covers for them." So worth the money, especially if you have cats.
I am so into IKEA and i cant wait to go there when its allowed again :) Click & collect has definitely not the same good vibes like going through the isles upstairs and downstairs, taking a Snack inbetween, getting inspired on details, buying completely different things than expected and suddenly u spend the whole day at IKEA ^^ and then there is putting together the puzzle. My favourite part of these days^^
Magazine holders make great places for your kitty cats to curl up in two. You can fit a nice 12 pound cat in there and it looks adorable.
Great job Nick Lewis!! I agree with your opinions and style ideas and really appreciate your honest but sensitive way of conveying your thoughts!! kudos to you.
Love how you say the swedish words, so cute 🥰 /a swed
Oh how I love that you mentioned crappy v wooden hangers. I've had wooden hangers for many years now and love them.
Omg the clothes hangers! It's so true and I only started using when decluttering. It has such a better vibe now seeing in wardrobe.
Omg I love the chair comparison you made wiith DWR! I didn’t even realize ikea had such similar chair! I sometimes source from Ikea (depending on the clients budget) so I Loved this video!
Right?!I mean I know they aren't always direct comparisons, but these chairs are a great alternative for less than half the price.
Liked all your suggestions. They were very high end looking! I love BOHO, Scandinavian look. That tile is very beautiful.
Loved this so much! You're to the point and no bs, with great tips!
Hi Nick, so glad I found your posts. I love your tips and find them so useful and easy to apply. You have become my "personal" designer!
Here for this video! Resigning my entire bedroom and home ☺️ I find it’s really amazing to compare prices and work in some thrifted things with more mainstream stuff like ikea and target to make it look more chic!
Absolutely fantastic video Nick. Love your choice of products , love your delivery you are a real star. By the way greetings from Ireland.
Thanks Vera! I would love to go to Ireland! 🇮🇪
Hi Nick, discovered your channel recently and I love your content! As part of a recent basement/family room renovation, we furnished the space in a light/warm Scandi style. The Snidad and Lauters found their way home with us from a recent Ikea trip and they’re great pieces to add to the Scandi vibe in the space. Your other product recommendations are also great! I also think the Ikea PS metal cabinet can add a great style element at a really nice price point and is a durable piece with simple lines that can fit many styles.
I'm new to your channel but I have learned so much already. I've heard of IKEA but I had no idea that they had so many products! Like you, I love things that do double duty and the IKEA things are serious solutions. Thank you for the information!
just found your channel! thanks so much for making interior design more accessible/less pretentious :) always happy to see affordable options for furnishing my college house!
This is awesome! As a busy mom of 5 that literally has no time to shop and with our ikea over an hour away I love this content. You got a new sub here!
i so so agree with the skandinavian style and especially the wood hangers
great content Nick
thanks
Great video. I would also add the Vilborg curtains. We have used the beige ones in multiple rooms in multiple homes and I can't quit them. They always look far more expensive than they are, and now they've expanded their color range.
These are some great finds- especially the pillow cases and curtains. Thanks!
Us Aussies love metric system too 😊
True! In Canada we are a weird hybrid. Technically metric, but influenced by the US.
Love your input and the speed with which you deliver! ❤️
Wow, I love your Senela ideas of seasonal swapping. Great idea
Got my misterhult lamp a month ago after waiting for it to come in stock for about 6 months. Absolutely love it. Thanks for the tip!
This is so great, thank you! I'd love to know more about texturising a space; a how to would be really helpful. Loving your channel, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us :) Currenlty redecorating so this is all so great!
I saw things from your perspective. Thank you. I learned something and fell in love with the rattan chairs.
Oh man: on my 5 th video and now ordered from IKEA and redecorating my NY apt...love your approach and elements pulled.
Lovely video full of IKEA products I hadn’t noticed before. Thanks. Also, I love IKEA’s Lohals jute rug which is timeless.
YES! I that rug almost made the list! I love it!
Love love love to listen to you! You give so many great advices with a lot of humour!!!
Greetings from Finland! You make such good videos, happy I found your channel ☺️ so nice that you featured many items that I have at home from ikea 😂 they really do look high end! I have a big white sheep skin on my buskbo armchair, works so well 👍
10:02 - Bumerang Wood Clothes Hangers
11:06 - Rens Sheepskin Throw
12:28 - Satsumas Mid-Century Planters
are those that I considered purchasing too! It's a pity that these items don't fit my current place, but Maybe I will do it later in my new home.
02:55 - Buskbo Rattan Chair, Plant Stands and Magazine Rack
looks interesting too!
Great picks! Definitely will be checking out the flatware and pillow covers 💕
Wow! Great video to highlight some of the more designer-type items at IKEA! I really appreciated this video because IKEA is sooo big with soooo many items, it’s oftentimes overwhelming. I also appreciated the price comparisons for those of us who are on a limited budget. Thank you 😘
Glad it was helpful! Yeah it is totally overwhelming which is why people so often stick to the big hits like malm and besta. Which are great, but sometimes you want different!
@@Nick_Lewis I
NICK! Love your videos!!! Please do one on lighting!
I just found your channel and I love it already!! Thank you so much for posting these... great advice!!
Superb taste . 👌🏼 When lockdown ends , I’m off to the shops . In the meantime, I’ll travel through the internet . These ideas are totally wonderful. ❤️
This is so great!! You’re so right these funds don’t scream “ikea” at all. (And you are everyone when you’re like “I have no idea how to say that” ain’t it the truth!)
The rattan pendant is gorgeous, and I know they are super fashionable right now, but to me they just scream "dusting nightmare" so I will admire them anywhere not in my own home. Great video, Nick
Love love love the rattan furniture.
Great video! When I saw the magazine rack I thought fireplace wood holder too. Thanks
Awesome idea!
We absolutely love the wood hangers we switched to all wood over the last couple of years.
Amazing video, thank you Nick for the quality work !
I love your videos. In this crazy times it's nice to some beautiful things.
I have been using my grandmother's silverware for decades, but am now really thinking about Tillagd flatware! Great product suggestions, Nick!
It's nice to change it up! Plus black looks sooo good too.
I found really nice sets on Amazon!!
Please do more of these! I love them.
Great quality content - I'm watching a lot of your videos! Thank you, Nick :)
I love that you call us “you farmhouse people” 😆😆. I appreciate the warmth of farmhouse, I do NOT like the chachkies and the clutter. I went nuts when we bought our house. I bought the signs and the clocks and the letters AND THE SIGNS (So 👏🏻 Many 👏🏻 Signs 👏🏻 HelloHobbyLobbyImLookingAtYou). Most of which are gone now (thank goodness). Now we go for a more minimal farmhouse-ish look with some of our unique travel items peppered in here and there as interesting conversational pieces. And we have backyard chickens-so we are allowed do some farmhouse! 😆😆
Love that I found you, love what you do Nick. Thank you so much! Yes, I would like a comparison of products at Pier1☺️
Love that floor lamp!
I own 4 of these banana leaf footrests. They're fantastic as extra seating or side tables. Children love them, too!
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you and Happy Holidays.
Glad you like them! Happy Holidays Judy!
I’m using the bumerang hangers in different colours for me and my teens - it means it’s easier to return laundry to the right room bc it’s colour coded in white, black, neutral wood.
Love this video!! Thank you Nick!
Love this! Would love to see you do Cost Plus World Market, kind of In the same realm!
I love the design of the Bjorksnas bedframe. Can't wait to decorate my first home
Great video. Thank you so much. The magazine rack I used to hold books ( interior design, architectural, or plants related.) 😉
You’ve got me.. the mention of bringing life into your space.. I said those words today and spent the majority of the rest of today Googling plant stands.. and your spot on they are triple the price at least and not even that nice unless you want to spend £200 .. Really love the perspective and options of just having a normal house with zero plan or thought gone into it , that just wants to bring a bit of outdooors in.. x
Thank you. Beautiful job. Appreciate your professional tips.⚘
I was looking at those tiles and now I feel like I will try them out! Thank you ❤
Loved this video.. so many cool ideas!
Just found you. I feel like I’ve been living under a rock - great ideas here in this video! Thank you for posting! ❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
Magazine racks are awesome, they make great towel holders. Great for kids color books.
These are exceptional ideas and tips . Thank you
Great video - Ikea can be overwhelming when I'm in the store because they have so much so this is very helpful. Thanks & happy holidays!
So glad to hear that I’m not the only one who thinks it’s overwhelming. I love ikea but I end up with a headache at the end of my visit every time
I love your post!! Thank you so much!!👌🥰
Fabulous bang for your buck! Thank you, Nick!
Great picks! Agree to all. Thanks for sharing.
Nick you are so helpful thank you
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! THANK YOU.🙏
Thanks for the recommendation of Alseda. Just got one for myself. It really fits in my living room space and style!!! Saw this in IKEA store before but didn’t paid enough attention and it went off my radar. Now that I moved, and it really fits my living room style!
Thanks for the great content! Can you please make a vid about interior doors and what wood veneer/color is trending, do's and don'ts? Thanks again!
Loved this! Such useful info, thank you 🙏🏼
Great video. Timed slots really helpful.
