  • Active duty army Sergeant 1st Class Elizabeth Marks won gold in the women’s 100m S6 backstroke in 1:19.57, breaking the world record by almost two seconds. Marks was injured while serving in the U.S. Army as a combat medic in Iraq. She started swimming in 2014 as part of her recovery and has represented the United States at two Paralympic Games. In one of the most poignant medal ceremonies of the Tokyo Games, Marks finally let her tears flow upon the playing of the U.S. national anthem.

@@kizito8888 this is the Paralympics if I’m not mistaken. Every athlete there is a role model to both the disabled and not. I never said you can’t respect who you please, I’m only asking why you specifically stated your respect for the person in second place over the one who came in first or any of the rest of the field? You stated she only has one arm and one leg as if that matters in this event where every athlete retains the use of only two limbs. Don’t be so defensive, no need to be cagey, I’m genuinely curious and meant no offense,

@@kizito8888 lol, ok. Nothing hurt my feelings, obviously. I just asked you a simple question. The lady who won did so with no legs, considering how much your legs contribute to your swimming speed, it’s more impressive IMO. Try swimming with one leg and one arm, like I have, and you’ll see it’s more powerful than using arms only, which is why I think the Chinese competitor held the record previously. But anyways, I just asked a question and got my answer, you wanted to be different and not comment on the winner because everyone else must have done that already, right? If I’m not wrong, then let’s end the conversation here because I sense your attitude is growing a little prickly for my taste
