So the function for the Mandelbrot set is x^2+c. All parts that are black are values that loop infinitely. Which means that if you have -1 and it’s apart of the set, it will eventually go back around to -1 after going through the function however many times. all parts that are white are parts that blow up to infinity. Which means that they don’t ever wrap back around to the original number and just keep going up higher and higher. Some have a gradient that show how fast they blow up to infinity.
