    I started a whole food plant based diet in 2020 too! So life changing. I really connect with the "freedom from food" feeling. I realized how addicted I was to processed food, and how I was never satiated. Health is wealth!

    Changing to WFPB was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life! I lost 55 lbs in 8 months and feel awesome. Sometimes dabble in vegetarian, but I definitely notice the health effect and come back to WFPB as the BEST lifestyle 💕

    Great video, you lost weight rather quickly, good for you🙂 it took me about a year to lose just over 20 pounds, but I am much older than you. It was a slow transition. At first I still ate some fat and fake meat burgers with fake store bought cheese which I loved but after really looking at the labels I was surprised at how much fat was in them. I think it is important to read labels and cook at home as much as possible. For some to start off might be good to count calories just to give them an idea of how much to eat then learn to listen to your hunger cues. That’s what worked for me anyways now I know more or less how much food I need to feel satisfied. Well that is my quick run down of my experience , I also do some type of exercise for at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. It is important to keep moving especially when you reach my age pushing 60🙃!

      I surprised myself at how quickly it came off too, it was so helpful for me because for once this wasn’t about my body looking a certain way or getting to a goal weight but for my solely for my health and feeling good inside. Im just so thankful to have found this lifestyle 😭 My mother in law is in her 60’s and she definitely has lost the pounds but much slower as well but she’s persevering! Thanks for sharing your experience! How long have you been on a plant based diet? 😊

      You are so correct about the plant based burgers! When I read the ingredient list on the Beyond brand burgers, I was astounded at the amount of fat. If we want to lose weight, we still need to watch fat, carbs and calories. I am in my early sixties. Losing weight at this age is a challenge! I’m at a place in my life where I want to feel good. Sure, I need to lose about 25 lbs. But I’m going to play the long game. It will come off eventually.

    Just my thoughts on carbs, oils etc. I don't personally agree with the whole sentiment of carbs being either good or bad for you, the same goes for oils and fats. There's healthy versions of both, and one can really boost their health and prevent deficiency by including at least some of the good stuff occasionally. Yes it makes sense to avoid processed carbs and oils, but it also makes sense to consume healthy unprocessed / minimally processed oils and fats such as extra virgin Olive Oil and Avocado. Consuming red wine and dark chocolate on occasion is also benefitable to ones health in many ways, but other forms of alcohol and chocolate are not so great. My point is, excluding whole "groups" or foods due to a few bad actors doesn't make sense to me, you just need to learn to pick and choose the right ones to consume.

      I definitely do think that overall it's what works for each individual person. For me, I have seen such wonderful benefits from going whole food plant based no oil, minimally processed foods. It's no longer difficult for me to eat this way, it's just the way I eat and it's easy. I do of course do have oil when eating out at restaurants, I have avocado, I have breads, and do enjoy treats now and then :) I'm realistic that no one can ever eat 100% perfectly not even me lol But at the time when I starting changing my day of eating and loosing the 40 pounds I did keep those treats and more processed foods entirely out because it was most helpful for me. People are free to adjust to what works for them. :)

    What is also super important to have in mind is not jumping into a plant based diet without getting to know the nutrients, where to find proteins and so on. 7 years ago, I was suffering from severe eating disorders (and was obsessed with calories) and jumped into this lifestyle because of all these videos praising this lifestyle for the absence of calorie-counting, without enough research and medical assistance. It didn't work out well: I lost weight, but I lost muscles. I think presenting a plant-based diet as a way to lose weight is dangerous, even if that's maybe not your prior intention with this video, especially for people who already have ED.

    Thanks for this video. I would love to hear how you got used to eatibg more veggies and eating without oil. Everyone tells us what to do...but no one tells us how you got through the initial stages where veggies Don't taste like anything. How long did it take to get used to eating this way? What helped? Any tricks? Any tips to make veggies taste good?

    • @sassysyl1284
      @sassysyl1284 3 роки тому +4

      Hi Tanya, I am going to chime in here, I hope you don’t mind. As for cooking veggies without oil a good option is to simply steam them then season with whatever you’d like or you can water or vegetable broth sauté . Spices are pretty important transitioning to this lifestyle. Also you can add a flavored balsamic they have a variety of flavors out there and you just need a little.
      At first for me it was hard partly because I rarely ate veggies but the more recipe’s I found the easier it became and now it is honestly just a breeze. Just experiment with what you like and take it from there before you know it you will have a few favorites under your belt. And keep it simple don’t add too many new recipes at once . This lifestyle is great and tasteful and it should be rather easy to follow once you find what you enjoy. Wishing you well.

      I just love how supportive you are to one another ❤️ I 100% agree, finding simple ways as you transition is key. If things are complicated it is def much harder to stick to. I love the tip of adding spices! They make food flavorful and and as for veggies just start with those you already enjoy and incorporate a few new things as time goes by and you will definitely develop new tastebuds for plant foods! 😆 it all comes in time and persistence 👍🏽 you got this!

    This was a great video. I know I heard you say that we could eat carbs I am assuming you meant Complex carbs not just all carbs right? I would love to hear your full story. I have been transitioning to a whole foods plant based way of eating. It can be hard and discouraging when you have family members who will not change with you but I just keep pushing forward regardless.

    • @JoywithPlants
      @JoywithPlants  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Norma! That is correct, complex carbs all natural plant foods 😊 I do eat seeded bread here and there along with pasta oh and tortillas LOL but not as often just because I’m left more satisfied with the actual potatoes, rice, beans, etc. 😊
      That is so encouraging to hear you are trying this lifestyle out, it can definitely be a challenge to not have family supporting you. My family was not fully on board or thought I’d actually commit to it but here I am over a year and going strong! You can totally do it and be a great influence on those around you! 🎉

      Norma, I am in the same boat, my hubby won’t transition to this lifestyle, I cringe every time he cooks with oil and eats cheese. But I am determined to just keep doing what I am doing and I have lost just over 20 pounds and exceeded my goal weight. Took awhile for that to happen but the fact that it did is good enough for me, stick with it hopefully our family will have a change of heart, someday…

    • @JoywithPlants

      Hi Maria, I actually did not exercise while losing weight, all I did was eat a filling and simple Whole Foods plant based diet and the weight seriously just came off on its own without restricting portions or calories. Weight loss was truthfully just a side effect of going plant based. I did have the energy though to go on walks maybe 3-4 times a week but nothing intense at all, just taking the puppies out on walks at their pace. I started off as a junk food vegan initially but it wasn't until I focused on whole plant foods that the weight loss took place which took 5 months to lose 40 pounds. And thank you! I think balance is really important, I really dislike making a plant based diet all about weight loss. I find it much more helpful to focus on health and let the weight loss be a perk of healthy living. That's what helped me stick with it!
