It's hilarious you thought it was driving music. The song just after Tom Sawyer on the record, Red Barchetta, is considered one of the best highway songs of all time.
By whom? I'd need to see a list.
I just come to say the same!!! Red fuckin Barchetta
Absolutely. It's one of my top 5 favorites of theirs. Great music and tells a story.
My favorite song by them
Red Barchetta! for sure!
Ahh Rush - that was a band on another level - seriously, those dudes packed serious musical firepower.
Rush is just a Hardrock band with an irrating squeaky mousy voiced typical Rock singer. Getty couldnt lick the creative boots of a Jon Anderson or Peter Gabriel. North American half-hearted so-called Prog that appeals to headbangers who lack the Pure Prog DNA. Pure Prog Euro creators of the genres are dimensions far out of their league. Rush are simply simply Heavy Rock that are occasionally embellished when they're not being straight out commercial. Calling them Prog is a huge stretch and an insult to all those imaginative genuine KINGS AND QUEENS OF THE GENRE
@@wendellwiggins3776 I'll trust the people from PROG magazine who put Rush in the prog category....
@@wendellwiggins3776 I can always tell the idiots that have only heard 3 Rush songs and think they know what they're talking about....
For 3 members too. Unbelievable.
They have such a unique sound, even today.
@@wendellwiggins3776 haters gotta hate - even if every one else loves this group!
Justin was thinking, " Damn, that dude on the drums is a bad motherfuker!". Lol.
Neil Peart.....the professor
@@cartwright77 #FACTS
Yeah I like a lot of other drummers but there's no denying Rush's drummer Neil Peart, my favorite of all time
"He knows changes aren't permanent, but change is." gets me every time.
How about "The world is love and life, fatties."?
@@RayfordRaySiegel = I thought it was "the world is lovin' lightin' fatties"
Thats real genuine truth.
Geddy Lee - Vocals, Alex Lifeson - Guitar and Neil Peart - Drums 🎸🇭🇲
Geddy Lee vocals, bass and keyboards
@@Winged1212 you forgot, "at the same time". 🎶👍🏻
Been following them for many years, back when others would look at me like "WTF?" Same look I got when listening to Steely Dan.
Neil Peart's motto: I've got all these drums, I better hit all of them...
Jason Remy only other drummers close to him John Bohnam not sure that’s spelled correctly and Ginger baker
Brother, you just heard the greatest drummer of all time, Neil Peart.
Marty Griffith with a big set, yes but I think John Bonham and Buddy Guy (who is probably the most influential drummer) are better with a regular kit
@@michaelsuder3956 Buddy Guy is a guitarist. Buddy Rich is considered the most influential drummer before rock.
Spamlet1 yea I realized that like a day after I typed it
Rick Allen (The Thunder God) of Def Leppard might have something to say about that. He’s got half as much as other drummers, only having one arm, and he goes at least as hard as other drummers.
Geddy Lee....vocals, bass, keyboards, foot pedals, .......yes and all at the same time.
This is back before you had to be cool to be noticed. Actual musical skill. Video killed the radio star. lol
Hell, unless the bands were on the cover of their albums we could go years and not even know what they looked like.
That was the point of Slipknot with their masks and numbers, a band of anonymous against the cult of the personality in pop music, but the plan backfired because their avatars became cool
Oriental Studios While not new by any means, Meatloaf is a perfect example.
@@fyodorkaramazov2136,
Do you think the Living Colour song had anything to do with what you and levyrat AR commented about?
@@brianl8481,
Another good example is the real Milli Vanilli, where those two guys were just the image of the music of the actual band.
Three of the best musicians of all time! All of them are true masters of their craft.
The lead singer is Geddy Lee. He's the bass player and keyboard player. Neil Peart on Drums and lyrics. Alex Lifeson on Guitars.
The best we have to offer in prog rock my fine Sir. Yes he came into the game with that hair!
Geddy is also one of the Gods of Rock Bass. All time!
Dude he is the God of Rock Bass lol
The best band ever - simple as that.
They are unmatched.
I'm lucky enough to have seen them live 32 times and they just got better and better each time.
If you're going to get into Rush - you need to prepare yourself for the ride of a lifetime !
Geddy Lee is the embodiment of "You don't have to be the best singer; you just have to MEAN it."
Best drummer!
That drumming is BONKERS! Even watching it, it doesn't seem possible.
For Niel It Isn't except its a pain in the shoulders
LaVillaStrangiato and even Subdivisions is crazy to watch.
😂 Long hair gives you the juice 😂
lolz, the guy who has the 1997 ludacris cornrows calling geddy lee harry potter. Up your game.
One thing this studio video doesn't really make you appreciate is that Geddy Lee sings and plays some of the most difficult bass lines ever simultaneously when they are live! He also has to work in the keyboards and foot pedals as well. So he basically does what normally takes three people to do.
Geddy Lee - lead singer, keyboardist, bassist and bass synth pedals. Neil Peart - drummer of the gods! And Alex Lifeson, providing ALL the guitars in spectacular fashion! You've been introduced to rock royalty! Peace!
You have listened to one of the best rock bands in the world
"No, his mind is not for rent~
to any God or government..."~RUSH
Some of the best lyrics ever...Do yourself the favor of Free Will...
"You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will"~RUSH
=)
This LP was epic...Rush was in my cassette player in my truck for almost every road trip I made back in the day. You also had to have AC/DC's Back in Black, Boston's first two LP's...and I was set to go!!!
Geddy Lee is the singer/bassist/keyboardist - his actual name is Gary however everyone has called him Geddy since he was a kid, when his grandmother would call him in for dinner, Gary sounded like Geddy with her accent.
Alex Lifeson is the guitarist
Neil Peart is the drummer also the main lyricist for Rush.
I heard that it was his mom, from some piece about Rush.
@@RayfordRaySiegel I heard grandmother, but ya never know. Different day, different story.
That's LeStudio where they recorded that album in Canada. In my opinion, the greatest band ever.
April Wine recorded " I like to Rock" at that same studio.
Search for "Le Studio" or "Studio Morin-Heights". The list of artists or bands who recorded there is truly a who's who of celebrities. From Cat Steven to Keith Richards. also The Police, Chicago, Rush, Bee Gees, Céline Dion, Nazareth, David Bowie, Bryan Adams, Asia, to name a few.
@@alainrobillard4300 And now there's not a building that survided that ERA on that great site by the lake. Was only 30 minutes away drive from where I live... So sad!!!
Getty Lee is fairly talented and not only sings but plays the base like a pro and his keyboards are great too. They all have great talent and timing. Many songs from Rush are keepers. The hair Getty has been growing off and on through his career.
Mr. Geddy Lee, vocals, keyboard and one of the greatest Bass players ever. listen to limelight next
Love the expression of a rush virgin
This drummer, Neal Peart, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s drummer, Artimus Pyle are two huge reasons why I began playing drums.
Artimus does not get NEARLY enough love.
Joe Day, no he doesn’t. He sounds like a freight train when he plays. He’s awesome.
Good for you! All the Rush haters are most likely not musicians. They are musician's musicians.
Neil Pert was on point with them drums.
RUSH and PINK FLOYD my favorite bands. And the Moody Blues❤️👍🏼💥
He came in this “game” with the long hair. Look at him in 1974. When Rush released their debut.
You NEED to see Rush live so you can see Geddy sing, play bass and keyboards all at the same time. Alex and Neill are pretty damn scary live too! Three dudes make All That Sound! TRIOS MAKE THE MOST NOISE!! (See also Cream, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, James Gang, Hüsker Dü).
I've seen them 9 times from the late 70s thru the early 90s,2112 and spirit of radio rock the hardest
Greatest drummer on the planet. PERIOD.
my favorite band sense I saw them I'm 1977. they all had long hair then.
Man, in the 70's these guys rocked the long hair, shirtless with silk robes, and bell bottoms. If you want to see some drumming, watch the live version of YYZ from the Exit Stage Left tour. Some may argue that his newer drum solo is better, but they are wrong.
Progressive rock,not mainstream.But very talented musicians.Great reaction.🤟🏼👍🏼
I think it's interesting that people say Zeppelin and Deep Purple were progressive, and they had elements of that in their music. Those bands had bigger followers, and were more popular back then. Even today they seem like they're more appreciated than RUSH, what do ya think? Floyd, earlier Genesis, YES, ELP, King Crimson, Vander Graff Generator, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull etc; etc; were progressive for sure.
@@markusantonio4866 Many rock bands had 'progressive' elements in their music back then; Queen, Roxy Music, Black Sabbath, Zep, Purple, Supertramp etc etc, but they also had either a commercial or a blues element which meant they automatically had broader appeal and a bigger audience than the actual prog rock bands, whose focus was on experimentation and doing something that broke all the rules. That was always going to appeal to less people. Most people like to be entertained, not intellectually challenged by music.
My all time favorite, reason I started playing bass.
Tom Sawyer. It ALWAYS starts with Tom Sawyer. It's a gateway song.
He came into the game with the hair! Neil was not only the best drummer in the game but he wrote most of the songs. RIP
Funny, that's exactly what i was doing an hour ago... cruising with the system loud, Red Barchetta. The ULTIMATE driving song. It's magical. Red Barchetta
Long hair was the thing in the 70s and 80s, man!
Especially speaking as a Canadian... I love this band.. I've seen them live, met Getty Lee the singer that started it all with long hair.... thanks for representing north of the border 🤘🤘
the hair the voice the bass the keys 😎
Finally got to Rush!,,,
Tony Foti rightttt was waiting for this bro
YEA, NERD ROCK.
LOVE RUSH.
The nerd thing to me, didn't actually begin until they did "Subdivisions". When I first heard this song when it was new, I thought that Rush were a stoner band.
Nothing nerdy about Moving Pictures. That's just some kick ass rock!
Probably heard this song 1000 times...never tire of it.
Welcome to over 40 years of music... as a hip hop dj this rock band is amazing. The drummer is your favorite drummers drummer
They all came into the game with long hair. 40 years later and finally retired, only Geddy Lee left with the long hair.
Poor Alex!
I was gonna say F in chat for Alex but, not sure how many would get that.
That drum solo..you could say it's a rush...😉
Temple of Syrnix 2112 Overture by Rush next! I heard it from my camp counselors when I was in summer camp as a kid and it changed my damn life. Epic!!! Like HPotter on steroids!!!! hahahaha. Love the channel!
First one I ever heard, thnks to my stpbrother.
Many moons ago, back when I was in Jr high, a friend's brother had an insanely huge record collection. I asked to borrow Fleetwood Mac's Tusk to make a copy. He gave it to me with a second album, 2112. He told me this is what I need to listen to. I've been absolutely hooked since then.
They were the first concert I ever went to. Saw them on the Signals tour.
I was 8 when first heard this album, thank you big brother, and yes -- it was life changing. They are amazing.
Rush is more than feeling.
Bro. Every. God. Damn. Song. 👍
Neil Peart "The Professor"
I completely agree. Rush is the bomb. Classic music at its best. Love your reactions!
Rush is my favorite band aside from Megadeth. Amazing band and Neil Peart one of the all time greatest drummers.
Neil Peart the Greatest!
Neil's the man on drums hands down!! 🤘
Megadeth?
Huh.
I can’t get into the band because of Dave Mustaines voice, which is a shame because the instruments are fucking sick!
Damn, you leveled up again!!!!!
Even better when you take the trip as a main course after having had an appetizer of the devil's lettuce
Lmao!
You said "The Canadian Turn-up gods" and I about fell out laughing because when you listen to Rush you just automatically turn up the volume. It's amazing the sound they get with just three amazingly talented musicians. You've started down a wonderful path and I envy you being able to discover them. Please do many more so I can relive a first listen to the songs through you.
Rush is amazing!
The 70's & 80's...long hair days
Girls were jealous of some of the guys luscious hair back then!
Great reaction, you cant go wrong with Rush
Yea Rush is pretty epic no doubt
I enjoyed your reaction here - and the light hearted humor throughout. I'm a professional drummer because of this group - for skills, Rush was the best rock band ever. Saw them twice - they perform on another level - their live material is often better than the studio versions - that's very hard to do (esp. with progressive rock being very technical). Justin, maybe look into what this song is about - a very critical look at modern youth. How they look & dress doesn't matter - it's all about the music with them - total professionals & gentlemen - watch the entire concert 'Exit Stage Left' from 1981 - just incredible! Neil, Alex & Geddy are legends.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...
I can't wait to see your reaction to The Spirit of Radio from the Permanent Waves album.
Also, when you see these 3 guys play live, it's truly impressive.
Just 3 guys making all the music! All are multi talented musicians, each laying down multiple tracts, then joining them together for an amazing sound! True musical genius!
Yes the GREATEST drummer in the world canadian
Justin, you da man!! Neil Peart is the best gaaaadam rock/progressive drummer of all time!! Geddy is the best rock bass player of all time!! Rush best band of all time and space!
Love Rush
Geddy Lee lead singer, bass guitar and keyboardist.
You needed to start with Working Man.
Rush has been called rock nerds. Often very technical and precise
You have to listen to YYZ, studio version or live in Rio. It's a must!!!
*R.I.P* Neil Peart.
Rush. You are definitely in for a ride! From album 1 listen to Working Man. Fast foward to ealry 80s The Spirit of Radio. Then go back to late 70s for the instrumental, La Villa Strangiatto or from the album Moving Pictures, YYZ, another instrumental. Get ready to ride!
You missed something like, oh, 3 decades worth of their music, but hey, who needs albums like Power Windows, Counterparts or Snakes & Arrows?
@@surfeit5910 I didn't miss anything, per se, I was just offering suggestions. I've been a fan since 1975.
Got damn surfeit they were just suggestions. Chill broooo
If you're really interested in Rush's history (and you should!), check out their autobiography Beyond the Lighted Stage. The full movie used to be on UA-cam but looks to be gone now. It should be on one of the various services, Netflix, Amazone Prime, etc.
He has powerful hair. There’s not a bad song on this record. Epic.
Getty Lee /Bassest & lead singer, Neil Peart /Drummer, Alex Lyson/ Guitar. Neal to me is one of the best rock drummers ever besides John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. He also wrote all their music. He left the band about two yrs ago after them being together almost five decades. Seen them more than a few times. The loudest show I've ever been to. Unreal Band. In every Country they toured he would play & then ride his motorcycle to the next show every single day at about 70yrs old, pretty incredible. He definantly had the largest drum kit for many years. I once counted 32 drums & 26 cymbals. They encircled him completely. And would turn from one side to the other. Two kits in one basically. Tom Sawyer is one of their biggest hits with Neal's riffs in it that is just incredible to me & millions of others. He is Very maticulous also about his kits. His drums were cleaned & polished everyday. He got with Paiste cymbals to manufacture a cymbal line with his name on them with no paint lettering on them so as to not removing the lettering when cleaning them. He has one of like only 100 ever made gold plated DW Drum Kits that he has played on DW Drums forever. They are mounted in a way so that each drums moves a lot to sustain sound. My very 1st concert was on June, 24th 1976. My 16th birthday and the line up was Head East, Rush & Ted Nugent as the headliner. Check out some of Ted Nugent's videos. He had the all time largest earnings tour during the late 70's & his management bought stupid shit and he went flat broke. He made it back again & does about 150 shows a yr still @ 70 yrs old. And every other day he is Bow Hunting. He has a TV Hunting show for the last 12 yrs or so. He is originally from Michigan but has lived just outside of Waco Texas for several yrs now on one of his two ranches. His house in Michigan got black mold so they to tear it down & moved to Tx. Where his ranch is. He still owes & hunts on his ranch in Michigan. At the start of Bow Hunting season he has always hunted for many yrs Tx first so I'm sure that when he had to tear down his home in Michigan it was why he chose to move to Tx. & Bought his ranch outside of Waco. Glad to have him here in my home state. The man goes non stop no matter what it is he's doing. He says he has never done drugs or drinks. His dad was a Army Sargent & was strick while growing up. His Dad eventually started a steel business & sold steel to Fred Bear to make his Broadheads out of. Fred was the pioneer of Archery & he & Ted were really close up until his death. Ted even wrote & recorded a song of him called Fred Bear. Check out Ted's song called Straglehold. Ted's a great rock guitarist as well as Alex from Rush. But has way more intensity. He is gifted, fun to watch & puts on great shows.
Yes, Geddy Lee, the lead singer, has had long hair all during his time as bassist/vocalist/keyboard player for Rush! You should check out a song by Rush called "YYZ". It's on the same album as Tom Sawyer and it ROCKS!
This is 10 years into their career, out of 40 total. Lead singer Geddy has always had that hair from day one.
Neil pert on drums is unbelievable I used to jam this parking cars for a living In the 80s .
All three are on also everybody’s top 10 list for their respective instruments.
I like how the commentary became less and less as the song progressed. He got totally captured by their musical brilliance.
To hear what they can do instrumentally try YYZ, preferably one of the live versions.
Watching drummers try to learn this song for the first time is amazing.... oh, the swearing!
Geddy Lee Vocal , Keys, Bass , , " A Long Hair my Brother from the star . 🎤🎹🎸🎶🎤😎
That is how you make it to rock'n roll hall of fame! :-)
Welcome to RUSH
"Long hair gives you the juice".......... lol.lol.lol...funnyest thing I heard in a long time.
Yes this is lit
naturemom57 it’s fire 🔥🔥🔥
Prog rock is good musicians playing technically and showing how good they are. Haha
Best band ever! Power Trio!
These guys are legends!
The drummer Neil just hung up his sticks about a year or so ago. The other two are trying to see where their careers will take them next. Amazing what three talented guys can do!
Great reaction! One would be hard pressed to find three more talented musicians in rock! The drummer, also writes almost all of the lyrics for the band. I think Geddy Lee always had that long hair. They all had long hair back in the 1970s.
The drummer writes all the lyrics, live the bass player sings as well and plays keyboards with his feet. Try YYZ. He came in with long hair but had it cut.
Geddy Lee is bassist, Moog Player and lead vocalist. Alex Lifeson is the lead guitarist and Neil Peart (deceased) is the drummer.
That's the seventies, Bud. Hair. Lotsa hair. lol Geddy Lee. That's Rush. Multitasking like the original three man quartet. lol
Gotta look beyond with Rush. Close your eyes and take that ride ....
Great musicians who are versatile. They started out as a hard rock band and then into a progressive hard rock band with album side lengthy epic songs like the masterpiece 2112. Then as the 80's came around they added a little more keyboard and shortened their songs and made a huge impact with the classic album Moving Pictures (Tom Sawyer was on Moving Pictures). MTV used to play music videos and Rush had a lot of videos during the 80s. As the 90s came around they went back to little harder rocking sound and wrapped up a few years ago with one of their very best albums ever in Clockwork Angels. All their albums are good or great but the three key milestone albums are 2112, Moving Pictures and Clockwork Angels IMO.
I agree with everything you said up until the last sentence. None of those 3 albums are even in my top ten RUSH list. Not that they are bad but just that that's how many even better records they've released
Wow. Takes me back to 8th grade. Love, love these guys.
So late to this particular party but glad I found it!
Justin: *all deep in his thoughts wondering all kinds of things about life*
