Thats crazy! How often do you have to replace a ladder?

sfdff39 This one just so happened to need to be replaced, Ladders always last for the life of the truck (except for this one of course) The truck probably has a lot of life left in it, but something damaged its ladder beyond repair

That seems like a lot of foolishness..,. Why not get every guy in the station to just come out, pick it off the trailer, and carry it into the storage bay... Those things only weigh 1000 to 1500#, so the big crane is totally unnecessary...
    About 8 - 10 guys would do it !!

+mailforward4me safety is the biggest reason. Plus they already own the tow truck, so work smarter not harder.

+Matt M Why would a Fire Department need to have their own Tow Truck ??

You will have to ask DCFD their particular reason for purchasing one, but this particular type of tow truck (known as a rotator) is a piece of rescue equipment more then it is a tow truck (think of it as a quick response heavy lifting crane). Im sure every fire department would have one if they could afford one.

+Matt M I doubt it.... A rotator is most definitely NOT a fire truck.... They cost over a million dollars, and only the largest and busiest towing and recovery companies can justify having one....
If a Fire Dept spends more than a million dollars on a piece of equipment to play with like this, that's more than a million dollars they don't have for a Fire Truck they actually need, and which would be used frequently to save lives..
It's pretty obvious that they are just playing here.... All they really needed to do was have the whole crew of firefighters lift it off the semi trailer, and carry it into the station... Honestly though... why drop it off at the station anyway, since it will probably need to be taken to the maintenance shop to be installed on the ladder truck. I kind of doubt that's something that can be done in-station...

Why work harder when you can work smarter?
