    Now thats a jib. Ide like to see the price tag on that rig. For anyone who hasnt seen the automatic counter weight deal, thats pretty cool itself and alot better than lifting them with the boom. That thing probly wieghs300,000 lbs or more.

    Growing up in Northern Ohio, fire department's had chains on tires unhooked. If not needed truck drove away; if needed, driver snapped them shut. This must be too old fashioned for modern fire departments, at least in the DC.

    Not super familiar with the Seagrave aerials but most modern aerials will only alarm if the diverter valve is on the stabilizer side and not the aerial side. Even then it usually only alarms to let you know that it doesn't sense it's been fully stabilized. At a fire scene, It's a standard sound that goes away to let you know you've successfully planted the stabilizers when you're setting up for operations. Again this is my experience with h-frames stabilizer systems. Or if you did plant them well, but the weight has shifted due to the aerial being at a low angle or full weight, etc, you could get an alarm.

      RTobi (Rummeltobi) We have 4 of them in the DCFD and we use one at our shop for service calls. They use to be used for fire hydrant inspection and services.

  • @mailforward4me

    That seems like a lot of foolishness..,. Why not get every guy in the station to just come out, pick it off the trailer, and carry it into the storage bay... Those things only weigh 1000 to 1500#, so the big crane is totally unnecessary... About 8 - 10 guys would do it !!

    • @legohead6
      @legohead6 8 років тому

      +mailforward4me safety is the biggest reason. Plus they already own the tow truck, so work smarter not harder.

    • @thomasjsanford6296
      @thomasjsanford6296 8 років тому

      +Matt M Why would a Fire Department need to have their own Tow Truck ??

    • @legohead6
      @legohead6 8 років тому

      You will have to ask DCFD their particular reason for purchasing one, but this particular type of tow truck (known as a rotator) is a piece of rescue equipment more then it is a tow truck (think of it as a quick response heavy lifting crane). Im sure every fire department would have one if they could afford one.

    • @mailforward4me
      @mailforward4me 8 років тому

      +Matt M I doubt it.... A rotator is most definitely NOT a fire truck.... They cost over a million dollars, and only the largest and busiest towing and recovery companies can justify having one.... If a Fire Dept spends more than a million dollars on a piece of equipment to play with like this, that's more than a million dollars they don't have for a Fire Truck they actually need, and which would be used frequently to save lives.. It's pretty obvious that they are just playing here.... All they really needed to do was have the whole crew of firefighters lift it off the semi trailer, and carry it into the station... Honestly though... why drop it off at the station anyway, since it will probably need to be taken to the maintenance shop to be installed on the ladder truck. I kind of doubt that's something that can be done in-station...
