We played the song in the radio where I worked.. And after that, I played it in Disneyland Paris where I've been DJ for 20 years .. Nice and fresh song with very good mix...
Nice piece of composing, very fond of the piano work. Remember in 1989 or 1990 I was at a new years party in Muscat, Oman, and was taken by surprise when the DJ played it. Downtown was already popular in Europe, especially Norway. Very catchy song!
This might have been as huge in the USA as it was in Europe but for some unfortunate timing. About two weeks after the song first charted, A&M Records announced that future singles (45's) would have a much lower list price but couldn't be returned if unsold. Many retailers believed (wrongly) that the policy affected all releases on the label and stopped ordering A&M 45's, so the record was so hard to find that it stalled out at #37.
By the time the promo video came out they'd already been on the verge of breaking, sadly. The guitar player would be later involved in A-HA touring activity
I agree with you guys, its a great flashback. To me this is oneof the best Norwegian groups ever and the soundtrack is as good today as it was 25 years ago! But there was another tone from the same album which name i cant recall, but somewhat similar to Downtown...can anyone help me with that..? Would be great to hear it again...
Re-release it into the charts,UK.More to the point why don't record companies re-release great singles again. A different generation might actually like it....go on,you know you want to.
