It's also worth knowing that if you begin your reload animation then enter wraith form you still reload. Can be used to outplay heroes like McCree since after his fan the hammer + roll + fan the hammer he is left vulnerable so if you flank him then run out of ammo you can bait the combo and finish him off while he reloads. Great video man!
I love this guy, no homo. • •Gains health on kill •Fast firing, high damage shotguns that look badass and is dual wield aswell. •Looks so cool in every skin he has •Epic voice lines and his voice is so damn good. •My favourite looking ultimate in overwatch. •The ability to teleport and turn invincible.
At Numbani playing defense, Reaper got the jump on our team. Wraith form from highground in the middle of our team, Zarya shield and Deathblossom made him an easy penta kill. Still have PTSD from that moment.
I think that there is great synergy between Lucio and Reaper as well, Lucio's speed boost can help Reaper easily get into teams for his short range damage and Lucio's ult can help ensure Reaper can Death Blossom and not instantly die. Just a thought, Great guide nonetheless.
This is an amazing guide - and a very enlightening one too. I never realized Reaper had so much depth to his play. The soul globe's passive is just genius! Will definitely try him
This is great content, so much useful information with pretty much everything regarding proper use of this hero covered. Thanks for this and I hope you continue making great videos such as this!
+Deivids Fluškerbauners Well, the ones that have 3 stars in difficulty tend to be the other way around. Like Genji, for example. Most people, when starting out with him (including me), think he sucks, but the truth is that he is not an easy starter class. However, once you get a hang of him, you can do some serious damage. So I'd say it depends on the class. Some classes are much more complex in how they are required to be played. Reaper's strategy is pretty straightforward.
A handy little tip for Reaper; his reload animation is pretty long, and it can leave you vulnerable for longer than you'd like. When you reload with Reaper, immediately perform a melee attack; this will reload your shotguns considerably faster.
I feel like Reaper REALLY wants to seem cool. You'd think being able to eat souls, teleport and turn into a ghost would be cool enough but he has to dress up like he's going to a Heavy Metal concert, dual wield shotguns, shout things like "die, die, die" and " "it's time to reap" and then he "re-loads" by dropping his guns and spawning two new ones.
I can forgive the reaper costume. I can forgive that he seems to have an infinite amount of shotguns and shells. I can forgive the "it's time to reap" voice line. But I cannot forgive his "executioner" play of the game animation.
I don't have Overeatch yet. But probably I'll get it for my birthday😛. I wondered witch hero I should choose. I always loved Reaper, now I know how to use him I'm absolutely gonna use him! Thank you very much!
Imo he's best on payload maps where he can shadow step (teleport) to cliffs and just jump down and get a team kill with his ult also you know you're doing good with reaper if an enemy switches to Reaper to copy you or s76 to counter you
+A Random Winner somewhere around 15 seconds I think. I've not tested this but that's what it feels like. Definitely not forever but they are there for some time and it's definitely not tied to death.
I really like to watch your videos, but I have a question, how do you know all the stories from the different characters ? ( I would like to see all of them ;) )
Does his ultimate have any verticality to it? How far above and below himself does he damage enemies, if at all? (I know he said 8 meter radius, but what if you're dropping down on enemies or someone is on a ledge just above you)
In my experience the begining players don't quite understand how to fully flank as Reaper and over estimate his range on his basic attack and his ult. I don't understand recomending him as a beginning character because I felt like I had to learn how to pick his moments a lot more than some of the other characters. I think Tracer makes a better beginning flanker for new players tbh, then they get try Genji and Reaper.
+User52 It's his only means of escaping and can't compare to Tracer's blink or recall imo. It only lasts 3 seconds and doesn't add much of a boost to speed. There's a lot more risk of flanking as Reaper than there is as Tracer.
+User52 He's a lot better for taking out tanks and can destroy most people 1v1 at close range, but it requires more pratice than some of the other offense to fufill his role. Only offense that is harder is Genji.
+Steelstring Venom - I think it really has a Punisher vibe to it, cinematic effect rather than comedic. It's fricking awesome and I love doing that repeatedly before the match starts (I barely played him though). Besides, he has one gun in each hand, how will he quickly reload?
Anyone have any experience on whether or not it's worth it to aim for the head? I've been aiming for the upper chest mostly, but double damage sounds like it could be useful.
Aim for the head whenever you can. Maybe not with the middle of the cross hairs on the head, but at least the upper half. The more pellets on target, the better.
Reaper is my fav to play because had so many potg with his ultimate and he can pretty much win u a game at the last moment if Clear an objective i like to put my best ones on ytube to prove his ulti is imo best in the game if used correctly
TheGamingJedi - he did not say that. What he said was if any enemy dies, whether he was involved or not in their death, he can see their orb. I thought the original post was referring to Reapers on opposite teams though, misread somehow :/ Point is, as long as you're Reaper, you can see dead enemies's soul orbs for a while after their death and collect them for health.
Makes a slight woosh sound and you hear his coat flapping in the wind. Can easily be misheard tho. On maps like King's Row for example, where there can be wind
+210ds I recommend that you almost always pause and plan out your shots instead of holding down the fire. Missing just a few pellets is enough to get you killed. The time it takes for your next shot to come up after firing your gun might be the difference between life or death when facing someone that you can't get away from in time.
+de Perago Indeed a frozen Reaper is going to be a dead Reaper but freezing Reaper is the problem. It takes 2 seconds to freeze a hero, that's enough time for him to blast 4 shots of his Shotguns, more than enough to explode a Mei at the range she has to be to freeze. Of course there is a skill element here, if the Reaper misses then Mei wins.
+The Phil Yes, or Roadhog tbh. I've mained Roadhog over the course of the beta and he works very well against Reaper, even the better ones. Hook hit and Reaper is an instant onehit KO if he doesn't press shift quick enough. Hook completely cancels Reapers ult as well. And Roadhogs Ult can get rid of Reaper by just pushing him away if Hook is on CD.
+Cynical Nerds One thing is that if you are reaper and you do feel yourself being frozen, just pop wraith form and you can prevent being frozen and escape.
I thought he was a counter to McCree since he has overall higher dps in close range and has higher hp oh and note: when you run into mcree WRAITH the first thing 90 percent of mccrees do is flashbang once you get out you should be able to handle him, McCree is weak without flashbang in tight quarters
You forgot the part where you point blank head-shot a widowmaker and she kills you, or the part where people get away with no hp left because of the damage fall off, or the part where you can't seem to hit anyone even when they are in the center of your dot, taking all 20 pellets. Or the best part where Genji using dragonblade out dpses you without parry, while taking full shots to the face.
I think your aim just sucks, buddy. If you're not hitting anyone when they're taking all 20 pellets, you obviously miss. A lot apparently, since you're this mad.
+Jay H I actually did a bit of looking up and it's not really the case basically reaper in lore was a soldier ,in the overwatch team and in real life,a tactic soldiers use is called "death blossom" which basically means spraying fire in all directions indiscriminately, which is exactly what reaper does in his ult
So, Reaper is easy to learn, easy to master. He's a tank killer and a squishy killer. His abilities allow him to be invisible and mobile for three seconds and to teleport behind or away from people. Essentially, you have no skill and are picking the easiest character in the game if you choose Reaper. Soldier 76 even has a larger learning curve than Reaper. He needs to be nerfed
+BloodshotxHero This is probably true due to all the hints and the skin but its not part of his official lore on the battle net Overwatch pages so I didn't include it.
First game I played with Reaper was at lvl 31 because I don't like his lore and gameplay. First game with him, on PS4, and I got 3+ kills with the ultimate TWICE(one POTG) on the same game, and I usually play as support. Teleport behind your enemies, pew pew pew + ult = GG. It's so easy it should be nerfed.
+TheGamingJedi It's not that terrible, way harder to aim but you get used to. I would prefer PC if I had one. I pointed out the console so it would be more evident how Reaper it's a easy hero to play, you don't need be that good at aiming to still deliver that much damage.
I think Mei is ok in consoles, Reaper feels more OP but it's probably his mechanics. In PC it's easier to counter aiming for a headshot after a teleport for example. Reaction time on consoles are usually slows like turning your camera. Bastion is OP IMO in general because his turret dmg. But it's counterable.
+PUG WARRIOR Reaper is only powerful if you're new to the game and haven't gotten used to your class abilities. most classes have ways to either get some distance away from him OR push him away, his damage falloff is extremely fast, he goes from "oh jesus was that three shots on winston?" to "am i even taking damage from this guy?" within a 3 meter difference of distance
Meh... I don't like damage fall out... TF2 does this too (I AM NOT SAYING OVERWATCH IS LIKE TF2) ... But yah, tf2 has the same mechianic. A pistol does 10 damage say point blank, but farther it does 5 damage... Like, dude... Come on, give me the whole 10 damage. Bullets don't get weaker as they travel, c'mon... ;(
Yay! I don't play reaper enough, but this guy is stupid strong if you pick up the close-quarters play style like you mentioned. Great guide!
+notrobmay Thanks, Rob. Do you think you'll get much time for Overwatch in Japan?
We'll see, I'm starting an Overwatch Podcast tonight at 8:30pm EST on www.twitch.tv/omniclab with Andres, so I'd sure hope so!
+Cynical Nerds if your far range with reaper it will do 2 damage
It's also worth knowing that if you begin your reload animation then enter wraith form you still reload. Can be used to outplay heroes like McCree since after his fan the hammer + roll + fan the hammer he is left vulnerable so if you flank him then run out of ammo you can bait the combo and finish him off while he reloads. Great video man!
thanks :)
Reaper, AKA how to give Reinhardts PTSD
+Raj Singh The amount of Reinhardts who I've killed by walking behind and holding M1 is stunning.
was anyone else hearing that "DIE DIE DIE!" in their head?
Yes
I love this guy, no homo. • •Gains health on kill
•Fast firing, high damage shotguns that look badass and is dual wield aswell.
•Looks so cool in every skin he has
•Epic voice lines and his voice is so damn good.
•My favourite looking ultimate in overwatch.
•The ability to teleport and turn invincible.

+ThatMasterDebater You are correct. I did not think of this before.
+One Hundred Souls Well with comments like this I'm sure I can squeeze a few more out. :)
Only death himself could dual wield shotguns
So basically reaper is easy to pickup but hard to master
Tbh thats how MOST of the heroes are
+Deivids Fluškerbauners
Well, the ones that have 3 stars in difficulty tend to be the other way around. Like Genji, for example. I literally got the hang of Gengi in the first 20 minutes of playing and I'm pretty good. Although my favorite is Reaper.
Reaper and Genji play similarly
+mastrj™ genii is hard to play as
never played overwatch and don't intend to buy it, but i know reaper is my favorite character.
+Mad_Scientist Tracer
+Rin Len *Genji
+run4walk *junkrat
+maswarm reviews That's a very strange spelling. But then again, I don't know any Japanese, so...
run4walk
the fuck?
if you use Reapers melee right after you start the reload animation, you can start shooting quicker than just waiting for him to pick up new shotguns.
Nice guide man! +1 sub
A handy little tip for Reaper; his reload animation is pretty long, and it can leave you vulnerable for longer than you'd like.
When you reload with Reaper, immediately perform a melee attack; this will reload your shotguns considerably faster.
love your guides man, there awesome and help me play thanks bro!
When reloading, melee instantly to make it shorter, sort of like Y Y from COD.
Ambrose Glaspole it's not quicker same time
I feel like Reaper REALLY wants to seem cool. You'd think being able to eat souls, teleport and turn into a ghost would be cool enough but he has to dress up like he's going to a Heavy Metal concert, dual wield shotguns, shout things like "die, die, die" and " "it's time to reap" and then he "re-loads" by dropping his guns and spawning two new ones.
now where does he get em from?
now where does he get em from?
+Adam Dobry Like Deadpool would say "You don't wanna know"
I can forgive the reaper costume.
Imo he's best on payload maps where he can shadow step (teleport) to cliffs and just jump down and get a team kill with his ult also you know you're doing good with reaper if an enemy switches to Reaper to copy you or s76 to counter you
love your overwatch advice, keep it up man
How long does the soul globes stay on the map? Until you die? After a minute?
+A Random Winner somewhere around 15 seconds I think. I've not tested this but that's what it feels like. Definitely not forever but they are there for some time and it's definitely not tied to death.
Thanks!
the last in till the enemy respanws
Isn't it also good to shoot once before you ult? So that you animation cancel the shot.
I really like to watch your videos, but I have a question, how do you know all the stories from the different characters ? ( I would like to see all of them ;) )
+NekMogz All the Character back stories are on the official site as well as the wiki.
Helpful tip expect genji to deflect your shots back
These are really helpful! Thanks for making them :)
This is very interesting and helpful. Thank you!
wraith form makes him faster as well, it's good either for chasing and escaping.
Do the souls he takes remove the ones a Mercy can fly to?
Does his ultimate have any verticality to it? How far above and below himself does he damage enemies, if at all? (I know he said 8 meter radius, but what if you're dropping down on enemies or someone is on a ledge just above you)
You have to be level with them for it to be effective
Literally the only reason I wanted to learn how to use him properly I'd because I got my first Legendary skin on him haha
Which one did you get?
In my experience the begining players don't quite understand how to fully flank as Reaper and over estimate his range on his basic attack and his ult. I don't understand recomending him as a beginning character because I felt like I had to learn how to pick his moments a lot more than some of the other characters. I think Tracer makes a better beginning flanker for new players tbh, then they get try Genji and Reaper.
Tracer has the range problem too
+User52 Not as much as Reaper and it's easier to get out of danger with her.
They both have fairly similar tools. Wraith form is very good and doesn't have that much cool down.
Only offense that is harder is Genji.
reaper's wraith form doesn't remove all debuffs, i think what you meant was it avoids all debuffs. 1:12
+T651 It removes discord orb.
Is there any lore-based reason he throws his guns on the ground and pulls out new ones instead of reloading, or is that just for comedic effect?
+Steelstring Venom Swag
+Steelstring Venom - I think it really has a Punisher vibe to it, cinematic effect rather than comedic. It's fricking awesome and I love doing that repeatedly before the match starts (I barely played him though).
Besides, he has one gun in each hand, how will he quickly reload?
will you take damage while you're channeling shadow step?I mean the moment before you teleport to another location
+LoLxxmine Yes, he is really vulnerable while shadow stepping. I think he spends half the cast time in each place rooted to the spot.
thanks for the guide! it really helped me!
How much damage does reaper do with mercy damage buff?
If Reaper's Still In wraith form can he still push the payload?
Anyone have any experience on whether or not it's worth it to aim for the head? I've been aiming for the upper chest mostly, but double damage sounds like it could be useful.
Aim for the head whenever you can. Maybe not with the middle of the cross hairs on the head, but at least the upper half. The more pellets on target, the better.
Reaper is my fav to play because had so many potg with his ultimate and he can pretty much win u a game at the last moment if Clear an objective i like to put my best ones on ytube to prove his ulti is imo best in the game if used correctly
I have one or two videos on my chanmel that include me getting PotG with me, if you wanna check those out.
If you have two Reapers on your team, can one Reaper "steal" the soul globe from the other, or are they per-person?
Per person
+Daniel Samuels - Only the reaper who kills will see the orb on the ground as far as I know.
+Literary Landslide Nope, if anybody kills a player any reaper can have the soul globe, he says this in the video
TheGamingJedi - he did not say that. What he said was if any enemy dies, whether he was involved or not in their death, he can see their orb. I thought the original post was referring to Reapers on opposite teams though, misread somehow :/
Point is, as long as you're Reaper, you can see dead enemies's soul orbs for a while after their death and collect them for health.
"Whenever an enemy dies whether the reaper was involved in their death or not a soul globe which only reaper can see will drop"
well done for all the guides.. btw reaper's passive changed into lifesteal ;)
where does he keep all of his shotguns???
Does Wraith form still make footstep sounds or another sound the enemy can hear?
It kinda does you gotta be close to hear it. Can't really describe what it sounds like but it's like a woosh kind of noise lol
Makes a slight woosh sound and you hear his coat flapping in the wind. Can easily be misheard tho. On maps like King's Row for example, where there can be wind
can you go into third person in these games
Would you recommend holding down fire or individually planning each shot?
+210ds plan each shot, get close and read their movements as you fire.
+210ds But you can do both
+210ds hold the trigger. holding the trigger allows you to concentrate on aiming rather than clicking.
+210ds I recommend that you almost always pause and plan out your shots instead of holding down the fire. Missing just a few pellets is enough to get you killed. The time it takes for your next shot to come up after firing your gun might be the difference between life or death when facing someone that you can't get away from in time.
individually clicking doesnt maximise your DPS. You want the guns to fire at reliable intervals. Clicking also affects aim.
Would you say Mei is strong against Reaper, as a counter? I've found that Reapers can't get work done when frozen.
Best counter to Reaper: Phara
+The Phil Yes, or Roadhog tbh. I've mained Roadhog over the course of the beta and he works very well against Reaper, even the better ones. Hook hit and Reaper is an instant onehit KO if he doesn't press shift quick enough. Hook completely cancels Reapers ult as well. LordDivine1 Ya right!
+Cynical Nerds One thing is that if you are reaper and you do feel yourself being frozen, just pop wraith form and you can prevent being frozen and escape.
My very first match on the beta, I chose Reaper mainly b/c his looks and I ended up going 28-0
spawnroom cardio xD
great videos bro
I got a Reinhardt to stun the whole team, teleported in to use the Reaper's Q ability = play of game every time.
I thought he was a counter to McCree since he has overall higher dps in close range and has higher hp oh and note: when you run into mcree WRAITH the first thing 90 percent of mccrees do is flashbang once you get out you should be able to handle him, McCree is weak without flashbang in tight quarters
Actually reaper does have a name and a backstory
in addition, Mei is a pretty good counter against Reaper
Why does he drop the weapons when reloading instead of just popping in some new rounds? Isn't that just less effective?
+Matthew O'Connor He has one of the slower reload times in the game too. Some people just try that little bit too hard to be badass.
Cynical Nerds True, true.
+Matthew O'Connor well what's fast reloading 4 shells in both shotguns or just drop them and whip out two more?
Darkness19Z Still, you have to bring over 10 shotguns into a fight.
Matthew O'Connor still faster than reloading two shotguns
You forgot the part where you point blank head-shot a widowmaker and she kills you, or the part where people get away with no hp left because of the damage fall off, or the part where you can't seem to hit anyone even when they are in the center of your dot, taking all 20 pellets. Or the best part where Genji using dragonblade out dpses you without parry, while taking full shots to the face.
what about the part where you press Q to win as reaper?
I think your aim just sucks, buddy. If you're not hitting anyone when they're taking all 20 pellets, you obviously miss. A lot apparently, since you're this mad.
Reaper is Lord Death's son.
Why does throw them on the ground
great videos
Is "watch out for Pharrah" a meme?
That ultimate is straight up taken from Katarina's ultimate in League of Legends..
as if "spinning and damaging everyone around you " was a unique idea? ...
Mohammed jawahri The name as well. It's like they tried to use use death lotus but saw it was taken so they had to settle for death blossum.
+Jay H I actually did a bit of looking up and it's not really the case
basically reaper in lore was a soldier ,in the overwatch team
and in real life,a tactic soldiers use is called "death blossom" which basically means spraying fire in all directions indiscriminately, which is exactly what reaper does in his ult
Does reaper have the highest dps?
+1TieDye1 My personal guess would be that Bastion has
+Sarrgas Music fair. I also forgot about the fan the hammer-roll-fan the hammer combo on mccree. That is 840 dmg in just over a second i think.
I think that you need to add that Reaper's real name is Gabriel Reyes.
+Mörder Senpai Leader Of The Senpai Squad - And he's black.
I like how his reload animation is just him getting two new guns and throwing the old ones away XD can't he just reload normally
Can't wait to play those guides are hyping me up ;p.
It's /always/ Death Blossom!
Mccree is a big counter unless you are smart
my favorite
So, Reaper is easy to learn, easy to master. He's a tank killer and a squishy killer. His abilities allow him to be invisible and mobile for three seconds and to teleport behind or away from people. Description is wrong cx I suggest you fix that! I think it should say "Reaper" not "Widowmaker"
+SolidPootis It should indeed. Thanks :D
My name is not important....
What is important is my name.
Reapers real name is Gabriel Reyes.
+BloodshotxHero This is probably true due to all the hints and the skin but its not part of his official lore on the battle net Overwatch pages so I didn't include it.

+Cassio Cabral Overwatch is terrible on consol, poorly balance, especially due to aim assist
+TheGamingJedi It's not that terrible, way harder to aim but you get used to. I would prefer PC if I had one. I pointed out the console so it would be more evident how Reaper it's a easy hero to play, you don't need be that good at aiming to still deliver that much damage.
Reaper is not OP on PC
Mei and Bastion is
However according to a few console users I'm in contact with they say Mei is underpowered
