Doctor Who (& Co.) Sings - The Nations of the World

- Not counting re-released songs, this is the 50th Doctor Who Sings video! To celebrate, we thought we’d go all-out. With over 35 hours of tireless research, we’ve brought together Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Class, the BBC Radio episodes, AND Big Finish’s Doctor Who (and associated spin-offs) and Torchwood releases to bring you the ultimate (we hope!) Doctor Who version of Yakko Warner’s “Nations of the World” song from “Animaniacs”!
We were truly shocked (in a good way!) by just how many nations we were able to find, mostly due to the extensive list of potential sources. This song is a pretty good representation of just how far we’ve been able to stretch the concept of Doctor Who Sings and does nothing but spur us on into the future!
We felt the best way to present the song was to slow it down a bit, because it can be quite hard to follow otherwise. Feel free to put the video on 1.25x speed for something approaching the original :)

Honestly, we were only looking for "iberia" or just "beria" from the word. We couldn't believe our luck when we took the "s" sound from the beginning and it somehow sounded exactly like "Liberia"!

Fun fact: Randy Rogel, the guy who wrote this song (and a lot of the other Animaniacs songs) was involved in Doctor Who fan films in the 80s.
My Animaniacs and Doctor Who fandomness came inside me.

We learnt about that song while working on this one, and we thought this one was hard enough! Given Doctor Who doesn't have that many stories set in America, it would be an absolute nightmare to do! xD

Do you have a massive database of words and where they were said or do you have to go through every episode to do this haha
We've been keeping track of all sorts of words and phrases as we've re-watched various stories/episodes over the last few years, so we do have a sizeable list of potentially useful material. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a database though; it's a bit too primitive for that :P We also use this website (www.chakoteya.net/DoctorWho/) and Google to help look for words we don't have on our list/can't think of ourselves. For this particular song, we also used the Doctor Who Wiki to help narrow down which stories (audios in particular) were worth revisiting in case a particular country was mentioned in them. We couldn't find a source with transcripts of the audios, so we had to re-listen to EVERY release in this video just to find one or two words. We think it was worth the effort though :)

I don't know if you do requests but could you see if you could do Sweet Caroline and/or some Christmas carols
We're always open to requests! Sweet Caroline is one we've considered before, but it's not without its challenges. I'll bring it up next time we're discussing what song to tackle next :) I'm afraid I can't make any promises we'll end up doing it though. As for Christmas carols, we've been meaning to do some for ages, but we've not ended up with the time at the end of the year to do any, and I don't think we're going to have the time to put any together this year either. We usually take a break over the Christmas period because we're in different places spending the holiday with different people. Maybe the stars will align next year and we'll finally be able to fit them in!

We had considered doing the song at its original speed, but by the time you get to the final verse (where we were missing quite a number of the nations as whole words) it became far too choppy to be able to follow it properly, so we slowed it down to help make it a little more understandable. Of course, we don't discourage anyone from listening to it at its original speed if they want to :)
