Fabulous video Amelia, as always. Always providing really valuable tips & explanations in every area. Even a subject as simple as the halt - really valuable. Thanks Amelia. 😊🐴🙏
Thank you! This makes so much sense. My horse tends to pull when I ask for a hault and as you say it just gets worse the more I ask and I get more tense. I can't wait to try this technique!
Us as well, I've been riding my sweetboy for almost 7 years now, and recently have just begun to have some real tension, frustration with where we're at. He has been just bardging through my halt requests and just feeling all over under my saddle, I'm always having g to correct a should or hind leg to stay underneath me. So maybe just taking the time to go back to the basics for a bit, enjoy my ride a bit more and then moving on. And remembering patience and perseverance and love for my boy will always end with a good turnout. Thanks Amelia.
Excellent advice. I dont have round, through, softness or contact. So I have a long long way to go. But love the idea of one day achieving a descent picture of our connection under saddle! You're a champion in my view. Thankyou Amelia 💞

Hi Amelia, I've tried what you've said about the halt and it was so much better...I haven't quite mastered it properly yet but I'm sure it will come ....Thankyou xx🐴🤗
Great video as always. LOVE your teaching style and really appreciate how well you break things down for us. You're the best, Amelia! By the way is Kensington one of your horses? He is GORGEOUS! Beautiful mover!
Thank you for this awesome video! I hear you clucking to your horse and I thought this was a no-no during dressage. I find myself doing it without thinking. How can I break this habit?
Hi Amelia, I have just bought a new horse. I have watched your video about the halt. When I ask for a halt my horse leans on the bit and tries to put his head down to the ground. I try to halt through my seat and legs, not putting any pressure on his mouth, he still leans down with a lot of pressure. What would you do?
I am lucky enough to have a now 8yo that halts square 99% of the time. Did I train him right or ride him right maybe i don't know! But we definitely need to work on halt -> transitions. Thank you for the tips! Have any tips for this same horse that will swing his hips to the right when backing up? He always does it. Not pulling in my hands so no idea where it is coming from.
Not simple at all guys - achieving a square halt without resistance is very difficult. Horses vary in how much they cooperate .Ive learned that the key is to think about slowing the walk beforehand but not too much .My three-year old resists downward transitions so it's something I need to work on every day .

It is correct that fix those issues and don't fix it in the halt. Thanks.

It can be used as a verbal training aid/cue, but it is penalized in competition. Some people I know hum when they want to cluck and tap with the whip.

working on turn on the forehand to the left will help that! As you will be able to keep him on the aids more securely in the rein back :)
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage I'll work on that then! Thank you! 😊

Yes definitely takes practice!
My mare will stop straight in the front, but not the back legs.
Thank you
