New car prices have gotten insane, along with everything else. At some point, things have to crash and come back down to realistic levels. No way should this car ever cost 50k
This is a $35K car....I agree $50K is insane.
This is the new market for any brand believe prices have been going up 10% year over year
@@layne4376 hot take- pure evs will die out as a passing fad, ice and hyburds will continue on
it's a sports hybrid from italy reminds me of the cadillac allante or chrysler tc
@@mboiko 35K would be a stretch.....
That's too much for something that kinda looks like a jacked up Dart 😂
I literally said to myself that looks like a facelift dodge dart with a lift kit😂😂😂
True LOL!!😂
The last time dodge made a turbo 4 banger with so many issues 😂
lol I had a dart as my 1st new car what pile of shit that thing was.
Don’t worry. In 6 months they will be giving $15K off like they do with the Alfa‘s.
Doubt it the prices will go up!
First time I saw this at my local Chrysler dealer from a distance I said, Oh, what a lovely Alfa. Then realized it was a "Dodge."
It's almost February, and there are $13k off the sticker coming from a dealers.
@@gazzyT644wym?
Without knowing anything about this car, hard no for that price!!!!!
$50k for this is like a blatant open hand slap to the face of consumers....Dodge must be off their rocker, that or it costs them a fortune to ship these to the states.
Probably the later.
You're only getting half an engine for $50k, where's the other half, still in Italy??
@@justacinnamonbun8658 😂😂 on god
52k for a unremarkable, econobox crossover with questionable Chrysler reliability?🤔
More like questionable Fiat reliability
More like alfa romeo riability...
Just wait and get a pre owned. There is NO WAY it’s going hold any of that 50k value
if anyone buys it
@@EP50009 the bad credit crowd will be the best customers.
People are stupid. They’d buy anything with a “sporty” look with a 1.3 😂
Buying a pre-owned dodge is the only thing stupider than buying a new dodge
@@TheRealCatof lmao. So true!!
50k 😂
Make sure you also keep another 50k in the bank for repairs 😅
Don't forget a few extra bucks for the lube the dealer will need to get you to sign a 50k contract on this alfa.
@@themoviebay 😂😅
This might make sense if it seriously undercut the Toyota RAV4 Prime and this top trim was under 40k. Instead its somehow more expensive, not eligible for tax credit, less combined horsepower, less all Ev range, and the Toyota will probably last 5x longer with minimal maintenance. My brain hurts.
Even if it was cheaper it's still beaten by the reliability of a Rav4
There is no rav4 prime anywhere at msrp
Either Stellantis has lost their mind or they are intentionally trying to kill Dodge
Why not both?
Probably CAFE plus consumer demand.
Does this one still have the flaw that Tommy encountered in his slip/traction testing?
It isn't a flaw. It is intentional, and all Europoean spec cars will throw the same DTC with the wheel speed sensor when in a negative friction environment (roller wheels) with throttle
For a "new" vehicle, the design already looks like its out of date by at least 10 years.
And the over inflated $50K price tags makes it even worse.
This one is 50k there are cheaper Hornets around 32-34k
Is it worth $50k? Nope, never. It’s not even worth $40k. The depreciation on these will be epic.
RIP 🪦 DODGE
And Chrysler and Fiat.
$52k for that junk?! Someone direct me to a Nissan gtr
Why RIP its sweet
You can get a new Acura RDX Advance with SH-AWD for that much! Acura is a far better choice. Would love to see a head to head comparison with these two.
Not even close. Acuras are MUCH better than Dodge.
Also the Lexus NX is much better than the Hornet too
Hell of a lot better quality to!!
Dodge/Fiat won't
As a mechanic, there will be some problems with repairs on these when they get older. Few know how to repair an EV and that 1.3 turbo is going to wear out faster than a non-turbo engine. But, many will probably buy it because it's popular these days to have all that technology in your car. Enjoy it while it lasts, lol.
it will last as long as the base warranty is LOL
I took a look at one at the Pennsylvania Auto Show a couple months ago. They aren’t worth more than $30,000 fully loaded.
The name says it all (DODGE). And I will.
They are actually pretty stout and reliable now days!
@@fireant1272 It's a Fiat. When he said that it shares a platform with Alfa Romeo, that means it shares a platform with Fiat. One of the worst car manufacturers in the world.

It isn't worth the money, especially for a vehicle with a 1.3L turbo engine. This is a hard pass!
Plug in hybrid too though.
Am I the only that thinks this looks just like the Dart? Which was arguably their most unreliable car ever.
Wife thought the Hornet was "cute" so we test drove one this past week looking for a replacement for the 2019 Honda CRV. I was not impressed but the wife liked all the tech and the color combo was perfect for her so we went forward with the purchase.. UNTIL.. we hit a brick wall dealing with the finance manager and the over $3,750 in "dealer installed" options PLUS an insane $1000 documentation fee and dealer sales prep fee. Dealer said they were unable to remove since those items were already pre-installed so I said I will take the next one off the truck BEFORE dealer add-ons, still no deal so we ended up walking away. I was so disgusted with the experience, especially since this is the same dealership in 2019 where I purchased my Hellcat at MSRP and promptly dumped it 9 months later when I herd the dreaded ping.
50K is one year old Lexus GX $$$. I feel bad for anyone who steps in this steaming pile.
I feel bad for anyone who compares this fiat to a Lexus. Those poor people have no idea what they are talking about.
@@thatdudeinblackshoes he’s comparing price, not the vehicle. Doesn’t seem that hard to understand.
This is a good dea if you stick with the gt and maybe just add the track package, calling the hybrid the RT is kind of dumb since it’s not really much faster than the gt and you can still get the track pack with the gt
@@marcg.3830 he's comparing the type of car (muscle ish suv) to some sedated Japanese car [is dumb]
The GX also get 15 mpgs 🤣 this car has a 1.3L motor so no one is cross shopping this with a GX.
52k for this? They have got to be crazy. Is Dodge trying go out of business on purpose??
Seriously they stop making V8 chargers and challengers for this stop it!
No way this cost as much as a 3 series
Definitely not 50k i can have something better for that price🎉
Like what?
52k?? From the looks I figured it was a 19.5k sh*tbox!
For a compact SUV? I thought 30k for my titanium AWD Ford EcoSport was overpriced, how do manufacturers justify the prices on the newest vehicles besides “finance it longer”? Nobody in their right mind is paying anywhere near 50k for a compact Dodge SUV 😂
Lease it...thats what I would do and you'd get the $7500 tax credit by doing so. And if it ends up being the vehicle you don't like you can just turn it in at the end of the lease and get something else. The tax credit applied to the lease alone brings the price down to $44,500 (assuming you get a totally maxed out Hornet R/T Plus) and then there may be some lease incentives on top of it.
Yeah, our Ford Maverick just continues to show how great of a value it is. For 28k, we bought a decently equipped, extremely fuel efficient, comfortable, practical, cool looking, fun to drive, vehicle with a bulletproof hybrid system and a great warranty. A truck that gets 50 mpg and handles great while doing it.
Then people run out and buy garbage like this.
I'm sorry but fords are complete piles now days. But I do remember when they built solid vehicles!
@@fireant1272 Bro, they're better than ever. The hybrid system in the maverick has been around for 15 years and has a stellar reputation for longevity. Our explorer is over 7 years old and has never had a part replaced, not even the windshield wipers. Making it far more reliable than most of the Japanese cars we've owned.
@@fireant1272 But Ford used to make unreliable cars, back in the 70s and 80s for sure. Everything American made or touched back then was a joke. Wasn't alive for it, but my parents were talking about how you were lucky if an 80s car last 5 years on the original engine, which is definitely true. Just look at odometers, cars lasting over 100k miles was so rare back then, that most brands didn't even both with making odometers that would go over 100k.
Well a 1st or second run maverick I might believe. These days fords slappin em together as fast as they can get the parts. Does wonders for reliability
@@matthewcaughey8898 Yeah I'm not worried at all.
Amazing camera work! While Nathan is talking about the rear hatch area, not once does the cameraperson bother to turn and look into the vehicle! Sheer brilliance.. 🤧
I thought the same thing lol. Like yo, show the car, not the guy
I was so interested at the start of this video then this happens and I'm like, meh. The focus should be on the vehicle. Hello.
That 1.nothin will never last out the payments. 😂
It seems that so many 2024 and 2023 cars are priced about $5-10k more than they're actually worth. What a terrible time for the consumer.
Oh god 1.3 L engine!! Wow I wonder how long this will last?
I want to see how fast this thing goes when the battery is dead. Will it be like a large Mitsubishi Mirage?
@@ShockinglyBleh yeah it seems like the gt will be the better deal with the 2.0 turbo that has basically the same hp and I’m almost positive there’s going to be aftermarket support for it
Garbage engine
It'll last a long time, so long as it isn't driven.
This cars top trim should be 32-35k max
no one's gonna pay 50k for that! 😅
Unfortunately yes. That's why car prices stay high. Car sales are not slowing down. The power of the idea of "owning a new car". The return of the car as a social status adn statement. THe fad of owning the last tech. And the fear (the abyss) of missing out. Let's live before it's all over.
50k I’m buying a bmw not this pos
@@racineurr.8924Your comment didn't age well, they're the worst selling new car in America
Simple answer - No, it's too much $. Heck you can get into actual luxury bands for the same $. Q4, X1 etc etc.
Dodge You better figure it out in the future and be able to work on another new Reliable V8 engine car down the road because this stuff here is not going to cut it by Itself !!!
I really like it........for about $30-35k
35k at most this thing is worth.
That's the base model price. Well 30k before dealer 'market adjustment', tax, title, destination etc.
I wouldn't even pay $30k for this thing. Max I'd even remotely CONSIDER paying would be $25k on a good day. I'll wait a few years and check back. Sure this will be sub $25k. Might pick one up then as a beater, daily driver.
Not long ago Jeep sold the Cherokee with awd with a 2.0 turbo 30k 24/7/365. Car prices are just to high for what you get !
Everybody get your bicycle ready
Sooo a 30k suv is 50k? Hope this fails spectacularly
Can’t wait until it’s listed on the “20 cars not to buy” list
Give it a couple months, it’ll for a fact be in that list😂
That’s a real nice $28k car ya got there!
I did a double take. Not even $42k? So worth more than a CTR, as much as any 3-row midsize fully loaded, or a Charger SRT. Something's not adding up.
I think it's the hybrid system along with the track pack features that must jump the price up. Base price of the RT is $41k.
It would a great buy at $28k
considering I bought my optioned up 2022 challenger R/T fresh from the factory at the height of the price hikes ('cause apparently me falling down the stairs as an infant is coming back to haunt me) and it was $6k less than this says something. This is not a $50k car. And after the dealer markup i bet they'll be listed at $60k plus.
I must of fell down those same stairs. I paid full sticker for a new Charger Scat in 9/22. I never paid full sticker for a vehicle before.
The profit margin on these must be enormous.
Made in Italy, it is then imported so I doubt it is very profitable, it's a pretty bad car tho
Awesome camera work! No s-log, no post processing of colors. Incredible focus and defocusing skills with auto focus turned on. Awesome job with exposure settings.Great angle view when the hatch and hood is open. Setting the standard in automotive review cinematography!
how quick do you want the the rear to go down in a nano second geez.seemed quick enough to me.
I agree, I think it goes down just fine. Nathen sure does like to wine about the simplest of things. He’d probably complain if it went down too fast and say this thing come downs so fast it’s trying to eat you.
I think I would rather wait for the Tonale! The Alfa badge is more prestigious.
Hard pass maybe 35 k if that.
This takes place of the Hellcat😅
This is most like a Hell kitten 🐱

I have the impression they want make ICE cars very expensive for when they change to EV only we will feel less the price. That also would explain they hold their production. I see the customer getting tired of this higher prices very soon. Nothing justify those prices for ICE cars and trucks. They are following some agenda, that’s for sure. I can be wrong, but what company doesn’t want sell a lot and take more market share instead reduce their presence, like it’s happening now?
This thing is getting clowned on. Hard.
This is my problem with these car channels. Everyone of you guys shouted "under 30k!" in every single preview. And lo and behold, it's 20K more expensive upon arrival.
those tail lights remind me of the new porsche macan and porsche cayenne tail lights
Future conversation may 2024
" i went to my dealership 5 times
Its good for a day or so then the same problem occurs
No one can figure it out
My friend picks me up for a ride to work
I don't see Dodge being around in a few years, at the very least not anywhere near their current presence. Forsaking the V8s will place them in the annuals of history just like Chrysler.
When I hear dodge and $50k together my first thought isn’t price tag its that it cost $50k to repair all the crap that must have broke on that Dodge 😂😂
Nice video Nathan, but I'm left looking at that Hornet feeling ho hum, instead of feeling the buzz Dodge wants me to. The price for such blandness is the real sting, though. Ouch! That'll leave a mark.
Even if Dodge admits that it is an Alfa in a potato's clothing, the looks just let it down. Alfa stylists could help Dodge make this dud become more of a stud. Ciao!
Hmm $52k for a dodge or $49k for a fully loaded BMW X1 with way more tech, luxury, and class.
This car will never sell for 50k
52K for this?? I really hope no one wastes that much money on this vehicle 🤦♂️
At 2:36 I can already say this thing will sit it’s tires flat on the dealerships 😂💩 it’s a 1.3 liter engine? Oh god
They also are offering just a 2.0 turbo making 256 HP, I say buy that instead if anyone is interested.
Garbage engine for sure
Top Gear Top Tip: NEVER pay 50k for a COMPACT SUV
I'll stick to my Bronco Sport and its 1.5 turbo 3
I don't think Stelantis has figured out how to build a proper PHEV yet. Their Jeep 4xE's do not behave as a proper PHEV should...
I like your perspective on things (love Nathan) but OMG who decided the music should be so LOUD for 2 min? what was that about. I’m in Canada and I haven’t heard a price here yet but no way this should be 52 grand
It has stop start tech, and a highly stressed 4 cylinder engine. So what happens when you pull off the highway and stop at the light? the turbo will still be spinning down and the oil pump will be turned off. how do you think that ends?
I remember the AMC Hornets
I’d rather have one of those, than this $52k pile. At least you can keep the AMC moving for another five years. These Dodges will be mechanically totaled in five years.
Hope you guys get to test a GLH. IMO, it's one of the better looking crossovers out there, even if it is just a poorly disguised Italian in a cowboy hat.
For 50k or less I could get a 2021-2022 AUDI SQ5.
Take that 50k and buy yourself a classic car. You can have it gone through for around the same cost. Bought a 66 Mustang, rebuilt engine, disc brakes all around. For less than 20k.
A car I would be interested to buy. But with a high price is out of my budget
did they give you the canadian MSRP on accident?
Bottom line,NO it’s not worth $50K! Is it a fun little A to B car sure. But I wouldn’t trust anything quality wise from “dodge” ever! Especially that the French own them now!
Made in Italy.
Yeahhhhh, you just know that this $52K jelly bean is going to be reliable. .. 🤣
I paid 55for a new Lexus nx200t f sport. 2023 out the door. Loaded with all options.
$50k? What the hell? . It's a cool car, but $30-35 maybe. normal people with a house and kids just can't swing these prices of new cars.. this economy is ridiculous.
Many times, 2 beautiful people end up having unattractive children. If Porsche and Alfa Romeo had a child…this is the unattractive child.
$52,000 for something branded as an economical model. The MPG better be pretty damn good in that thing.
52k should be for luxury or performance. That's a mini Durango with not even half of the power of one.
@@JIMDOG4442002 It has the same amount of power as the Pentastar V6 which is in most Durango's and very similar torque as the 5.7 HEMI with better mileage. And nearly every review has explained how nice the interior is and the quality of materials used. And, it's AWD and it's also a hybrid so you can go without even using the gas engine. The vehicle has a lot of positives going for it.
I just got one as a company car spec’d like this one. I love it! Great materials, more features than a maxed out RAV4 Prime that costs the same, and the fastest car in the class.
50k omg! It should be 27K
For 52k you could get a lot better vehicles. If dodge sold it maxed out at 35k they'd never keep up with hornet demand
This thing should recharge more the harder you drive it like Porsche does in their PHEVs
50K ,😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 they have lost their ever loving mind, I guessing the only place you’ll see a group of Hornets running together is in their commercials. I took my Pacifica into dealer, failed wheel bearing at 10k and the service writer asked if it was a Hybrid, I said no and he looked relieved and said good,,,,,,, and then said Chryslers Hybrid Technology just didn’t seem ready for prime time.
When I saw the commercials for this car I thought it was sporty, entry level econo car.
This is going to be in a great price range when it's used and 2 or 3 years old.
I just don't understand why they just don't have the gas engine charge the battery for the electric motor? Then you don't have to worry about having a place to charge it. Not everyone lives in a single family home with a garage.
Kind of slick looking! Y’all were in my hometown!! Wish I could’ve seen you!
I hope dodge sells a ton of base models. Mopar fans are not paying 50k for this. All the V8 fan boys are going to go buy a mustang now. Dodge is toast.
The top dart was 20k less and faster at the top of the line. If this thing is more successful than the dart I will be amazed
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY EVERYONE ✌️
Thanks, and you buddy😊
$52k for that?!!……I want whatever Stellantis is smoking.
The answer for me is a big fat NOPE... essentially charging $20 grand more for an electrified version of the Jeep Compass.
I have the R/T as a rental right now on vacation, but it handles and feels really good. Fun, quick little car but it’s not worth 40k-50k..
This car was supposed to start around 25k, how in the hell did we get to over 50k?
If it had a hemi 50k wouldnt sound to bad lol
Damn the only thing i like is the steering wheel and paddle shifters i need those in my scatpack
$50k with a Fiat engine... Like buying a pair of Yeezy's.
