  • *Episode features a tour of Turn and Burn RC Speedway as well as the Hobby shop and covers all A-Main races from that day.*
    Road Trip! Super excited to feature this location for the first time on the channel. Not only does this episode feature this RC speedway for the first time but also the first episode featuring RC Carpet Oval racing action!
    I've wanted to visit this track for a while now and was finally able to make it happen. Turn and Burn RC Speedway located in Winston Salem North Carolina and is an awesome RC facility that features a full Hobby shop as well as a great indoor carpet RC race track. Turn and Burn RC Speedway alternates track layouts each week from Oval racing to road course racing. I do have plans to return and also cover not only more Carpet oval racing but also some road course (touring) RC racing as well.
    I hope you all enjoy the episode as well as my first return to Legends RC racing in well over 20 years!
    If you missed the RJ Speed Legends build episode (which features some build advice and setup advice you can watch that episode here in this link. The link will also be featured at the end of the episode)

    Our legend class here in Mobile we have anywhere from 8 to 16 that show up on Thursday nights for RJ speed nights we call it now and man will be so close and qualifying in the heat races that it's the same thing we're 1,000 of a second off even during the race the top 10 or 1,000 or a couple thousands off of each other so one little slip up and then someone go from 6thto 1st in a heartbeat. A lot of people don't understand breakout racing because they think oh you're just following the leader if you can't go faster than anybody why do you pass and you can't pass in all this other stuff right well what they don't know is if you don't hit that number exactly every lap and you break out or you go a little bit slower you're not going to win and there's a strategy to it too like you can push another car across the line and make them break out or you could drive on the behind them and not pass them and give them pressure and then they take the fastest line or they open the throttle a little bit too much by switching their switch to high rates and then they'll break out there's other ways to make people break out and play a strategy and it's pretty fun breakout racing it is really close racing too our track is bigger than this of course we got the snowbirds track from 2019 or track owner bought but this is a nice little paper clip oval

    So you're saying you can increase your speed by increasing the throttle points on your remote just let me know I appreciate any help you can give me I do love the legend and we do run a breakout we do run a Legends race and it is a lot of fun thank you so much for your videos

    • @jbtricklerc
      @jbtricklerc  Рік тому

      Thank you for the comment Mr Rod Evans. Well it depends on how you have it setup already. If you have already set your system up at the ESC manual suggested settings. You are already at 100% speed output. Only way of changing it would be gearing or motor changes. However, using the end points in the radio system you could slow it down to run within the specified breakout times for such a class. Speeding it up would be in reference from going from the recently "slowed down" back to the normal 100%.
      This tuning is also only possible on certain transmitters that offer that feature. Some RTR radios are not capable. I hope you find this helpful and that it adds more clarity.

      I think I heard you say something about changing the camber on the Legend. Is it posible? We have a legend class with a 20t motor, CRC tires for the pavement parking lot. And he same for carpet racing. The car kinda front end hops around corners. Can you help.

    • @jbtricklerc
      @jbtricklerc  Рік тому

      @@RodEvens If I recall correctly, I believe I was referring to some people cutting some camber in the foam tires themselves. As far as adding camber to the actual suspension, the way it is currently setup Its not really possible. However, The Wheel hoping is normal with these very limited adjustment cars, but you can tame it with some additional spring adjustment and or weight adjustment if your class allows it. We moved weight around on these cars fairly often to tune them when we raced them on paved oval years ago.

  • @SIMCOMotorsportsTV
    @SIMCOMotorsportsTV 2 роки тому +1

    I'm not being negative, but, the legends cars look kind of slow to me...we're you guys running resistors on the motor or just have the throttle turned down on them.

    • @jbtricklerc
      @jbtricklerc  2 роки тому

      SIMCOMotorsportsTV no worries and no negativity taken. That's a very good and reasonable question. This particular Legends class featured in this video was a breakout class and limited to 5.5 Second laps (slowest class of the day). so the cars were tuned down to run those speeds. The same track also has another legends class that is not a breakout class and will run at faster speeds within a "spec" type set of rules. But this particular day they were not running that Legends class. I plan to run the other Legends class as well at some point. But, regardless of speed, it was great reliving my childhood and what got me into the hobby.

    • @jbtricklerc
      @jbtricklerc  Рік тому

      William, that's a great question and in my opinion, there is no perfect answer. When looking into pan cars, no matter the manufacturer, they are similar in tuning options and function the same. HyperDrive, Pemberton, KSG and a few others all offer cars. I've just personally always been a Hyper Drive fan as I had good customer service and help whenever I needed it right around the corner. Most tracks offer a class for more newer racers whether it be a breakout class or just a slower in general class. Still a lot of fun but gets you going. Now that for pan cars. some Carpet oval tracks still race the Legends cars as well by RJ Speed. A Much lesser expensive route to go and still an absolute blast to race, however, as far as tuning, there is much less you can do on a Legends car vs an actual pan car. I hope this reply helps. Thank you for the comment and support.

      Travis, great question and honestly I'm not 100% sure. I've seen both black and gray colored carpet. I'm pretty confident the grey carpet is the thinner low profile "office" style carpet. The black may be the same way as well just in different color. I'm sure most tracks would happily tell you as well if you reached out. @@Bobby-Love I can relate to it pricing itself out in years past. I went through a time of the same deal. Its good so many tracks offer classes for all price points these days. Its been a huge benefit to the racers. Even a lot of the manufacturers offer "stock no tuning" electronics to help keep costs down and such. I've done some open "mod" type racing before as well. Its a blast too, but I like having extra money stay in my wallet lol.

    • @Bobby-Love
      @Bobby-Love Рік тому +1

      Sorry I need to clarify myself. I'm a talker...this is long. In those days we had only ni-cads. Most classes used SCR's with red shrink wrap. Then there was the yellow SCE's. People were removing the SCE's yellow shrink wrap, then applying the red SCR shrink wrap. They were taking apart the 26 turn brushed stock class motors and truing the com and balancing them also. Faster motors were the results and of course faster lap times from the batteries.
      Then began the more "financially affluent infiltration" of people. Doctors, lawyers, pilots, etc; who them or their kids didn't respect anyone and it absolutely didn't matter if their's or your car was destroyed. Money was NO object. And they spend a lot at every track and hobby shop. I was in middle management at the time so that lends itself to my buying abilities back then.
      I was racing at two I believe now defunct tracks. One in Fort Mill SC called Mid Carolina Super Speedway and a track in King NC. I occasionally raced 1/12 scale carpet at a long since closed indoor track in Charlotte NC which was originally packed red dirt and fast! A new owner bought and carpeted it in the mid 90's and it was fast also.
      The chassis' of those days were the Lynx, anything Bolink and Hyperdrive. There was dirt cars which were often RC 10's then there were pan/oval cars. After stopping by the shop yesterday I was very happy to see how welcoming these people were. But my confusion lies within the now many different classes. I was drawn to start with a legends car for it's simplicity. Then I was hoping to soon step up to a class that had much more "adjustability" and some add on capability. I kinda geek on that stuff. I see there's transponders to buy also. If you'd have interest in throwing some ideas at me I can provide a number or an email address. Thank you for your videos. I am geeking AKA binging on your videos now. BTW....If you clink my avatar it should lead you to some videos of me as a semi pro musician and some recordings of my solo career.
