This is amazing! Actually so inspiring for me. I listen to a lot of men who do ultras and to watch a woman is so encouraging. Iv done 3 ultras. 2 50Ks and my first was a 50m in Oregon. Training now for another 50k in Oct. Husband was gone for a year and a half. 3 kids in sports and zero time I finally have a chance to train again. Not feeling super confident but watching this brought it back for me. Thank you and awesome job!
I highly recommend looking into Sally McRae and the Choose Strong community / podcast. She is a professional 100 mile and 200 mile runner and is incredibly inspirational. Her book Choose Strong is also a very good read!
@@TribeOfCooks oh yes iv been watching and listening to her and Courtney Dauwalter for years. They are at the top of their game for sure! Thank you though. Sweet recommendation!
As a smaller woman in the military as well. I love this video so much and it speaks to me in ways that you hit on the spot. You’re such an inspiration to us and we are grateful for you telling your story to the world. My favorite UA-camr 🤍
UA-cam randomly recommended this video, and I’m glad it did for various reasons. Last year I did my first 10K road race, and then my first 5K night trail race which were super fun. This year I have been contemplating doing a half or full road marathon, and maybe a half marathon trail race, so your video popping up was timely and helpful. I appreciate all the tips and learnings you mentioned, but particularly, being dad to two daughters, I appreciated the interaction you had with the mom, her comments, and your personal connection to what she said to her girls. My wife and I are working to inspire our girls to do tough things every day, not be cause they must, but because they can. Keep inspiring, and go rock that Leadville 100!
Great job!! Watched this while training for the NYC marathon. You are an inspiration! I’m 30 also and have dealt with open heart surgery, etc. Keep getting it! I live close to Leadville, it would be fun to watch!
You are absolutely right! Pretty girls/feminine girls can compete in sport and be great at them. Take Jessica Hull, Australian runner, who just broke the 2,000 meter world record and Faith Kipyegon, Kenyan runner, who holds the mile world record. Those are two beautiful women out of the many who are incredible and representing the long distance running scene.
Awesome job Amanda! You are going to do great Leadville! It's a tough race, but your attitude, determination, and strength, you can have an awesome day in Leadville!
Thank you for sharing this video! It was so interesting to hear how you managed to do this challenge which took so much of your time to prepare for and execute. It’s really important to see people set goals and see them through. That’s a winner mindset you have there for sure, which is so impressive to push yourself even those days you have other things you might rather do. Such a sweet dog btw❤
How have you only got 5k followers. This is so inspirational. Also super practical advice around nutrition on long runs. Pretty girls can kick ass 😎😎😎❤❤❤
Sure, but why are little girls taugh that the most important thing in life is what they look like and what other girls/women looks like? I mean do you hear little boys being encouraged to tell men that they are pretty? I’m Scandinavian and here we applaud people for accomplishments and not just looks (especially children are taught here to focus on academia, sports and music and such- not puttng their worth in their and others’ physical appearance). I know the pretty comment is meant as a compliment, but is it really if we think about it?! What it puts women and girls through to keep that up, in order to get that acknowledment from others. If girls/women aren’t deemed pretty/beautiful are they then less worthy and what does that do to those who aren’t told they are while hearing others are? It has a toxicity to it, since it also holds the judgment of sorting in a bunch of girls/women/people as not pretty/beautiful Guess this heads into gender studies, but it’s important to think about the words we use and why we give it worth and why we should rank people by physical appearance in hopes of making them happy or not. Plus why does it make anyone happy to notice what others look like?
@@soilgrasswaterair exactly this!! I think some people are just raised very old-fashioned with little exposure to other ways of life. They essentially live in bubbles. So they end up putting a higher value on how pretty a woman is than if they are intelligent, strong, talented, etc. They've grown up in a really dated environment where women's faces and bodies are viewed more like trophies or objects, unfortunately, and neglect women/girls as whole human beings. I grew up in a similar very limiting environment and it takes a lot of effort/unlearning to detach from that mentality.
@@calrey the point is that often girls and women deemed as “girly” or “pretty” can’t also be athletic, intelligent, etc. etc. She is proving the stereotype wrong. Pretty much the plot of legally blonde lol
Loved this video! I had been saving it for a few days so I could just really watch, listen and enjoy! Great execution of all points. I was smiling through the entire video-so happy for your win and especially for coming in under your time goal!
Just found this video and channel! I have been curious about the leadville 100 since reading Born to Run. I'm excited to see your future videos and good luck! You did an awesome job:) Pretty girls can run too!
1st female overall is such a great feeling!! 🎉🎉🎉 If it's the race I'm thinking of, my friend Shane finished a bit ahead of you in 6th overall for it, said the cloudcover was a nice respite when it was overhead.
I just found your channel and this was so cool/fun to watch! And I loved the part about the little girls and being athletic + feminine 🥺 you're awesome! And inspiring me to get back into running! Thank you 💕
Hi Amanda, congrats with your first place! Be careful with leaving your poles at the aid station. A lot of races will disqualify you when you do not finish with them if you started with them.
Congratulations! And then telling your guy "Good job" on his training run, after you killed your race! 😂❤ All the focus on your looks and femininity seems so odd to me, though... I admire you for your strength, focus, determination, and talent... I truly don't care what you look like. Courtney is a huge inspiration to women AND men, out there with other kick butt ladies proving that women compete on a much more equal field with men in ultras over 100 miles... and she does it with zero cares given to her appearance. Let's focus on what we can do as women, not what we look like doing it. You are an awesome bad@ss, and I'm more excited about your top 10 finish overall than the first place female finish! 🎉🎉 I know this sounds negative, but I loved your video, and I'm glad I found your channel. Subscribed. Good luck this weekend!!
Totally understand where you’re coming from!! I’m so used to metric - but this race was measured as a 50k, so I can see how that could be clarified better!! Thank you!
Really enjoyed that you went through what could go better and what was done right and what needed more work Impressed with the result, you did great, love the vibes🤘
I notice you don't wear any head gear. How do you manage sweat dripping intp your eyes for a long run? I get annoyed when sweat plus sunscreen stings my eyes!! 😅
13:00 "I heard there was a woman out there... lost... wondering around." "Hmm. Do we know what I placed?" The amount of concern for that lost woman is touching. 😅
Congratulations. I would like to know the brand of your hydration vest because I do not recognize the brand symbol. Thank you and I wish you a great succes on your next events.
