    Good day proving there's work to do all year round weather permitting. That log side line is a good one to get into. A guy I know is into it has a yard various sheds for storing and drying. He's doing pretty well off it. ATB 💪👍

      Yes I think that was the perfect time to start business as the demand is through the roof of energy bills being so high and people were hurting back to the old ways of wood! Thank you for the comment.

    one man band is always the way mate!!! I've taken on people and quickly realised that the cons out weigh the pros for me personally! good video champ keep it up!

      Thank you I appreciate the comment. One man band is so much easier however you just can't scale your business alone...

    I don't let a little rain affect me, the only time I'll cancel is if is hammering down & if me working will create a soggy mess everywhere... Just put your hood up and crack on ☔
    I enjoy working by myself sometimes but have a few guys with you makes it possible to take on the bigger jobs... I do all the ladder work, cutting, pruning, strimming etc. I have my guys do all the clean up operations and mowing (occasionally giving them tips and training on what I'm doing to expand in the future)... It's all about what's best for you and your business, do you want to stay solo or do you want to expand one day with multiple vans on the road?
    I really like your attitude to work and your business mind too... I wish I had that motivation at 21 👏🏾

      Thank you very much for the comment. I do plan to get multiple vans out on the road and when I have more than one man I operate in a similar way. Thank you for the kind words. 🍀

    Good work mate! Sledge hammer and a splitting wedge is a great 'budget friendly' way to tackle the logs that you can't get with an axe.
    On discipline, I always get as much ready the night before. Uniform by the bed, tools ready to go, small items/consumables in a bucket.
    Food is important too, I've had plenty of days where I got the shakes because I didn't bring enough food or water. Now I even keep an emergency bag of nuts in the vehicle lol.
    Are you wearing ear plugs with the petrol tools mate?

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +1

      Great comment very informative! Thanks you. Ear plug are something I definitely should use I'll get myself a nice pair over xmas. The splitting wedged are also a fantastic suggestion, is there any brand that's better than another of us a wedge a wedge.

    Excellent work and knowledge. Tip- in front of customers etc call 'dirt' SOIL and call 'bush' a HEDGE . I'm about to do city Guilds tractor certificate and am v nervous about the reverse turn, which you seem to be very good at LOL .I'm crap at reverse manoeuvres even in a car

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +2

      One thing I will say is the bigger the trailer the easier it is to reverse! This seems backwards but it's true. But best of luck mate I'm sure you smash it. Thank you for the tips

    Property looked really nice when you were done. Would have been great to see the bed cleanup and the removal of the weeds. There was a lot of cleanup not included in the video. I guess some people are here for the chats and advice, but I’m here for the actual cleanup. :)

    Did you accumulate that whole trailer of waste from those two jobs? Hard graft mate though well done!
    I worry for your head with the lack of at least a caged bulkhead in the van mate, a little shunt and you’re gonna find your head somewhere between that ladder and the windscreen!

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +1

      I pretty much accumulated that whole load yesterday yes I had maybe a quarter of a trailer when leaving the yard this morning. Although in my previous video I did leave two bags of waste at my first job as the trailer was previously. You're right about a bulkhead in my van however with it being such a small van I kind of need all the room I can get so it's a risk I'm willing to take for the time being.
      Thank you for the comment.

    Go back 10 years or so and I struggled to give any firewood away for free, even oak and ash. Now everyone wants it. Logs have gone up in price and loads of people are running log burners etc.
    treat yourself to a decent splitting maul, fiskars or simimilar. Will make mincemeat of those bigger rounds.

    • @HDGardenCare

      Wow it's mad to think how we've reverted back to the old ways and how it's big business now!

    • @paulf2529

      Worth fitting or getting your own log burner fitted. I heat my house almost exclusively using two 3kw log burners and the oil boiler only does the hot water.
      A big saving of atleast £600 in heating oil each year.
      Worth reaping the savings yourself rather than selling everything.

      I plan to moving forward it would be great to warm our family home for free with fire wood and I would love to be able to help like that it's something we will have in place for next winter!

    I guess winter time we could manage working alone but the only way to scale a business is to do it with a team. When I was booked 3 weeks ahead in the mowing season, I understood I needed at least 3 people team to handle my workload. How do you quote for the jobs please when you work with a team, do you get penny-pinching clients who can't see the value of 2 people working on the job at the same time? If I would work alone I would be stuck in one garden for a few days as I only work for max 4 hours a day, so with a team, I can double my hours.

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +1

      We all have them penny pinching clients but I've tried to weed them out as far as possible if you don't value me or Leon's work then I tend to stay away from these customers.
      It's so disheartening when your clients done appreciate your work and you put so much effort and time into it!
      I am talking fairly short term in this video which can cause a little bit of confusion.
      Thank you for the continued support!

      You hit the nail on the head I've just brought welder so I'll be learning and welding a few spots up and hopefully mate myself a tail gate out of the box section and steel mesh may also convert into a cage trailer! That the wood is all starting to rot.

    What’s happening with Leon he’s been ill but has he lost abit of his mojo for gardening mate

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +1

      I can confirm Leon is still very keen. He genuinely was ill last week. I told him we didn't have enough work today because I thought I could manage alone but Bradford was shut Saturday so that is why I had to leave the job! Otherwise I would have completed my day in plenty for time it's just one of them. It kind of comes across as he takes it off I should mention it in my next video.

    • @THETATTOOGARDENER83

      @@HDGardenCare that’s cool when you said in the video about going alone I was worried you were going through what I’ve had earlier in the year
      Hope to see Leon back soon you both make a great team mate

      @HDGardenCare  11 місяців тому +1

      @@THETATTOOGARDENER83Leon is a great lad, we work so well together! I really want to scale the business and get my power team built however this is challenging at the moment but when the longer days are back and I got some landscaping more landscaping projects. Then it's going to be a different ball game I'm taking short term in the video just speaking about my winter plan more than anything. My goals and vision are still there!

    Anything you can't split with an axe, you will be able to split with a splitting wedge and sledge hammer.
    I like to use a muller high grade splitting wedge. This is the blue one if you google it, and these are farr superior to other types eg wood grenade etc. Ive split some massive rings and really cross grained impossible logs.
    For removing ivy, a bricklayers trowel slid behind is the quickest method I've found you can leaver off and loosen big chunks very quickly.
