i saw him live at Munich a few days before the Hurricane festival ... it was the best show i ever witnessed :) don't miss out his next visit to Europe :)
Ranks right up there with the Bobfest version of All Along the Watchtower..if Neil had said to me "hey, I am thinking I'll do a version of A Day In the Life, I would have said he was crazy, but hearing is believing and he never asks me anyway. Absolutely everything.Wow.
I caught the worcester show too.. fantastic.. Neil plays like the light from some guy welding.. brilliantly brilliantly bright.. I almost worry about him.. how long can he keep it up?
Im usually very cynical when it comes to beatles covers. but i have to say i really like how neil young sings this. I think its a great version and very suitable for concerts. I saw him sing it at glastonbury on telly and it sent a shiver down my spine so it must have really been somthing to actually be there
I agree 100%. I really fucking love this cover, its just amazing. He defiantly captured the emotion Lennon and McCartney conveyed in the original song. I love it.
@ShineOnCrazyDiamond1 yes u must. i was lucky enough to see him, long long time ago. i love him. he walked off stage when the audience wouldnt let him play his accoustic music. he came back & gave them the rock they wanted saying, i'm never ever coming back to pittsburgh again. i love him. i love how he was riding around in a pick up in the mud with jimi hendrix when he was Sposed to be on stage wi. stills nash & crosby....hahahahaha.......i love him. perfekt.
this makes me sad, because it makes me realize that John never got a chance to perform this awesome song live. Imagine if John did it live in concert, that would have been amazing.
@blsplr51 He is a Canadian citizen but a master of the American invention, discovery, creatiion, of rock n roll. He is a world icon in the same league with Dylan and Lennon. one of the gods of rock n roll. I love Neil Young
wow, I think this rendition of Day in the Life is the best and even in some ways better than the original-- Neil sure does emulate the Hendrix like guitar feedback at the end but with his own unique style. what I really have always like about his music is the grittiness that permeates his sound. McCartney surely must have listened to this and enjoyed this rendition. man Niel, you RocK-- your a great muscian
my dear friend, if there's one thing certain, then it is that the original ahhhs are Lennon's and not Macca's (it's one of these songs they actually did make together). As for the ones in the Neil Young concert - most probably done by some of his stage musicians (doesn't need to be play back after all!) Good cover after all, especially given the absence of a classical orchestra for the psychedelia touch
@jasonriggs What do you mean never got the chance?Sgt Pepper was recorded in 1966/67 and John died in 1980 that's 14 years of a opportunity to play the song live,he had the chance he just couldn't be bothered.
yeah, you're right, but hats off to neil young for giving it his own twist. he's a massive beatles fan and proves it here by getting as near as possible to the original recorded version. imagine how someone like U2 would butcher this with there effects laden guitars, over produced so called live sound and bono's grating voice. i think neil's version has a nice raw quality that he pulls off! i'm a beatles purist by the way and don't think anyone should cover them but i'll let him off! top man!!!
Love it! The one in Calgary was scarier. John lives.
I have worked Farm Aid concerts and this year was BY AND FAR the best I have ever seen Neil Young. This rendition was amazing!
If you haven`t seen Neil play "A day in the life" live, you have no frame of reference here. One of the best music moments I`ve ever seen.
THE greatest song ever written covered by one of the greatest artists ever to set foot on earth. Speechless. No words to describe this.
Ever?
No one else should have done this ...the man, the legend...Ladies and Gentleman the one and only Neil Young
Poor Willie....what a tough act to follow. This was without a doubt one of the greatest concerts of my life, and I've been to a few. Thanks Neil!
no one plays with more feeling than mr. young--bar none. long live the king. boutlerontarioman-mr. weber
The Beatles' greatest song covered by my favorite guitarist!!! Thank you, Lord!
In person this was magical. It was Mr. Young's Opus.
From the fifth row I was in awe...
i saw him live at Munich a few days before the Hurricane festival ... it was the best show i ever witnessed :)
don't miss out his next visit to Europe :)
What a solid performance! One of the best covers of this song by a legend like Neil of course!
Proud to say I was there 7th row.

Ranks right up there with the Bobfest version of All Along the Watchtower..if Neil had said to me "hey, I am thinking I'll do a version of A Day In the Life, I would have said he was crazy, but hearing is believing and he never asks me anyway. Absolutely everything.Wow.

Neil Young covers my favourite Beatles song and owns it.
i think its his voice when he sings the verses that gets me the most
Neil, just too much, amazing.
John Lennon would have been smiling down on his performance! Well done Neil..Rock On!
Yeah we left after Neils performance, it couldn't get any better.

I caught the worcester show too.. fantastic..
Neil plays like the light from some guy welding.. brilliantly brilliantly bright.. I almost worry about him.. how long can he keep it up?

Long live Neil!!
Probably the only Beatles cover I've heard that can come close to the quality of the original.
I agree 100%. I really fucking love this cover, its just amazing. He defiantly captured the emotion Lennon and McCartney conveyed in the original song. I love it.
neil young is great same with the beatles = amazing
@ShineOnCrazyDiamond1 yes u must. i was lucky enough to see him, long long time ago. i love him. he walked off stage when the audience wouldnt let him play his accoustic music. he came back & gave them the rock they wanted saying, i'm never ever coming back to pittsburgh again. i love him. i love how he was riding around in a pick up in the mud with jimi hendrix when he was Sposed to be on stage wi. stills nash & crosby....hahahahaha.......i love him. perfekt.
Sensacional.Mágico!
wow.. me too.. I was there.. wow.. man..! wow..
@iamurfather69 a Canadian citizen with the American sense of rock n roll and freedom, oh and over thirty years of living in California. Rock on
OMG!
who'd have thought it possible?
Only Neil Young would have the vision to do this insanely difficult song successfully.
wowowowowowowowow!
Niel could sing any song!!
this makes me sad, because it makes me realize that John never got a chance to perform this awesome song live. Imagine if John did it live in concert, that would have been amazing.
He could have. I doubt he wanted to. Its not like he died in 67
every great artist sings beatles' songs...why? because they are the greatest band in history...period.
neild young blew me away with this song.
@blsplr51 He is a Canadian citizen but a master of the American invention, discovery, creatiion, of rock n roll. He is a world icon in the same league with Dylan and Lennon. one of the gods of rock n roll. I love Neil Young
Good for Neil Young. He's still around and doing well. Nonetheless, he's not the guy to cover this song. And the Beatles will never be "gone."
Great Comment! Could not have said it better.
wow, I think this rendition of Day in the Life is the best and even in some ways better than the original-- Neil sure does emulate the Hendrix like guitar feedback at the end but with his own unique style. what I really have always like about his music is the grittiness that permeates his sound. Basically this is awesome.
@what1111000 He also covered imagine.
It's in the suggestions.
They are all amazing covers!
after crush & ants marching this was that best song at the entire concert!
The original is where its at for most things but mad props to Neil for making it believable (not an easy task with this tune).
Rivals anything from Monterey. If you watch one video all year - this is the one.
Ya, qmort, I saw the show in L.A., in Oct, '78. It was so fucking loud. Neil was wearing a Jackson Browne t-shirt. What a memory, huh?
@jasonriggs What do you mean never got the chance?Sgt Pepper was recorded in 1966/67 and John died in 1980 that's 14 years of a opportunity to play the song live,he had the chance he just couldn't be bothered.
look at him go!
good cover
You're dead right. Down by the River was the best song of the night though! And those extra few chorus's of Rockin' in the Free World were great!
I MUST SEE NEIL YOUNG Li
VE
this is even better then the original song...
He's probably the only guy who can cover this song.
yeah, you're right, but hats off to neil young for giving it his own twist. he's a massive beatles fan and proves it here by getting as near as possible to the original recorded version. imagine how someone like U2 would butcher this with there effects laden guitars, over produced so called live sound and bono's grating voice. i think neil's version has a nice raw quality that he pulls off! i'm a beatles purist by the way and don't think anyone should cover them but i'll let him off! top man!!!
Anyone remember the Rust Never Sleeps Tour when John Lennon's version played immediately before Neil opened with Sugar Mountain?
i agree
young beatles😁
String Mutilation! I love this guy so fuckin much. I can't wait to see him in April. Hope he does this song.
Saw Mellencamp on Letterman the other night and wondered whatever happened to the Farm Aid concerts. Do they still go on?
he still has the pasion of an 18 year old!
