- My cuban friend instructor was opening the event of the bull shark feeding time before the tourisms come down and by an accident the shark bite is harm ,afters months of hospitalisation he return to feed those animals again
this is jose (aka pepe in Mexico). Originally from Cuba,he's a dive instructor in Akumal now and is fine with a hard core scar on his arm. I just met him and he was my dive instructor last week. An extremely nice and humble man and as others have written readily admits it was a stupid move. He's fine and an incredible instructor.
Im reading the comments to find the end result..thanx glad hes ok
@@justinhealey2408 he’s ok
Is his nickname Lefty? Just kidding. Respect to title calling it accident instead of attack. & respect for this man who clearly has nerves of steel. Anyone who can remain that calm in this situation is obviously an excellent instructor who thinks about others before himself. We all make mistakes but how we react to them is what separates ppl. Impressive.
Unglaublich idiotisch ist der treffender Ausdruck.
Und dann noch Tauchlehrer ❗
Füttert unbedarft Haie an ❗
Einfach nur Dumm und selbst Schuld ❗
Hoffentlich bringt er nicht noch andere Leute in Gefahr ❗❗❗
I had a buddy that died cave diving in Akumal.
Thousands of dives and I have never tried to “play” with shark. Observed them from a distance. Respect them but not encourage or attract them in any way. Play with fire and you get burned. My hats off to the guy for not shooting to the surface. He stayed calm and came up “reasonable” slow. Obviously he had some depth there.
Exactly what I thought. "Calling" them in like that means they'll be aggressive when they arrive. His presence of mind to surface slowly is pretty amazing considering the fear, pain and blood in the water.
25 metros. Tuvo suerte, no pudo descompresionar pero salió bien lento a pesar del estrés .
Muy profesional Diepa.
Tienen la costumbre de torear a los tiburones y ese día no le salió como esperaban.
at least he was wearing a shark proof speedo...
What a fkn idiot. A soon as he put his arm out with that small piece of fish, I KNEW HIS FOREARM BECAME A SNACK FOR THAT SHARK.
lol
what the idiot did was pull the fish away 🙄... like why ? all it wanted was the little fishy 🐟 ... it immediately let go after a quick bite that lasted no more than a second but still did major damage.
A gstring😀
Lol exactly wtf..might be worst part of the video
Wife and I did this dive at the same location back in 2000. 90 feet down at the mouth of a river and waited 25 minutes until the Bull sharks arrived, 3 of them. I always remember this big British guy with his fancy camera wanting to get that perfect shot. So he decides to move beside one of the Cuban divers who was feeding the sharks. Well the shark came in and was more interested in the guys camera. The shark started to push the camera with his nose, buddy is trying to swim backwards, drops the camera and punches the shark on the nose which sent it back into the murky water. Another group came down and we had about 30 divers on the sea bed to watch the show. I remember we got into a decompression dive towards the end and had to hang on to this concrete platform at 10 feet and decompress for 15-20 minutes before surfacing. Quite a few people had run out of air and had to surface early. I remember being down to 150PSI. Just made it. All in all it was an experience, a very expensive one which included a 3 hour bus ride to this site and the shits on the way back. You can't leave ham sandwiches out all night. The Cubans thought you could.
LOL
because Cubans can eat a ham sandwhich left out all night, not the fragile western stomach though. you aint never seen the shit they eat? pieces of shit hanging on hooks batting flies away with a broom? end up eating bot flies and all that lol.
This was amazingly stupid and I'm glad I read it
The perfect ending 😂
Pity you all survived
I know this guy regrets this experience. The last thing I’d do is try to hand feed a 400lb + Bull Shark. The fact he didn’t panic probably saved his life. They were pretty deep it looks like.
Yes, he had the presense of mind to surface slowly and decompress. That blood in the water had to have been a concern. I thought it was a mistake too to call in sharks like that leading to an aggressive arrival.
Bulls are very aggressive and unpredictable
25 mts
Feeding sharks In a pair of knickers 😂😂😂
I'm not a diver nor feed sharks are gators are salties, but I thought he was an idiot to feed sharks in those, give me a cage, are at least a chain nail suit, lol.&he wonders why he was bleeding .
Shark was offended by his mankini, and enacted the appropriate punishment!
I wanted to see it after he got out of the water and on the boat, what a cliffhanger.
Yess me too
Salió a la superficie por una escalera que tenemos en la plataforma de entrada.
No chain mail suit or gloves and feeding sharks= stupid
just passion for this animals
Drew Maglio feeding a bull shark at that. One of the most aggressive if not the most aggressive. Clever so clever.
My first thoughts exactly. More that stupid. He's lucky that the sharks didn't follow him and take a couple of bites out of him, as he was "chumming" the water as he was surfacing.
Stupidity is a great teacher, lucky he still had an arm
+RCW31 👍
It wasn't no 'accident' from the sharks perspective.
That’s what happens when you feed sharks. This is why they come close to humans then bite us..it’s those scuba tour guides and “shark experts” who feed them by hand
the only accident was someone let that guy put a tank on. I don't care how good a diver or experienced he was. It's harder to believe he's an instructor with students in the water doing that without any protection. Putting others lives at risk. Way to go pal!!
What a bummer. Big Bull shark.
No one is forced to go down there with the dude, people make their own choices and you gotta live with it. Personally i'm not going down deep (or shallow) to feed Bullies, those fuckers are real aggressive and wind up real quick
@AnahitaDam
They have to maintain a healthy ascent rate and even this is pretty fast. They also skipped the safety stop. Ascending at the speed that you would like would probably render the diver with even far more serious complications than this shark bite!
Why do people have to push the limits? Hand feeding sharks? Hmm It was one of those, "Hey, hold my beer, watch this." moments.
Corina Sailing Charters 🍺 😂😭😵
You know half of ice patience are there after the words " hey look what I can do "
The other half is there after words "that's nothing, look what I can DO"
Damn that was nasty, yet preventable!
Is it such a good idea to make the connection of food and divers/humans for the sharks?
No.
entirely avoidable incident I agree !
Cuban shark diving operations might not be so professional about these things.
It's not good and we know that b.c. a shark attacked a few persons after idiots feeded him.
You can see the precious result .right here in this video.😂😂😂😂
everybody knows you never feed sharks wearing SPEEDO'S
como sufrimos sus amigos y familia con este accidente!!!!! y él no permitío que le hicieran nada al tiburón.....si es especial este amigo. Mucha salud para ti y los tuyos.
@PigsCanFly99
I was diving at this very same site twice. It's a wreck near 3 all-inclusive resorts and there are bullsharks at 25 meters deep. You will descent near the shore while following a slope. On both occasions my Suunto computer told me that I had exceeded no-deco limits. I didn't like it at all as water temperature was only 24 celcius so I was freezing but had to observe decompression times. At that point I didn´t care about the sharks anymore, I just wanted to get out.
Jose was possibly Cuba's best diver and has a great deal of respect and love for the sharks. He acknowledged that this was his mistake not the shark's. He has more guts than the arm chair critics who condemn him or think that this video was funny. He also had the presence of mind to make a safe ascent and keep the others away from him while he did. Before he moved to Mexico, I saw him and he was bearing a pretty horrific scar but no ill will to the shark.
myousiknlaw still it's beyond stupid
He learned his lesson...hopefuly!
Thank you for this comment he is a great guy and instructor he mentored me as well as his brother in mexico and hands down two of the best guys and divers I know
He still put others at risk hand feeding a shark. Rather crystal clear
Why would he have ill will towards that shark? The shark is an apex predator at home in its domain. The guy is intentionally putting himself others in harms ways feeding such a magnificent creature like that. We humans are the problem, not the so-called animals.
I've just been to Santa Lucia with the guys from Shark's friends.
They are great!
Incredible how calm he remains after the bite!!!!!
Shock Takes some time to wear out then Adrenaline and the Pain comes and you pass out.
The male shark was calm yes, but the diver was scared shi77less.
You asked for that
we were about 85 feet and it was a 4 minutes dive when the injuries happen
What were the injuries? I hear the computer beeping too. How deep were you?
Should have never teased the shark and pulled the food away from underneath its mouth. You don't want angry bullsharks inches away from your limbs, dimwits.
Ophidian yes I totally agree he should have just let him have the fish ! Duh
The shark was like, you wanna fuck with me? Stop with that shit! And then it bit him and swam away.
@@divisix024 pity it wasn't his head.
@@christopherfarrington9270 just can't help urself! Boy there is always 1 in the group.. 🙄
The victim being an instructor, he seemed to be in control and nowhere near panicking. In fact he even seems to be making his safety stop and he gives an OK sign at 2:40.
Those Cuban divemasters/instructors dive everyday 2-3 dives a day, takes a lot to get them anywhere near panic.
Hey brother y al final cuántos puntos fueron? Siento mucho lo que te pasó, pero no debiste hacerlo. Horrible...!
I'm getting more and more fascinated by scuba and free diving. But the ocean freaks me out and not by the animals per se. But that endless water just gives me the chills😬
You have to try really hard to even view these large animals. I've dove with the bull sharks - lemons- blues- greys off Jupiter, FL and the only reason they showed up was because they've been trained by our instructor when called for their sushi chum line. This experience only helped to learn that you have absolutely need to fear them. Just don't make any loud noises (with your body movements) and they will ignore you. The trick is to just move calmly and relaxingly and you're practically invisible to them.
If you leave them alone , they leave you alone. If you splash around on the surface like a wounded seal, then a shark still won't even eat you, because you taste WRONG.
If you try to reach out to touch them.... or chase any ocean critter then, it's just a matter of time, someday Nemo might be aggressive right back at you.
I've dove a lot and only viewed one beautiful 6 ft shark in hawaii while free diving. He was far away.
Don't try it.The ocean has been savaged by divers. Nothing anymore to really see.Their habitat is devastated compared 40 years ago.Diving is today an empty soul business. That is why I stopped.
Have you watched the " No Limits- Audrey Mestre Documentary " she was a freediver and something terribly went wrong and it's all caught on camera.. its an incredible story and should have never of happened. Not like this anyway 😒 it's a must watch .. let me know what you think.. its on UA-cam under the title " No Limits Audrey Mestre Documentary "....also watch David Shaw's last dive . David Shaw went down to retrieve a man's body from 10 yrs earlier who died free diving again the entire story was captured on camera.
@Topesio66
It wasn't a reefshark but a bullshark. I was diving at that location in january and the smallest one was over 2 metres. The biggest one exceeded 3 metres!
Bulls can be very dangerous but what surprised me: once the divemaster stopped feeding them the sharks were no longer interested in the divers. They didn't become pushy but actually continued to keep a distance from us. They are being fed for over 10 years but are nevertheless still wild animals and mostly shy for people.
Don't pet sharks?
Bulls are not recreational sharks
Was he ok? what was the outcome?
Happy now are ya?...serves you right!
LOL...... WTF is wrong with people. Democrats should etay outta the water
Diving in a speedo nuff said
I finished my PADI open water diver course week ago :) hope this will never happen to me
Was the accident his choice in swimwear?

I met this guy at a hotel... He had some sick scars
How deep was it ?
Serves you right. Don't feed wild animals! This endangers everybody because you are conditioning them to associate humans with food.
cuba or scuba??
Another good reason not to feed sharks
I think he should have respected that shark more, it was a silly move to tease it by pulling the food away from its mouth, it most likely was a reaction much like snatching. Lesson learnt and I'm sure he probably won't do that again.
That's why you don't hand feed sharks. Especially Bullsharks. But at least he proved to be a pro by calmly ascending to exit the water as quick as possible. That probably saved his and the other's lives, or at least made the situation less dangerous.
It's not a shark attack if you try to hand feed one. You tempt a shark with bait don't be surprised if he gets a part of you too.
I just went diving with the sharks. The guy I went with says he has been doing it for 23 years. I think it must be the same guy.
the instructor s name is Lemay??
Bull sharks are just too aggressive and unpredictable. Tiger sharks are dangerous, too, but better for this kind of activity. However, wearing protective gear reduces the chances of this kind of injury.
welp, that about sums up everyones worst fear, being bit by a shark and then having your blood in the water which they can smell miles away. wow.
Nice job bro, glad to see this
Me: hey wanna go shark feeding in the nude?
Shark :YES
Technically this is what is known in the trade as a “snaccident”
blood looks so cool at that depth, being all green like that. As for the diver.....lesson learned. He got away lucky too. He could have lost his hand or arm! No surprise, you can here his dive comp beeping to slow his ascent rate.
Mess with the bull, you get the horns. AND that is one unhappy dive computer.
That's the "you done fucked up" alarm...
That is NOT how you feed a shark, not that I ever have, but I've become an expert from watching Shark Week!
yes this is how you feed a shark your arm from a trained dumbass shark expert lol.
is there sharks in holguin :/
This is crazy! Humans should not be feeding sharks!
the guy just wanted a scar bit by shark? than he would say like i survived the accident! the shark was as big as a ship! LOL. so silly.
I feel when we go into any body if water we should not act surprised or be upset at any fish that causes us harm. It obvious we need breathing devices to be in their world. After all we share this world with other living creatures also.
Comliments! Very clever!
You feck with the bull, you get the horns.
I'm glad your friend is okay!
Sorry, scubadvd. There was no safety stop made. The general practice is to do a safety stop of 3 minutes at roughly 5 meters. Given that the clip is itself only three minutes long, we can see no such safety stop happened. The beeping you are hearing is his comp telling him he is ascending too quickly and ignoring the safety stop. They don't appear to be too deep however, and given the circumstances a rapid ascent is warranted. They seem to be at least keeping to a slow speed than the bubbles.
Me: sees instructor bleeding
Also me: imma head out. I don’t need to outswim the sharks. Just an idiotic instructor
Teasing a bullshark is so freaking stupid... they're the most aggressive shark ever! come on!
Amen!! You gotta be a special kind of STUPID to feed Bull Sharks...jackASS!!
Its not an accident the poor bastard went into that water on purpose.
The Travel Channel is looking to find the person who filmed this and the person bitten by the shark. Is Dieppa his name? If anyone has a way to get in touch with him, please get back to me. ***THANKS***
Si es diepa yo lo conozco porque modelaba en el hotel donde el trabaja, y sucedio estando yo alla fue terrible y tiene unos cuantos puntos en el brazo el pobre no es facil lo que le sucedio.
Thanks Shark!
Can you imagine getting bit and because of how deep you dove have to ascend slowly to prevent the bends? No way! I have to give this guy respect because he didnt panick and ascended slowly as many probably would have. I know i would have been like get me the f outta here and had suffered damage from bolting to the surface! 🏆
has I said the others sharks didn't get interest of the blood there were about 4 to 5 down there,,
he is in no pain, he's just making a safety stop, you can hear the watches going off. so i think the he was not in too much pain and he made it out okay..
I know you have to slowly decompress and come up but that blood I bet it would be so so scary worrying it would return
Still holding on to the bait fish too lol.
That's what he gets for wearing those got damn booty shorts...LOL
Feed Bull Sharks? One of the most aggressive species, if not The most! Guess they’re hoping for Darwin Awards.
Pat the little puppy dog again, sharks are so friendly. Lesson learnt I hope.
Get out of their environment and home just leave them alone
Halloween 14 years ago. Also, puts some god damn trunks on.
Susky, they weren't really to deep, so in that case a 3 min safety stop is not necessarily. And after all, if u get bitten by a shark and are bleeding alot, I think u wanna get back to the surface as fast as possible, even if its dangerous...
Serves him right, play silly games win silly prizes.
Lazaro sei magico.
"All those dangling legs🦵 🍗 🦈
making me hungry"
Dude knew better than to pull some shit 💩 like this, he knows better now
Nice spedo
No se tocan los animales. Y el compañero que espera para hacerle un torniquete en vez de tanto filmar?
after the bite = deco xD Divecomputer goes crazy
I see that this was on Halloween!
good judgment comes from experience, experience from poor judgment...if someone is truly responsible and not reckless, they don't hand feed large predators. If he had been more respectful, it would not have had to be.
He do be getting bit on Halloween doe
He thought it was a shark puppy, who'd play with it's food...
"Gimme that fukin fish son of bitch!"
There is a lot wrong with the decisions this guy makes. As a general practice, it is a bad idea to feed sharks because if it happens at the same locations for long enough, a feeding expectation starts to brew. This is bad for other divers. If you are going to feed sharks, try hard to have some sort of extension to hold the bait. This leaves you room for error. Lastly, don't yank the bait away as he does at 1.21. This makes the shark think the prey is fleeing.
He shouldn't feed them at all, full stop.
It makes Sharks associate humans as food, and can endanger the lives of other Divers. Very irresponsible behaviour.
La proxima vez, espero que se ponga el traje protector!!! Next time, I hope he uses the chainmail suit!!!
I thought that sharks go into a feeding frenzy when they smell blood and they can detect blood from miles away .
a close up of that speedo is enough to make anyone/anything lose their appetite
They're attracted to fish blood not really blood from a human
So this video is pretty much ancient now, but all I can really say is god damn. I know that for the most part sharks don't want or like the we taste. So most bites are from shark curiosity or human error or a little of both. Looked to me as the shark just had a quick turn into that frenzy mode they have cause it didn't really look to want your buddies arm. I believe those were bull sharks which are particularly aggressive so I'm pretty sure if it decided it was gonna eat more it would have. Especially since for the most part y'all surfaced a little fast for scuba, but y'all seem to still keep calm.
good job guy👍👏👏one more
He was lucky that he didn't loose his arm. He was loosing a lot of blood.
Diver.. hares some food mr. shark.
Shark.. I know, I see you.
sharks can see very far under water but they have problems to recognize stuff by sight on close range. Then they use their ampulae lorenzini which detect electrical signals which are produced by every muscle in every being.
And if one baites a shark so he comes to close to use its eyes and has to rely an the electrical field: voi-là ons has created an accident
What do u expect feeding a shark from your own hand!
the guy is in pain i think..i guess inside water u are cooler, so u don't keep as much adrenaline in your body
This dude was fucking asking for it. Dangling bait out underwater from your hand? I mean wow.
Noticed that these sharks (Bull) are much quicker at maneuvering than either a Great White or Tiger, very quickly turned on him and bit him.
