Bull Shark Encounter: Bimini, Bahamas

- Witness the majesty of this large bull shark that ventured into the marina while we were cleaning fish after a successful day of fishing on the ocean. This behavior is a testament to bull sharks acute sense of smell, an ability that plays a crucial role in its survival and ability to excel in a wide array of aquatic habitats.

dont feed the wild life people
OKAY, DON QUAZNO: THAT WOULD INCLUDE HALF OF THE HUMAN RACE
Its actually not harmful to feed fish, many scuba charters have shark feeding observation dives from reef shark all the way up to great white
Dayron Uzquiano k
Matthew Meek a
Oh it is not harmful for the fish. But sharks get a connection with mankind and food, and that is a trigger for more shark attacks on humans. For example, this is why it is forbidden to feed sharks in Florida.
The thing that gets me the most is how the shark can swim around so effortlessly in still water without making a single ripple. Thats pretty nerve racking when you think about it.
thats 250 million years of evolution for you.
Cause he's UNDER the water lol
@@SteelRhinoXpressthat’s not evolution. He’s just under water.

Very quiet and peaceful water with a big surprise moving under it in stealth mode, wow.
Bull sharks are some of the most aggressive sharks. Use caution with it. Feeding it only makes it very dangerous for others who may not know it’s there. Not a good idea.
Mustang Guru you’re searching lmao

He's not feeding the shark. The shark is feeding off of fish in the water

When I was in the Bahamas, I paid a couple of hundred dollars to go swim with the nurse sharks (harmless unless you stuck your foot or hand in their mouths). As they swam around me, there were other sharks that were NOT nurse sharks and they looked exactly like this bull shark.
those were reef sharks, also harmless. Bull sharks on the other hand

true dat but what would you consider the are that they are in?
@@svtv_9615 throwing shark repellent so they start associating shore with disgust
Having a bull shark that is used to feeding on things fallen in around helps people to stay sober and makes the ones who can't disappear so enhances the quality of the population.
The shark will associate fish with something to eat as usual😆
Are you an idiot?
It is a rare sighting but you never know what is in there. Very scary. They have been known to venture into rivers where I live. Extremely rare to hear about but apparently they are there and you would never even know. Some poor people have lost their lives.
Actually, because of sharks proclivity to migrate, it takes several years and a consistent feeding schedule for usually the second of two generations of sharks to successfully associate humans and human behavior as a source of food. That being said, just don't feed them. Also, bull sharks are "local sharks" which live close to their homing grounds. So, seriously, don't do it.
By feeding it, now the shark will always hang out around here and you've put people in danger. Way to go.
smasila Yeah, good people
smasila people are always in danger, even in the common streets where traffic accidents can occur
But you believe that Earth's flat so it's not like you can be taken serious.
smasila I don't see a single thing wrong with this video
Perhaps that is the the long term plan in this case. To increase shark attacks in these waters in order to gain media attention. People do stupid things like this all the time intentional or not.
Wow, thats a big Bull Shar and so close to shore and where kids might play. I live in San Diego and we have Great Whites but the Bulls are much scarier.
Agreed.
I went to San Diego for work once. I went to a pier and found it amusing that great white was on the list of things you were not allowed to keep if you caught it.
Tiger sharks are also pretty aggressive too
I'd say its a small one
Say that to the guy that got decapitated by a great white
This is the area where self-proclaimed shark-whisperer Dr. Ritter used to wade among the bull sharks. He gave up the pastime after one of them chewed off his left calf muscle and ate it in a single grateful gulp .
I think that was Aruba, not Bimini.

The shark came into the harbour by mistake and is trying to find its way out......if you do feed them under such circumstances it just makes the situation much worse. Not recommended for nature and shark lovers. Thanks for sharing this footage of such beautiful creatures. One of the many talents of the Bull shark is that it can survive in fresh water....and can even breathe air!
Dont feed the bull shark or he'll find a way to start cooking underwater and dethrone Ramsay!!!

I love sharks i have been studying them my whole life
Bull sharks have been known to live in fresh water for 3 to 4 months It traverses rivers and waterways then returns to the saltwater
Its amazing how fast it hones in on the food with its senses..Sharks...
as cool and rare of an opportunity as something like this is, it's also a wonderful way to keep that shark coming back to shore( can't exactly tell how isolated that water way is judging by the video but I can tell that there are CLEARLY people hanging around that area.) Considering that bull sharks ARE man eaters who don't need to be provoked to attack it might not be wise to do that. other than that it's definitely an interesting video.
Its Bimini Sands Marina, you would be nuts to swim in there as there are loads of Bull Sharks about. They do a shore based cage diving with them there.
tobyonekenobe
I'd say "tell that to the tourists" but considering that bit of info seems pretty damn crucial to living around that area I would certainly HOPE they tell that to the tourists.
Shane Keelinghamm
It's not simply that bull sharks are territorial.( not arguing that they aren't because duh.) It's that they make territory out of the same places we like to swim in, and considering bull sharks are arguably the most adaptable shark species currently on earth; able to live in cold/warm salt/ fresh water. That's a LOT of opportunity for our species to butt heads or in their case sink their teeth into our heads. (Yes it's more likely they go for our legs but that's besides the point.) as for those not being swimming waters, thanks for basically saying what Toby did, but try telling that to drunk tourists.(Although in hindsight if a tourist WAS drunk enough to think swimming there was a good idea no amount of warning signs would save them wouldn't they?)
TL;DR Bull sharks are omnipresent assholes just doing their own thing, And thank you Captain Obvious.
Shane Keelinghamm
nah, conservation efforts are pretty effective when it comes to animals on the endangered species list. and even if some species of sharks go extinct the bull shark is likely to be one of the more successful breeds due to their range and (consequently) their diet. on top of that shark fin soup is mostly eaten in Asian countries which bull sharks I'm pretty sure they don't frequent. African waters on the other hand...well there's another story.
Shane Keelinghamm
oh I know, and people ARE doing something about it. what THEY need is more support from folks like US.
The water looks so clear, if only there wasn't sharks
Clear waters means you can swim with sharks without fear. Your fear tells them you are food
Now when a kid falls off the dock the Shark will think its another Scooby snack.

In Texas too. I was fishing off a small private pier in a lake that connects to the Gulf, when I hooked a 6ft Bull Shark. It took my bait, line, and sinker. I noticed too that a family with small children were using their pier next to me for swimming and diving.
You have directly endangered everyone in the area👍👍
Been there several times. Swam with them(caged) at the big game club. Was a lot of fun. Then went out in the open water and swam around at least 20 reef sharks. 2-6’ long.

TigerMeadows agreed. I don't get why people kill sharks. Very few people die each year from sharks yet people kill the poor things. Same with snakes and spiders.
And here I am thinking how pretty that water looks and taking a dip in there not knowing death is waiting for someone to dive in
It will take a limb at most.. you over exaggerate. They have speeding drunk drivers every day in the world and you still leave your house. Actually Drunk Driving is known to crash through buildings, and sober drivers, too, yet you still live in a house made of wood and glass.
Seeing it go to the surface of the water like a dog bird or gator was so cool

I found this strangely relaxing and therapeutic to watch.
I'm quite certain it's not a bull shark. I rather lean towards a reef shark. It lacks the massive build of a bullshark and the nearly right angled transition from head to sides. Also it moves differently from a bull shark. Somehow less "determined"...
Definitely a bull shark
Omg you're right bull sharks don't live in lakes or rivers so that must be a reef shark
They do live in rivers as they are capable of living in freshwater but I don't see how that's relevant here...
yeah it lacks the girth and back fin of a bull shark.
Yeah, that is almost certainly a bull shark. It is way too stocky to be a reef.
I have to agree with some of the other commenters. As intriguing as this may seem too see this fish up close. Nobody in there right mind wants a "rogue" Bull Shark patrolling there harbor. And potentially bringing his friends along with him. And then someone ending up severely hurt or worse...(g)

People always complain of aggressive animals, why do you think the attack happened in the first place? Oh because people feed wild animals and they get so used to humans that they hang out right under their boat or in their backyard.
Dont feed wild animals!
My only counter thought to that was to keep the beast full. A lion that is stuffed on Tbone steaks is of little danger to a man. But if at strict regement is not up held, your right. Don't want that animal to famileries it's self with the area, especially when it's hungry
Because that's what you want with a shark. Associating food with people. 👍

Thank you UA-cam for over 600K views! Wow! I thought I'd reply to some of the comments that I've been seeing. A lot of people have just really liked the video in general, but let me address the people who are saying to not feed the wildlife, especially sharks. This video was taken in a marina in Bimini Sands Marina, Bimini, Bahamas. This is a shark free marina (no pun intended). That means you cannot fish for sharks and bring them to the marina to clean, etc. In the video, we are cleaning a wahoo that we caught that day, so the carcass was going to be in the water any way you look at it. We just decided to have a little fun with this young bull shark (yes, this is a bull shark). Some people have argued that this looks more like a reef shark, but I am sure it is a bull shark because we know some of the people that work with the Bimini Biological Field Station (the shark lab). Also, reef sharks don't typically come in the marina (They're reef sharks). I will probably be posting another video like this from a more recent trip soon. So, stay posted!

There is a restaurant in the Bahamas where they do that. The big difference is a whole bunch of bull sharks arrive. Not a place to get drunk and accidentally fall in.
Is it dangerous? Does it attack if suppose someone unaware and went for a swim there?
