MAURICE BENARD STATE OF MIND with ALISON SWEENEY

  • On this week's episode I'm joined by Alison Sweeney. Alison is an award winning actor, director, producer and author. You may know Alison from her role as Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives, as a host of The Biggest Loser, or from the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film series Murder, She Baked.
We talked about how Alison got into acting and the importance of asking for help, but what really touched me was when she started talking about body image. I truly got angry with those unnecessary and unkind comments she received, but boy did she prove them wrong!
Tonight watch Alison Sweeney in her latest movie, which she stars and produced, Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery at 9pm on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Thank you, Maurice and Allison for a wonderful state of mind today. Loved the discussion about body image. It’s so important that our young girls learn that they don’t need to look like a Barbie doll to be loved. Maurice, I hope you don’t mind me saying this but I think God prepares us for things in our lives. The Alzheimer’s story Line with Max was God’s way of preparing you for the next chapter in your life with your own dad. It’s funny how God works because when you were doing the BI Polar storyline in 2016, My daughter, who had just started college, was diagnosed with Bi Polar. God knows what we need. God bless and thank you, Allison and Maurice ♥️

Maurice, thank you for being so open and honest about your mental health struggles. My entire family (including me) has dealt with either depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, OCD, ADHD. Yeah. We won the genetics lottery (ha!). I have spent the better part of my 57 years on this planet trying to hide my pain and struggles. It's been exhausting. Thanks to people like you, we are having conversations about this and some of the shame is going away. I appreciate you so much for being willing to be a leader in this. All my best.

I have never viewed a show all the way through, and it held my interest, both of these people are down to earth. They shared personal issues and how they worked through the issues. I agree it was like therapy, it was really enlightening I really would like to thank these two people, they were dynamic together as host and guest. I love how these two people are involved in helping others, for they are talented and knowledgeable to be able to help people. Thank you for sharing.

Now I need to say this about Maurice father that has a bad illness. My mom who has passed away from dementia is very hard to see your family member go through it! Plus trying to play the character of character who is playing the role of an mental illness! That can't be easy coming home from work as an actor and leaving your job at work. I hope that I made some sense about what I just said. Very well done with the interview. Thank you so much for sharing the information. May God bless you Maurice Benard!

Love State of Mind and all the guests to date… everyone has opened up and given enlightenment in so many areas that can and will encourage others with similar problems to hopefully seek help. She is so correct about ADHD being over diagnosed.. not every active child needs meds! Thank you for being such a huge Mental Health advocate because the umbrella it encompasses is massive. This was an absolutely an AMAZINGLY AWESOME INTERVIEW!!! Thank you so very much for not only doing the interview but for sharing it as well. I love you both so much but I have watch Allison a lot longer and I remember hearing about the things she went through on Days because not only viewer's but producers and others felt like she didn't fit the skinny mold that that television pounded into our heads back then. I was very over weight as a child and not only was I made fun of by kids but my sister as well and then her husband after they got married. She was 8 yrs older than me man's she thought she could shame me into losing weight. So I grew up with such a severe that at times I still have trouble with it but I have gotten so much better and I am 70 now. As a teen and young adult i of course tried every fad diet known to man and my weight would of course come back with a vengeance. I love my sister but we fought like cats/dogs growing up but forgiving her wad what I had to do for myself. I think she never really knew how deep it hurt me and I was always thankful for my big brother who helped run interference between us. I don't think it ever really occurred to either my sister or her husband until they had a daughter that looked so much like me weight and all that suffered through so much of the same until she for into until she got into High School and started playing sports. I did the same thing but mine was Drill team in. High School. I appreciate you both and all you both do to help so many others. Thank you so much for sharing your stories so that I can help so many people suffering these days. You Both are such amazing people. I hope you both, as well as your famlies, have a safe, blessed, wonderful week/weekend. Stay healthy and God Bless You All. Much Love My Dear Sweet Friends💜💛💜

Maurice fabulous interview with Allison Sweeney. Depression, bipolar, & anxiety are all very real. I believe everyone suffers from at least one of these. However some cases are mild and others are far more severe. You truly are setting a great example to all of us by sharing your struggles. It shocks me that there are people who don't realize it is a very real thing. We all learn from other people's struggles, issues etc. I have so much respect for your wife for standing by you.

  • @pamelashimp5774

First.. your show is informative and entertaining. Second.. let me say this was one of my favorites. Alison is one of my favorite actresses I watched her since she started on days. I also enjoy your portrayal of Sonny. My sister was diagnosed with bipolar, one of her daughters with bipolar both including depression and anxiety disorders. My husband has debilitating OCD, tourette's, clinical depression, anxiety. It took us awhile for him to be diagnosed. I am working that he takes his medication faithfully. However our lives or anything but easy. July 2014, June 2015 so significant losses in my life. Then 2016 came and it seemed like every month we were dealing with something devastating including the death of my father-in-law and my sister that had been diagnosed with bipolar. I started having health problems as well and I have not gotten a lot better. So with the loss, the physical issues that leave me in pain, severe pain daily, for the first time in my adult life I also deal with extreme anxiety, depression, feeling of worthlessness. I feel that my place in this world is to help people. And I'm not in a position to help myself. I'm unable to work both physically, emotionally or mentally, which is left us in an extreme financial situation which also makes it almost impossible for me to get help physically or mentally. That's the reason for the feeling of uselessness and helplessness. I have family members who don't believe in mental illness, or mental difficulties. You get the "you just need to put on your big girl britches & do what needs to be done. And your husband needs to get over himself & go back to work." So it is refreshing to hear people speak out with a platform of not a degree but of personal knowledge with such conviction. I would be very interested in another conversation between you and Alison. They showed seem to be 5 minutes instead of 41 minutes. That was a compliment in case it didn't come across correctly. You do good work Maurice on the show, and on your podcast. I am truly sorry for your Dad's diagnosis. A few short years before my father-in-law died he had a stroke which caused early on set Alzheimer's. For all my husband's issues he was so patient with his dad and even though we lived almost 500 miles away he talked to him multiple times a day and help him a lot because he was home during the day alone & would get scared. God Bless!!

Love, love, love Alison! Sami Brady is a force to be reckoned with and her Hallmark movies are so good. If Sami and Sonny met, Salem and PC would not be the same. So glad to know her mom tried to break the chain of alcoholism. Body shaming is awful! She is gorgeous! I was so happy to hear about her relationship with Chandler Massey. It really comes across well on screen.

Two of my favorite people!! Why?? Because both of you are survivors. And use your celebrity status outlet for awareness. You both make such a huge difference. Thank you @mauricebenard#knowledgeispower

It's quite interesting you said you had telepathy at that moment. It may be that during your mania the part of the brain which uses telepathy was activated. I have telepathy, but have had since I was 3 - I can't read minds but sense impressions of incidents, etc. I have major clinical depression from trauma at age very early in life...brain chemistry shifts during adolescence and after pregnancy - during traumas it gets bad. But my telepathy never changes...I used to have conversations with another telepathic...using projection. So brain areas responsible for sensativity are dormant with me...unless I choose to 'see' with it. But for some might manifest during chemical changes or trauma.

I started watching Days because Genie Francis left GH & joined days. Then saw Gorgeous Drake Hogastan. Then Allison joined. Hooked ever since.

Maurice would have been a good choice for Nick Corelli recast if he had joined Days. Him and Alison could have been paired up.

My sister tried and now refuses to take meds for her bipolar disorder. I feel I have to allow her that freedom. She would be homeless if she didn’t love with me. People say to make it a condition of her living with me, but I can’t, because I know for sure she’d choose to be homeless.

Wonderful interview! There was a smoke detector chirping in the background of this interview. It sounds like someone was vacuuming too.
