Best of the Worst: Robo-C.H.I.C., Alien Seed, and Yor: The Hunter from the Future

- The gang watches three 80's sci-fi movies and discover, to their horror, that one is a comedy video. Jay commits suicide live in the video. Rich Evans dies of a heart attack. Mike survives the viewing with mild PTSD and a hangover and Josh learns the magic of Christmas.
This episode was beyond surreal for me. I recognized a rock outcropping in one of the clips from "Alien Seed" as being only a few miles from my house. Checked on IMDB and sure enough, it was filmed in Colorado Springs. I found the whole movie on UA-cam, and watched it for familiar locations and spotted dozens, including a building I used to work in.
Then I got to the credits and saw someone named "Winter Monk" and I just about shat my teeth.
Winter Monk used to be the online moniker of someone I've known for 25 years. He's like an uncle to me. Someone who's originally from Colorado Springs, and who was an actor and model in the late eighties.
I called him up and sure enough, he's the dude with the Uzi around an hour and thirteen minutes into the movie. Funny enough, turns out he's also in Robo-C.H.I.C. AND Elves!
Holy shit, that IS surreal! Great story, thanks for sharing. And say hi to Winter Monk for us.
Mr monk should do video commenting how was working in that time and an actor in the midwest. I'm not from USA is only with RLM that I see that people form other regions that isn't the west coast. Also it would be interesting to know how work in this type of movies were for the RLM fans. Hope he's in good health and you to op.
@@mrpurple11 colorado is the west proper, not midwest.

wtf the odds of this seem crazy, and BotW just happened to pick three moopies Mr. Winter Monk was in? nuts
I like the Best of the Worst. It simulates having actual friends.
to be fair, not many people are willing to watch 3 horrendous 80s movies in a row, for good reason
This hurts.
My friends moved out of our place and now I watch this to simulate people wanting to be around me.
What are friends?

The fact that Erik Estrada went on to star in Cool Cat means Alien Seed was the peak in his acting career
I think you mean Cool Cat was the peak in his acting career.

I LOVED your review of Alien Seed ! The only thing I didn't like about it was you didn't even bring my Char up from the Movie . I was in Alien Seed, I played Heavy #1 . I was the guy who killed Coach in the Fish tank, Kidnapped people and then I get shot . We filmed for 3 weeks . Erik flew in for the first 3 days to film his scenes and then he flew back out and we filmed the rest of the Movie after he left to answer your question .
Nick Shadursky - - I LOVE how many actors who were in the films they watch on BOTW comment on their videos. Small world!
A close friend of mine was the goon in Robo_CHIC with the ponytail that she threw up in the air. He was also in Alien Seed, though I don't know what part he played. He was also in Elves as the goon that Grizzly Adams punched until he took a cyanide tablet. I believe these were all the same director.
Blessed be this comment chain, I hope we continue to get more insight from botw film actors.
The rewatchability of these old episodes of BOTW is insane. I've seen each one almost 5 times already.

According to Wikipedia, and backed by several online sources, the movie Yor is based on an Argentina comic Henga, el cazador. From the few images I've found it seems to feature a fair amount of well drawn 90% naked women posing around between Yor fighting random monsters and people all barbarian style. Seems like the movie's pretty accurate to it's source then.
Im from Argentina I can confirm

Yor had a theatrical realease. I actually remember seeing the trailer and the poster for it at the theater as a kid. I wanted to see it and my dad said "uh no" and it was a forbidden passion ever since! LOL
as a diehard fan of yor: the hunter from the future, i cannot believe that they didnt mention the scene of yor punching a pterodactyl in the face and then using its wings as a hang-glider while the movies theme song played the killer hook "yors world hes the one!" as a side note, im probably the only person whos seen this movie over 10 times...
It's you and Richard Svensson.
Yor is based on an Argentine comic series in which Yor is NOT from the future but he's a caveman who fights aliens. The perils of adaptation by Italians I guess (?)

Robo-C.H.I.C. seems quaint now that they’ve seen Robowoman
Burt Ward is the one person who actually used to train with Bruce Lee, who looks the least like someone who actually used to train with Bruce Lee. The dude has never not looked like someone you'd expect to do your taxes.

I felt so snubbed and empty, just like when you're expecting a a huge sneeze which doesn't happen :-)
'Part cop, part machine, all woman', that's literally RoboCop's tagline, rearranged to make a lot less sense.
Because why the fuck not!
And none of it was true!
Jay: "No one knows who Bort Ward is because he's not a real person"
Some person named Bort Ward somewhere: " :( "
Funny, my mom used to be a banker in Hollywood and said Burt Ward's account was almost always overdrawn. One time he got in trouble in Czechoslovakia and she couldn't wire him money because he didn't actually have any.
Someone accidentally referred to Yor as Thor, and wasn't completely wrong. There's an old English letter called thorn which represents a "th" sound. When people write thorn today they use a "y" (as in "Ye Olde Shoppe"). If you decide the Y in Yor is a thorn you would pronounce it as Thor.

These vids make me want to make friends, until I realize those friends would be nothing like this, then I'm okay with being a misanthrope again.
+Phibes Lives When I said at work that I was a "bit of a misanthrope" everyone looked at me and asked "what does that mean?"
Pricks.
+PatstarDeluxe I've had this problem myself. It's one of those words which is very useful and there are no really good dumbed down substitutes for. I mean, you'd be shocked how many people apparently don't know what "cynical" means, either. I suppose "people-hater" would work, but fuck that. I'm not going to force myself to sound like a cretin because all these people haven't been near, let alone read, a dictionary since they graduated/dropped out of high school.
Damn ProgHead777, with that comment you'll turn me into a philanthrope!
(I know that's technically not the correct usage, but fuck it, my lame joke wouldn't work otherwise)
+ProgHead777 That's a bit rough, though. Not knowing a word or two doesn't seem like a good reason for hating them. Some people have different strengths, and sharing that knowledge helps.
Not only that, lots of people drop out of high school for reasons out of their control. Not everyone just gives up and is too lazy to keep going. Hating people because you think they're dumb seems a bit self-centered.
pixel sheep I missed this comment or I would have replied sooner. You're absolutely right. For the record, I'm not really a misanthrope.. well, not ALL the time. Just in moments of personal weakness, I suppose.
You need not tell me about the wide variety of reasons that people drop out of school, because I did so myself. Indeed, it was, as you said, for reasons outside of my control, and certainly had nothing to do with academic inability or a lack of intellectual curiosity.
I love Josh asserting his masculine dominance to Jay in the first ten seconds of the video.
Oh my god, the guy with the spear at 8:06 is the serial killer from the Too Many Cooks video. I had no idea he was an actual actor.
I've only just started to read the comments on these videos. What a joy.

Yor was based on a comic strip, and the film was actually a re-edited Italian miniseries on Rai. The same makers instead did another TV series - Treasure Island in SPace, which was aired on ITV in UK and RTE in Ireland, kiddy space opera with Ernest Borgnine as Billy Bones and Anthony Quinn as Long John Silver.
I was born in 1999 but I know who "Bort Ward" is. The shark repellent spray is the greatest thing of all time!

YES!!! Yor!!! I actually saw that when it first came out in theaters... It was so laughable that my best friend and I were giving it the non-stop riff treatment...and this guy in back of us kept shushing us... I've never been a believer in chatting during a movie (even back then when I was in high school) but I couldn't believe anyone could watch this turd other than for complete mockery... I so need to watch that again... That's so cool! Reb is a B movie legend and I thank Spoony and MST3K for introducing me to many memorable bad movie nights.

Wait, why would the drugs still being there make sense? Who shoots somebody over a drug dispute and leaves the drugs?
+RoboHoundGames
they didn't shoot him over a drug dispute, they shot him because he witnessed them kidnapping the girl. They left his drugs out in the open so the police would expect it to be a drug dealing related murder.
+ColetheAero That's the point; if it were an actual drug related murder, wouldn't it be for the purpose of stealing the drugs?
+Luke Taylor
Aw i see now.
Well, it doesn't really need to be a great reason. It just needs to plant an idea in the police's heads about what happened to start an investigation that'll be hard to connect to them and keep the police out of their hair.
Now, i don't know why a secretive shadowy organization feels the need to do that in the first place. Since without any witnesses really anyone could have killed that guy and the case would have gone nowhere, for at least a little while anyway . . . But, there you go.

Kinda disappointed you didn't mention the most awesome scenes from Yor like the dead giant bat hang glider or the caveman trapeze scene. That movie is way more insane and entertaining than you gave it credit for.
They often under-represent the movies they watch, especially in the older videos. Now that they're okay with 90 minutes to a video they fit more in.
