Tragic. Life is full of sorrow. Remorse. Beauty. Pain and happiness. In the end, our whole existence is forgotten for most of us. Let us hope we all meet again in a wonderful place with music as magical as this. I'm sorry for your loss my dear.
Do not exaggerate: very average performance. Pat has does not know a classic guitar technics. Particularly, he dos not play very well the classic/acoustic guitar.
I was a teenager when this song came out it has always been my favorite now I'm 71 it's still my favorite Pat you did it justice beautiful arrangement.
Alvart Apoyan Incorrect. If the two can be the same there would be no need to distinguish the two by two different words. The very definition of the word special implies out of the ordinary. The same is true with mere mortals trying to be Pat Metheny. They can never be the same.
An ordinary mood for me can feel special since so much is so 'extra' ordinary now. The same way a song that is aiming to be special and/or different can sometimes evoke an 'ordinary' overdone feeling (in me anyway). It makes sense to me, but I understand what you mean.
Pat, I'm so glad that you cover these classic pop tunes and do so with such admiration for the musicality of the originals. Some of the best melodies came from the 60's and 70's and it is refreshing to see how many younger listeners are finally acknowledging these treasures. Your instinct for progressions and haunting bass additions is so spot on. Honestly I missed most of your early career, but I am quickly becoming a new fan in this current age. Hoorah for UA-cam for leading me to your music.
You are very correct what do you think know 9 years later . PM now has attempted most things , i still hope for more covers .just think what his magic would produce
I wasn't expecting this at all, but as I listened and watched, I found myself tearing up. Such is the power of exquisitely sublime art. Thank you, Pat, for making the world a more beautiful place.
Humble, unpretentious, clean, well constructed, passionate, of pure heart, deeply personal, and so perfect. Nothing says "I love you," quite like this. Thank you!
The master of solo acoustic guitar renditions of popular songs. Pat has this ability to let us see the real beauty and richness of these seemingly trivial tunes. His arrangements for The Beatles' And I Love Her and Norah Jones' I Don't Know Why are also good examples.
Song written by Terry Kirkman and recorded by the Association! Thx Pat as usual for everything you have done for Art and Music in all this time. Really Amazing!
Pat, I like your music since the '80, and you impressed me all the time. You help people to appreciate good things of life. For me music is really important. I'm a father and a grand-father and last summer I played that piece on my phone and my 2 year grand-son started moving delicately to the sound of the music. Life is beautiful when those moments occurs. Pat a lot of those moment happens when i'm listening to your music. It goes strait to my heart. Thank you so much.
Mesmerizing....I can listen to this over and over. The beauty and tenderness in which he plays this sends the mind and soul into a calm and relaxed state. Perfection.
I had just learned Cherish as a chord melody and I stumbled on this. Absolutely hauntingly beautiful. Pat, I followed up Cherish with a chord melody of Up Up and Away Jimmy Webb. 2 of my current obsessions.
Heard this rendition just recently and was blown away by the chords and complexity. I remember hearing this as a child but you made it even more special and beautiful.
You are the guitar man I always wanted to be. Thank you for your existence and playing the most incredible music and perform for the entire world for all these years.
Been listening to him since I was 16 years old I am now 48 years old that's 32 year's if my Math is correct, ...STILL the king of the hill in my eyes and ears...hands down the finest recording artists for sheer volume of work...longevity..and quality
One of the truly most underrated guitarists in the popular scheme of things.... but since the general folk seem to go after slosh; I am glad that he is a refreshing secret for those that seek true depth of music from the expression of the soul. It is as if the lyrics came through in this instrumental. Thank you, Pat, for taking all the time you do to bypass the well known "scrap container" (in the popular realm) and giving us meaning through your soul and your instrument!
Quite possibly the FINEST recording instrumentalist artist of the last 50 years....longevity...quality and body of work second to none...and YES i understand there are "Other"...but for me personally it has always been Pat...and his work.
Pat is my favorite musician in all the world and has been for more than 30 years now. Thanks Mr. M, you mean a lot to me and I do cherish you very much!
Beautiful arrangement. I know I'm a little late to this party but I was just talking about this tune with my wife this morning when we were discussing our childhood discographies of which The Association was a part.
Lucky me to hear this genius live in Durham NC … Pat was nice enough to stick around and noodle after the show as he had to reschedule the previous engagement due to crappy weather Pretty sure no one left, anyway I used to live near RedRocks CO, wish I could have heard him there
My first slow dance ever was to this song, in a basement of a parent chaporned get together - 50 year ago - and only PM can bring back that feeling. Thank you....
You are a true artist-musician. When I was first able to see you in concert, it was 1990 in Seattle. I was completely & beautifully overwhelmed. Your notes came out FULL & strong (not merely the volume) and filled the Paramount. It was as if my soul was besieged and infiltrated by the wonder of your craft. I cried for the first 45 minutes. By the looks of the previous comments, I'm a part of a fabulous family of Metheny-lovers.
You need not see what someone is doing to know if it is his vocation, you have only to watch his eyes: a cook mixing a sauce, a surgeon making a primary incision, a clerk completing a bill of lading, wear the same rapt expression, forgetting themselves in a function. How beautiful it is, that eye-on-the-object look.
I saw you at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, in the late 1970s when I was only 17. I had never heard anything like you before and I loved your show. What you did here with "Cherish" was excellent. I have always been awed at the harmonic complexity and key changes in this song. I think it is way underappreciated. Writer Terry Kirkman says he wrote it in 37 minutes! Thank you for this video and performance. Nice work.
I don't think of Pat Metheny as a guitarist. He does not depend on the guitar - it's idiosyncracies and convenient patterns and configurations - to play and express his creative ideas. Instead he transcends the instrument. He is more than a jazz guitarist. He is a complete musician in every way... and a kind hearted and humble man as well. The same can be said of Lyle, whose passing still brings me sadness with gratitude for all he left us.
Interesting and delightful..I was just entering my formative period of music and what really moved me..What made me the musician I have become, what music touched me emotionally and I really never thought of it until just listening to Pats wonderful touch now. This song made me feel pure joy and beauty for the first time in my life. Thank you Pat. My smile is pretty big right now.
He really, really nailed it! My favorite song from 1966. I'd try to play it but I'm not about to purchase a baritone guitar and put a special tuning on it. I have Metheny's CD and that's enough for me. Thanks for all your great and original music!
Played this at my wedding. Sadly my wife died in 2016. Still , this song brings me such joy. Thank you PM
Nancy, so sorry for your loss, dear. Bless your future with love.🥰
Hi Nancy, can you share the guitar tuning of this beautiful song?
Condolences. You chose a prolific song.
Tragic.

I'm sorry for your loss my dear.
Sorry for you loss , I’m sure she’s watching over you 🙏🕊
Pat doesn't just play the guitar, he uses it to tell a story. No words needed.
Pat Metheney IS a guitar.
Do not exaggerate: very average performance. Pat has does not know a classic guitar technics. Particularly, he dos not play very well the classic/acoustic guitar.
Weeping. This is the most beautiful arrangement of Cherish I've ever heard.
Yes, it is truly lovely. Just beautiful.
Every time. It can't be helped.
Amen
I was a teenager when this song came out it has always been my favorite now I'm 71 it's still my favorite Pat you did it justice beautiful arrangement.
Pat's language reminds me that ordinary and special can be the same.. and beautiful as they are.

It's about loving music, not your ego as musican.
Beautifully said, Alvert! (I'm stealing it :)
@@michaelpark5681 What's so extrordinary about this is its ordinarity, if there is such a word.

Cherish is such a great song that most of us forget that it's a really sad song. Except for you, Pat. Thanks.
The man transports me to places I have never been before.
He does it his way. Beautifully done Pat
The master of solo acoustic guitar renditions of popular songs. Pat has this ability to let us see the real beauty and richness of these seemingly trivial tunes. His arrangements for The Beatles' And I Love Her and Norah Jones' I Don't Know Why are also good examples.
This is the most beautiful piece of music i heard in a long time.
Pat, what a wonderful rendition of a timeless love song. Thank you.
Song written by Terry Kirkman and recorded by the Association! Thx Pat as usual for everything you have done for Art and Music in all this time. Really Amazing!
I have always loved the harmonies in this song. The Association wrote some wonderful stuff, who better to give it air time than Pat Metheny.
There is little that I can add to all the compliments and praise here. Just wanted to add my own little "WOW" to it.
Pat, I like your music since the '80, and you impressed me all the time. You help people to appreciate good things of life. For me music is really important. This may be the most beautiful tunes my ears have heard. You’ve inspired me more than you will ever know. Thank you so much!

I can't ever listen to it only once. Ever. It brings such great joy.

This makes my soul feel good
I'm speechless One of my favorite songs What an arrangement Thank you...
This brought me to tears. So beautiful
Heard this rendition just recently and was blown away by the chords and complexity. I remember hearing this as a child but you made it even more special and beautiful.

The best !!!!
RIP Terry Kirkman. So glad PM did this song justice.
Gorgeous and lasting.
One of the best instrumentals that I have ever heard of this classic Terry Kirkman's 60's megahit!
You are the guitar man I always wanted to be. Thank you for your existence and playing the most incredible music and perform for the entire world for all these years.
Artistry, feeling and good taste! It is a gem....

This rendition blew my mind when I first heard it on the radio. Thank you so much!

pure brilliance ...means so much to the boomers who "cherish" this song ..
Beautiful arrangement. I know I'm a little late to this party but I was just talking about this tune with my wife this morning when we were discussing our childhood discographies of which The Association was a part.

He so expresses the cherished feeling of the song.
A master musician who can take any piece of music and find undiscovered beauty in it. Lovely, Maestro.

My first slow dance ever was to this song, in a basement of a parent chaporned get together - 50 year ago - and only PM can bring back that feeling. Thank you....

This piece has reminded me how much of an influence he has been in my playing and expression... Thanks Pat!
Beautiful tune played beautifully.
In love!!
Wow amazing! I love the original Cherish by The Association and this version is curious and evocative to me. Thanks.

Wow!!! What a truly gifted man he is.
BEAUTIFUL PAT
A map of the world ... such a great movie and music
I love you Sir Pat :) Thank you for inspiring so many of us to play this beautiful instrument and may be spread hapiness like you do with your music
Wow. Astoundingly beautiful. Love the changes he added. A player's player for sure.
Brilliant! The man is a master of the most instruments.
I don't think of Pat Metheny as a guitarist. He does not depend on the guitar - it's idiosyncracies and convenient patterns and configurations - to play and express his creative ideas. Nice. What a gorgeous rendition of a classic tune. Thanks.
this one of the songs I tried to play while learning to play the guitar (in the 70s). thank you for your rendition-it is so beautifully done.
Fantastic
Beautiful !! I started listening to you when I was 12 years old, now I'm 50
Also on this album- "What's it. all About", Metheny covers Carly Simon's "That's the way I've always heard it should be". It will tear at your heart.
Beautiful.
❤️ sarebbe bastata una tua parola.
Excellent!!
Sir you take me to a safe side and thankyou for inspiring us in a natural way
Very beautiful.....thank you.
He really, really nailed it! My favorite song from 1966. I'd try to play it but I'm not about to purchase a baritone guitar and put a special tuning on it. I have Metheny's CD and that's enough for me. Thanks for all your great and original music!
Muito bonito
Beautiful 😊
Suave, tocante, viajante... muita melodia! Show 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Sure brings tears to my eyes.
Me conmueve la interpretación!
Bellísimo!
By the time Pat's 100 years old, do you think he'll still be doing amazing things like this? I wouldn't bet against it for 2 seconds.
Simply a beautiful reflection of love thank you pat for you are a treasure to listen to God Bless diane wills
