Nice catches! You have got to check out the Irving roads up here. It is one of the few railroads in Maine which still tries to attract business and is very much a class act.

Fun video Harrison! I don't know what I liked more, the railroad action or that harbor seal catchin' some rays! 😃
Any way you look at it there were some good catches all around!
And I am REALLY impressed with those New Hampshire North Coast locomotives! Wow! Those things are so clean you could eat off 'em! Now that's professionalism!
    Thanks for posting!

New Hampshire North Coast has done so well in reviving a line that Guilford sterilized

The Conway line was already toast because of the B&M. The B&M wanted to dump that entire line back in the 60s. We're Lucky Guilford allowed it to continue as Boston Sand & Gravel. Is was not a sound investment for Guilford. Rebuilding 40 miles of track and maintaining them for a handful of sand cars just doesn't pay itself off. It only works now because BS&G has deep pockets.

I am pretty sure it was abandoned pre-Guilford. Or at least they weren't running anything beyond Rochester. Like all of the branch lines B&M owned, it was ran into the ground until there was nothing left. It is far more profitable for BS&G to move the traffic themselves than pay another railroad to do so. The additional carload traffic was just a nice bonus on top of everything. I want to say Guilford was still servicing customers in Rochester well into the NHN era, which leads me to believe they still owned from there to Rockingham or whatever the jct with the main is called.

The branch was already run into the ground pre 1983 by 30 or so years. Guilford ran the branch until October 1985, causing a brief pause of service above Rochester, N.H until selling the line from Rochester to the sand pit in Spring of 1986 to the aggregate operation. Yes, Guilford did keep the Conway Branch with customers from Rollinsford Jct to Rochester until selling that segment of the branch to NHN in 1994. BS&G still had to pay Guilford to move their cars from Dover to Boston and return . I try to stay away from the politics of the modern NHN, however there are rumored new customers every now and again. It would be nice to see NHN grow.
