Oh no, I know that too. what I mean is, what BachelorBanana just said is accurate - because if my familiarity with the Hive, its royalty and pantheon is indication of anything, that's not actually Mara at all. And I think that's all I'll say for now, on pain of being called crazy. Some things are simply best shown.
I think the third week of this cycle we will see Uldren, not only because we are done communicating with Mara, as well as when I was doing the Ascendant Challenge for this week (Feb. 5 - Feb. 12) and I approached Toland's orb and he said that The Awoken bury their dead in open air tombs and that it was foolish. Perhaps directly referencing the Uldren Cutscene.
So, interesting thought, and I never noticed it before. Re-read through the books of sorrow, and I noticed something interesting. When Oryx killed Savathūn and Xivu Arath, I believe he did so in the Ascendant Realm. As far as we know, if someone is killed in the AR, they are dead for good, however, after learning to take. It’s stated then that he revived his sisters, one in an act of cunning, and one in an act of destruction. Assuming my assumption is correct, then Oryx could return if one of his sisters revive him in an act of his worms nature. I want to say there was a recent article where Bungie said that Savathūn would not be a main character in the next few add on’s. This would make sense if she is biding her time. I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong, Oryx’s worm pushes him to pursue knowledge. I would assume the only knowledge grand enough to revive a god would be the knowledge within the traveler. The queen has already said that she has the power to destroy the traveler. If she decides to pursue that path, that could be an opportunity for the Hive pantheon to step in. Spinfoil theory, but it makes sense to me.
They were killed in Oryx’s Throne, not their own, so their deaths weren’t permanent. But perhaps a death in the Ascendant Realm as a whole holds more weight, which would explain why the Books called them true deaths and they were marooned in their thrones.
Wes Guerin I heavily doubt the queen could do much to the traveler when it is awake.... she is most likely posturing or saying what she wants to do but can’t... I know what she said but I heavily doubt it that she can actually destroy the trailer or maybe she is going by a different definition of destroy
What I'm curious about is what has Lysander been doing this whole time. Never in Destiny's history has our Guardian experienced anything remotely like the Factions wars that near tore the city apart from within. It would be interesting for Bungie to explore this sort of inter-city conflict with Lysander's return. Who knows, Lysander could be Savathun's puppet to incite chaos and disorder among Guardian ranks. It would also be interesting to see The drifter and the spider interact with each other and with Uldren and or/Mara.
I have known about you for a bit, but never really dug into all of it until recently. It’s amazing that you have time to research all of the lore and make as many videos as you do. Your voice is also soothing like a sweet British angel. That LW/Thorn video was so awesome. It made me dig into your archives. If it brought me in deeper, I’m sure there are many more. Whatever money you make from this isn’t enough, and it sounds like you give a huge chunk to St. Jude. I’ll support you via patreon for as long as you keep making great content.
Hey man i just want to say thank you, you make some of the best Destiny content that there is and truly help to round out this world that so many of us are invested in. I know that you were going through a tough time there for a while but just know that the Destiny Universe is an infinitely better place with you in it and there are so many of us that are grateful for what you do. Hope to see you starside sometime Loremaster Byf, and truly thanks again from one guardian to another!
Could not have timed this video better, a friend of mine and I were just talking about dark guardians and the possibility of getting to choose between light and dark subclasses in the future. Really ties into the “A side should always be chosen” statement
It would be interesting if to balance Uldren, being awoken as a guardian of the light, Mara took the darkness...A side must be chosen, even if it's the wrong side.
I think one of the dreaming city armour pieces or weapons describes sjur eidos premonition of Mara cutting a great pyramid ship in half with her bare hands which I believe shows Mara siding with us
It's so amazing to see the recovery that Byf has made. About 3 months ago he was depressed and suicidal. I just think that it is amazing to see what a recovery he has made and I hope he keeps up the good work!
I remember one lore entry that compared Uldren to Oryx, (the brother explorer), and he was likewise killed and came back on the side of light. Oryx always seemed like the most “good hearted” of his siblings, falling into catatonia at the prospect of war and doing as much as he could to express his love, (having kids to prevent nihilism etc), even when fighting for the deep. It would be interesting if his return, (and it really seems like he has to return in some form or other, I mean he was always the focal point of the three sisters and the inquiry/trickery/strength trifecta is a running theme), would be if not for the conventional light then at least for some sort of Kierkegaardian faith based ruthless “light” analogue. Plus he is, I think, simply the most true expression of the deep between the three, Savathun’s fourth dimensional infinite torus manifold doesn’t seem able to violate the second law of thermodynamics, I just don’t think either tricks or Xivu’s army can stand up to pure honesty, (even in death), and Oryx’s view of topology and mathematics combined with faith is the only one of their philosophies, (and they are more philosophies than characters), that seems to have the nigh-religious purity of heart to truly embody a frictionless Carnot engine like the fire without fuel.
It seems very unlikely to me that Mara Sov will be joining the Darkness in the upcoming showdown, or next Act, whatever that may be. She has lost so much at the hands of the Darkness, and even though she hasn't revealed her overall plan, every event and action she takes is beneficial to us. The Reefborn have been brought to the brink of extinction thanks to the Scorn, Taken, and Babble's Worth, all of which are creatures of the Darkness. Her fleet has been destroyed, her city has been cursed, and her brother has been killed, although we could be blamed for all of those things. There is also the added fact that the remnants of her army, after fighting for months alongside Guardians in the Dreaming City, might not take too kindly about having to switch sides and fight against those who once fought beside them. In fact, I'm not sure Petra would even turn, which would be an interesting conflict to see, although not remotely interesting enough to be the sole reason for Mara to side with the Darkness from a developers standpoint. Plus, she stated the cycle before that every action of hers was in service of a future that benefits us, and I don't see any way that siding with the Darkness would be beneficial to us, unless she's stepping outside the boundaries of game lore and is talking to the real player, because man, I would love a story of betrayal like that. And even if her dream and decision was only made within the last cycle, she has worked so hard and sacrificed so much in the name of her plan that to throw it away would be ridiculous. Additionally, since it seems very likely that Mara knows about Uldren's revival, she must know that to fight against the Light will likely be to fight against her brother, since I can very easily picture Bungie sending Uldren into a redemption tale, likely when the next big DLC hits. And finally, while many lore masters and theorists speak of the Destiny storyline as if it is a living, breathing world, we must all remember that it *is* a video game, and therefore does have some set rules to follow. First of all, most developers (Although admittedly, some of the best stories are made when developers step outside this rule) try to make sure that you can pay attention to the main storyline, without having too many branching stories and conflicts. If Mara is to side with the Darkness and become a major character on its side, I cannot see how she and Savathun would both be able to take the spotlight in the expansion. One of them would inevitably sink into the background as we focus on the other, and I don't believe that Bungie would do that to either character, especially given the fact that they seem to be taking their storytelling to a much higher level since Forsaken. However, if she is to side with us, and the Light, then it would be much easier to fit her in, because as much as we would all love her to be front and center, the game and story is about US. And for my final point, I would like to point out that while we can have minor defeats like unleashing the curse on the Dreaming City, we do have to win in the end, or else most people will feel unsatisfied and let down. I'm sure I missed some points here, but while I would love a story twist like that, it just seems so unlikely from many perspectives. However, as they've shown with Uldren's return, all rules are out the window, and they are perfectly capable in steering us in a completely unexpected direction. The only question I have is if they could keep us hooked to that road.
How freaking cool would it be if in D3 we are the ones talking to the stranger before she disappears in the D1 cutscene. She could be telling us not to be found by the darkness creatures or something.
Brendan S. That would be a really cool way to tie her in and make it feel like they meant to do that all along (although let’s be real, they basically forgot about her for the longest time, or did they?)
Keep up the good work byf. You make destiny such a better game because of everything you investigated and came to life with things people don't understand and think the game has no story...but you break it down and make it all come to life and understandable. Good stuff byf...you the lore master!!!!
You forgot one one thing, there was a Bayron Bough type projection in the throne room that showed the Triangle ships. I don't recall ever seeing that before but it probably means that the darkness is nearing.
Zavala never thought he would see the Queen again, hence having no memories of her and only hearing rumours about her and the reef, as he was fully comptempt on caring for the city. But here she was, a beuatiful yet empathic being whose eyes showed commanding beauty within. She walked forwards in poetic strides, her cloak flowing in the air like it was submergex in water. A bright glowing emblem regarding the Queens crown glowed feircley under her fur like coat. "My Queen." He said whilst bowing, followex by everyone else in the tower. She stopped at his position and looked around, ignoring the others kneeling and searching for someone in the crowd. "Uldren." She said almost in a whisper. "Where is he?"
Great video Byf! Looking forward to more of this goodness you create, and I'm also looking forward to going back to the Dreadnaught to see what old Savathun has been up to. Maybe we will get another book of sorrow, some of the best lore content Bungie has created.
Byf, i cannot express how much i love your videos. Whether it be your smooth voice, or the lore itself you cover, I find you to be one of the few channels i actually consistantly watch. Also, is that little piece of music at the end of your videos a piece of music you comissioned for your vids, or is it bungie's, or is it something completely different? For some reason, it always is a pleasing little thing to hear. Love your vids Byf. Keep at it.
If we are going to be able to use the darkness in the future, either we have both light and dark or we will choice between them. However, it will not be simply for war but for balance. If they were to go all out in a balance between light and darkness and it is a war between then not only should it be that light and darkness are fighting but there should be a board telling of how many guardians of light and darkness there are, the closer to 50% the more rewards that drop. A sort of balance bonus to help make sure one side isn't dominating the universe.
Same, I will definitely choose darkness but I hope this will be character specific instead of account so it is easier to keep it 50/50, especially if they do the balanced universe buff I talked about.
What i love about all of this is the simple fact of: We know who our enemy is. This is something that has never been the case pre-dlc release, the big reveal has always been during the trailers or when the DLC itself releases to those that remain spoiler free, and there is so much lore surrounding this enemy already that i am genuinely interested to see how it unfolds, this is really good writing in my opinion
I only vaguely remember this, but wasn't there a quote a while back from a Bungie dev that Savathun wouldn't just stand around while guardians fire at her? I don't think we're going to take down Savathun in a traditional raid, there's something else going on here. Mara, Eris, Elsie know a lot more about what's going on than we do. There's a game going on between them and Savathun and guardians are just the pawns.
Byf spoke to a "feeling" that something big is coming, a feeling that's hard to shake. As the story continues to unfold, and as new pieces of the puzzle are found and locked into place, a theme permeates throughout: Balance More specifically, these stories involve "like vs like", "kin vs kin", "friend vs friend". Many have touched on this subject previously, but let's take another look...a bigger look. "Shin vs Yor", "Uldren vs Mara?", "Vanguard vs Dredgen?"... After all, "a side should always be taken little light, even if it is the wrong side..." So, Guardian, who's side will you take?
The fight for life is truly endless. The uniqueness of humanity is that collectively and individually we exist in a sociological scale of believing in ourselves to feeling like there's no reason for any of it. This is the great battle in all the tales: good vs evil, "to be or not to be", light vs dark, hope vs despair. By our nature we are forced to choose a side and there are endless factions within each. Our intelligence is our bane. The answer to the question, is something better than nothing, is not to be found, we create it. The line is thin but by will or not, we always choose a side.
I know I’m about a month late on this video, and not sure how much loose ends have been tied up. But my speculation is this: Uldren is a guardian now, he is the light, and the awoken prince, that means the other royal half, queen Mara, needs to choose the darkness in order to achieve balance, the wrong choice line may refer to the fact that she either knows or doesn’t believe we will falter.

Never change the outro. It is the best one I have seen so far
You have really pumped up the quality of your content. Keep it up Byf, I'm enjoying it more than ever!
*“DROWN IN THE DEEP...”* - Xol, will of the thousands, reference to the darkness.
dude byf is pumping out content i love it
IRL channel milestones?! HELL YEAH!!! Great job Byf!
Are we just ignoring the fact that both the stranger and the Queen have the same effect when teleporting
I just want to say her words are alot more prophetic right now. Like holy. How long has Bungie's plans been?
"a side should be taken, even if its the wrong side." -Elsie Bray AKA The Exo Stranger
its all coming together.
I started playing Destiny 2 a couple of months ago and this channel helped me understand and learn a lot of stuffm thank you Byf!
Byf you are absolutely killing it !!!!!!!
Byf always makes me so excited for the world of Destiny!
Keep up the good work byf. You make destiny such a better game because of everything you investigated and came to life with things people don't understand and think the game has no story...but you break it down and make it all come to life and understandable. Good stuff byf...you the lore master!!!!
I like how youtube recommended this video this month in specific
“Bow to no one”
*bows*
You forgot one one thing, there was a Bayron Bough type projection in the throne room that showed the Triangle ships. I don't recall ever seeing that before but it probably means that the darkness is nearing.
Bruh who are the people disliking this video smh. Keep up the good work Byf so nice catching up on lore with you.
That "feeling in my gut that something is about to go down" is something I am experiencing very hard right now, and I'm glad I'm not the only one!
love the work you do Byf, also i get the chills every time you say your outro!
We love you Byf, and we love your content.
Destiny 3 is gonna be something else
Byf's back in full swing, hell yeah.
Another great video to add to the long list of great videos Byf.
Does someone have a compilation of all the meetings in the queen's court? I didn't manage to see them all.
Anyone else come back just before season 15?
You're just cranking out quality videos and it's amazing! Keep up the fantastic work!
Byf: the Last Word and Thorn video is a masterpiece keep it up :)
This game... This game puts a smile on my face every time... every time.
Keep at it.
"Bow to no one,"
Byf: **Bows**
Mara: "WHAT DID I JUST SAY!"
This is awesome!!! Im so hyped with how this channel is growing, much love byf! Per audasia ad astra!!! (I think)
If we get to choose, darkness here the community goes >:)
Little did we know that she was foreshadowing beyond light
I have no time to explain why I don't have time to explain that I love Destiny and this channel.
As always good content Byf!
Thanks for all these amazing videos Byf. Keep going :)
Watching this video in 2021 makes so much more sense omg
"Bow to no-one" is absolutely foreshadowing the Season of the Chosen and I love Mara for it
*WHERE*
*IS*
*ULDREN*
YOU AND ME BOTH
Probably getting shot at by Scorn, scurrying with hive, or making a beeline to the tower
DEAD IN THE
FUTURE
@@blackstorm7533 or getting shot in the crucible
Gone. Bungie got his account got suspended for shooting at teammates.
inb4 the next "Court visit" we see Dul Incaru and/or appear in the Shattered Throne.
Great video as always dude!
Excellent video! Thanks for the content from you and your team!
I love your videos Byf they are always informational and captivating. I look forward to every video you post. Thank you
I got chills man the stranger might be coming back!!!! Dude awesome!!!
keep it up BYF great job with the thorn/lastword video btw it was amazing loved every second
Byf should make a video recapping everything that happened in Destiny’s Golden Age... with Zayde Wolf’s “Golden Age” song in the background
Byf spoke to a "feeling" that something big is coming, a feeling that's hard to shake.
As the story continues to unfold, and as new pieces of the puzzle are found and locked into place, a theme permeates throughout:
Balance
More specifically, these stories involve "like vs like", "kin vs kin", "friend vs friend".
Many have touched on this subject previously, but let's take another look...a bigger look.
"Shin vs Yor", "Uldren vs Mara?", "Vanguard vs Dredgen?"...
After all, "a side should always be taken little light, even if it is the wrong side..."
So, Guardian, who's side will you take?
We love you Byf.
Watching this going into September and Beyond Light makes me think that Mara, and potentially Uldren is coming back
Also, did you notice that Maras trasmat was near identical to Elsas? We may yest see Elsa again in the future. And the Thorn video was EPIC
As always, Byf, thank you.
Always happy when a new video comes out!
Your great videos are always appreciated
Thank for this byf. Your content is top notch as of late keep it up!!
Thank you Byf! Grateful for your work 😊🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I know I’m about a month late on this video, and not sure how much loose ends have been tied up. But my speculation is this: Uldren is a guardian now, he is the light, and the awoken prince, that means the other royal half, queen Mara, needs to choose the darkness in order to achieve balance, the wrong choice line may refer to the fact that she either knows or doesn’t believe we will falter.
